N EW H OMES Your Guide to New Housing Developments in the Columbia Valley

Pine Ridge Mountain Resort Business Feature by Sandra Kelly Pine Ridge Mountain Resort has a beautiful setting high above the shores of Lake Windermere in southwest Invermere, with views of the lake to the east and Toby Creek to the north. The new master-planned resort offers alpine splendor and tranquility, but also close access to shops, restaurants and all the recreational amenities that make the Columbia Valley so popular. The recently-opened sales centre for the resort also has a convenient location, on 7th Avenue in downtown Invermere. Starting in June, the centre will be open seven days a week from nine a.m. to five p.m. For more information, call 1-866-580-2588. When it is complete, seven to ten years from now, Pine Ridge Mountain resort will contain 300 singlefamily homes, 400 villas and alpine-style town homes, eight kilometers of walking trails and a recreation centre. The latter will have meeting facilities and 60 apartment suites, an outdoor pool, a hot tub, a professional fitness facility, steam showers, a terraced patio and a grand residents’ lounge with a stone fireplace. “Pine Ridge Mountain Resort will be a world class resort community,” says Jon Dick, Vice President with the Statesman Group of Companies. “We are offering a secure investment to our buyers and a stunning community in which to vacation or to live year-round.” Phase I of the resort incorporates 26 town homes being built by Statesman. Upscale in their finishes but low in their maintenance requirements, the town homes are priced from $499,000.

Quarter-acre lots overlook Toby Creek and the mountain range to the north.

Continued from front page . . . Fifteen are eligible to participate in a professionally-managed short-term rental pool. Half of the 400 town homes will be eligible to join the pool. Phase II comprises 50 cottage lots and an additional 60 town homes. The lots will be released in two phases beginning in Spring 2008, first with 40 lots averaging 8,000 square feet and having a variety of exposures, and then with ten ridge lots backing onto Toby Creek and averaging a quarter-acre in size. Sales are brisk. “We are very pleased with the response to Pine Ridge Mountain Resort,” says Mr. Dick. “The town homes are in demand and we’re getting plenty of enquiries about the building lots.” The lots range in price from $139,000 for a cottage lot (nestled in the trees), and from $200,000 for a lot with sweeping views of the Rocky Mountains. There is no building commitment. The architectural controls in place stipulate an alpine theme. Pine Ridge Mountain Resort will be a sustainable green community with almost 40 percent of its total area dedicated to forest and green space. Statesmen will employ Built Green Technology in the design and construction of the town homes, and use xeriscaping on every lot. There will be no fences. “We want to maintain a feeling of spaciousness and untouched wilderness,” says Mr. Dick. There will be a concierge service and a full-time events coordinator. Residents of all ages will enjoy a wide range of outdoor activities and family outings.

Radium Hot Springs ideal for retirement Of all the communities in British Columbia that attract retirees, Radium Hot Springs isn’t tops on the list. Victoria holds that honor. Kelowna is evermore popular, and Nelson and Kamloops are fast gaining attention. But in many ways Radium is the ideal retirement community. For several years running, this beautiful mountain getaway has ranked among the fastest growing municipalities in the province, as more people discover its charms. First among those: Radium is a village, with all the warmth and coziness that implies. Size is important to retirees. Statistics indicate that a high percentage of urbanites want to spend their twilight years in a small, close-knit community. Radium’s population swells in the summer months, but only a thousand lucky people live there year-round. Radium is a walkable community. The village’s policy of building for high density means that shops, restaurants and amenities such as the public library

are within strolling distance. The famed hot pools—a fabulous perk—are just a short drive away. Today’s retirees are active. They want a menu of recreational activities from which something new and interesting can be sampled every day. Radium is the gateway to all the activities that make the Columbia Valley so popular among visitors: golfing, skiing, hiking, camping, bird watching, boating and road touring—there are too many possibilities to list here. In many ways, Radium offers the best of country and city life. There are plenty of chances to commune with nature, but also plenty of cultural amusements. The valley has world-class art galleries and museums, great shops and eateries, and festivals of every kind. Semi-retirees find all the professional services they need: high-speed Internet, soon to be even speedier thanks to fibre optics, financial and accounting services, and a host of other essentials.

Remember stomping through mountain meadows that went on forever in every direction? So will he.

Be among the very first to stake a claim in Canada’s only Master-Planned Ranch community, located five minutes north of Radium, BC, at the foot of the rugged Rocky Mountains.

Valley set to become major resort destination The Windermere Valley has long been cottage country, with holiday homes being passed down from one generation to the next. Now the valley is set to become a major resort destination—for retirees wanting an active lifestyle and visitors who want a little more luxury in their leisure time. In the language of real estate, a resort is a community of dwellings under one or more roofs, which has amenities for the exclusive use of its occupants, such as a golf course, a clubhouse, or a restaurant. Some resorts have pools and spas and sport courts. A truly posh resort will operate on the scale of a grand hotel, with fully furnished and stocked suites, and a concierge service. Bighorn Meadows Resort on the picturesque Springs Golf Course, and Radium Resort, are established resorts with a long list of amenities, not to mention some of the most amazing scenery in the world. Sable Ridge is within strolling distance of Radium’s shops

and restaurants, a major draw for investors. Schickedanz is offering its Borrego Ridge townhomes in Radium, and Elk Park Ranch is marketing acreage-style properties north of Radium. Copper Point Resort at the crossroads of Invermere and Highway 93 has not one but two golf courses: the spectacularly beautiful Copper Point Golf Club and the newly opened Ridge course. The newest development is the prestigious Copper Point Estates. The Resort at Castlerock will offer a range of amenities in a gorgeous alpine setting. Pine Ridge Mountain Resort, also located above Lake Windermere, will have a mix of townhomes and single-family homes of alpine design. The valley also has a number of smaller developments in progress. The biggest story in resorts is the $1-billion makeover of Fairmont Hot Springs Resort over the next 20 years. When it is finished, the already popular visitor destination will have world-class status.
