NEWCOMERS AND NEIGHBORS ENJOY
Spring Victorian Tea Party
T
he newly refurbished Colts Neck Inn offered the perfect setting for a Spring Victorian Tea Party held on May 8 by the members of the Colts Neck Newcomers and Neighbors Club. Over 40 women attended with some wearing colorful spring hats. A variety of teapots adorned each table and samples of fine teas were at each place setting. Finger sandwiches and desserts were offered, as were complimentary mimosas. A short business meeting was held and current President Linda Kudler introduced the new Board; several of the activity groups within the Newcomers and Neighbors Club spoke
of upcoming events. During the light fare luncheon, the women expressed their enjoyment for this wonderful “tea party” and the opportunity to socialize with friends. Elena San Filippo, a longtime member of the Club who recently turned 100-yearsyoung, shared, “I wish that each one of these women would reach 100 and have a great life just as I have had.” Following the luncheon, Judith KrallRusso, a food historian and Certified Tea Specialist spoke to the group about the history of English Tea, tea traditions, the art of brewing tea, and the fun and mystery of reading tea leaves. Ms. Krall-Russo is dedicated to preserving culinary history and as a
speaker, educator and consultant, she allows her guests to experience the culinary arts as they were in previous generations. She is an avid tea drinker, and at an early age began to study the customs and history of tea. In September, Renee Robinson will be President of the Newcomers and Neighbors Club and Debbie Savo will be Co-President. The Newcomers and Neighbors Club is open to new and long-time residents of Monmouth County and its surrounding communities. Several smaller groups within the Club meet for luncheons, activities, and trips. For further information, call 732.526.7648 or 732.530.9543.

Don’t Let Your Money Go Down The D r a i n PROVIDED BY JOHN T. LEE CHIEF OPERATIONS OFFICER, DRAINAGE AND MORE…
E
very year homeowners spend thousands of dollars investing in and protecting their most precious investment, their property and home. Now with the nicer weather, many are planning on ways to improve their home and yard. New flower beds, irrigation, landscape, pavers, and other home improvements are in the planning stages. Sadly though, many homeowners watch their investments go down the drain, literally. Any investor wants to protect his/her investment the best they can, but all too often they simply don’t realize these investments are exposed to an overlooked danger, water. Estimates show that 80% of the damage caused to your home and property is caused by poor drainage. Hurricane Sandy illustrated how devastating water can be and how exposed we are to these damages. The fact is these damages are occurring all the time to your home and property in the form of poor drainage. These damages are often overlooked by professionals and homeowners. It is our mission to bring these damages to the forefront and empower people with the ability to protect their investments to their home and property. The leading culprit is rainwater dispersion from existing down spouts. If you walk around your house and property it will become evident that many of your investments are washing away. Rain water dispersion systems immediately disperse water away from your home to areas where the water will not cause damage. The quicker the water gets away from your home, the less damage will be caused to your foundation and landscape. Many times these systems can reduce or in some cases eliminate water entering your basement during rain events. There is another drainage issue that many homeowners have been dealing with for years - wet, soggy areas on their properties that never seem to dry. These areas are often unusable and become a breeding ground for mosquitoes and other insects. Year after year homeowners have tried to seed, grade, and remediate these areas only to be disappointed the next time it rains. Drainage is a key part of ensuring your property investments are protected. Water not dealt with properly can and does cause damage to your home and property. Before you invest in your home project, make sure you speak to a qualified drainage consultant that can assist you in making sure your money does not go down the drain. For more information, visit www.DrainageAndMore.com today!

KENTUCKY DERBY
& WINE TASTING EVENT
Colts Neck Lions Club Honors Sil Lutkewitte and Sal Barbagallo at the 7thAnnual Kentucky Derby & Wine Tasting Event
A
s they headed into the homestretch, it was clear that the Colts Neck Lions Club had pulled-off another successful Kentucky Derby/Wine Tasting fund raising event. The May 3rd gathering was the 7th consecutive year the Lions have hosted this enjoyable afternoon at Bucks Mill Recreation Center. Representatives of several local, national and international wines were on-hand to explain their fine selections and pour samples to taste. Many women exhibited the spirit of the Kentucky Derby by wearing hats that they transformed into creative themes or decorated with beautiful flowers. A contest for the best hat was won by Ann Sherwood whose hat depicted (and promoted) the Lions Club upcoming June 21st Bicycle Tour Event. A highlight of the afternoon was the recognition and presentation of the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award to two Lion Club members who passed away last year, Sil Lutkewitte and Sal Barbagallo. This award is the highest form of recognition and embodies humanitarian ideas consistent with the nature and purpose of Lionism. Sil and Sal were a model
of exemplary service to the club and the community which they served. Andy Lotano, President of the Colts Neck Lions Club, presented the awards to Mr. Barbagallo’s wife, Mary and Mr. Lutkewitte’s daughter and son, Martha and Bob. In an emotional speech, Mr. Lotano praised the two men for their dedication, commitment, leadership, stewardship and for their friendship. Lotano later commented about the day saying, “we had a great turn out today and raised a lot of money for the FIRSTSIGHT II Campaign. There were three cash winners drawn from the winning horse raffle, guests won some really nice gifts from the Silent Auction and the Hat Contest was very entertaining. We would like to thank our sponsors, donors, wine vendors, exhibitors and all those who helped make this such a big success. We look forward to doing it again next year.” As the afternoon came to a close, everyone watched on the big screen and cheered as California Chrome crossed the finish line and trotted into the winner circle.

he rain did not deter more than 325 people from attending Pocketbook Bingo hosted by the Monmouth County Board of Catholic Charities at St. Leo the Great in Lincroft in April. The sold-out event raised more than $17,000 that will benefit Catholic Charities programs throughout the county. Attendees included individuals, as well as large groups, many of whom brought tasty appetizers ranging from shrimp cocktail and sushi to cheese and crackers. The atmosphere was festive as excited guests eagerly listened to the numbers as they were called out by various volunteers, including Father John of St. Leo’s. Twelve lucky winners each went home with a new designer hand bag, including a Louis Vuitton valued at $1,250.

