Life just got a little sweeter in The Valley!

Hello East Greenville! In case you haven’t heard the “Buzz”, let me fill you in. My name is Silvana , but I go by “Sil”. My new business has popped up right in your backyard in an effort to help re-vitalize and unite our town. We are “Hippie Chippie”!

I was raised in Pennsburg, and recently moved back into the area. When I saw a sign for rent on a small storefront on Main Street, it hit me that this just may be an opportunity for me to fulfill a dream that was once only an idea. Our grandmother began making miniature chocolate chip cookies 60 years or so ago. Eleanor Snyder, the original maker, would make countless batches of these tiny cookies and ship them to friends and family in 8 o’clock coffee cans. Reminiscing with family during the holidays, everyone waited for that old can full of cookies to show up in the mail! Now, 60 years later, we keep that tradition alive by baking several varieties of that same recipe including M&M, Butterfinger, peanut butter, heath bar, oatmeal raisin, and of course chocolate chip. Each order of chippies comes with your choice of dippies in our special dome-top cups!

Hippie Chippie Cookie Company is located at 233 Main Street in East Greenville. I am the sole baker, as of now. You never know what the future will bring. I’m a firm believer in the saying “it’s not the destination, is the journey”. Previously, I owned a child care center in Chester County. I absolutely loved teaching kids. Being with children is so rewarding. It’s a chance to make a difference in our future. Being able to make a positive experience in a child’s life, creates a ripple effect. Unfortunately, in March of 2020 Covid hit and many childcare centers

Hippie Chippie Cookie Company 233 Main St. East Greenville 610.310.3741

were mandated to close until restrictions eased up. I decided to close the center in November of 2020. It was strange because I knew it was time. Normally, I would have been heartbroken but something told me it was time to change.

Keeping an open mind is something I strongly believe. I didn’t really worry about what I was going to do; the only thing I wanted was to make a difference, a positive difference. What could be better than providing a community with nurturing, homemade, comfort food, cookies! Hippie Chippie Cookie Company is a happy, positive icon for the community and business to support each other. “Bringing people together one chip at a time” is my tagline. The other day, I was told a story that one of my customers grabbed a few cups of chippies, and ran to the bank to make a deposit. While she was there, she noticed the bank teller had a cup of Hippie Chippies. They compared flavors, and shared cookies with each other trying the different flavors! Complete strangers brought together over cookies! Isn’t life sweet!

When I am not baking Chippies, I love to paint, create pottery and go kayaking. My 2 dogs, Lewis and Shannon keep me busy

all the time! And if you are wondering what my favorite cookie is? I don’t currently have a favorite cookie, it’s like they all have their own personalities!

And if you need us to cater an event? No problem. We cater events of all sizes. So stop in today, and decide which chippie and dippie is your favorite! Share with your friends, or maybe complete strangers. See you soon!

Broccoli Salad

This broccoli salad is refreshing and so good! Make it a few hours ahead of time to let the flavors come together. It’s even better the next day! I use dried cranberries, and ALWAYS use bacon and cheddar cheese. When was bacon ever optional in a salad?!

If you make this recipe, drop a photo on our Facebook page. We would love to hear from you!

Active Time: 20 minutes

INGREDIENTS:

Total Time: 20 minutes

Servings: 10

- 4 cups broccoli florets, chopped into bite-sized pieces

- 1/2 cup red onion, finely chopped

- 1/2 cup raisins or dried cranberries

- 1/2 cup sunflower seeds

- 1/2 cup bacon, cooked and crumbled (optional)

- 1/2 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded (optional)

For the dressing:

- 1/2 cup mayonnaise • 1/4 cup plain Greek yogurt • 2 tbsp. apple cider vinegar - 2 tbsp. honey or granulated sugar • Salt and pepper to taste

1. In a large bowl, combine the broccoli florets, red onion, raisins or dried cranberries, sunflower seeds, bacon (if using), and cheddar cheese (if using).

2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, Greek yogurt, apple cider vinegar, honey or sugar, salt, and pepper until well combined.

3. Pour the dressing over the broccoli mixture and toss until all the ingredients are evenly coated.

4. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or transfer the salad to an airtight container. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour to allow the flavors to meld together.

5. Before serving, give the salad a quick toss to redistribute the dressing. If desired, garnish with additional sunflower seeds and crumbled bacon.

