ust around the corner is Memorial Day, and I know all of us can’t wait for the unofficial kick-off to the summer with this anticipated three-day weekend! Memorial Day, to many folks, is for relaxing and barbecuing with loved ones, but let’s not forget the true meaning of this federal holiday, which is to commemorate our U.S. soldiers who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Community Magazine wants to thank all our military service members, who dedicate their lives for our freedom and keep us safe at home.

With spring finally here, and summer around the corner, we finally have steady, beautiful weather, something to be grateful for (minus the allergies and occasional rainfall). With this, we have entered a season of outdoor events, you can find many events listed on page 17 of this issue of Community Magazine that are family friendly and even some that are unique, definitely worth checking out. Community Magazine has a new website, Facebook and Twitter account names, so please note them when “liking” us on Facebook (Community Mag NJ), following us on Twitter (@ CommunityMagNJ), or checking out our digital editions online (www.communitymagazinenj.com). With the summer months ahead of us, we will be giving away some exciting prizes on our Facebook – so remember to click that LIKE button, not only do we hold giveaways, but we also keep you up to date on local events going on around your area, we are a one stop page for all things to do! RARITAN HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

Help In Ortley Beach Rebuild Story Susan Murphy

This is the group of RHS students and chaperones who arrived inOrtley Beach to help rebuild.

R

aritan High School students were able to assist in the rebuilding of Ortley Beach in March through the Alternative Spring Break Program. RHS teacher Andrew LaBarbera created the program through the school’s Interact Club, of which he is the advisor. The work of the program is done over spring break and students must apply to take part in rebuilding certain parts of the country that have been devastated by natural disasters or areas that need to be revitalized. “Our first year, the group went to New Orleans working in the lower ninth ward with Hurricane Katrina victims. Last year, the group went to San Francisco. This year, after Hurricane Sandy hit, we made a unanimous decision to stay in New Jersey and work in Ortley Beach,” explained LaBarbera. This year, 31 students and nine chaperones participated. The entire trip is voluntarily. “However, admittance is contingent upon the application they submit. The application is rigorous and lengthy and has every student reflect on the type of person that they are. We had over 70 applications handed out this year,” LaBarbera said. The group worked with Waves for Water in Ortley Beach, who helped orchestrate who they would be helping. The area is usually chosen randomly but due to Hurricane Sandy’s hit so close to home choosing New Jersey was personal for the entire group. Funds raised this year for the trip were over $30,000 which covered all materials for the worksite, transportation, meals, cultural awareness activities, and any other associated costs with the trip. “This year we also donated $3,000 to Union Beach through Operation Provide Comfort, based out of Colts Neck,” said LaBarbera. The group was told that only 75 people were currently living in the town at the time the students arrived in Ortley Beach. They were also told that water and electricity still had not been restored to some parts of the town.

Community Magazine

The scope of the work that the students did in Ortley Beach was detailed. “On Monday, we planted 25000 dune grass plants and for the remaining three days we worked on one home. We took out all insulation in the house that was left from Sandy, reinsulated and sheet-rocked the entire first floor as well as an additional room which was the homeowner’s work room,” explained LaBarbera. They spackled, sanded and had the walls ready for paint. They cleaned up the property of brush, trees and debris and installed 26 sections of fencing around the property. The garage was prepped for the installation of a brand new garage door, a new sliding glass window was installed, the damaged siding was redone, a paver patio was made in front of the house, the driveway was re-graded and a new driveway put down, then they cleaned the entire property from front to back. An amazing transformation! “This was extremely emotional because we were in our home state. We saw many houses still in the water, cracked in half and destroyed, which was very difficult for the students to see. They handled the labor portion beautifully. Every one of these students is adaptable and I set the framework for them to aspire,” shared LaBarbera about the trip. All of the trips taken thus far, especially this year’s trip have a twofold purpose. “The trip is an opportunity to show students what they are capable of. It is also an opportunity to show the world that the young generations are responsible and if we give them a chance to shine, they won’t disappoint. The transformation that they go through is a complete 180 and this is truly a life-changing trip for them. It was full circle for the students because they realized they were able to turn debris and destruction into hope. The students work outside their comfort zone and truly self-actualize. I couldn’t be more proud of them,” emphasized LaBarbera.

