onmouth County native Michael V. Benedetto decided what he wanted for his future at a very early age. In fact, he was in third grade when he decided that attending law school was exactly what he needed to do. “I always wanted to go to law school but I never wanted to practice law. I wanted to be involved in real estate.” Fast forward to the present, and Benedetto has fulfilled his childhood dream. As Managing Partner of Ansell, Grimm & Aaron, PC, located in Ocean, New Jersey, Benedetto said he now has the opportunity to do both. “This gives me a different perspective than many real estate and banking attorneys. Over the years, I have focused more on the law, particularly since taking over as Managing Partner six years ago.” he explained. Benedetto’s primary duty as Managing Partner is to chair the Management Committee, which is the Steering Committee for the law firm. “We oversee the strategic growth of the firm. I also handle the recruitment, development and retention of legal and administrative professionals in accordance with the strategic plan. I work closely with the practice group leaders to help insure the quality of legal services we provide and development of protocols and procedures for the various offices, practice groups and the firm.” Aside from these duties, Benedetto continues to maintain an active caseload of corporate, commercial real estate, and banking matters. “I truly enjoy the practice of law and would never want to give this up,” he shared. When not working, Benedetto, a Rumson resident, enjoys spending time with friends and family. That time is usually focused around food and wine. “I have two amazing children. Olivia, who attends Rumson-Fair Haven High School and Michael (whom we call Buddy), attends For-

Joseph V. Brando Talks Sustainability & Responsibility in Sourcing Diamonds STORY: SUSAN MURPHY

Joseph V. Brando, owner of J. Vincent Jewelers in Colts Neck, has been designing and manufacturing fine artful jewelry pieces for many years. He loves what he does and will create a custom piece of jewelry that is unique and priceless. Brando believes that jewelry is personal and he prides himself on showcasing the finest pieces available. Among them is a display of magnificent Forevermark diamonds – rings, earrings, bracelets, necklaces, and pendants.

“Diamonds are the universal symbol of love, commitment

and eternity. We use them to celebrate important happy occasions in our life,” said Brando. What better way to make a dream come true than with a Forevermark diamond? In order for these rare and beautiful diamonds to reach their final journey, they must meet strict criteria, which only less than 1% of the world’s diamonds meet. Forevermark is part of The De Beers Group of Companies, which places responsibility and sustainability at the heart of its business strategy. A core value of the Forevermark brand is responsible sourcing. J. Vincent Jewelers is committed to protecting the natural world and the preservation of wildlife that The De Beers Group of Companies follows.

Brando explained, “We drill and dig deep below the

of Forevermark and the DeBeers Group of Companies is the proactive and positive contribution they make to improve the lives of the people in these mining communities and the tremendous effort to maintain and enhance the surrounding ecosystem especially wildlife … with great detail given to the protection of a variety of endangered species.”

Forevermark, as part of The De Beers Group of Companies,

notes that sourcing diamonds responsibly means that, throughout their journey from rough to polished diamond, particular care has been taken to ensure responsible business practices, support the advancement of women, and protect the natural world, which is the ultimate source of diamonds.

“Diamonds benchmark important moments in our lives,

past and present. It’s good to know when gazing down upon your diamond, enjoying its fiery brilliance and spectacular array of spectral colors that it was crafted from the Earth with great respect to the people, wildlife and land involved in the process. Our current ads would like to express our respect to wildlife!” said Joseph V. Brando. He is planning a trip to a mine in the very near future and hopes to share his journey with our readers.