6. Serve chilled and enjoy!

SOD INSTALLATION

With quality products and lots of experience, sod installation is one of our specialties. Starting from seed, our thick, weed-free sod is grown by professionals. We always cut within 24 hours of its installation at your location. Besides the sod itself, we supply enriched topsoil, grading work, and soil preparation to ensure your lawn is perfect. When necessary, we remove your old lawn, rocks, and weeds to start fresh.

HYDROSEEDING

This cost-effective home hydroseeding method benefits our customers in many ways. Using the top of the line equipment and products, this is a process that develops a mixture of mulch fiber, seed, fertilizer, and water in a large mixing tank. We then equally spray this mixture onto the surface. Seedlings will appear in as little as three days. Hydroseeding is a good way to control erosion. Blends and mixtures we chose carefully to provide the best foundation for your new lawn. This method of seeding is much more efficient than traditional seeding methods.

Beating the Summer Heat... Staying Cool & Comfortable during the hot summer months

1. Stay Hydrated:

One of the most crucial steps in combating the summer heat is staying properly hydrated. Drink plenty of water throughout the day to replenish your body’s fluid levels and prevent dehydration. Carry a water bottle with you at all times, and opt for hydrating foods like fruits and vegetables.

2. Dress Appropriately: Wear loose-fitting, lightweight, and breathable clothing made from natural fabrics such as cotton or linen. Light-colored clothing reflects sunlight and helps to keep you cooler. Don’t forget to wear a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses to protect yourself from harmful UV rays.

3. Seek Shade:

When outdoors, find shade under trees, canopies, or umbrellas to escape direct sunlight. Create shade in your own backyard with patio umbrellas or install awnings. Limit your exposure to the sun during peak hours, typically between 10 am and 4 pm.

4. Use Fans and Ventilation: Maximize airflow in your home by

using ceiling fans, floor fans, or portable fans. Open windows during cooler evenings and early mornings to let in fresh air. Consider using curtains, blinds, or reflective window films to block out the sun’s heat.

5. Utilize Cooling Techniques: Take cool showers or baths to lower your body temperature. Place a cold towel or ice pack on your neck or wrists to provide instant relief. Use a spray bottle filled with water to mist your face and body for a refreshing sensation.

By implementing these simple strategies, we can effectively beat the summer heat and enjoy the season comfortably. Remember to prioritize your health and well-being during hot weather conditions by staying hydrated, dressing appropriately, seeking shade, utilizing fans and ventilation, and employing cooling techniques. With these measures in place, you can make the most of summer and stay cool and refreshed despite the soaring temperatures.

Essential Summer Car Maintenance Tips Celebrations!

As the summer season arrives, it is crucial to pay attention to car maintenance to ensure optimal performance and prevent potential issues caused by the scorching heat. By following a few key maintenance tips, you can keep your vehicle running smoothly during the hottest months of the year.

1. Check and Maintain Fluid Levels:

Regularly inspect and top up essential fluids such as engine oil, coolant, brake fluid, and windshield washer fluid. The summer heat can cause fluids to evaporate quickly, so it’s essential to keep them at the recommended levels to prevent overheating and other mechanical problems.

2. Monitor Tire Pressure:

Hot weather can cause the air inside your car’s tires to expand, leading to overinflation. Check the tire pressure regularly and ensure it matches the manufacturer’s specifications. Properly inflated tires not only improve fuel efficiency but also enhance traction and handling on the road.

3. Inspect and Clean Air Conditioning System: Summer heat demands a properly functioning air conditioning system. Have your A/C system inspected by a professional to check for leaks, ensure proper refrigerant levels, and clean or replace the cabin air filter. A clean and efficient A/C system will keep you cool and comfortable during your summer drives.

4. Protect the Exterior:

The intense sunlight and UV rays can damage your car’s paint and interior surfaces. Wash and wax your vehicle regularly to protect the paint from fading and apply a UV protectant on plastic and vinyl surfaces. Park your car in shaded areas or use a sunshade to minimize sun exposure.

5. Battery Maintenance:

High temperatures can shorten the lifespan of your car battery. Check the battery’s connections, clean any corrosion, and ensure it is securely mounted. If your battery is older or showing signs of weakness, consider having it tested or replaced to avoid the inconvenience of a breakdown.

Taking care of your car during the summer is essential to ensure its reliability, performance, and longevity. By following these maintenance tips, such as checking and maintaining fluid levels, monitoring tire pressure, inspecting the air conditioning system, protecting the exterior, and maintaining the battery, you can enjoy smooth and trouble-free journeys even in the hottest months of the year. Remember, a well-maintained car not only enhances your driving experience but also improves safety on the road.