KEYPORT KIWANIS ONE DAY SERVICE PROJECT HELPS HOMEOWNER Story Susan Murphy

K

eyport Kiwanis designated April 13 as their Division 5 Kiwanis One Day Service Project date and cleaned out a shed, then repaired and renovated other areas of a home in Keansburg. The group consisting of Holmdel Kiwanis members, Key Club members of high schools in Keyport, Keansburg, Holmdel, and M.A.S.T., as well as members of Circle K of Monmouth University worked painted the foundation, retiled a section of the bathroom, put up sheet rock on the porch, and raked the yard.

“Our number one priority is to be safe today and wear gloves, and if necessary, a work mask,” emphasized Keyport Kiwanis President Mike Ellithorpe to the group of about 50 who awaited further instructions. Keyport Kiwanis Board member Teresa Martinez, who is a teacher at M.A.S.T., and her husband Paul volunteered for the day, as did Keyport High School Key Club Advisor Lisa Wallin. Both agreed that the project would benefit not only the homeowner but also the students working together as a team. Brooke Lichter, a Holmdel resident, said her entire family volunteers in many ways

to help the Kiwanis Club. She was been Vice President of the Builders Club in seventh and eighth grade and continued on to the Key Club and has now joined the Circle K Club. Newcomer to Circle K at Monmouth University was Trevor Gibson, who said, “It feels good to give back. It’s very rewarding.” One member of the Keyport Kiwanis also volunteers with Jersey Shore Work Camp, founded in 2000 by Bill and Gail Bechtoldt, and brought the need of the homeowner to the Club’s attention. Mr. Bechtoldt was unable to be at the location that day as he was assisting with another Keansburg home at the same time, yet he was updated on the status of this project. Apollo Sewer and Plumbing of Keyport was on hand to help and oversee a part of the project. Holmdel Kiwanis supplied hot dogs and buns; Jersey Shore Subs and Soups donated a six foot sub. Keyport Kiwanis meets every Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at Town & Country Inn, Highway 35 and Broadway in Keyport. Visit www.keyportkiwanis.org for further information. ven though the Steamboat Dock Museum located in Keyport, was washed out by Superstorm Sandy, the Keyport Historical Society is certainly not washed up!

Even without their beloved Steamboat Dock Museum the Keyport Historical Society, in keeping with past traditions, opened their 2013 season with a presentation: “The History of the East Keyport School” by Mrs. Elizabeth Walling, a longtime local resident, held at the Keyport Senior Center. Upcoming presentations/events include:

The Keyport Historical Society will also be holding its annual Yard Sale at 80 Main Street, Keyport (June 15 10:00a.m.-3:00p.m.), Art & Craft Show and Sale (September 14, location & time TBA), Tea and Fashion Show at the Keyport Yacht Club (October 19, 1:00p.m.4:00p.m.) and Candlelight House Tour (December 14, 4:00p.m.9:00p.m.). On October 29, 2012 the Keyport Historical Society lost the Steamboat Dock Museum to Superstorm Sandy’s surge into the Raritan Bay. The Society was able to remove red tagged items and other artifacts before the storm but lost a lot of the collection that could not be removed. The storm left a shell of the building yet artifacts were uncovered in the rubble as well as by people in surrounding towns who found pieces of the collection in their front and back yards, as well as in creek beds and other areas. The Society is progressing forward looking into options for another museum, fundraising and gathering pre-storm and post storm artifacts, as well as new donations and placing them together in a temperature controlled storage area in Keyport. More valuable artifacts, removed before the storm, are kindly being held by the Monmouth County Historical Society until we can fund another museum. The Society is learning how to rehabilitate and clean items with the help of the Monmouth County Historical Society and other professionals. The Keyport Historical Society was created in 1972 when the infamous Kearney Mansion was set to be demolished after years of sitting abandoned. Charter members acquired items from the mansion which began the collection of Keyport’s rich history at the Steamboat Dock Museum for the next 40 years. The museum opened in 1976 and housed over 4,000 Keyport artifacts. For more information, visit www.keyporthistoricalsociety.com or email keyporthistoricalsociety@gmail.com

he Interact Club of Raritan High School presented a $3,000 check to Operation Provide Comfort to help the residents of Union Beach, NJ, rebuild their homes after Hurricane Sandy. Interact is Rotary International’s service club for young people ages 12 to 18. Interact clubs are sponsored by individual Rotary clubs, which provide support and guidance, but they are self-governing and self-supporting. This year’s theme for Raritan HS Interact 2013 is “We are the initiative.” The Interact Club, aside from various events and charity work, attends an alternative spring break trip each year. The students within the club go through a strenuous application process to be accepted onto the alternative spring break trip, and this year was no different.

