NEW STRATEGY AND VISUAL BRAND FOR A DYNAMIC ARCHITECTURAL PRACTICE Comet Creative was tasked with developing a positioning strategy, identity and story that would communicate the newly formed firm’s brand personality. After years of working for large companies and uninspired by the work they were doing, three architects established their own company where they would lead projects and champion great work. Our Brand Quest strategy process solidified their direction and purpose after which we devised an edgy design asthetic. Serious fun captures the essence of this brand, powered with lighthearted language, a bold green and gray palette, accompanied by playful LEGO® characters and graphics.

DEFINING A FIRM’S VALUE TO RECLAIM ITS POSITION With over thirty years of civil engineering experience, Hunsaker & Associates was not communicating their value and culture with prospects. More that 85% of companies looking to hire professional engineering services, first visit their website to evaluate the firm. Their dated website did not represent their value. To rebrand the company, we needed to uncover the essence of the firm. We conducted interviews with the leadership, talked with project managers and staff, and attended social events. These actions gave us the backstory to formulate the Hunsaker story “they engineer places where people live, work and play.” This differentiation communicates that Hunsaker plans and engineers unique residential developments. They are true shapers of communities.

MOVING FORWARD TOGETHER Despite its thirty years in practice, Westberg White Architecture needed to redefine its position and take command of its strengths with long-standing clients and industry partners. Through interviews with leadership, key stakeholders and clients, the positioning strategy emphasized the firm’s years of success in programming and design for educational institutions. We brought to light their human-centered design and the value this philosophy brings to teachers and students. The visual brand lacked creativity, along with a weak digital presence. Comet Creative designed a mobile-friendly and highly interactive website experience guiding users to the firm’s five capabilities, featured projects and calls-to-action.

A REBRANDING THAT WILL STAND THE TEST OF TIME Formerly KNA Consulting Engineers, the twenty-year-old firm wanted to refocus its brand and marketing strategy by changing its name to better represent its core competency, structural engineering. In an industry where engineering services are difficult to differentiate, we uncovered KNA’s unique talents and approach to projects during the brand strategy. Their new tagline, “integrity built in,” emphasizes the fact that their design is critical to a building’s safety, aesthetics and longevity. The mid-century-influenced design for the logo and unique color palette for the brand represents the personality of the firm and its attitude toward the award-winning work they perform for architects, owners and general contractors.

STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING LEGACY EVOLVES WITH REBRANDING Hope-Amundson is San Diego’s leading structural engineering company. Their mission is to build strong relationships and provide cost-effective structural solutions. Building on over 80 years of family history, Hope-Amundson services include new building design, renovations and design/build delivery. After working with Hope Engineering on mail marketing campaigns for a number of years, we rebranded their company and built a fresh online presence with a new website. The newly formed corporation was named Hope-Amundson from the two principals. The Studio designed a new identity, corporate communication materials, branding guide and interior signage to reflect the foundational strength, values and integrity of the company.

The new website showcases the voice of their brand through compelling photos of their profiled projects and of the leadership team in their downtown San Diego office. With the rise of mobile device use in the industry, their website needed to function properly on tablets and smart phones. Comet Creative built a new website and CMS (content management system); to help boost SEO and visitor engagement, and a dynamic news section was added. The firm now has total control of the website due to a custom-built, back-end CMS, built in Joomla. A new, user-friendly website was designed with a focus on simplified access and ease of

ENERGY CONSULTANTS GAIN NATIONAL RECOGNITION Brummitt Energy Associates are experts in whole building energy modeling. As Title 24 continues to put pressure on developers regarding building effectively, Brummitt’s message required a more consistent and direct approach. Comet Creative wrote a more vibrant, easy-to-digest story, along with simple and direct graphics to engage customer prospects on the benefits and ROI they would gain from getting Brummitt involved early in a building project’s cycle. These campaigns convinced the County of San Diego to hire Brummitt to do energy modeling studies on their 150+ buildings located throughout the county. Beth Brummitt, the company’s founder, was also asked to speak at conferences across the U.S. on Zero Net Energy and other topics related to energy savings for the A/E/C industry.