Understanding Chronic Pain: Chronic pain is defined as persistent pain that lasts beyond the expected healing time of an injury or illness, usually persisting for three months or longer. It can stem from a wide range of causes, including musculoskeletal conditions, nerve damage, arthritis, fibromyalgia, and more. Chronic pain can significantly impact a person’s physical and emotional well-being, leading to decreased mobility, reduced activity levels, and even depression or anxiety.

The Role of PT in Managing Chronic Pain: Physical therapy aims to alleviate chronic pain by addressing its underlying causes and improving overall physical function. A skilled physical therapist works closely with patients to develop personalized treatment plans tailored to their specific needs, goals, and medical conditions. The primary goals of physical therapy for chronic pain management include pain reduction, increased function, improved mobility, and enhanced quality of life.

1. Comprehensive Evaluation and Individualized Treatment: Physical therapists begin by conducting a thorough evaluation to assess the patient’s pain patterns, range of motion, strength, posture, and functional limitations. Based on the evaluation results, they design a personalized treatment plan that may include a combination of manual therapy techniques, therapeutic exercises, modalities (such as heat or cold therapy), and patient education.

2. Pain Reduction: Physical therapy employs various techniques to reduce pain, such as therapeutic exercises, stretching, joint mobilization, soft tissue mobilization, and electrical stimulation. These interventions help reduce inflammation, relax muscles, improve blood circulation, and release endorphins, the body’s natural pain-relieving hormones.

3. Restoring Function and Mobility: Chronic pain often leads to decreased mobility and functional limitations. Physical therapy aims to restore these abilities by incorporating targeted exercises to improve strength, flexibility, balance, and coordination. By gradually increasing activity levels and teaching proper body mechanics, physical therapists empower individuals to perform daily tasks with less pain and more confidence.

4. Education and Self-Management: In addition to hands-on therapy, physical therapists educate patients about their condition, pain triggers, and strategies for self-management. They provide guidance on ergonomic principles, body mechanics, and postural corrections to prevent pain exacerbation and promote optimal function. Moreover, physical therapists may teach relaxation techniques, stress management, and coping strategies to help individuals better manage their pain on a daily basis.

5. Long-Term Support and Prevention: Physical therapy often involves ongoing support and guidance to ensure sustained pain relief and prevent future recurrences. Physical therapists empower individuals with the knowledge and tools necessary to continue exercises and self-care practices independently. They also provide strategies for incorporating physical activity into daily routines, promoting longterm pain management and improved overall health.

Chronic pain can be debilitating, but physical therapy offers a multidimensional approach to pain management and recovery. By addressing the root causes of pain, improving physical function, and empowering individuals with self-management strategies, physical therapy can significantly enhance the quality of life for those living with chronic pain.

Finding the right physical therapist can greatly impact your recovery and overall well-being. Start by asking for recommendations from your doctor or friends who have had positive experiences. Research potential therapists, paying attention to their qualifications, experience, and specialties. Consider their location, availability, and compatibility with your schedule. Take advantage of initial consultations to assess their communication style and treatment approach. Trust your instincts and choose a therapist who makes you feel comfortable, understood, and confident in their abilities.

TUR

This month’s taste tour is a gentle reminder to mind your business. So, if you see me eating three orders of “Hippie Chippie Cookies” look the other way! Hippie Chippie Cookies opened at 233 Main Street in East Greenville this month and I knew I just had to get there ASAP! These tiny cookies are served up with dipping sauces. You read that right, dippies! The cookies come with frosting and your choice of peanut butter, caramel or chocolate sauce. Did I mention they’re served warm?

I tried the traditional chocolate chip cookies and boy was I blown away! Not only did the cookies melt in your mouth with buttery goodness, but trying them with each dippie was delicious and fun! Funny story about these cookies. Immediately after trying the chocolate chip, I walked into Univest down the street to do my banking and noticed the ladies working were also eating Hippie Chippie Cookies! We all started gushing about how good they were, and they had me try the Heath Bar flavor that they had gotten earlier. I highly recommend them and can’t wait to try some of their other flavors!

If you have a sweet tooth, head on down to Hippie Chippie and get the most delicious treat in The Valley! They are sharable, but if you want to keep them for yourself, I won’t tell. Tell them Tor sent ya!