Local “Housewives”
Starring on Popular TV Series The rumors are true! No more speculation, the TV network Bravo announced on May 14, 2014 that their hit series “Real Housewives of New Jersey” will be home to three new women, and they all happen to live right around the corner from you – we’re not kidding. All Monmouth County residents, hailing from Colts Neck - Teresa Aprea, Amber Marchese and Nicole Mauriello – will be gracing our flat screens on July 13, 2014 on Bravo.
Photo: Left to right: Leading ladies Nicole Mauriello, Teresa Aprea and Amber Marchese – all of Colts Neck – with Joseph Brando at the cocktail event J. Vincent Jewelers hosted at Trump National Golf Club, along with Forevermark and A. Link on November 14, 2013. (Photo from Community Magazine’s December 2013 edition)
The following, from www.bravotv.com, is an inside scoop on the local ladies. AMBER MARCHESE has been a lifelong resident of the great state of New Jersey, living in the breathtaking, equestrian town of Colts Neck for the past 10 years. She is married to an unbelievable, caring, supportive man, James Marchese. They have a solid, loving relationship, with a typical fiery Italian side to their marriage. Amber is the mother to Corbin and Isabella and stepmother to Michael and Sebastian. The four kids keep Amber on her toes. She puts her family above everything else and ingrains in them traditional values; such as faith in God, proper etiquette, discipline as well as the importance of a first rate education. Amber graduated with a BA, then acquired a Masters in Bio-behavioral studies/Exercise Physiology from Columbia University. She has a passion for health, fitness and has created her own fitness brand called Vici fitness. Vici literally means to “conquer” and is a metaphor; as Amber conquers all challenges and interests. Diagnosed with breast cancer at 31 years old, she underwent a double mastectomy and a year and half of chemotherapy; all while caring for a two-year-old and oneyear-old, as well as her stepchildren. She attributes being a better mother, wife and person to her battle with cancer. Amber is a philanthropist who donates time and money to countless charities raising awareness for young women with

cancer and assisting them with the emotional and financial impact of the disease. Amber’s battle inspired her to pursue a lifelong dream of acting. She has completed years of acting classes, has appeared in several commercials and filmed a TV episode for the Food Network. The sky is the limit for her, and she plans on conquering the acting world and having a blast with it! Amber describes herself as an intensely passionate person who is outgoing, fun, and occasionally downright silly. Her faith, integrity, love and sincerity are driven by a never surrender, never retreat drive to be a better person. Her fire is evident in everything she does and is an inspiration to many. However, it also creates conflict with others and when that happens… watch out! NICOLE MAURIELLO is just one of a set of spectacularly sexy, fashionable twins. She and her twin sister, Teresa, are inseparable and enjoy eating, shopping and hanging out together. They are each other’s best friends. Nicole is the mother of two gorgeous and amazing teenage boys, Joey, 14, and Anthony, 16. Both boys take after her – extremely kind, driven and the life of the party. Anthony is a budding entrepreneur, while Joey is a freshman in high school; loving lacrosse and enjoying all the social gatherings high school has to offer.

Call us today for all your outdoor & indoor appliance needs! Like her sister, fashion is her game and shines no matter what the circumstances. From sexy stiletto Louboutins to classic Chanel accessories, Nicole is fashion-forward and ahead of every trend. Even in her down time, or heading to the gym, she dresses to impress. One of her biggest joys is cooking dinner at home with her family, watching movies, eating popcorn with a fire burning and drinking hot cocoa. It’s not all glitz and glam with Nicole, though, as she is extremely bright, and ambitious. She ran a family restaurant at 20-years-old, studied at St. John’s University, as well as at the American University of Rome. Even while at home raising her boys, she created and ran a home business focused on personal development and won a Rising Star Award. After getting divorced, Nicole started a brand new career in private aviation and works for a premiere jet charter brokerage handling high-profile clients helping them globe-trot around the world to exotic and exciting places. Nicole has a heart of gold, and a mind to challenge even the toughest intellectuals. She is kind and compassionate, but don’t dare mistake her kindness for weakness. TERESA APREA, a resident of Colts Neck, NJ, is one half of a dynamic set of twins. Her twin sister, Nicole, is her best friend and together they exude positive energy, love and are always ready for a party. Teresa lives with her husband, Rino, and their unbelievable son, Giovanni, 18. Teresa first married her husband Rino back in 1991, later divorced and

after 11 years apart did it all over again; at a New Year’s Eve bash in 2010 they remarried in their home. In her free time she helps her husband run their award-winning restaurants. They own Angelo’s of Mulberry Street (a true landmark, family-owned for years, and even Presidents have dined there), and Areo in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. As of 4 years ago, they acquired Ponte Vecchi, in Bay Ridge, which they have renovated and designed with flare and phenomenal taste. It is the hottest restaurant and THE place to be seen in Brooklyn, always filled with characters! Teresa loves to travel from one end of the globe to the next. She believes there is nothing better than traveling the world with family and meeting new and interesting people along the way. Her most memorable trip was a 3-½ hour flight on the Concord to Paris, the city of lights and love, but more importantly the FASHION! Teresa’s flair for fashion and unending amount of style are only overshadowed by her abundant amount of great energy and charisma. Fashion, energy and personality make her a magnetic force that cannot be stopped. She loves planning amazing soirées and dinner parties with lots of friends and interesting people. Teresa is a strong and positive woman, who is all about love and having a good time with family and friends!

n February, 2004, Artisan Studio opened its doors to students of all ages interested in exploring the visual arts. Owner Marlene Bohnyak, former Director of Art Camp for Marlboro Township Recreation, moved her home-based studio to the historic Hobart House on Route 79 in Marlboro. Over the years, Artisan has more than doubled its size within Hobart House as it relocated downstairs to its present location. The expansion has led to a great selection of classes, and an increased and more diversely talented staff. “Art is relaxing yet stimulating to the imagination; fun but also a learning experience in which to enhance skills and develop new techniques,” Bohnyak said. The mission of Artisan is to share a passion for art that leads to a greater understanding of how to improve general learning in all subjects, and meet the needs of all students while building self-esteem and helping them succeed in all areas of life. The studio offers classes for all ages, from toddlers to senior citizens. This summer the studio will enter its 10th year of summer camp for ages 4-14, a nine-week art experience with an opportunity for summer ‘nite’ classes for ages 7 and up. Throughout the year, Artisan offers students a wide variety of classes and programs. But summer art camp offers parents and kids a truly creative alternative for the summer camp experience. Artisan is so inspiring: artworks of students and staff are on display on walls and shelves, even hanging from the ceiling! They offer classes for all ages: toddlers to senior citizens. They also offer art camps for spring and winter breaks as well as their 9-week Summer Art Camp (ages 4 -14) where the minimum stay is for a single week. Summer ‘Nite’ Classes are offered for children ages 7 and older. Bohnyak said Artisan’s reputation has been earned by its staff’s ability to truly connect with the students and help them realize their full potential. “They truly want all campers to be ‘happy campers’ in every sense of the word!” Artisan Studio is also available for art parties for children or adults. Sunday Art Workshops are held the last Sunday of each month from October to March. For more information, visit artisanstudio9.com or call 732.294.0234.