In previous years, the club has gone to places like New Orleans and San Francisco to work with Habitat For Humanity, helping to rebuild communities where disaster has struck. This year, the Interact Club was raising money to fund their trip to Alabama to help residents still impacted by Hurricane Katrina, but then Hurricane Sandy hit home. Raritan High School’s Interact Club Advisor, Mr. Andrew LaBarbera said, “I couldn’t, in good conscience, take the kids to Alabama knowing that we were hurting so badly in our very own state. We decided to stay in New Jersey for the spring break and do what we could here.” The Club will also be out in the field this spring break, helping to rebuild dunes, houses, and restaurants in Mantoloking, NJ. Once the Interact Club students and advisors made the decision to stay in their home state, there were funds available for distribution. After hearing about Operation Provide

Comfort and their “Help Drive Us Up A Wall” campaign, the students decided to give their extra funds to a charity closer to home. The “Help Drive Us Up A Wall” campaign was recently launched to fund building materials needed by Union Beach residents. By providing OPC with a donation of $3,000, the Raritan High School students were able to kick-start the campaign and purchase enough materials to rebuild a six-room home in Union Beach. Union Beach Borough Administrator Jennifer Maier was humbled and grateful for the generous donation, and Operation Provide Comfort was excited to have such a motivated group of young adults jumpstart their campaign. orth Centerville Fire Company held their 12th Annual Comedy Night on April 13 at the firehouse. Ticket price included open bar, food, the show, and a DJ afterward. The show featured comedians Gary DeLena and Melvin George who were provided by Len Schlosberg, owner of Leonard Talent Associates, Inc. DeLena has appeared on television and in films, as well as performing on many cruise ships. preparing for this night,” said Captain Joseph Sarro. “We made several of the dishes ourselves and had the rest catered,” he added. Guests took part in a 50/50 raffle and a separate raffle for the chance to win a 32” LED Westinghouse television. There will be other upcoming fundraisers noted the Captain. All proceeds from the Comedy Show and future events will go toward the North Centerville Fire Company’s 9/11 Memorial that will incorporate the two steel beams from the World Trade Center that were delivered to the firehouse in August, 2012.

Sponsorship Opportunities for Area Businesses & Groups at 2013 Town-Wide

Aberdeen Day Festivities

S

ponsorship and a variety of other opportunities are now available for local businesses and organizations for the second annual town-wide Aberdeen Day celebration on Saturday, September 21 at Matawan Regional High School and various locations around town.

“Sponsorship of Aberdeen Day offers local businesses the opportunity to introduce themselves to the thousands of residents of all ages from Aberdeen and surrounding communities who take part in our annual event,” said Aberdeen Recreation Director Jim Colabelli, whose department is working alongside the Aberdeen Economic Business Council (EBC) to organize Aberdeen Day. “Businesses are the lifeline of the community,” added Carmine Visone, Chairman of the Aberdeen EBC. “Beyond the traditional sponsorships, there are now a variety of ways for businesses to make themselves known to residents from all over town through storefront sales, appearing at the new Business Expo or setting up a table at the high school.” This year’s event will mark the second year in a row that Aberdeen Day will be celebrated town-wide, starting with a family fishing contest at Cliffwood Beach, followed by the traditional family celebration at Matawan Regional High School, a Business Expo planned for shopping centers on Route 34, the Aberdeen’s Got Talent contest at the AMF Center on Route 34, and softball games between the town’s police, fire and DPW departments at Fireman’s Field, capped by a planned grand finale fireworks display. With multiple levels of sponsorship and participation programs ranging in price from $50 to $1,000, opportunities exist for businesses of all sizes and budgets. High School sponsorship packages priced from $250 to $1,000 offer exposure prior to and during the municipality’s annual celebration, including mentions on the township website, and in press releases, advertising and on signage at the event. Businesses and crafters can exhibit at the High School for $50. The venue fee for food vendors is $100, while volunteer, entertainment and youth groups can participate free of charge. Outside of the High School, merchants can participate in Business Expo or Storefront events for $50 per location or opt for sponsorship opportunities ranging from $75 for T-shirt advertising, $100 for signage at Aberdeen’s Got Talent, $150 for softball field banners and $500 for large banners on Routes 34 or 35. All funds raised from Aberdeen Day on behalf of the EBC will benefit the Aberdeen Fire Department to purchase updated Fire Safety Training Equipment used for providing fire extinguisher instruction to area businesses and schools. In lieu of participation in Aberdeen Day, businesses are welcome to make monetary donations directly to this initiative. All donations are tax deductible. For more information or to obtain sponsorship materials, visit http://aberdeennj.org/events/Aberdeen_Day2013.pdf. Applications are due by June 1. For information regarding the events taking place at Matawan Regional High School, contact Aberdeen Township Recreation Director Jim Colabelli at 732.583.4200, ext. 134, 129 or 173. Castle of Dreams Animal Rescue Receives $10,000 Petco Foundation Grant to Support Animal Welfare Efforts in Monmouth County

