Write in Spanish in each box how they are feeling. 12
I can…. • ask others what they are called • say what I am called
¡Hola! Me llamo Neus.
What is your name? My name is… And you? What is your name? (formal)
Write the Spanish text to the English and practise a short conversation with your partner.
13
I can…. • ask how to spell a word • spell my name and other words out in Spanish
Me llamo David. Se escribe D-A-V-I-D
Pretend you are a famous person. Your partner will ask you to spell out your name and then will guess who you are. Then you guess who he/she is. 14
15
To add pictures
Practise saying the numbers 11-20. Say them out of order and your partner will identify the correct picture. Then get into groups of 4-6 and play Loto. All make a grid with 6 different numbers between 1 and 20. One person calls out numbers 1-20 in a random order. The first person to cross off all the numbers wins the game.
16
I can…. • say and write the 12 months of the year in Spanish
¿Cuáles son estos meses en español? (What are these months in Spanish?)
Pon los meses en el orden correcto (Put these months into the correct order)
Test your partner on these words by saying the Spanish and asking your partner for the English and then the other way round. 17
Match the dates in the table below. Then write an email to David, giving your name, your age and your birthday.
18
I can…. • ask how you say something in Spanish when I don’t know a word
Con tu compañero/a, pregunta y contesta. With your partner, ask and answer.
Ejemplo: o ¿Cómo se dice ‘biro’ en espanol? o Bolígrafo Ask your partner how to say items 1-6 above in Spanish. If you can remember how, ask him/her how to spell them too! Now read through the short dialogues below and see if you and your partner can work out what they mean. (Use the words you do know and the pictures to help you work out the meanings)
19

Tips for pronouncing Spanish The good news about Spanish pronunciation is that it obeys clear phonetic rules, although people do speak with different accents, depending on their region and background. Vowels Each of the five vowels has its own clear sharp sound: a as in hat e as in pet i as in feet o as in clock u as in drew c's and z's c + e = th c + i = th z + a, o, u = th c + a = ka c + o = ko c + u = ku
cero, once cinco, gracias zapato, corazón, azul casa, catorce cómo, color Cuba, cubano
j's and g's J, as in Jardines, is a harder, stronger version of the English 'h'. G, when followed by e and i, sounds exactly the same as j. Otherwise, it is pronounced as the English 'g' in go. ll's The double ll, as in calle, is another characteristic Spanish sound. In most parts of Spain it's like the 'lli' in the English million. h’s The h is silent in Spanish, so you won’t be blowing any candles out when you pronounce words that begin with this letter. Best to imagine it’s not there and pronounce the second letter in the word.
hablo, helado, ¡hola!, huevo