Holmdel Native Brings the Jersey Shore to the Big Screen
Left to right: Peter Onorati (John Trevi) and Neal Bledsoe (Vic Trevi) filming “West End” on the Seaside Heights Boardwalk.
Joe Basile, Returns Home to Screen Multiple-Award Winning Independent Film at Upcoming Film Festivals
Holmdel native Joe Basile
STORY DEIRDRE A. LOPIAN
J
oe Basile was born in Riverview Hospital and raised in Holmdel. As a kid, he always had a fascination with movies. He recalls, after seeing Rocky at the once-was UA Cinemas in Middletown, he had found his calling. After receiving his degree from the University of Delaware, he packed-up and moved to Hollywood. While a working actor in Hollywood, Basile received his Masters at the UCLA Graduate School of Film and TV. Basile then wrote, produced and directed independent film, “West End.” The feature film tells the story of Vic Trevi, (Neal Bledsoe). Ashamed of his family’s mafia ties, Vic leaves New Jersey and never looks back. When his father (Eric Roberts) is murdered, Vic returns home with an agenda. “West End is my homage to the gritty crime dramas of the 70’s that made me want to make movies. Films that evoke emotion and make an audience feel the inner struggle of its characters,” Basile said. “West End” was filmed entirely on location at the Jersey Shore, primarily a pre-Sandy Seaside Heights. Basile said, “I wanted to make a movie that was reminiscent of the ‘after church’ Sunday drives I took with my father. To pay homage to the Jersey I know. That shows the gritty elegance that is the Jersey Shore. I didn’t want to play into the cliché of what New Jersey is thought to be.” Along with the support of the community, friendships with known actors and the dedication of a tireless crew, not only does Basile have the last cinematic record of Jersey beaches and piers before Sandy’s destruction. but the film has captured the distinct essence of the Jersey Shore. “West End” was screened at the Hoboken International Film Festival in Middletown, N.Y. on June 3, 2014 and the New Jersey International Film Festival in New Brunswick, N.J. on June 6, 2014. Also, the film previously screened at the Garden State Film Festival and won two awards: “Best Home Grown Feature” and “Audience Pick of Flicks.” The film also screened at the Soho International Film Festival and won the “Soho’s Pick.” The independent film is set to screen at the Manhattan Film Festival in New York, N.Y. on June 30, 2014. “West End” Stars: Neal Bledsoe (Ironside, Smash, Gossip Girl), Peter Onorati (Murder in the First, Goodfellas), Eric Roberts (The Dark Knight, Runaway Train, Pope of Greenwich Village), Melissa Archer (Beacon Hill, One Life To Live), Joe Nieves (How I Met Your Mother, 24), Isabella Hoffman (Homicide, Providence), Paul Calderon (Pulp Fiction, King Of New York, The Bad Lieutenant), and Wayne Duvall (Lincoln, Prisoners, The District). Foundation Will Tee it Up Fore Tara Once Again School teacher’s passing raises awareness on need to improve maternal health
NEWLY LISTED IN HAZLET
T
he Tara Hansen Foundation will host its second annual golf outing Tee It Up Fore Tara on July 7, 2014 at Trump National Golf Course in Colts Neck. The golf tournament will help the Foundation in the fight to improve maternal health awareness in the United States so that women no longer die from childbirth. Last year’s tournament funded an inter-professional continuing education maternal health conference in collaboration with Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. Taking place last November, the event hosted more than 300 healthcare professionals. The goal was to find ways to better educate healthcare professionals on the health risks associated with mothers. The funds raised from Tee it Up Fore Tara 2014 will support a white paper report and other projects associated with maternal health awareness and safety. Tara Hansen was a healthy and active 29 year-old special education teacher at the West Freehold School in Freehold, NJ. For nearly six-years, Tara had the pleasure of teaching children in her hometown. She was able to give back to the community and enjoyed every moment she spent in the classroom. Sadly, she only had six-days of motherhood with her son. The Tara Hansen Foundation exists to spread the word about this health issue and to advance maternal health awareness and safety. Expecting parents deserve equal education on the risks associated with the mother as well as the child, so that fewer children grow-up motherless. For sponsor information or to golf, please call 732.616.2114 or log on to tarahansenfoundation.com. We look forward to welcoming you as a sponsor of this year’s distinguished event, and becoming a partner in our fight.

Business Association
JUNE UPDATE
T
he Colts Neck Business Association (CNBA) is a proud supporter of Operation Provide Comfort, a non-profit organization developed to support NJ Shore communities still suffering from Hurricane Sandy. In May, the CNBA donated proceeds from their annual Luncheon held at Trump National Golf Club and will further support a concert scheduled to be held at Brookdale Community College on August 23, 2014 featuring local and national talent. Each month at the CNBA General Meeting, a guest speaker informs and educates the filled room with items and topics relevant to individuals as well as businesses large and small. This month’s speaker was Dr. Theocarides from Beginning Aesthetics and Laser, who spoke on Physical and Emotional
Wellness as well as motivational tips to insure optimal performance, success and life balance. The CNBA is also a proud supporter of this year’s The Colts Neck Family Day & Bicycle Tour sponsored by the Colts Neck Lions Club. This inaugural affair is a family event celebrating the Colts Neck community, and showcasing our parks and historical sites. Enjoy fresh air, exercise, treasure hunts, and a picnic lunch. Tour features include local parks and natural history, Colts Neck historical stories and more family activities. Please visit them at www.coltsnecklionsclub.org. The CNBA is a supporter of the 2014 Colts Neck Fair, scheduled for July 10-13, 2014. The fair will be returning to the “classic” COLTS NECK FAIR format – and more volunteers and sponsorships
will be needed. Please keep a lookout for opportunities to get involved in this great community event. ANNUAL HOLMDEL KIWANIS PASTA DINNER DRAWS A CROWD
T
he annual Holmdel Kiwanis Pasta Dinner held at the Town and Country Inn, Keyport on May 5, 2014 was both a night to socialize and a time to enjoy a great meal. The dinner, which included pasta, sausage, meatballs, salad, and dessert was prepared and cooked by Holmdel Kiwanis members in the kitchen that evening. Two hundred dinners were served. Helping to serve the guests were a Key Clubber from Red Bank Regional and ten Builders Club members from Satz School. The portions were generous and the food delicious. The food, drinks, and desserts were donated by Dearborn
Market, the Volunteers, and Holmdel Kiwanis members. Over $2,000 was made from the Pasta Dinner event, which will go to support local charities and scholarships for local high school and college students. Members from other local Kiwanis Clubs also attended the dinner. “Thank you to everyone who came out to help at the Pasta Night and bought dinner. It is only through the participation of the local community members who come to support us at our events that we can help make the community a better place for children and families in need, said Holmdel Kiwanis Club President Joseph Giordano.

