Embrace The Curvy Side Of YOU!

Welcome to ReCurve Boutique, where today’s everyday woman shops! From chic dresses and blouses, jeans, layers and active wear, ReCurve is where you will find it all, and at a price point that is surprisingly affordable. ReCurve is a trendy upscale resale shop, catering to sizes 10 and up. Their collection caters to diverse tastes and occasions, ensuring that you’ll find the perfect ensemble for any event.

Behind all those perfectly curated racks of fashion finds, you’ll find Michelle Proffit, owner of ReCurve Boutique. Michelle recently purchased ReCurve from past owner, Ann Campbell, and has been full steam ahead ever since signing on the dotted line. “I want ReCurve to be a place where any woman, young or old, can embrace their curves and feel beautiful about themselves”, says Michelle.

Working as a teachers aid for the Quakertown Community High School for 6 years, and a stay at home mom prior, Michelle knew she wanted to break out and make a difference. “When I saw ReCurve was for sale, I knew I had to buy it”, Michelle says. You see, about a year prior to the sale, Michelle had taken her daughter, Samantha out clothes shopping for jeans. Samantha was struggling with depression and anxiety, and as a plus size teen, she felt there was no place for her to shop. Michelle brought her to ReCurve, where she found more than 10 pairs of jeans to try on as well as several different tops. Samantha says, “For the first time, I felt there was a place where I could

Michelle Proffit & Family Owner, Michelle Proffit

shop that wanted me, not just my skinny friends.” It was a magical and defining moment for both mother and daughter, but they wouldn’t know for a year exactly how powerful that moment was.

When Michelle saw the post that ReCurve was for sale but without a buyer it would close, she was heartbroken. “Our area needs a place where curvy women feel comfortable, a judgment free zone where everyone can feel the way my daughter did that day”, says Michelle. She knew she had to buy it, and after consulting with her husband, Brian, they set up a meeting. If she had any doubts, they were quickly erased when shortly after the meeting God greeted her with a double rainbow.

After the purchase was final, it quickly became a family affair, with daughter Samantha helping out when she was free. Her son Andrew and Husband Brian pitch in where needed to keep things running smoothly. As Michelle arranged clothing on the many racks, she spoke about her goals for the boutique. “I want to redefine fashion for the plus size woman. I want plus size to be posh, and I want women to love their curves. I want to be able to guide them to what works for them and what doesn’t. We have styles to fit everyone, with upscale yet affordable

options.” ReCurve Boutique is all that and more.

Hours are Tuesday 10-2, Wednesday and Thursday 10-4, Friday 10-6 and Saturday 10-4. So come down, and immerse yourself in a positive shopping experience that blends impeccable service with a carefully selected range of quality plus size clothing, all designed to re-imagine fashion at any size. You’ll be glad you did!

SEPTEMBER IS FALL PREVENTION MONTH!

DID YOU KNOW?

Balance comes from your eyes (vision), legs (strength & proprioception), and inner ear (vestibular system). All areas need to be working to be balanced. If one is declining then the other 2 systems need to work harder. If all of them are declining that’s when falls occur. Physical Therapy can help strengthen these systems and improve communication between all 3 systems, which in turn improves balance.

SCHOOL BUS SAFETY

1. Arrive Early: Encourage your child to arrive at the bus stop at least five minutes before the scheduled pickup time. This will prevent them from rushing and potentially putting themselves in danger.

2. Stand Back from the Road: Teach your child to stand at least six feet away from the curb while waiting for the bus. Remind them to be cautious of traffic and never attempt to board the bus until it has come to a complete stop.

3. Seatbelt Safety: If your child’s school bus is equipped with seat belts, ensure they understand the importance of wearing them properly. Seat belts can significantly reduce the risk of injury during sudden stops or accidents.

4. Behavior on the Bus: Emphasize the importance of good behavior on the bus. Instruct your child to remain seated throughout the journey, keep the aisles clear, and avoid distracting the driver. Rowdy behavior can lead to accidents and compromise the safety of everyone on board.

SOD INSTALLATION

With quality products and lots of experience, sod installation is one of our specialties. Starting from seed, our thick, weed-free sod is grown by professionals. We always cut within 24 hours of its installation at your location. Besides the sod itself, we supply enriched topsoil, grading work, and soil preparation to ensure your lawn is perfect. When necessary, we remove your old lawn, rocks, and weeds to start fresh.

HYDROSEEDING

This cost-effective home hydroseeding method benefits our customers in many ways. Using the top of the line equipment and products, this is a process that develops a mixture of mulch fiber, seed, fertilizer, and water in a large mixing tank. We then equally spray this mixture onto the surface. Seedlings will appear in as little as three days. Hydroseeding is a good way to control erosion. Blends and mixtures we chose carefully to provide the best foundation for your new lawn. This method of seeding is much more efficient than traditional seeding methods.

The Montgomery County 4-H Livestock club recently held it’s annual market animal sale. Each year, 4-H members gather at the Fairgrounds in Collegeville to show off the culmination of months of hard work. Cedar Hollow Farm, located in Pennsburg, was on hand with their children, showing in various classes. The kids did great with their projects, and brought home some impressive ribbons! A lot of time goes into preparing the animals for the show, from bottle feeding daily, halter breaking, grooming, and making sure the project animals are show ring ready! Congratulations to the Ventrella family on a job well done! The future of farming was well represented!