Carol Stillwell Donates $3 Million to Oncology Infusion Center at Riverview Medical Center During Meridian Health’s Annual Meeting on June 8, 2016, John Lloyd, FACHE, president and CEO of Meridian Health announced that Mrs. Carol Stillwell of Colts Neck, president of Stillwell-Hansen, Inc., has generously pledged to donate $3 million to Riverview Medical Center’s 29,000 square foot BuildingHOPE oncology expansion project. The $3 million donation will specifically support the newly renovated infusion center, featuring 20 new infusion areas lined with floor to ceiling windows that provide patients with a tranquil view of the Navesink River. The infusion area will officially be named the Larkin-Stillwell-Hansen Infusion Center. “It is an honor to be able to give back to Riverview Medical Center, as I truly consider Riverview to be at the root of my journey with the Meridian family,” explained Mrs. Stillwell. “I have spent many days at Riverview with precious family and friends while they were undergoing various treatments and it was in some of those most difficult hours that I witnessed firsthand the finest care and compassion that the Riverview family had to offer. It is with great pride and in keeping with my heartfelt belief in giving back, that I support this major expansion to assist Riverview in continuing to provide for the needs of the future patients of our community.” Scheduled to open this year, Riverview Medical Center’s 29,000 square foot addition will include a combination of visual and technical upgrades in order to meet the clinical and emotional needs of patients. This is part of a larger commitment, in which Merid-

In 1993, shortly after graduating college, Jamie joined her mother and the two built the practice together concentrating on retirement plans with stints at Smith Barney, Prudential, and UBS. In 2004, Cafaro Greenleaf broke away from the large bank/wirehouse model, and became a fully independent firm to better serve the clients. A career entrepreneur himself, Wayne joined the firm as an equity partner in 2007, with a focus on business management and national growth.

HOLMDEL’S AL ALOISI, A MODERN DAY RENAISSANCE MAN STO RY S U S A N M U R P H Y

Living each day to its fullest can be challenging, yet one Holmdel resident has found a way to do just that. Al Aloisi stays active and maintains a positive outlook on life. Over the years a variety of talents have emerged and Aloisi now engages each one on a professional level. An accomplished pianist, Aloisi has never taken formal piano lessons. “I started playing songs by ear at age five. I learned a chord method and theory and how to read music when my older sister was taking lessons.” He has played for the three-hour brunches regularly at the Ocean Place Resort & Spa in Long Branch. On June 8, 2016 he headlined a concert at the Middletown Arts Center. His selections include standards, classical, Broadway musicals, ethnic and holiday songs. “I play at St. Ann’s Church in Keansburg and have recorded four CD’s on the keyboard and on a concert grand.” Aloisi said he can perform at weddings and private parties where an elegant sound is desired for special occasions. While he prefers playing on an acoustical grand piano, which he can tune

attained a singles ranking of tenth in the Northeast (New Jersey, New York and Southern Connecticut) at age 65.” He explained that as a PTR (Professional Tennis Registry) certified tennis instructor, private tennis lessons are available for students for ages 10 and over. Special attention is given to students playing on a team or planning to play tennis in high school. Aloisi shared that through a Visiting Tennis Pro organization in work/vacation eight-day contract arrangements, free tennis lessons are given to the guests at all-inclusive resorts on many islands in the Caribbean. “For the price of the flights and incidental fees, the only requirement is to teach two hours a day, otherwise there is coverage for the room, food and top-tier beverages. I have done this over 30 times since 1999.” As for playing tennis year round, he shared, “People jog and walk their dogs in all weather. I play with friends, year round outside in all temperatures, as long as it is not wet or icy. Each season offers a special challenge. In the fall, we use a leaf blower and brooms to clear the courts. On some occasions, we have chipped ice away and shoveled snow!” Three years ago, Aloisi took a Modeling course at Barbizon School in Red Bank. “With that background, I have been in a pharmaceutical print ad, acted in a short video production for an upcoming singer/performer and played the part of a grandfather in an ‘I Play America’ internet promotion.” Over 25 years ago, Aloisi made a mid-life career change and started Alfred Aloisi Associates. He did so after having been in the Information Technology field for 35 years as a mainframe computer programmer, systems analyst and consultant. “As an independent broker, focus is in providing life insurance and annuities, which provide a guaranteed income for life, and individual and group health insurance. Specifically certified, for consumer protection, I help seniors with their Medicare supplemental health needs. Some plans have a zero premium.” After noting all of the things he is involved in, Aloisi was asked if there is a specific way he unwinds or relaxes. He responded, “Actually, by engaging in different vocations and avocations, even switching from one activity to another and playing in Texas Holdem tournaments in Atlantic City is relaxing!” Aloisi also shared three things that keep him focused and able to accomplish everything he does. “Caring about clients and prospects, and listening to their needs; scheduling so as not to cause time conflicts; and total concentration in the present activity.” These tips are a great help to living life to its fullest! Aloisi has been married to his devoted wife Nancy for 42 years, and they have five children, eight grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Al Aloisi is 81 years old – yes, that’s right! He shared a quote that encompasses his passion for life. “By doing all the things I love to do!” And here is his mantra: “Retirement is NOT in my vocabulary” and “Youth has no age.” If any of the talents listed in this story inspired you, or further information is needed, contact Al Aloisi at 732.859.0527 or email him at al@aafinancial.com.