Colts Neck Lions Bike Tour Set For First Day of Summer
A
fter months of planning, the Colts Neck Lions Bicycle Tour is almost here. The Colts Neck Lions Club suggests participants register online for the club’s first bicycle tour of the township, scheduled to begin at 8:00 a.m., Saturday, June 21. More information is available at www.coltsnecklionsclub.org. Online registration will save time on the tour day and help organizers estimate support needs. Registration will also take place at Bucks Mill Community Center starting at 8:00 a.m., where the tour begins. A picnic lunch will be served there between 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Water stops along the routes and other support will end at 4:00 p.m. A closing gettogether to remember deceased long-time members Sal Barbagallo and Sil Lutkewitte, and award prizes to participants will follow. There will be routes for all skill and experience levels. A course for young riders to practice safe biking will be located in the Colts Neck Reformed Church parking lot from 9:00 a.m. to noon. All other routes will start and end at the Bucks Mill Recreation Area. Three beginner routes of five miles or less will follow lightly traveled roads. There are three intermediate routes of five to ten miles, and five routes over ten miles for experienced riders; some ideal for strong riders who enjoy hills. Two of the routes can be connected end-to-end for a 41-mile ride. Points of interest include Colts Neck historical sites, all township parks and nearby Monmouth County parks. Five water stops will enable riders to fill water bottles and meet the sponsors. The stops will be located at Bucks Mill Recreation Area, Atlantic Grange, Five Point Park, Laird Road Recreation Area, and Big Brook Preserve on Hillsdale Road. A “Geocaching,” outdoor treasure hunt using GPS-enabled devices is also included. Participants will navigate to specific GPS coordinates to find the geocache (container) hidden at that location. The Lions Club will hide one or more new geocaches and provide coordinates and clues in the tour booklet. Those new to geocaching can learn the basics at www.geocaching.com/guide . Lions meet the needs of local communities in 208 countries, supporting sight programs and services including vision screenings, eye banks and eyeglass recycling. Lions provide eye care services to people at risk of sight loss and provide health programs that address hearing loss, diabetes and much more. Visit www.lionsclubs.org for more information. “I have been a Lion here for many years, so I have seen firsthand how generous and caring our community is,” said tour organizer George Sherwood. “In setting up this fund-raiser I have been blown away by the interest and support shown by individuals and organizations. The Historic Preservation Committee made their research available for the tour. Bicycle Hub of Marlboro and members of the Atlantic Bicycle Club offered technical support. The Colts Neck Business Association and local publications have promoted the tour from the beginning. The bottom line is this will be a day of outdoor fun, games and exercise that will help people in need.”

DIVORCE TALK
PROVIDED BY PETER C. PARAS, ESQ.
COLLEGE COSTS
T
he ever increasing cost of post high school education, whether college, vocational school or something else, is a serious concern for many parents today. It is an extraordinary cost that many divorcing parents of teenagers must give serious consideration.
Peter C. Paras is a shareholder in the Family Law Firm of Paras, Apy & Reiss, P.C. For more information please see the firm’s website at www. par-law.com. The information in this article is not intended as legal advice. For legal advice you should consult your attorney.
College costs include the more obvious expenses – tuition, room and board, books and required fees. Nowadays, however, the list of often included expenses also encompasses SAT/ACT review courses and registration fees, transportation to and from college several times per year, trips to visit colleges the student is considering applying to and application fees. Sometimes college coaches, computers and study abroad are added to the list. Most parents want the best for their children, but who pays when both want their children to have every advantage, but also prefer the other parent to shoulder the greater financial burden? In most circumstances both parents have an obligation to contribute to their child’s
educational expenses. On the other hand, both parents (whether custodial or noncustodial) have the right to consultation about and a say in the choice of school and the costs they can afford. Typically the Parent of Primary Residence (PPR) is most directly involved in the initial college selection process (not always). She/he generally has more daily contact with the child and often a greater exposure to the child’s thoughts and plans about college. It is the PPR’s duty to provide the Parent of Alternate Residence (PAR) with all the information she/ he has access to. It is both parents’ duty to communicate with each other and the child about the selection process and how much each can afford to contribute. Of course, the child has obligations, too. He must be diligent and serious about his studies. He must apply for financial aid. Often a child is expected to work during the summer to help defray costs and to take loans which he will repay in the future. continued on next page >>

COMMUNITY MAGAZINE WWW.COMMUNITYMAGAZINENJ.COM
How much each parent contributes and how much a child must earn and/or borrow is dependent on a multitude of factors. Among them are the parents’ respective incomes, assets, and liabilities, the child’s ability to contribute to his educational expenses, the child’s relationship with each parent and, of course, the costs associated with the schools the child is considering. When a child is estranged from a parent from whom a contribution to college costs is sought, the reasons for the estrangement take on significance. Is the child difficult and unappreciative? Did the PPR alienate the child from the PAR? Did the PAR alienate himself from the child? In several family court cases, conspiracy like behavior between the child and the PPR to distance the PAR from the child’s life resulted in no contribution from such an alienated parent. However, when the parent’s bad behavior caused the rift, the alienated parent will likely be required to contribute. Another important factor is the age of the child at the time the parents are getting divorced. When the children are younger than fifteen or sixteen the issue is usually too speculative to resolve in a concrete way and must be postponed. Will the child’s grades qualify him for college? Which college? How much will it cost when he is college age? What will the parents’ respective financial abilities be at the time? When college is more imminent, these questions can be answered and the allocation of responsibility can be determined.

