Little Medical School®: Extreme Medical School New! Grades 7-9 / Week 5 / This workshop runs 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Early Registration: $315 Registration: $325 Final Registration: $335 We offer a one-of-a-kind learning experience for middle school and high school-aged students. This hands-on, in-depth experience puts the student in the role of the physician, complete with a white coat and real stethoscope. Through interactive and creative demonstrations, crafts, and projects, students see how the body works and what goes wrong with disease states. Our “student doctors” not only learn how to use a stethoscope, but also learn what they are hearing when they listen to the heart beat. We discuss why murmurs sound the way they do, and they get their first looks at EKG’s. As “student surgeons” they learn how to sew like a real surgeon, tie knots, and do a hernia repair with mesh! In the blood section, they make a model of normal blood, and then see first-hand what goes wrong with leukemia and sickle cell disease. This is just a sampling of the many exciting topics we explore. At the end of the weeklong course, students will gain an appreciation and understanding for the human body, and will learn what it takes to prepare for being a pre-med major in college, including learning important tips to be a successful candidate for medical school. This class is taught by Little Medical School.

Upper School courses are offered by CSG Summer Programs as an opportunity for students entering grades 9-12 to earn academic credit or to provide additional support in a subject. Academic credit earned during CSG Summer Programs can help students create a flexible schedule during the academic year, while non-credit courses seek to strengthen foundational knowledge or to extend learning acquired in the previous academic year. All credit courses are three weeks in length and daily attendance in credit courses is mandatory to receive any academic credit. Credit course offerings are divided into threeweek terms. Term one credit courses will run weeks 1-3 (June 8 – June 26), and term two credit courses will run weeks 5-7 (July 6 – July 24). Credit classes must have a minimum of six students registered in order for the class to run. Space is limited to a maximum of 12 students per class, and we do expect some classes to fill very quickly, so please register early. Non-credit (enrichment) courses vary in length and time. They are offered to give students the opportunity to prepare for college or do something fun. No academic credit is granted for these enrichment courses.

Policies and Procedures Registration All registration can be done online through our registration portal at www.columbusschoolforgirls.org/summer. With registration, we require that the Emergency Medical Form be submitted on behalf of the child (part of the registration paperwork). If a child is enrolled in Pre-K – Kindergarten, we require an Annual Physician’s Report and an Early Childhood Student Health Record and Authorization Form. This additional form is available at www.columbusschoolforgirls.org/summer.
Payment and Fee Schedule Simplifying the registration process, we have created a new registration price structure. This eliminates the need for early discounts and late fees that can get in the way of having an awesome summer. Our new 3-tier structure allows you the flexibility to register when you are ready. Prices increase by ten dollars at each new tier.

Amending Registrations The online system does not allow the removal of classes after registration has been submitted. You can, however, add classes. If you should need to make changes to a session for which you have already registered, please contact us. A parent who wishes to switch their child from one class to another (rather than withdrawing) may do so at any time without penalty, as long as there is room in the new class. In such a case, the parent would simply pay the difference between the class registration fees. Amendments to a student’s registration will not be made without direct parental consent. Students are not permitted to submit changes to their own registrations.
Grades 9-12 - Electronic communication has become an integral part of the way our society interacts, and technology offers an opportunity for students to grow, connect, and learn. The goal of our cell phone policy is to provide a framework for students to use technology for academic and practical purposes in a mindful, appropriate, and respectful manner. In all circumstances, students must follow teacher or supervisor direction regarding acceptable use of devices in order to facilitate learning. Use of technology must also adhere to CSG’s Honor Code. As a guiding practice, cell phones are not allowed in the following locations: Hallways, Classrooms (unless directed by the teacher), locker rooms, dressing rooms, or other locations where students are changing. As a guiding practice, cell phones may be used during

free periods as long as the use is not disruptive or distracting to others. Students who demonstrate an inability to follow guidelines and teacher directions may have their cell phones taken and held by the Summer Programs office or a teacher until the end of the day. Students are not to take photos or videos or faculty, staff, or students without consent.
Course Credit Progress Reports For CSG’s credit courses, students will receive a written report of his/her progress at the completion of the class. These reports will consist of either letter grades or pass/fail ratings, as appropriate. CSG students’ reports will be shared electronically through My BackPack upon course completion. Non-CSG students who desire credit for courses taken through CSG Summer Programs should consult their individual school administrators to determine their policy regarding work done during the summer. The CSG Summer Programs Director will be happy to provide complete course descriptions and any information necessary for credit assessment. Upon request, final grades will be mailed to the individual’s school.