CLEAN OCEAN ACTION ASKS

“What’s Your Jersey Shore Thing?”

Member of the TNNA

Summer Business Campaign Launched to Promote Ocean Advocacy

CLEAN BEACHES, CLEAN WATER. You know the importance of both to the ecosystem and the economy. For summer 2016, Clean Ocean Action (COA) invites local businesses to participate in their coastal business leadership campaign called, “It’s a Jersey Shore Thing!” The campaign will showcase beachy businesses, sea savvy events and waves of fun throughout the summer season. In the 1980’s, the Jersey Shore was known as the “Ocean Dumping Capital of the World”. Pollution caused hundreds of beach closings during the summers. Today, thanks to hard work of local citizens, law enforcement and ocean advocate groups, NJ beaches are a premier tourism destination where millions of people enjoy the waves, sun and fun. In fact, the ocean is NJ’s most important natural asset generating over $32.4 billion in tourism dollars, and billions more in commercial and recreational fishing. The ocean provides this rich bounty for free, and all it needs is to be kept safe from harm and pollution. That is exactly what COA does. Just in the last year: • COA helped stopped the offshore oil and gas proposal in the Atlantic Ocean. • COA blocked four liquefied natural gas ports at the gateway to the NY harbor. • COA rallied 6,375 volunteers to remove 332,003 pieces of debris from NJ beaches. COA stands guard protecting your ocean assets, but they can’t do it without your support. Supporting “It’s a Jersey Shore Thing” is an easy and fun way to highlight your business as an ocean guardian, and raise dollars to support our mission to clean up and protect the ocean. Simply choose from the many ways to participate - just pick your dollar goal and have fun! For details on ways to get involved, call 732.872.0111 or email TWoods@CleanOceanAction.org.

The incoming fourth grade class also received an official welcome from Knollwood School Principal Amy Romano. “There are lots of terrific things happening here at Knollwood School that you will soon be a part of,” said Romano. “Together we will grow physically, academically, and socially.” “Most of you will even be much taller than me when you graduate from eighth grade!”

A TASTE OF BROADWAY, presented by the Navesink Business Group, took place at the Two River Theater on May 21, 2016. The evening was a great success; bringing the Broadway Lights to Red Bank where over 230 people enjoyed fine wine and food tastings from Red Bank’s premier restaurants, a generous silent auction and the most outstanding performance by The Broadway Dolls, which is a “Best of Manhattan” award-winning concert experience featuring a roster of the most dynamic and beautiful women of the Broadway stage. As seen on Access Hollywood and Entertainment Tonight, this Broadway revue with a sexy rock n’ roll twist is a theatrical celebration of Broadway music, rock n’ roll, 60’s girl groups and dance. The show featured music from some of Broadway’s greatest shows including: “Mary Poppins,” “Wicked,” “Mamma Mia”, ”Jersey Boys”, “Hairspray” and more. More than $13,000 in proceeds directly benefited St. James Elementary School for Capital Improvements. Established in 2006, Navesink Business group is a network of professionals and business owners based in Red Bank. Its business consortium shares ideas and platforms to promote new business opportunities among group members and the greater community of Red Bank. It also believes in giving back to the community, and a large aspect of its efforts is directed towards local community assistance. Annually, the group selects a local cause either in the business community or in the not-for-profit area, where it believes it can have a meaningful and direct impact.
