EDUCATIONAL EXCELLENCE AT THE HEART OF THE COMMUNITY
WELCOME FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Welcome to Cambourne Village College; I am delighted that you would like to know more about our college. Cambourne Village College, an academy of The Cam Academy Trust, opened in brand new premises in September 2013 with just five forms of Year 7 pupils. Serving one of the fastest-growing communities in the UK, we now have more than 1300 pupils on roll, with recent major expansion, including the opening of our new sixth form centre in September 2024.
Our pupils achieve excellent results in public examinations via a curriculum designed to offer maximum breadth and opportunity for all abilities. Our extra-curricular offer is also outstanding, with annual musical drama performances, termly concerts, a wide range of competitive and recreational sporting activities, and many further clubs and events on offer.
We strive to be a welcoming and inclusive school for our pupils and to fulfil our Village College ethos in serving the whole community. We support an active adult education programme, and more than 30 local groups and organisations make use of the school’s facilities out of hours. This unusual commitment to our local community was a key factor in winning the Goldsmiths’ Award in 2024 and Artsmark a year earlier.
Any school is only as strong as the bond between parents, carers, pupils, and staff so we always seek to have effective, mutually beneficial, and long-lasting partnerships, as we know these will ensure our pupils can thrive and become their very best. As a result, we have high expectations of everyone connected to our school, grounded in our guiding principle of RESPECT.
Our aims are summed up below and further explained in our Ethos Statement. Aspiring to Excellence:
• We are a dynamic, innovative, and outward-looking school.
• We value every individual and seek the best possible outcomes for each one.
• Our staff is highly qualified, exceptionally committed and continually learning.
• We nurture mutually beneficial partnerships which enhance our pupils’ opportunities and well-being.
• We are sustained by collaboration, mutual support and trusting relationships.
• We are an open, friendly school where all people feel they belong.
• We are proud to serve our community of Cambourne and want Cambourne to be proud of us.

HIGH QUALITY TEACHING & LEARNING
Many thanks to Cambourne Village College for giving our children the best learning opportunities possible in your care.
– PARENT
Teaching of the very highest standard, leading to excellent learning for all pupils, is at the heart of our work.
All pupils are able to exploit the wonderful advantages of a new state-of-the-art building and extensive IT infrastructure through use of their own iPads. Cambourne teachers are ideally placed to provide inspirational learning opportunities for all our pupils.
HIGH ACHIEVEMENT FOR ALL
Well done Year 11s and a massive congratulations to the school for producing another set of wonderful results.
– PARENT
We expect every pupil to achieve his or her best at Cambourne Village College.
Whatever an individual’s starting point, we aim to support each and every one to achieve the highest possible grades at GCSE and through other appropriate qualifications. This high achievement is then continued at our new Sixth Form. With state-of-the-art facilities and high-quality pastoral support, we are delighted to offer a student experience that blends academic studies with a wealth of experiences beyond the classroom.
We want all pupils to develop broad skills and confidence, hence we offer many student leadership opportunities and an exceptional range of extra-curricular opportunities.
A POSITIVE AND CARING ETHOS
Cambourne Village College is characterised by an inclusive ethos where every pupil can thrive.
Positive, respectful, and polite behaviours are expected from all pupils, at all times, enabling everyone to learn well. Our smart, practical and comfortable uniform is to be worn correctly by all students. Positive behaviour is encouraged through a system of recognition and rewards. Our behaviour policy, based on our Respect Values, aims to promote positive behaviours within the classroom and wider community. We work collaboratively with our parent / carers to ensure that all our pupils are happy, respectful and achieve aspirational outcomes.
WIDER EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES
We are committed to providing an excellent educational experience for every pupil at Cambourne Village College.
I feel my child is known, liked, supported and nurtured here.
– YEAR 9 PARENT CONSULTATION QUESTIONNAIRE
As well as ensuring excellent teaching and learning in every lesson, a broad range of exciting educational activities is available to all pupils, enabling each one to become capable, confident and caring. Very many opportunities exist within sport and the expressive arts, and all pupils are encouraged to participate in our various leadership schemes. Clubs and fixtures, music, drama productions and performances are open to everyone.
All pupils have the opportunity to participate in the Duke of Edinburgh Award programme from Year 9. A wide range of trips and visits takes place for all pupils, both in this country and abroad. As part of a week of activities in the Summer Term, we have a residential trip for all of Year 7, and numerous trips and experiences for older year groups. International field trips, ski trips, sports and language visits are on offer to the pupils as they move up through the school.
WORKING WITH OUR PRIMARY SCHOOLS
My daughter loves coming into school every morning!! The staff are very positive and supportive – thank you for all your hard work!
– YEAR 7 SETTLING-IN EVENING
The College is uniquely situated to build ever-stronger relationships with our catchment primary schools in the town. Close liaison means that primary and secondary curriculums dovetail as smoothly as possible. Not only do we collaborate closely at transition time to ensure all pupils feel confident and secure in their move to secondary school, but our close proximity means that collaborative working in the classroom and across such areas as sport, languages and music can easily take place. We believe this gives pupils the strongest possible platform for the launch of their successful secondary school careers.

Claire Heald CEO, The Cam Academy Trust
Every single pupil is supported to achieve their very best and be well prepared for the future.
The Trust is headed by our CEO Claire Heald, who joined us in 2024.
Our staff work closely together, sharing best practice to ensure the best possible education for all pupils.
Our aim is a simple one – we want educational excellence for all, with our academies working at the heart of, and serving, their local communities.
OUR CORE PRINCIPLES
At the heart of The Cam Academy Trust are six principles which drive everything we do. These are:
The excellence principle – educational provision must be excellent for all pupils in all our schools.
The comprehensive principle – our schools welcome all pupils, whatever their starting points and abilities.
The broad education principle – education in our schools is broadly based and should incorporate a wide educational experience for all pupils, including strong provision of the arts, sport, physical education and technology as well as academic subjects.
The community principle – our schools should sit at the heart of their communities and provide for more than just the pupils.
You can read more about our principles and values on the Trust website at www.catrust.co.uk 1 3 2 4 5 6
The partnership principle – we expect our schools to work in partnership with others for mutual benefit, not just within the Trust but with others locally and nationally, as well as with other organisations.
The international principle – all our schools should have a clear international emphasis in their provision both within and beyond the formal curriculum.