C

astle of Dreams Animal Rescue (CODAR) based in Monmouth County, NJ announced they have been awarded a $10,000 grant from the Petco Foundation to fund a transportation vehicle which will be utilized to assist the organization with transporting rescue dogs and puppies from high kill shelters to foster homes and transport the animals to veterinary appointments and adoption days. CODAR is a non-profit organization whose mission is to rescue dogs and puppies from high kill shelters and place them in loving homes. All rescued pets are kept in foster care until adopted, as the organization works to build a Shelter of Dreams. CODAR has been rescuing canines since 2003 and has placed over 3,000 animals in loving homes. Our adopters include such noted celebrities as Christopher Meloni, Kelsey Grammer and most recently, Cesar Milan.

Fantastic Old Manor Location!

The volunteers of the organization were devastated when Hurricane Sandy destroyed their recently donated vehicle and most of the supplies housed in the vehicle. The outpouring of support from the community has been tremendous. “We are very grateful to the Petco Foundation for approving our grant. The old vehicle was relied on heavily to pick up multiple dogs and puppies on a weekly basis,” Vice President of Operations, Pamela Frasco said. The Petco Foundation has served as a voice for companion animals across the country since 1999. Today, with more than 9,500 local animal-welfare partners across the country, the foundation donates approximately $15 million a year to make a difference in the lives of millions of animals. The organization is funded through donations raised during fundraisers conducted in Petco’s more than 1,200 stores across the country, as well as from Petco associates, vendors and corporate contributions. Money raised helps fund animal-welfare organizations, spay and neuter efforts, animal-assisted therapy programs and humane education. The majority of the funds raised remain in the communities where they were raised, and the Petco Foundation is also involved in many national animal-welfare efforts. In 2012, the Petco Foundation surpassed $100 million in funds raised for companion animals since the organization was created. To learn more, visit www.petcofoundation.org. CODAR truly makes dreams come true for all animals rescued through our organization. We save animals from high kill shelters throughout the United States. We do not currently have a physical location for you to see our pets. Our goal is to raise funds to one day open a Shelter of Dreams where all of our rescued pets can live like kings and queens until adopted. We currently operate as a network of foster homes. All rescued animals are vetted, and given the proper care, love and attention they deserve, until they find the forever family they so desperately need. Codar relies solely on adoption donations and donations from the general public in order to operate. CODAR is an all-volunteer organization. All donations are tax deductible and are utilized strictly for the rescue and care of our animals. For further information on our organization or become a volunteer, please visit our website at www.castle-of-dreams.com. Castle-of-Dreams Animal Rescue (CODAR) is a recognized 501(c) (3) non-profit canine only animal rescue organization that was incorporated in June of 2003.

LIONS CLUB FROM PENNSYLVANIA DELIVER FOOD TO HAZLET AREA

Pennsylvania and Middletown Lions Club members as well as volunteers from Jersey Shore Workcamp and the church gather for a picture prior to unloading the boxes of food. Far right in yellow reflective jacket is Bill Bechtoldt, coordinator for this delivery in New Jersey.

L

ions Club 14-D of Pennsylvania’s Lancaster and Lebanon counties wanted to help this area of the Jersey Shore that was hard-hit by Hurricane Sandy. Their plan to help resulted in the collection of four and a half tons of non-perishable food items!