Colts Neck PTO Successful Kitchen Tour

On May 2, 2014, the Colts Neck PTO hosted its “Spring in Colts Neck Kitchen Tour and More”.
P
erfect weather set the tone for the event, which entailed guests conducting self-guided tours of 10 beautiful homes in Colts Neck and sampling delicious local cuisine at each of the stops.
First time tour-goer Barbara Rosenbaum of Marlboro commented, “Wow! I had heard about the Colts Neck Kitchen Tour over the past few years and had always wanted to go. This year I decided to go for it. I’m so glad I did. A friend of mine went with me and we had a great time exploring homes, getting decorating ideas and sampling some tasty treats. I can’t wait to go again.” The tour featured something for everyone from grand estate homes to new construction, whole house renovations and kitchen remodels. More than a dozen area restaurants and businesses provided tastings to tour guests. This year’s event also included a drawing for limo service for the tour, courtesy of CAT Limousines of Freehold. Colts Neck resident Heather Mazza was the lucky recipient of the limo. “We are thrilled by the response we’ve received for this

year’s tour,” commented Chair Colleen Procyk of Colts Neck. ‘We had over 700 guests join us for the day, with many people asking when we’ll be holding the next one.” The event was a feast for the eyes and palate. Guests enjoyed samples from Colts Neck’s own Dee Dee’s Kitchen, Delicious Orchards and 4JG’s Winery. The tour featured cuisine from the area’s best chefs and restaurants such as Restaurant Nicholas of Red Bank, Lemon Mediterranean Restaurant of Freehold, Just Restaurant of Old Bridge, Via45 of Red Bank, Good Karma Café of Red Bank, and Marilyn Schlossbach Catering and Events of Asbury Park. Sweet treats were also on the menu. The tour featured crepes from Whipped Bites of Red Bank, cheesecake from Deescakes of Freehold, Italian cookies from Abbate Bakery of Matawan, chocolates from Robyn’s Sweet Boutique of Manalapan, and hand-dipped donuts and kronuts from DOCO, the Donut and Coffee Company, of Farmingdale. PTO Vice President Patti Riddle sourced all of the culinary offerings for the tour.
The event was planned by a small group of talented volunteers, including Tara Buss, Justine Buzzetta, Jacki Kronstedt, Nancy Loureiro, Laurie Manhire, Pamela Molloy, Sarah Pisani, and Patti Riddle. Also contributing to the event were Margaret Hernandez, Cathy McNeill, Sheila Olt, Ellen Schauer and Tina Villani. Procyk credits noted area interior designer Laurie Manhire of the Little Fish Company for being an integral part of the committee. Manhire lent her design expertise to the event, guided homeowners through the process, and assisted with marketing and sponsorship. Justine Buzzetta, the PTO’s Director of Fundraising, assisted Manhire in these efforts. The creative talents of Sarah Stepic of Stepic Design were also a key element in the event’s success. Stepic created the fresh pink and green floral logo for the tour, and designed all of the marketing materials, website and tour program. Jacki Kronstedt of Family Tree Photography provided the photographs of the homes. “Although hosted by the PTO, the kitchen tour is truly a community effort,” said Procyk. “The day would not have been possible without the generosity of the Colts Neck families who opened their homes for the tour. We also had many local businesses participate by sponsoring a home, advertising, or donating gorgeous florals and tablescapes
to the event. We are so proud of the amazing community support we have in Colts Neck.” Procyk commended Brian Olt of Designer Landscaping and Irrigation for providing the beautiful exterior floral decor for all the homes on the tour. “Local realtors, along with our own PTO members, donated their time to serve as tour guides for the day,” said PTO President Pamela Molloy, who organized the house volunteers for the event. “This dedicated team took care of the homes as if they were their own and we are truly grateful.” The event raised over $34,000 for PTO-funded programs for the children of the Colts Neck Schools. The proceeds will help fund new learning initiatives to be voted on by the PTO at its June Meeting. This year’s event was made possible by sponsors: Clockworks Homes, Coldwell Banker, Community Magazine, Designer Landscaping and Irrigation, Design NJ, Forefront Homes, J. Costantin Architecture, John Cifelli of JLC Management, The Journal NJ, The Little Fish Company, Living In Media, Two River Times, A. DiMeglio Associates, AW Eurostile, Best Tile, Better Housekeeping Shop, CMM Construction, and Villani and Sons Custom Built Homes. The next Colts Neck Kitchen Tour is already being discussed, with tentative plans for fall 2016.

Neighborhood Lit. Provides a Fun Place
For Kids to Improve Reading STORY SUSAN MURPHY
Imagine a place where a child is motivated to improve their reading and writing skills while having fun playing games they love. Picture a small classroom setting where hands-on instruction is given by certified, caring teachers who do whatever it takes to meet your child’s individual needs. This place is Neighborhood Lit., a unique literacy center located in Colts Neck whose mission is to provide a fun and interacting learning environment where children are motivated to improve their reading and writing skills, develop their strategic thinking and become lifelong lovers of reading. Janice Migliazza is the founder of Neighborhood Lit., and has been teaching small group reading enrichment since 2003. She is a 1992 graduate of Rider College with a New Jersey certification for grades K-12; received her Master of Science in Education as a Reading Specialist from Monmouth University in June 2007; and received the Outstanding Student in Reading award from Monmouth University as recognition of her academic achievement. Migliazza writes the curriculum used at Neighborhood Lit. “It is research-based and I consider the student’s strengths and weaknesses; the type of instruction they are getting in school; and the activities they enjoy most that will motivate them to learn. Instruction is intended to be implemented in our small group setting so the kids have constant teacher interaction and assessment. We have had great success with this instruction and results can be seen quickly. So quickly in fact that it is possible for me to constantly improve and update what we need to focus on based on student need. Each week a specific skill or strategy is introduced to the kids and we practice it using games and activities,” she said. Neighborhood Lit. started with 11 students in Migliazza’s home. “When my children were small I returned to graduate school at Monmouth University to freshen my teaching skills. As part of a project, we were required to implement a six-week decoding project on some of our classroom students,” explained Migliazza. As she was a stay-at-home

