ABOUT VET
All training is conducted at Colour Cosmetica Academy, 20 – 32 Union Street, in the East End of Adelaide. Some on-site training can be carried out on your school grounds, with a qualified educator, whom is competent to deliver relevant units of competency from the Hairdressing and Beauty curriculum from your school. This can be discussed with the Principal of Colour Cosmetica Academy.
5
The most appealing point of the VET in schools programs that Colour Cosmetica Academy offers is that Year 10, 11 and 12 students can stay at school and complete their SACE, qualify for university entry and obtain a VET qualification all at once. It is not uncommon for students to complete certificates in Hairdressing, Make up and Fashion Styling, business etc – and get a head start.

SACE INFORMATION
SCHOOL BASED NEW APPRENTICESHIPS
Vocational Education and Training (VET) is education and training that gives students skills and knowledge for work. VET operates through a national training system, and is delivered, assessed and certified by Registered Training Organisations.
New Apprenticeship when the following applies:
The new SACE is designed to give students increased flexibility, including greater opportunities to have diverse forms of learning and achievement recognised. These directions are in line with the SACE Board legislation and State and national policies aimed at facilitating the transition of young people from school to further education, training and employment.
•
The recognition arrangements for VET in the SACE will enable students to include more vocational education and training (VET) in their SACE studies. These recognition arrangements help students to build coherent pathways in the SACE through VET, and encourage students to complete, or make significant progress towards completing, VET qualifications while completing the SACE.
• •
The student is enrolled in the senior secondary certificate (the SACE) The school at which the student is enrolled acknowledges and endorses the Training Plan required by the Contract of Training The SBNA is recognised on the senior secondary certificate.
Under these arrangements, the SBNA’s are both full time students and part time employees and are completing training which will enable them to gain an AQF Certificate. Why is the school asked to endorse a School Based New Apprenticeship? School Principals (or their delegate) will be asked to acknowledge and endorse an SBNA by being a signatory to the Training Plan attached to the Contract of Training. This will signify the SBNA is an integral part of the school program which will require one or more of the following: From 2011, the recognition arrangements for VET in the SACE will enable students to include more vocational education and training (VET) in their SACE studies. Students can gain recognition for up to 180 SACE credits at Stage 1 and/or Stage 2 for successfully completed VET. Stage 1 and 2 All VET qualifications, or units of competency that make up a qualification, in the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) can contribute to the completion requirements of the SACE. Students can use a maximum of two qualifications at Certificate I level to gain credits towards the completion of the SACE. There is no limit to the number of qualifications at Certificate II level or higher that students can use to gain credits towards the completion of the SACE.
• •
• • • • •
•
The student will use school time to attend work and/or training The student will exchange one or more SACE subject unit(s) for the nominal hours of VET competencies studied as part of the Contract of Training The school applies resources to the arrangements required for the SBNA Timetable amendments to accommodate the student Special SACE units developed to assist in VET/ workplace recognition Support for the student in counselling, mentoring, special catch-up classes Submitting VET results related to the contract to the SACE Board of SA for SACE recognition preferably by November each year Ensuring the SBNA is built into each student’s Individual Learning Plan and supported through high quality career information and transition services
7
Student councillors/VET Co-ordinators or nominated teachers will assist the student in planning for a SBNA by helping them to select the most appropriate subjects that meet their planned career pathways and SACE pattern requirements. Who are the signatories to a Contract of Training and Training Plan? A New Apprenticeship Centre (NAC) will assist with the completion and signing of the Contract of Training and attached Training Plan. The employer, student and parent/ guardian are all signatories to the contract. The chosen Registered Training Organisation is also nominated on the contract. School Principals (or their delegate) will sign the Training Plan and will be involved in negotiating and agreeing on the school, work and training components. Schools will be entitled to hold a photocopy of the Contract of Training and Training Plan and should record the total number and the basic details of SBNA’s in their school for attendance auditing and ‘Duty of Care’ purposes.
ASSISTANT MAKE UP ARTIST
During any type of production, you help with touch-ups between takes. You deliver supplies, keep models, actors, media representatives and clients comfortable, and move make up to where it needs to be. Depending on the size of the production, you might even be able to help with the application of make up, like doing small areas of body paint application, putting on foundation, or even doing the make up of extras.
This is a job that calls for long hours and lots of movement. You can expect to have times of rush, like when setting up or moving to a new location, and also times when you spend hours in one position, hunched over an actor and getting their look just right. It is important to be a proactive junior to get noticed by your peers: this is how you build a professional reputation and gain further work.

A major part of this job is making sure the model, actor or media representatives make up looks the same from scene to scene and from day to day. Single shots can take days to film, so you need to ensure that the bruise painted on the right check on day one doesn’t move to the left by day 15.
