A MESSAGE FROM THE HEAD
Dear Prospective Student,
CSF is a high performing, firmly established sixth form with a strong track record of both academic excellence and student progress.
With around 500 students from in excess of 25 schools, both national and international, the sixth form has a vibrant atmosphere with a wealth of opportunities, while at the same time being small enough to ensure our students are all known and treated as individuals. We can help you achieve the highest possible academic outcomes through a combination of outstanding teaching and the close support needed to thrive in a more independent environment.
Our students follow individualised study programmes that aim to ensure academic stretch and challenge alongside the development of the key skills vital for your success and next steps in education, employment or further training. On average, 85% of our students will leave Comberton to start a course at university, with over a third of university applicants going to Russell Group universities, including Oxbridge. In addition, many students have also been offered places on highly sought-after school leaver programmes and apprenticeship schemes.
At Comberton we want to give you the freedom and flexibility to build a programme of study that reflects your priorities and ensures that you maximise your sixth form experience, which includes allowing students to take a fourth A-Level with us, something that can be hugely helpful when trying to confirm your options. Many students will complete a 4 A-Level programme, with others deciding to concentrate on 3 A-levels once final decisions are made.
SCAN ME TO WATCH OUR WELCOME VIDEO
For additional academic extension, students may wish to complete the Cambridge International Project Qualification (IPQ) to enhance their critical thinking and research skills and support university entrance assessments (such as Oxbridge). There is also the option for all students to complete an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) or a Level 3 Core Maths course. If you chose to join us, we will discuss the different options with you during an informal guidance meeting to ensure you have the right combination of qualification to help you succeed both while at the sixth form and beyond.
Our students also enjoy an extensive range of additional opportunities beyond the classroom, to help develop other skills that will benefit them in the future. These include numerous enrichment and social opportunities alongside subject trips, both international and UK based. The Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme, Ski trip, Paris Art trip and organised university visits are hugely popular.
We believe we provide outstanding post-16 education in an environment where high standards of teaching, learning and academic progress are assured, while at the same time enabling students to learn the skills needed to be independent.
Thank you for your interest in Comberton Sixth Form.
DAVID CLARKE DIRECTOR OF SIXTH FORM

THE COMBERTON SIXTH FORM EXPERIENCE
The transition from school to sixth form and beyond is an exciting time and one which brings many opportunities and challenges, some of which may initially seem a little daunting. At Comberton Sixth Form we invite you to embrace the change, offering you the opportunity to grow and flourish in a college environment where you have greater independence and are treated like the young adult that you have become.
You will be expected to take greater responsibility for your learning, but you will also have the freedom to manage your time outside the classroom, enabling you to strike a balance that is right for you. Our superb on-site facilities give you a range of options, including time to unwind at the café or gym, or space to extend your academic and personal interests, either in the specialist music and arts studios or dedicated library and resource centre. Extensive independent study facilities mean that there is always space for you to work as and when you wish, whilst an array of opportunities outside the classroom (from work experience, to D of E, to leadership roles) will ensure that you are never short of options to extend yourself and enrich your experience.
Comberton students really thrive in this environment, which prepares them well for university and the world of work.
OUTSTANDING FACILITIES 6
While studying BTEC business at Comberton, I enjoyed having the freedom to work independently on certain assignments and then having the opportunity to work within a group on other projects. This contrast made my learning more fun and versatile and helped me to improve a range of skills, from communication and teamwork to planning and organisation. Furthermore, this course gave me the opportunity and the belief to go on to study Business Management at UEA. I had excellent support from my teachers and, through the knowledge I gained, I became much more confident in myself as the course progressed.
Ana Khachatryan – BTEC Business Extended Diploma
During my time at sixth form so far, I have been given the opportunity to enjoy a range of extra-curricular activities offered to us, most notably the enrichment programme. There are a wide range of activities on offer, ranging from sports to the arts to charitable and mentoring activities. Personally, I did the drama enrichment which entailed working towards the production of a play at the end of the year - the process was student led so we really had the creative freedom to take it wherever we wanted, which was fun and allowed us to express our creativity. Enrichment gives you skills to take beyond the sixth form and allows you to meet new people and make new friends. This is just one of the extra-curricular opportunities available here, so there really is something for everyone.
Zak Bowyer – History, Chemistry, Drama & Theatre Studies
Despite only knowing one person before arriving at Comberton, the caring and welcoming atmosphere meant I soon felt at home. I have been able to grow and flourish, as both a student and an individual, inspiring me to stand successfully for the role of Student President in our recent elections. I have had many opportunities to grow as an independent learner, and the Pre-U course in Global Perspectives has been really valuable and enjoyable, and helped me to develop the transferrable skills that will be essential for higher level study.
Ruby Barnard – Mathematics, Biology, Psychology, Pre-U Global Perspectives
At Comberton, we were given tremendous support and guidance in applying to Oxbridge from the outset. The process began almost on arrival to sixth form with a seminar on competitive admissions, inspiring students to explore their opportunities early. We were then supported through guidance meetings, pre-interview assessment preparation, personal statement feedback, mock interviews, and visits from Oxbridge staff and students. The hard work and encouragement from the teachers at Comberton gave me the confidence to apply, and equipped me with the tools to succeed.
Bea Greenhalgh – Double Maths, French, English Language, Pre-U Global Perspectives
The attention, guidance, and support I’ve been given has been invaluable. The opportunities were made clear from the start through a seminar on competitive admissions, and the support continued throughout my time in the sixth form, with guidance on how to extend my studies. Support included personal statement feedback, preparation for written assessments, mock interviews, and a day trip to a Cambridge College to get advice on admission into Oxbridge. A personal highlight includes the help I received when taking part in supercurricular activities, such as the Oriel College Philosophy Competition: I am immensely grateful for the teachers’ who helped me achieve my potential.
Gabriel Pang – French, Double Maths, Religion Philosophy & Ethics
The support that you have access to at Comberton Sixth Form is amazing!! Whether it is struggling with school work, managing your time, stress or more personal issues, there is always someone who will listen and help you find the best way forward. As someone who accessed the support on a number of occasions throughout my time at the sixth form, I can say with confidence that the support really helped to make my time at Comberton much easier!

Economics is fundamental to our world, and it influences all our daily lives. This includes issues such as how much tax we pay, inflation, interest rates and wealth, inequality and emerging world markets, energy and the environment. Any news programme will almost inevitably contain several economic issues. Do you want to understand these, develop your own views on them and consider what you feel the Government should or should not do about them? If so, then study Economics.
“English Language was my favourite subject, not just because it’s so easy to have discussions about the topics we covered, but because it’s so relevant to what is currently happening in the world. Developing the skills to challenge people’s views on major political and social issues really helped me in my other subjects, and in life outside of the classroom. It was such a fun course to study.”
A-LEVEL ENGLISH LITERATURE
If you love reading, and GCSE has given you a thirst for spending more time immersed in the other worlds that books can open up to you, Literature should be on your list. We study genuinely engaging novels, poetry and plays from Shakespeare to the present day, which provoke discussion about some of the most fundamental questions humans can ask, including what it means to be in love, what motivates the criminal mind, and how can we be better stewards of our environment? Once we’ve spent time discussing our reactions and developing our ideas, we learn how to be analytical, critical, and logical in expressing them, skills that will take you in a number of different directions, from law, to politics, to writing... this is a subject that opens doors.
