EDUCATIONAL EXCELLENCE AT THE HEART OF THE COMMUNITY An Academy of
WELCOME FROM THE PRINCIPAL Welcome to Cambourne Village College – we are delighted that you are interested in our school. Since opening in September 2013, as a new Academy within the Cam Academy Trust, the College has grown enormously in numbers and gone from strength to strength. We achieved an Ofsted ‘Outstanding’ grading at our first ever inspection in May 2015 and were designated a Teaching School in 2016, the same year as being awarded Leading Edge Status. Our pupils have the combined benefit of learning with highly skilled and committed teachers, in a wonderful, state-of-the-art new building. We aspire to excellence in all that we do, striving for the very highest standards of academic achievement for all of our pupils, whatever their starting points, and we offer a broad and balanced curriculum, with many opportunities for our pupils to develop their unique talents and attributes outside of the classroom. We are proud of our Village College status and the support from the local community since our opening has been overwhelming, while further afield we offer exciting opportunities for education with an international outlook, in keeping with another of the stated aims of our Trust. I hope you find this prospectus helpful. Claire Coates, Principal

The progress of students is rapid and sustained. Ofsted 2015
We expect every single pupil to achieve his or her best at Cambourne Village College. Whatever an individual’s starting point with us, we aim to support each and every one to achieve at the highest possible level. Following a curriculum similar to that of our partner school at nearby Comberton Village College, all pupils will be challenged to attain at the highest possible levels at GCSE and other appropriate qualifications. This high achievement is then continued at the outstanding Comberton Sixth Form, for those pupils who progress there. We understand high achievement to mean pupils developing in a wider educational context. We want all pupils to develop broad skills and confidence. Hence many extra-curricular opportunities such as clubs, trips and visits, and the Duke of Edinburgh Award from Year 9, are a key part of our pupils’ experiences at Cambourne Village College.

A POSITIVE & CARING ETHOS
Cambourne Village College is characterised by an inclusive ethos where every pupil can thrive. Positive, polite and considerate behaviour is insisted on from all pupils, at all times, enabling everyone to learn well. Our simple uniform must be worn properly and fully by all pupils. Positive behaviour is encouraged through a system of rewards. Simple and fair sanctions are used if necessary, to ensure behaviour is as it should be. We aim to work positively with parents to ensure that all our pupils are happy, secure and learning well.

WIDER EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES We are committed to providing an excellent educational experience for every pupil at Cambourne Village College. As well as ensuring excellent teaching and learning in every lesson, this means having a broad range of exciting educational opportunities available to all pupils. This properly enables every pupil to become capable, confident and caring. Very many opportunities for pupil activities exist within both sport and the expressive arts, making the most of our excellent new facilities. Clubs, fixtures, productions and performances are available to everyone. All pupils have the opportunity to participate in the Duke of Edinburgh Award programme at Bronze level from Year 9. The Gold Award is available at Comberton Sixth Form. A wide range of trips and visits takes place for all pupils, both in this country and abroad, some organised within Cambourne Village College and some taking place in conjunction with Comberton. Year 7 pupils all attend our summer residential at Beaumanor Hall, and a visit to Spain takes place for them in May. Field trips, ski trips, sports and language visits are on offer to the pupils as they move up through the school. Many visits take place in Europe, with further exciting and remarkable opportunities to visit other continents also available.

Students’ behaviour in lessons is exemplary. They are enthusiastic about their learning and work confidently without interruption. Ofsted 2015
The College is uniquely situated to build ever-stronger relationships with our catchment primary schools in the Cambourne villages. Close liaison means that primary and secondary curriculums dovetail as smoothly as possible. Not only do we collaborate closely at transition time to ensure all pupils feel confident and secure in their move to secondary school, but our close proximity means that collaborative working in the classroom and across such areas as sport and music can easily take place. We believe this gives pupils the strongest possible platform for the launch of their successful secondary school careers.
