JUSTIN STONE (left) of Air Trampoline dropped off over 400+ pounds of donated food to Keyport Ministerium Food Pantry from the Thanksgiving Food Drive held at the Aberdeen trampoline park. NATALIE SMITH of Keyport, a volunteer, accepted the donation on behalf of the pantry.
PATRONS TO A TRAMPOLINE PARK IN ABERDEEN came in with more than an urge to elevate, they jumped at the chance to donate to the park’s inaugural Thanksgiving food drive. Air Trampoline Sports held its drive through the first three weeks of November, collecting donations on behalf of the Keyport Ministerium Food Pantry. Ken Stone, owner of Air Trampoline Sports, was in the giving spirit as well, offering a $2 discount to park admission for patrons who donated to the drive. “We had an incredible turnout,” remarked Mr. Stone. “It was warming to see our jumpers give the amount of food they did. We offered incentive to donate at least one item because every contribution helps. Our jumpers could’ve gotten reduced admission for giving a single can of corn, but they came in carrying bags full of food.” The Keyport Food Pantry holds a Thanksgiving Food Drive at the start of every fall, distributing the collected non-perishable food items - along with turkeys - to disadvantaged families in the area. “The Pantry and the families receiving the donated food really have our jumpers to thank. Sure, we put a collection box in our lobby and offered a discount to donors, but our jumpers are the ones who made this possible.” Air Trampoline Sports has recently enjoyed organizing a number of philanthropic efforts, giving discounts to donors to their Back to School Supply Drive, and promoting Childhood Obesity Awareness Month through September. The trampoline park also has a Good Grades program, offering reduced admission for students who come in and show A or B marks on their report cards. Air Trampoline Sports donated $400 to Breast Intentions, a local charitable fundraising organization supporting cancer patients and survivors, in honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October. The trampoline park also gave back to the men, women and family of the armed forces with Military Families Week in light of Veteran’s Day, offering a 25% discount to family admission along with complimentary ice cream. “We make it a point here to give back,” said Mr. Stone. “I believe businesses have the potential to make positive changes in their communities. We’re taking it upon ourselves to do so and lead by example.” Air Trampoline Sports must be doing something right, because in November, a young boy celebrating his tenth birthday at the trampoline park decided to donate all his presents to charity. “Although we set the precedent to be philanthropic, what’s truly inspiring is seeing how active our jumpers are in giving back,” said Mr. Stone. A GLIMPSE OF LI V ING W ELL Gloria Nilson & Co. Event Offers Interested Buyers a Preview of Luxury Living on Colts Neck Equestrian Estate
More than 150 VIP guests turned out in Colts Neck, N.J., on November 8 for an exclusive preview of Grey Oaks, a 45-acre equestrian estate in Farmland Preservation located at 45 Cross Road, hosted by Gloria Nilson & Co. Real Estate. After passing through the property’s wrought iron gates and its idyllic tree-lined driveway, guests were welcomed by several newmodel luxury vehicles on display in the circular driveway from Contemporary Motors in Shrewsbury. Exclusive art pieces were on loan from Beauregard Fine Art in Rumson. The wine was provided by Grapes N’ Barrels in Sayreville. The reception hall, with its grand open staircase and marble f loors, welcomed visitors to the 10,000 square foot, three-story colonial listed by Gloria Nilson & Co. for $9.9 million. Tours of the grand ballroom and stately dining room featuring hardwood f loors, soaring coffered ceilings and hand carved marble fireplaces seemed most popular among those in attendance. The home also features an estatequality bar, family room and ample-sized breakfast room. The staff ’s kitchen has workspace adjacent to rear stairs leading to the staff ’s quarters. Realtors from Gloria Nilson & Co. were on hand throughout the entire property to guide visitors to key experience destinations on the property, including the spacious master bedroom with
its eye-catching fireplace, and a large walk-in closet and marble bath with whirlpool tub that completes the modern luxury of the master suite. Eight additional bedrooms and four additional full baths and two partial baths were just some of the home’s remarkable attractions. “Only a garden party or VIP preview event can offer one the opportunity to fully appreciate the beauty and character of Grey Oaks,” explained Donna Bennett, a sales associate with Gloria Nilson & Co. and the listing agent for the property. “Attending the event, seeing the art work and luxury vehicles offer a glimpse into the lifestyle of living and entertaining on an estate property. It allows interested buyers to more completely imagine life at Grey Oaks, and the feedback from prospective buyers as well as other real estate brokers has been tremendous.” The estate also boasts a 75-foot concrete pool with pool house, tennis court, eight-stall barn with f ly misting system, riding arena and jumping area. A caretaker’s cottage is also located on the property as well as a separate 3,000 square foot guest residence. For more information or listing price inquiries about the property contact Donna Bennett at dbennett@glorianilson.com or 908.770.3516. Gloria Nilson & Co., Holmdel Office, 732.946.3200.