On April 21, six Lions Club members from Pennsylvania arrived at St. John’s United Methodist Church in Hazlet, New Jersey. Their truck held 230 boxes of food. Half was unloaded at the Church and the remaining boxes were being delivered to the Coney Island Food Bank in New York. Christiana (PA) Lions Club member Jim Groff and Schoeneck (PA) Lions Club member Deb Burkholder coordinated the food drive and the trip to New Jersey. They knew of the need in New Jersey and wanted to do something to help. “So over a two-day period, we held a food drive outside of Redners Market and Martins Market in Pennsylvania. People were very generous and we collected three and a half tons of non-perishables,” explained Ms. Burkholder. Another Lions Club in the area made a financial donation and they were able to purchase another ton of food.

Story Susan Murphy

Left to right: Christiana (PA) Lions Club member Jim Groff, Middletown Lions Club member and coordinator for Jersey Shore Workcamp Bill Bechtoldt, and Schoeneck (PA) Lions Club member Deb Burkholder worked together to collect and deliver much-needed boxes of food items to this area.

Lions International was able to connect Mr. Groff with Middletown Lions Club member Bill Bechtoldt, who is also the local coordinator for Jersey Shore Workcamp. Mr. Groff has made the trip from Pennsylvania to New Jersey every weekend since Thanksgiving to assist with rebuilding in the area. “Through Jim and his volunteers I was able to complete three homes,” said Mr. Bechtoldt. From his visits to the area, Mr. Groff saw the need in New Jersey and passed this on to his fellow Lions in Pennsylvania, which resulted in the idea for the food drive. Mr. Bechtoldt explained how the food would be distributed in this area. “The food will go to Union Beach Town Hall, Keyport Ministerium Food Pantry, Red Bank Food Pantry, some residents in Keansburg, Croydon Hall in Middletown, and some will stay here at St. John’s Church.” From their first meeting, Mr. Bechtoldt said he and Mr. Groff have shared “a great relationship.” Thanks to Lions Club 14-D, Pennsylvania’s Lancaster and Lebanon counties, many local residents will have much-needed food items for their families.

Matawan Historical Society Meeting Scheduled for May 20th The Matawan Historical Society will hold its next meeting at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, May 20 at the Burrowes Mansion, 94 Main Street in Matawan. Award-winning educator, writer and lecturer William Chemerka will present a program entitled “General Joseph Warren Revere: The Gothic Saga of Paul Revere’s Grandson.” Light refreshments will be served after the program. Keyport Kiwanis Annual Chicken Fry A Delicious Success

Story Susan Murphy

K

iwanis Club of Keyport held their annual Chicken Fry on April 8 at the Town and Country Restaurant in Keyport. Based on ticket sales and take-out orders, President Mike Ellithorpe said between 600 and 700 dinners will be made and served. Over 40 students who are members of their school’s Key Club assisted as wait staff, taking orders and clearing tables. Keyport, Keansburg, M.A.S.T., and Holmdel Key Clubs participated. Joining the students were members of Boy Scout Troop#364 from Keyport. Their leader Mary Anne DeVarti noted that the scouts were assisting the Kiwanis Club in order to fulfill their communi-

ty service. They also helped at Central School following Hurricane Sandy and logged 1400 man hours. The troop is just as active as the various Key Clubs who assist the Kiwanis Club. Students interested in serving their community can join the Builders Club in grade school; the Key Club in high school; and Circle K during college. Two of the many charities that benefit from fundraisers such as this one that are run by Kiwanis Club of Keyport are Rainbow Foundation and Manna House, said President Ellithorpe.

Jazz Up Pizza Night at Home

More familyfriendly recipes can be found at www.Pillsbury.com.

Pizza is a staple for many, but with a simple twist and the collaboration of the entire family, making pizza at home can turn a pizza night into a much-anticipated night of fun for the entire family. “Pizza is an easy solution for busy families, but it doesn’t mean that you have to resort to ordering in,” said Gabrielle Wesley, at Pillsbury. “Including the children in making pizza can be a great opportunity to spend time together and serve a delicious dinner the whole family will enjoy.” For a creative twist on traditional pizza, try flavoring the pizza crust, which infuses the extra flavor parents are looking for in their meals while still providing a simple dinnertime favorite for the entire family. Moms can flavor the crust with ingredients like garlic butter, herbs or parmesan cheese. Kids can join in on the fun by adding the fresh toppings, such as sauce, cheese, meats and veggies. For creative inspiration, Pillsbury offers a variety of delicious and easy recipe ideas for home-baked pizza with flavored crust – from Garlic Butter Crusted Margherita Pizza to Italian Herb Crusted Cheese Pizza and even Parmesan Crusted Chicken Alfredo Pizza, to name a few. Try serving a surefire crowd-pleaser that showcases a simple but delicious twist on the family favorite with the Garlic Butter Crusted Margherita Pizza recipe:

Ingredients • 2 teaspoons olive oil • 3 cups cherry tomatoes, halved • 1/2 teaspoon chopped roasted garlic or chopped garlic • 1/2 teaspoon salt • 1 can Pillsbury refrigerated classic pizza crust • 2 tablespoons butter, softened • 1 tablespoon chopped roasted garlic or chopped garlic • 8 oz fresh mozzarella cheese, thinly sliced • 1/4 cup fresh basil strips

Directions • Heat oven to 400 degrees F. Grease large dark or nonstick cookie sheet with shortening or cooking spray; set aside. • In 10-inch nonstick skillet, heat oil over medium-high heat until hot. Add tomatoes, 1/2 teaspoon roasted garlic and the salt. Reduce heat to medium; cook 10 to 15 minutes or until tomatoes are thickened, stirring frequently. Set aside; cool slightly.

• Unroll dough on cookie sheet. Press out dough to 15x10-inch rectangle. In small bowl, mix butter and 1 tablespoon roasted garlic. Spread over dough. Bake 7 minutes; remove from oven. • Evenly distribute tomato mixture over partially baked crust. Top with mozzarella cheese. • Bake 7 to 9 minutes or until cheese is melted and crust is golden brown. Sprinkle basil strips over pizza before serving. By keeping refrigerated pizza dough on hand, parents can quickly and easily turn a night at home into a night of family fun. After dinner, pick a movie for the entire family to enjoy, or better yet, keep the conversation alive with a game of charades, cards or a classic board game. With a little creativity, making pizza at home can be delicious and fun for the whole family.

Hazlet Relay For Life Teams Hosting

Car Wash Fundraiser

M

ark your calendars for two of the best events this year! On May 11, Relay for Life Teams will host a Car Wash from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Carsmetics located at 404 Route 35 South in Keyport – next to Tom’s Ford. Carsmetics will be donating 10% of sales to Relay for Life. On hand will be Texas Roadhouse representatives who will be giving away appetizer coupons to anyone who has their car washed on that day. Keeping everyone energized and filled with a positive attitude will be New Jersey 101.5 FM Radio broadcasting live. Visit IHOP in Keyport on May 11 and 10% of your bill will be donated to the American Cancer Society. It will be an awesome day, so tell your family and friends! The second great event of the year is the reason for the Car Wash fundraiser and so many other fundraisers up to this date. It is called Relay for Life and will be held June 1 to June 2 from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. at the Raritan High School Track. Relay is an organized, overnight fundraising event that brings the community together. Teams of people camp out around the track and members of each team take turns walking around the track. Someone along the way gave a great reason for the track walk. “Cancer never sleeps, so why should we?” Raritan High School Math teacher Andrew LaBarbera has been Event Chair for Relay for Life for three years. He has a great vision for this event. “My perspective on Relay this year has been for the purpose of bringing the Hazlet community together. Since Hurricane Sandy, all the local towns have been affected financially and emotionally and need a symbol of unity. Relay is that for Hazlet, New Jersey. The Car Wash on May 11 is the main Hazlet Relay fundraiser that we do and participants from the entire Relay will be there.” All are welcome to join in the fun activities that will take place at the event. From tiny tots on up there will be something for everyone. Enjoy face painting, the Castle Bounce, apple bobbing, Bingo, a Mechanical Bull, Zumba, Buffalo Wild Wings Contest, Sports Trivia, and so much more! Opening Ceremony/Survivors Walk will begin at 2:00 p.m. A Luminaria Ceremony will take place at 10:00 p.m.; and a Fight Back Ceremony happens at 11:00 p.m. Only registered teams/participants will be permitted to stay past 11:00 p.m. The Closing Ceremony will take place at 6:00 a.m. More detailed information can be found at www.relayforlife.org/hazletnj. On Twitter - @Relay4Life07730 or on Facebook at Hazlet Relay For Life. Raritan High School is located at 419 Middle Road, Hazlet. Make the May 11 Car Wash and the June 1 to June 2 Relay for Life events be two of the best things you do this year! Cancer affects everyone. Relay for Life, an American Cancer Society movement, gives communities everywhere the opportunity to Celebrate those who have battled cancer, Remember loved ones lost, and to join together to Fight Back. You will be moved by the camaraderie and touched by the love and support among the survivors.