mom without students, she was granted permission to work with some of her friends’ children – four to be exact, who were in afternoon Kindergarten. “Our decoding class met three mornings a week before the girls went to school for a total of six weeks while I worked on teaching them strategies to decode or sound out words.” When she had to complete a similar project the next semester for comprehensive strategy instruction, Migliazza once again worked with the four girls and by the end of six weeks they were reading far above grade level. The parents were so happy with their progress that they offered to pay Migliazza to continue working with the girls. She created her at-home classroom, and handed out flyers at her children’s preschool offering extracurricular reading instruction. “This was the beginning of what has evolved into the Neighborhood Lit. of today,” she shared. All of the teachers at Neighborhood Lit. are experienced, certified teachers in the State of New Jersey and most have their Masters in a variety of education subjects, noted Migliazza. “Our school teachers include myself, April Ratkoski, Deborah Panteleone, Antoinette Salmeri, Taylor Burke, Kelly Lepkoski, and AnneMarie Balkovic. Our summer teachers are myself, Kelly Iadarola, Kelly Engles, Danielle Killmer, Trina Adelung, Kelly Lepkoski, and AnneMarie Balkovic.” She said that all of the instructors foster a personal love of reading and writing and dedicate themselves to motivating students to work to their potential and have fun while doing it. Some favorite learning Neighborhood Lit. activities for students of all ages include egg hunts; dodgeball; musical chairs; shaving cream writing; fishing; the basketball games HORSE and Around the World; bowling; four square; Bucket Blast; baseball and homerun derby. One of the most requested activities is the shaving cream writing. Migliazza explained that the children are given a glob of shaving cream and they spread it on the table in the Messy Room to make their own writing space. They will then finger write in the shaving cream. “Our youngest PreK students may practice writing letters; our KReadiness or Kindergarten students

will practice spelling and writing their sight words; and our older students will practice spelling strategies or listening for and writing punctuation. It is motivational and fun for kids to get away from pencil and paper once in a while and write using other surfaces and materials.” The impact the programs at Neighborhood Lit. have had on the children who previously attended and the current students is remarkable. Migliazza explained, “Our greatest success is that the children gain confidence. It is wonderful to see someone who is perhaps struggling or just simply quiet in their classrooms at school all of a sudden become a confident, risk-taking student. Or perhaps it may be one of our students who is doing just fine but now feels the confidence to help others in their class that may be struggling or need a helping hand. This is our greatest compliment received by the parents and teachers of our Neighborhood Lit. students. This is what makes what we do feel so special.” Migliazza said, “Neighborhood Lit. is one of a kind. There are no other literacy centers that provide this type of small group instruction in the motivation way that we do. We have been fortunate to see the results and look forward to continued success and being a part in the literacy development of as many kids as we can.” She noted it has far exceeded her expectations. “I have been fortunate to work with over a thousand kids and really make an impact in their learning and literacy skills. I am always amazed when I bump into the parent of someone I worked with years ago or even recently and they go out of their way to tell me how successful their
children are in school and really take the time to thank me and Neighborhood Lit. for what we did to give them this strong foundation and love of reading and writing.” One recent change that is new includes taking Neighborhood Lit. on the road. “We are doing some afterschool off site teaching by bringing our programs to local area preschools to give these children extra opportunities to read and write Neighborhood Lit. style. We are also always working to improve our reading and writing programs. Our future includes staying current and improving our instruction to continue to meet the needs of all kinds of learners. In this challenging school environment that our children participate, it is important that we understand that children learn in different ways individual to them and they need not only the skills to be successful but the motivation to use these skills and the understanding on how these skills can make them better readers and writers.” Neighborhood Lit. has been at The Orchards shopping center in Colts Neck for four years. “After about four months in our home, I had 23 students and was ready to branch out,” said Migliazza. Her first move was to the Folio building; one year later her class was up to 75 students so she moved to Illmensee Family Square, where she stayed for four years before moving to The Orchards. “We love our location. Our studio is such a bright, fun, environment,” she noted. Visit www.neighborhoodlit.com or call 732.625.111 for more information regarding classes for both summer and during the school year.

Venture Crew 10, a group of teens and young adults who love adventure and the outdoors meets every second Wednesday at Holmdel High School with former Mayor Larry Fink and other leaders. Klaus Rittenbach and other members of Citizens Climate Lobby, a local group in Lincroft who is part of 170 groups across the United States and Canada, explained to visitors how they could help to build a clean, green sustainable future. Karen Strickland, who coordinated the Red Barn Deli, noted that Karen Henderson donates homemade egg salad sandwiches which are made with eggs from the chickens she raises here in Holmdel. Henderson
noted that “Henny Penny,” one of the chickens she brought to the festival only eats organic chicken feed; thus laying organic eggs. Henderson has been a member of CILU since it began. Janet Berk, who coordinated the student volunteers and Strickland acknowledged the generosity of Dearborn Market, who has contributed fruit to this event throughout the 16 years it has been held. Bayshore Greenhouse and Garden Center and Holmdel Garden Center generously offered their floral contributions. Carol Beckenstein and Regina Criscione were co-chairs of the annual Earth Day Festival Committee. 16-year tradition continued on May 4, 2014, as the annual Earth Day Festival was celebrated on the grounds of the beautiful Bayonet Farm, former home of philanthropist Laura Harding. The Holmdel Historical Society answered questions regarding the authentic Holmdel Prohibition Whiskey Still on display at the lower level of the Red Barn; while on the upper level, visitors watched a presentation about bees, bee hives and honey. Holmdel Girl Scout Troops 1545 and 564 as well as student volunteers assisted children in making paper flowers and bird feeders. Beginning at Village School and ending at the park, the Parade served as a kick-off to the start of Holmdel Community Day, which was also held at the Park. I Indian Hill School in Holmdel Celebrates
ARBOR DAY
n keeping with Indian Hill School’s longstanding Arbor Day tradition, sixth grade members of the Student Council met with Mrs. Jenni Blumenthal of the Holmdel Township Shade Tree Committee to help “green” the school grounds. Mrs. Blumenthal shared some of the history and significance of Arbor Day, and donated an official “Tree City USA” flag to be flown at Indian Hill. The school’s Parent Liaison Group (PLG) donated a beautiful Amelanchier tree, which was carefully planted and watered by the Student Council members, which will take its place in a growing lineup of flowering trees that have been planted for the past several years along the far right side of the building. The Indian Hill Go Green Committee thanks Mrs. Blumenthal and the PLG for continuing this wonderful tradition. Next time you’re at Indian Hill School, take a moment to admire their Arbor Day trees!