SPENCER Spencer is a super sweet 30 pound, six-month-old boxer mix. He is up to date on shots, micro-chipped and neutered. He is a total love bug and loves to cuddle. He walks great on a leash but can get startled at loud noises. Spencer LOVES to play and loves being outside. He is well-behaved overall, but still a puppy so he needs some training. He is dog friendly, but is a bit submissive with bigger dogs until he is comfortable. He is not a fan of the crate but will tolerate a crate for short periods. His house training is going well, he is a smart boy and already knows the “sit” command. He is good with kids, but he can jump, so older children would be better for him. Spencer will make an amazing family pup!
ROSCOE Roscoe is a one-year-old, 65 pound mixed breed. He is calm and laid back and very friendly. Roscoe loves the dog park! He likes most other dogs and is good with children. Roscoe is up to date on vaccines, neutered and micro chipped. He’s waiting for his forever family to take him home.
MADDIE Maddie is a sweet, gentle, and smart puppy who is eager to please and on her way to being housebroken. Maddie is food motivated and is learning tricks; she can give her paw and is working on “stay”. She is a fun, loving girl who gets along with other dogs and kids and loves to be by your side. Maddie walks well on a leash, is crate trained and sleeps through the night. She will make a wonderful addition to her lucky, forever family.

She was presented with a Certificate of Recognition for her service as a Monmouth County Community Rating System (CRS) Coordinator during the Freeholder Workshop Meeting on October 8. Monmouth County created the countywide initiative to provide assistance to municipalities that participate in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) Community Rating System (CRS). The NFIP administers the CRS, which scores towns on their effectiveness in dealing with the mitigation of f lood hazard events. Earning CRS points lowers f lood insurance premiums for homeowners and businesses located in special f lood hazard areas in participating towns. There are currently 12 communities taking part in the program. The Certificates were presented to the Coordinators “in recognition of their hard work and contributions in implementing f lood hazard mitigation activities that have resulted in significant savings on f lood insurance premiums for Monmouth County property owners. A community’s participation in the National Flood Insurance Program’s CRS is only successful through the diligence and dedication of the local CRS officials responsible for ensuring coordination of all municipal departments and numerous public information and f loodplain management activities required by the program…The Board of Chosen Freeholders commends the community representatives for their many efforts that have advanced CRS and resulted in improved community resiliency to future storm events and lowered f lood hazard risk to residents and businesses.” “Maxine is to be commended for her diligence in

Earlier this year, Rescorl was also appointed to the newly created position of Business Liaison, in which she serves as Aberdeen’s point person for existing business owners and those opening in the municipality for issues ranging from zoning, building permits and certificates of occupancy, to outdoor dining, parking, loading zones, permanent signage and rules regarding grand openings or other special promotional events.

HAZLET FIRST AID & RESCUE SQUAD HELD SUCCESSFUL GIFT AUCTION S T ORY S U S A N M U R P H Y
Hazlet First Aid and Rescue Squad held its seventh annual Gift Auction at North Centerville Firehouse on November 13, 2015. The event had been sold out since August. About 250 people attended and enjoyed a great night of socializing, winning big, and sharing plenty of laughter. This event is THE place to be each year! Gift Auction Chair and Treasurer Beth Alpaugh said that the funds raised will go toward operating expenses for the First Aid and Rescue Squad. There were close to 260 items to be raff led which included a patio set, TV, and 30-bottle wine refrigerator. “With the variety of items to be raff led, we hoped to give everyone a chance to win something. With this event, we hoped to turn Friday the 13th around to become something lucky for guests!” said Alpaugh. Aside from the tickets sold for these items, a new-thisyear raff le called the Golden Ticket was available. This ticket allowed eligibility for every prize on display. Another bonus was the separate raff le tickets sold through the RAINE Foundation which was raff ling a TV. The First Aid and RAINE teamed up this year to do something different. Everyone who brought a non-perishable food item received a ticket for each food item they donated. These were used towards the TV raff led by RAINE. Beth Alpaugh is not only Event Chair and Treasurer, she is also an EMT. She shared this about the Squad’s 19 Maple Avenue location. “This building is in need of major repairs. The walls are deteriorating and major renovations need to be done. We have applied for grants but any fundraising we can do or donations will be helpful.” Alpaugh and the Squad want to protect their building, raise membership,
and continue to serve the community of Hazlet to the best of their ability. If anyone wishes to make a donation, please make checks payable to Hazlet First Aid and Rescue Squad and note on the check “Building Repair Fund.” Send checks to P.O. Box 162, Hazlet, N.J. 07730.

