Introducing
FASHION COLOR
Winter Season 2011
IT’S TIME TO
reimagine ORANGE
The orange accent is back After these recent recession years, everyone is looking forward — and the best time to look forward is in the middle of a gray winter. Winter Moxie, a slightly peachy but intense orange, will be the favorite punch of color next season: a color of sunshine and health, warmth and activity to cheer anyone struggling past the winter blues. As a transitional color between red and yellow, orange is naturally associated with change, whether it’s at the end of the day or between seasons. A bit of orange telegraphs the message: spring is just around the corner! Moxie’s intensity lets it easily steal the show but Winter Moxie isn’t just for the brazenly bold! Its pinkish undertones let it play well with others, as a tasteful complement to a muted winter palette or a surprising accent color to almost any outfit. There’s no reason to fear orange anymore — everyone has a bit of moxie in them, even if it’s a little hidden — a ray of sunshine peeking from behind the clouds.

COMPLEMENTARY (this page, left)
Orange at its brightest and strongest. When paired with its complement, blue, orange almost literally jumps out. Be sure to use color proportions tastefully to avoid vibration and get maximum impact.
ANALAGOUS (facing page; warm analagous at left, cool analagous in middle)
The warmth of orange. From red to yellow, every color of this palette is warm and happy, and even better, go with one another, creating a sunny, bright feel. The cool analogous color scheme veers into a cooler, starker color combination. The blue-violet on orange contrast is edgy and daring. Red plays intermediary between this tense duo.
NEUTRAL (facing page, right)
The easiest way to combine orange with other colors. Gray recedes, the orange comes to the forefront. Particularly effective with slightly different values of orange which play off the gray and each other.

NOT-THE-SAME-OLD-
winter color scheme Moxie goes particularly well with Manhattan Magic, a magenta which can impishly accentuate Moxie’s playfulness or sober it as desired. Evening Streets is a beautiful darker gray that offers a neutral backdrop, which contrasts well with January Mist, a subtle shade of gray lightly tinted with blue. January Mist can replace white to tone down the brightness of Winter Moxie (or any orange), letting Moxie truly be a quiet accent color when wanted, or if used generously, offers a cool complement to Moxie. Used in concert, Winter Moxie, January Mist, Manhattan Magic and Evening Streets both reflect and brighten the winter cityscape.

patterns
IN THE CITY AND BEYOND Winter Moxie and her sister colors lend themselves easily to patterning. Combining geometric regularity with softness creates dynamic patterns that can play subtle or loud. The patterns shown here use color proportions and scale to show off just how flexible Moxie can be. Whether in a tasteful handbag design, muted backdrop or vibrating attention grabber, Moxie becomes a special twist. Surprise in structure: isn’t that what navigating modern urban life is about?
URBAN
Texture is all around us... whether in the city we walk through, the clothes we wear, the food we eat, the things we just plain look at. In the world of texture, Moxie sweetly pops. Like any orange that’s slightly white, Moxie profits especially from texture. The play of light against material softens and integrates the color.
The urban landscape in the winter is especially filled with stunning variety of texture. Muted light reveals what stronger sunshine might hide; rain or snow alternatively cover, then cleanse, revealing the city anew. Orange plays in the cracks and corners, waiting to be noticed by rejeuvenated eyes...
goes a long way
A BIT OF MOXIE
Like the women of today Moxie plays a lot of roles: showy or demure, subtle or brazen, impish or on point. With the city gray and forbidding in the winter time, adding Moxie to the mix becomes not just fun but crucial! Like an unexpected wink in the city crowd, Moxie brightens and energizes the daily routine.