“A NIGHT AT LINCROFT BALLPARK”
t was a baseball themed night held in the Leopard’s Den at Lincroft Elementary School. Students in grades kindergarten, first, and second were in attendance on April 29, 2014, and students in grades third, fourth, and fifth were in attendance on May 1, 2014. On both nights, parents and students came out dressed in baseball gear to engage in Language Arts Literacy, Math, and Technology activities, the activities being baseball related. The Language Arts Literacy activities involved using skills in word work, comprehension and writing. Each student had the opportunity to create their own Baseball Card, where a photo of them was taken in their baseball gear, which was placed on their card. There was a “Fast Pitch” station where the students could see how fast they
50
COMMUNITY MAGAZINE WWW.COMMUNITYMAGAZINENJ.COM
could throw a baseball. Students would then record their speed on a number line. Other math activities included place value Go Catch, QR Code Math, Story Problems and Addition Bump. Families were also able to take their best guess at an estimation jar. Families who attended on the first night were estimating Cracker Jacks and families who attended the second night were estimating sunflower seeds. Megan Molloy was the winner for the first night and Tyler Voitle was the winner for the second night. Each student won a voucher for four to attend a Lakewood BlueClaws game during this 2014 season. The prize was graciously donated by the Lakewood BlueClaws and their sponsors FirstEnergy. It was a night where families were able to come out and experience the fun side of learning!

If they do... They might have sleep apnea, a condition which affects breathing while they sleep. This may be why they are tired most of the day or may doze off while at work or driving. Dr. Young now offers an oral appliance therapy for sleep apnea patients. These nighttime appliances are very effective in controlling snoring and sleep apnea. In most cases, your medical insurance will pay for the appliance. For those currently under CPAP therapy, these oral appliances can be just as effective in controlling your apnea. They are much more comfortable, and can be used in combination with your CPAP.

SJVHS Baseball Team
Holds Practice with Special Olympics
On May 4, 2014 the Saint John Vianney High School (SJVHS) Baseball team invited children from the Special Olympics New Jersey Organization to practice with them. The Special Olympic athletes were able to practice on the baseball field alongside the junior varsity and varsity baseball players. Each athlete was paired up with a SJVHS baseball player who was their “buddy” for the day. The Special Olympic New Jersey athletes fielded ground balls, batted, ran around the bases, and were able to be part of the SJVHS baseball team for the day.

Holmdel’s Village School Holds 2nd Annual Village Idol “Competition”
as “Brian Seacrest”, he performed as an object of affection to the teachers during a rendition of “What Makes You Beautiful” by One Direction. During the performance, he was adorned with a green mohawk and rabbit ears much to the delight of his students. He also performed as a minion during a Despicable Me version of the YMCA.
On May 2, 2014, Village Elementary School of Holmdel held its second annual Village Idol. Village Idol is an event where the teachers, staff, and parents group perform in an American Idol style “competition” in order to raise money for charity. The word competition is used very loosely since there are actually no winners or losers selected. As one of the judges, Carolyn Bongo, stated after every performance, “That was the best act of the night.” The performers began practicing a month before the event in order to create near perfect performances. Some of the acts included Lady Gaga’s “Applause”, Pharrell William’s “Happy” and “Cruisin’ For A Bruisin” from Teen Beach Movie. This year, the parents group at the school even got into the act by performing their own version of the “Evolution of the Mom Dance” that was made famous by First Lady Michelle Obama and Jimmy Fallon. One of the highlights of the evening was when the lights
Mr. Brian Schillaci, Indian Hill School principal, even got in on the act for the 2nd annual Village Idol.
went out and the stage began glowing, while many of the staff in black outfits adorned with glow sticks danced to “Scream & Shout”. The principal of the school, Mr. Brian Schillaci even got in on the act. When he wasn’t performing his emcee duties
All the fun that was had by both the performers and the audience was in the name of a good cause. This year the proceeds from Village Idol were donated to the Sandy Ground Project. The Sandy Ground Project is a charity that is building 26 playgrounds in New Jersey, New York, and Connecticut that were destroyed during Hurricane Sandy. Each of these 26 playgrounds is dedicated to one the 20 children and 6 teachers that were killed in the tragedy of Sandy Hook Elementary School in New Town, Connecticut. The event raised over $10,000 for this charity.
Saint John Vianney High School Held Respect Life Rally On April 30, 2014, Saint John Vianney High School (SJVHS) held a Respect Life Rally on campus. SJVHS applied for and obtained a grant from the Diocese of Trenton called the Joseph A. Mazella Respect Life Education Grant. The funds were used to hold the Respect Life Rally at SJVHS and bring awareness to the issue of respecting human life. All faculty, staff and student body participated in the rally as well as eighth graders from Saint Benedict Grammar School. The students gathered around the campus and listened to speakers regarding the sanctity of human life. The speakers included: SJVHS alum, Rachel (Dougherty ‘86) Hendricks, President of Monmouth Coastal Regional Respect Life Group; Colleen Kelly-Rayner, CKR Retreats; Nathan Maurer, Generation Life. Students also placed small wooden crosses in the ground outside of the school which represents each life that is lost each day to abortion. The area is called the Cemetery of The Unborn. The Rally concluded with a school Mass.

RBC Offers Students College Credit Opportunities
Through Partnership with Seton Hall & Brookdale Community College Red Bank Catholic has announced its partnership with Seton Hall University and B ro o k d a l e Community College to offer qualified sophomores, juniors and seniors the opportunity to earn college credits for over ten courses. Credits awarded by Seton Hall are transferrable to over 200 colleges nationwide including Rutgers, UCLA, Georgetown, Boston University, Duke and U Penn. The program gives students the option to get a head start and potentially save up to a semester or two of college time and cost. According to RBC dual enrollment program coordinator Dr. Joseph Molitoris, “this program effectively allows a ‘college’ to exist within the high school curriculum.” Red Bank Catholic faculty members who have a Masters or PhD in their disciplines go through a certification process by

the college or university partner to become approved as adjunct professors. Currently RBC has over 20 qualified faculty members in disciplines including math, physics, computer science, English, theology, biology, history, business/finance, journalism, French, art and physical education. Course instructors submit their syllabus for approval by the college or university partner and students have access to the college’s resources while they are taking the course. To receive the college credit, students pay a nominal registration fee and must earn a minimum grade in the class. Dr. Molitoris points out that “by successfully completing 5-10 of the approved courses, the potential college cost savings is $20,000 – 40,000.” “We are very happy to announce the creation of our dual enrollment program. At RBC we continually explore new ways to offer our students the highest quality education and as many opportunities as possible for them to make the most of their time here,” notes RBC principal Robert Abatemarco. He adds, “part of our mission is to meet the needs of students and their families, and as everyone knows, the cost of a college education is daunting to most people. The dual enrollment program allows us help students obtain their advanced degrees at a significantly lower cost.”

