EVERYBODY IS SOMEBODY

Welcome from the Headteacher

Welcome to Melbourn Village College, which is a wonderful school owing to the dedication of our staff who strive to get to know each student as individuals, allowing their personalities to develop as they mature into young adults.

The care of our students is of the utmost importance and is our very first duty and priority. Only under effective care will our students flourish. Our young people need support and guidance, irrespective of their backgrounds and it is our role to support their development into successful adults. I will work with all staff at the school to ensure that this is of the highest standard and a bedrock from which every student can flourish and achieve.

For this support to be effective, relationships between students and staff must be positive. All students must know that we want them to achieve their aspirations but be willing to speak to us about the challenges in their lives.

Only by having positive relationships between students, staff and parents will we ensure that all our young people become the successful adults of the future.

High quality teaching and learning

Our son has flourished with the teaching he has received and we would absolutely recommend MVC to other parents. – YEAR 11 PARENT

The expertise of our teaching staff is reflected in the excellent progress that our students make.

National comparisons show overall progress as being high over a number of years, with individual subjects regularly in the top 10%.

We set high academic standards and strive hard to ensure all students are suitably challenged, including those who are gifted and able in some or all areas of the curriculum.

High achievement for all

Our curriculum provides a wide range of opportunities while keeping a focus on the core skills that will help students achieve throughout their lives. Our ethos and the relationships built up between staff and students help make sure that students have work that is appropriately challenging while being achievable.

Now that all of my children have left MVC, I wanted to recognise the exceptional personnel who have made a big positive difference on their student life.

– YEAR 11 PARENT

A positive and caring ethos

Our size means that we get to know all our students quickly and well; this is a clear advantage in terms of helping them achieve their potential.

Each child is valued as an individual and supported by a strong and co-ordinated pastoral system.

At Melbourn Village College, ‘Everybody is Somebody’.

Wider educational opportunities

Extending learning and involvement in extra-curricular activities are a core part of the Melbourn Village College experience.

Our extensive after-school enrichment programme offers all students a wide range of opportunities. Sporting representation is encouraged and destinations for recent residential trips have included Spain, France, Austria, Italy and Africa.

Visits to theatres, universities and other subject-based activities take the curriculum beyond the classroom. Students can also participate in the Duke of Edinburgh award.

Thank you for the excellent support and teaching our son received since transferring to MVC. He transformed from a very unhappy and underachieving child to a very positive young man who is really motivated to do his very best and his grades have improved massively. – YEAR 11 PARENT

Starting at Melbourn

Every year we welcome students into all year groups and while most come from our partner primaries, a number come from other schools. We strive hard to ensure a smooth transition to the college for all. Primary link events mean that the vast majority of students starting in Year 7 from our partner primary schools will already have visited the college a number of times. Our staff liaise closely with primary colleagues to find out about each child’s capabilities, interests and individual needs. Once at the college, all new students are supported by our Year 11 team of prefects, as well as their tutors and other staff.

Our family of schools gives us a fantastic opportunity to guide children on their educational journey from aged 3 to 18 with our commitment to ‘Excellence for All’.

Every single pupil is supported to achieve their very best and be well prepared for the future.

The Trust is headed by our CEO Claire Heald, who joined us in 2024.

Our staff work closely together, sharing best practice to ensure the best possible education for all pupils.

Our aim is a simple one – we want educational excellence for all, with our academies working at the heart of, and serving, their local communities.

Our core principles

At the heart of The Cam Academy Trust are six principles which drive everything we do. These are:

The excellence principle – educational provision must be excellent for all pupils in all our schools.

The comprehensive principle – our schools welcome all pupils, whatever their starting points and abilities.

The broad education principle – education in our schools is broadly based and should incorporate a wide educational experience for all pupils, including strong provision of the arts, sport, physical education and technology as well as academic subjects.

The community principle – our schools should sit at the heart of their communities and provide for more than just the pupils.

You can read more about our principles and values on the Trust website at www.catrust.co.uk 1 3 2 4 5 6

The partnership principle – we expect our schools to work in partnership with others for mutual benefit, not just within the Trust but with others locally and nationally, as well as with other organisations.

The international principle – all our schools should have a clear international emphasis in their provision both within and beyond the formal curriculum.