House of the Month
A small glimpse into some of the beautiful decorations that will be in the Governor’s Mansion this holiday season at Drumthwacket, created by the Keyport Garden Club. ONCE AGAIN, the Keyport Garden Club (KGC) will be a part of the special tradition of New Jersey garden clubs decorating the Governor’s mansion, Drumthwacket, for the holiday season. This year, they will decorate the Governor’s Study - installing the decorations will be KGC President Diane Calabrese, KGC Treasurer Anne Marie Reedy, KGC members Lisa Sessa, Lois Reilly and Marie Wagner. The KGC members who will be taking down the decorations in January 2016 are Mary Beth, Helen Graham and Tom Gallo – an overall group effort from the KGC. The mansion is open for self-guided holiday tours on the remaining dates: Wednesday, December 9, 2015 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Sunday, December 13, 2015 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and Wednesday, December 16, 2015 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Mrs. Christie said, “The holiday season at Drumthwacket is a special tradition that the Governor and I look forward to every December. Each year, I am continually amazed by the creative artistry of our Garden Club members who transform the residence into a breathtaking holiday wonderland. The Governor and I are again pleased to welcome visitors to tour the historic residence to celebrate Drumthwacket dressed for the holidays.” Admission is free, complimentary parking is available on site, and reservations are required on a first come, first serve basis – you can do this by visiting http://www. drumthwacket.org. Drumthwacket is wheelchair assessable. The Keyport Garden Club meets on the fourth Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at the Keyport Senior Center. New members are always welcome. If you can’t visit Drumthwacket this holiday season, the Keyport Garden Club is holding Nibbles, Nog & Shopping at Toad Hollow on December 10, 2015, located at 8 Main Street in Keyport from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m., where 10% of all sales will be donated to the Club.

TRUNK-OR-TREAT
PARENTS OF SPECIAL PEOPLE INC.’S annual Trunkor-Treat is a local tradition for special needs families in Aberdeen and Matawan. This year’s Halloween festivities took place at Cliffwood Elementary School on October 25, 2015. It provided a warm and safe environment for children with special needs to participate in a Halloween costume contest, activities and crafts with typical peer buddies, and culminated in trick-or-treating in the parking lot of the elementary school. Every family that participated decorated the trunks of their vehicles and brought candy and treats for all the excited children. This venue allowed children who have physical, mental and/or emotional disabilities to safely gather candy and treats without going door-to-door which requires increased mobility, as well as anxiety and sensory integration strategies. Parents of Special People, Inc. receives an enormous
amount of support from the community which was ref lected in the volunteers who participated at the event. Aberdeen Mayor Fred Tagliarini, Matawan Mayor Paul Buccellato, and Matawan Aberdeen Regional School District Special Education Teacher Susan Generoso, volunteered to be the Halloween Costume Contest Judges and also gave out an award for Best Decorated Trunk. The MARSD Board of Education President, Anissa Esposito, was also on hand to show the district’s ongoing support for special education students. Overall, it was a tremendously successful and heartwarming experience - for the children, families, and community members. For more information on Parents of Special People, Inc., visit www.parentsofspecialpeopleinc.com or like them on Facebook at ww.facebook.com/posp07747.

Matawan Troop 66 Flag Retirement Ceremony EVERY
YEAR
AT
Forestburgh Scout Reservation, when Matawan Troop 66 is at summer camp, they hold an American flag retirement ceremony and over the years it has become the highlight of the week. During the year, flags are collected from Aberdeen, Matawan, and surrounding towns to be retired with respect and dignity. When an American flag is no longer fit to be displayed, it needs to be disposed of properly. Troop 66 disposes of American flags in a way very similar to Military rules. The Scouts cut out the field of blue and fold the flag back up in reverse order so the stripes are outside and the stars are inside. The Scouts prepare the flags ahead of time, but always leave a few flags ready to be prepared by new Scouts during summer camp. Each Scout and adult present and then dedicate a flag and toss it into a campfire during the solemn ceremony.

According to Assistant Scout Master Ken Kinneman, he hopes the Scouts get a respect for the flag and a deeper understanding of what the flag means to them and to the country. In his words, “if we don’t teach and explain what the flag means, we can’t expect them to understand and appreciate the flag”. Troop 66 usually holds the retirement ceremony on Wednesdays, as that is when Bob Shea, Scout Master for over 30 years, visits for the day. He makes a point to speak with each of the 50+ boys in attendance, conduct any Scout Master Conferences needed and oversee the flag ceremony. Troop 66 wishes to thank the Township of Aberdeen and the Matawan First Aid & Rescue Squad for their help in the collection of American flags. If you have an American flag that needs to be retired, please contact the Troop at www.troop66matawan.com. Troop 66 meets weekly on Wednesday evenings during the school year from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. at the Matawan United Methodist Church, which is located on the corner of Atlantic Avenue and Church Street in Matawan. If you are interested in scouting, please visit www.troop66matawan.com or find them on Facebook at www.facebook.com/Troop66Matawan.