Barter Really Does Pay for Monmouth Businesses
#1 Business Matchmaker at the Jersey Shore.
barterpays.com 732-364-4614 Making business happen for over 20 years!
90-Day Money-Back Guarantee!
This ad was paid with 100% BarterPays! dollars.
If cash is king, barter is queen. The number of businesses participating in barter exchanges is at an all-time high. In today’s economy, virtually every business has excess capacity in one form or another. New Jersey’s leading barter exchange for over 20 years, the BarterPays! Network has close to 700 active, local business-owners participating today. A barter network is a referral-magnet, set up to facilitate round-robin trading. Businesses find ease and flexibility of bartering with hundreds of different businesses that participate in the Network. Members earn barter dollars when they sell their goods and services, and pay for purchases with their barter dollars. BarterPays! and its six-member team, informally called the “barter gals,” serve as business matchmakers for their members. Faye Alba, the director of BarterPays! shares, “We’re so confident about the quality of our membership, that we offer a member guarantee of complete satisfaction in the BarterPays! Network – or we’ll exchange the barter dollars! No other barter exchange has this confidence in the quality of its program.” The BarterPays! gals are a powerhouse of marketing experience. You get their marketing and sales expertise as a complimentary service by participating in the Network. Free advertising is also offered to all members. Faye adds, “We work hard to drum up business for our members and assist them in spending their earned dollars. We enthusiastically recommend our quality members to the other businesses in the Network and guide them in utilizing their new revenue stream.” BarterPays! has many members who are in the throes of planning a wedding, mitzvah or sweet 16 using BarterPays! dollars. In a happy coincidence, one bride was thrilled when she was able to select the same venue for her wedding where her parents married 30 years earlier. Her father’s accounting firm is paying for the wedding with barter dollars earned by servicing lots of new clients who he met through the BarterPays! Network. The family also will choose from many different members for party rentals, award-winning photography, floral décor, wedding favors, wedding cake, limousines, invitations, hair and makeup, and more. Members generally go straight to the BarterPays! vendors first before paying cash for accounting, advertising, healthcare, and party planning. BarterPays! members carry a BarterPays! credit card when dining at popular restaurants throughout New Jersey, and pay for their meal and drinks with barter dollars debited from their BarterPays! account. Monthly statements are accessible online, and allow businesses to keep track of their barter earnings and purchases. BarterPays! earns its revenues by collecting a small commission. Or some businesses choose the optional marketing membership program that has absolutely no costs to participate. Members have used the barter dollars to retain quality employees. An auto repair firm often gives daycare and dental care as part of its employee benefits program. And other members treat themselves on barter to beauty treatments, massage, parties and fine jewelry. Faye concluded, “In addition to conserving cash, our members typically generate cash business as well because of referrals made outside of the Network, and because of their new pumpedup marketing plans. For many members, BarterPays! has become more than a barter exchange. It is an indispensable tool for growing their business.” For more information about BarterPays! or to apply for membership, please call 732.364.4614 or visit barterpays.com.

STORY SUSAN MURPHY
Holmdel Township PBA #239 held their annual Beer, Food, and Wine Tasting Event on May 15, 2014 at Addison Park, Aberdeen. The fundraiser was co-chaired by Detective Eric Hernando and Patrolman Matthew Menosky of the Holmdel Police Department. Patrolman Menosky and Detective Hernando were pleased with the turnout. “Last night was a success for the Holmdel PBA # 239. Everyone had an amazing time and around 300 people attended. We, of course, want to thank Addison Park for hosting the event for us. Their venue and staff are just what we were looking for. This was our fourth annual event and it’s actually the first time that we were able to hold the event in the same location. Our first two years had such a great attendance that we had to move locations each year to accommodate the crowd,” said Patrolman Menosky. He added, “There were members of other PBAs in attendance including Hazlet, Wall, Ocean, Matawan, and Middletown. Holmdel Township Committee members Gregory Buontempo, Thomas Critelli and Joseph Ponisi were also in attendance, as Freeholder Serena DiMaso.”

“This event was sponsored by Wine Sellers of Holmdel located in the Holmdel Towne Center,” said Detective Hernando. A Silent Gift Auction, coordinated by the detective’s mother Mrs. Hernando included over 50 impressive items such as gift certificates from various local businesses, golf attire, crystal glasses, swim lessons, fine jewelry, and a fishing trip for four. Once again this year a photo booth was available with silly props such as crazy sunglasses, hats, feathery headbands and mouse ears. During the evening, Holmdel PBA President John Allen presented PBA Silver Cards to Mark Casazza and John Stavola III. Both of these businessmen have gone above and beyond for the community and the Holmdel PBA, noted Allen. He added that these were the first silver cards given in seven years. “We appreciate the support we receive from all of the residents of
Holmdel and the community,” said Allen. He noted that the Holmdel PBA presents a $1,000 scholarship each year to a student from Holmdel High School or Saint John Vianny High School who is entering some type of law enforcement program after graduation.

Oak Hill Academy has participated in the exam and has consistently won awards for the last twenty-five years. Much of the credit goes to Oak Hill Academy’s Latin teacher, Miss Terry Burke.
Every Day Is Earth Day at Village School The Go Green Committee at Holmdel Village School has been busy this year! The children have been working with volunteers each and every week in order to reduce their trash and recycle what they can, including the usual cans and bottles, but also chip bags and juice pouches through TerraCycle’s recycling programs. During Earth Week, this effort took on a new significance, as students worked together to earn prizes for reducing their trash. The kids were also excited to see cans, bottles, and CD-ROMs transformed into art. Several of Mrs. Jaime Montana’s second grade classes created the colorful projects that show how beautiful going green can be! The week culminated in a festive Arbor Day celebration, as Village School welcomed Freeholder Serena DiMaso and other distinguished guests for a tree planting. The Monmouth County Shade Tree Commission generously donated a cherry tree for the Village School grounds, as well as saplings for all students participating in the event. The Village School Go Green Committee is grateful to the Shade Tree Commission - and to the students of Mrs. Devaney, Mrs. Murphy, Mrs. Pasquale, Mr. Dangler, Mrs. Bennett, and Dr. Riso for their wonderful performances!
