Chase is an ideal base for adventures around the west of the Shuswap. From Chase you can explore Little Shuswap Lake, Neskonlith, Chase Creek, Turtle Valley, and the Adams Lake Area. The village of Chase sits on the shores of Little Shuswap Lake and the South Thompson River Valley. Our lakeside location and plentiful amenities make Chase a delight in all seasons! The downtown core is lined with seasonal blooms and is a lovely place to stroll through specialty stores, art and culture venues, and restaurants. Stop into a café for a latté, a bannock taco or pick up fresh bread and treats for a picnic downtown or lakeside!
If parks and recreation are more your style, you’ll love our splash pad, skate park, wading pool, and 300 metre long iconic red wharf! Enjoy a day in the sand at Memorial Park beach. Music lovers should be sure to visit Chase in July and August, to enjoy great concerts at Music on the Lake and Chase CornStock.

White Lake Provincial Park, an oasis near the north end of the lake, features a gravel boat launch and undeveloped camping area. Near Enderby, Mabel Lake and Hidden Lake boast boat launches, camping, and soul-soothing wilderness. The Shuswap’s shimmering lakes, rich wetlands, and lush forests don’t just appeal to people – our fine-feathered friends love to perch here too. In fact, our widely varied habitat of rivers, lakes, and wetlands attracts over 300 bird species to the Shuswap – some 63 per cent of all species found in BC. In the spring and fall, the shorelines are a haven for a wide variety of migratory birds. Large numbers of waterfowl and many other birds grace the skies and waterways of the region. Watch Osprey and Blue Herons fishing. Bring your binoculars to look on as Bald Eagles feed their young. Perhaps one of the most enchanting Shuswap experiences to be had is witnessing the ‘walking on
water’ dance of the Western Grebe. The Western Grebe has established only two breeding colonies in BC, and one of them is right here in Salmon Arm Bay. Take the family out for a canoe trip to share in the magic up close.

Birding is a wonderful way to learn about our natural surroundings, too. Numerous tree species, wildflowers, and mushroom varieties flourish in the Shuswap’s temperate zone, while large and small animals thrive in its lush habitats. At the Salmon Arm Marine Park by the wharf, visit the award-winning Interpretive Centre operated by the Salmon Arm Bay Nature Enhancement Society, where you can explore boardwalks and trails through vibrant ecosystems.

day 1: White Lake-Notch Hill Tour: A moderate, 42 km figure-8 route through glistening lake country, following the CP Rail line as it travels back and forth across the countryside. Take a break along the way at historic Notch Hill Community Hall. Ride back along the water in Blind Bay and stop for a dip. Start at Sprokkets Café at the Balmoral junction, and reward yourself with a snack there on your return.
day 2: Bike for Your Life Century Ride: A picturesque, rolling 100 km route with stunning views of old farms, rivers, valleys, and the iconic Enderby Cliffs. During October, the banks of the Adams River, 405 km inland from the Pacific Ocean, become the scene of a natural miracle.
Each fall, the quiet waters of the 12 km river welcome Sockeye Salmon returning to their home waters to spawn. The fish are completing a journey that takes them far out into the Pacific, then upstream against swift currents and rapids all the way up to Alaska and the Aleutian Islands and back again – traveling over 4,000 km in their lifetime.
View the salmon run from the banks of the Adams River at Tsútswecw Provincial Park (formerly known as Roderick Haig-Brown Provincial Park). Explore 26 km of trails offering exceptional salmon viewing and bird-watching opportunities. The Adams River Salmon Society maintains an interpretive centre and hosts guided walks.
The Adams River is one of the most important Sockeye Salmon breeding areas in North America – important not only to local ecology, but to the history and culture of the Shuswap. Salmon have helped to sustain the Secwepemc people for thousands of years. Sockeye Salmon return to the Adams River each year, and in 2022 – the next dominant year in the four-year migration cycle – hundreds of thousands of fish are expected to return home to spawn.
The Adams River puts on an incredible show, but it’s not the only place to view spawning salmon. Thousands of fish return to lakes and rivers throughout the region. Watch for flashes of red as they head upstream!