Dementia changes almost everything about the way a person perceives the world around them. It is hard enough to manage the care for a loved one with Dementia, but when your loved one exhibits difficult behavior it can quickly increase the stress level for the caregiver and their loved one with the disease.

When we are able to better manage a persons behavior, it leads to a better quality of life for everyone. This is why Family Caregivers Network has developed our new specialized Dementia/Alzheimer’s program; Memory Matters. This program aims to improve ones memory and behavior through one-on-one activities that are designed specifically for the individual.

for advertising inquiries call 215-679-5090 ccmonthly.com | 24 CCM - Because we know local matters! 215 - 541 - 9030 • www.family-caregivers.com

The Memory Matters program is available to any individual with Dementia living at home or in an assisted living that requires more one-on-one engagement.

How does the program work?

One of our RN’s will perform an in-depth clinical assessment of a person’s likes, dislikes, hobbies, mood changes, as well as memories of the past and present. Based on the findings, a specialized at-home activities plan is put in place. Our Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care Specialists will sit one on one with your loved one to carry out the activities.

What types of activities are available?

The activities can be high functioning or low functioning based a person’s level of understanding and interest. Some activities include memory cards, trivia, crafts, puzzles, music and art, and sensory activities such as aromatherapy, cooking, etc.

What are the overall benefits of MM?

By engaging a person in activities at home it has shown to improve their mental function, reduce social isolation, improve one’s mood, and decrease negative behaviors.

To receive more information about our Memory Matters At-Home Activities program contact the owner, Gerry Fioriglio RN, Certified Dementia Practitioner at 610-390-7531 or Rebecca Boyd the MM Activities Coordinator and Director of Community Services at 215-541-9030.

is your dog telling you what to do?

While I was visiting a friend the other day, I observed in horror as one of the most obnoxious behaviors a dog could offer unfolded right before my eyes. Not only was her dog Demand Barking but my friend was reinforcing it! Yep, that little bugger was barking at my friend because she wanted a cookie. Little Sophia the Yorkie knew exactly where those cookies were stashed. She parked herself right in front of the cookie jar and she was not budging until she got her cookie. The more my friend ignored her dog, the louder the little devil dog became. After a couple minutes of Sophia’s temper tantrum, my friend laughed and said “Isn’t she so cute and smart that she can tell me she wants a cookie” and then gave her the cookie.

I know we all wish our dogs could talk sometimes but be careful what you wish for. I can only imagine what my dog would say, “I love you, too; come on scratch my butt; let me out; let me in; what, that kibble again; once more around the block, James, throw the ball;, you little wimp; oops, sorry I have gas.” Most people think it is amazing that their dog knows exactly where the cookie is, plus can communicate that feeling. Then there are some folks like me who think it’s pretty rude to be barked at.

Hey, I’m not perfect; I have been known to occasionally bribe my dogs with the words “cookies” to get their attention. I regularly treat my dog with a cookie – if she asks nicely. I think it is so cute that my dog can sit nicely in front of the cookie jar, glance at me, then back to the cookie jar as if to say “please, mom.” I will ask her “would you like a cookie?” So when she sits and is quiet as if

Exploring the many benefits of CBD Celebrations!

CBD, short for cannabidiol, has gained significant attention in recent years for its potential therapeutic properties. Derived from the cannabis plant, CBD is non-intoxicating and has shown promise in addressing various health concerns.

1. Natural Pain Relief:

One of the most notable benefits of CBD is its analgesic properties. CBD interacts with the body’s endocannabinoid system, which plays a crucial role in regulating pain sensation. Research suggests that CBD can alleviate chronic pain associated with conditions such as arthritis, multiple sclerosis, and fibromyalgia. Moreover, CBD’s anti-inflammatory properties can help reduce pain and inflammation, offering a potential alternative to traditional pain medications with fewer side effects.

2. Anxiety and Stress Reduction:

CBD has shown promise in alleviating anxiety and stress-related disorders. It interacts with serotonin receptors in the brain, which are involved in regulating mood and anxiety. Studies have demonstrated that CBD can help reduce symptoms of generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder. CBD’s calming effects can promote relaxation and improve sleep quality, making it a potential natural remedy for individuals struggling with anxiety and stress.

3. Neuroprotective Properties:

CBD has garnered interest for its potential neuroprotective effects. It may help protect the brain against neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s by reducing inflammation, oxidative stress, and neurotoxicity. Additionally, CBD’s anti-seizure properties have been proven effective in treating epilepsy, particularly in children with treatment-resistant forms of the condition. Ongoing research in this area holds promise for the development of new therapeutic approaches for various neurological disorders.

4. Skincare and Acne Management:

CBD’s anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties have also made it popular in skincare products. It can help reduce acne by regulating sebum production and inhibiting inflammation. Furthermore, CBD’s moisturizing and soothing effects can improve skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis. Its antioxidant properties may also help combat free radicals and reduce signs of aging, promoting healthier and more vibrant-looking skin.

Consult with a healthcare professional before starting any CBD regimen to ensure personalized guidance and dosage recommendations.

Upper Perk Celebrates

This past month, Upper Perk held its first ever “First Friday” in East Greenville on August 4th and it was an overwhelming success all around! Main Street was bustling with community members mingling, business tending to long lines, packed storefronts, singers entertaining crowds, and great food being enjoyed!

Many businesses, big and small, got involved and it was great to see them flourish! Pennsburg Petals gave out beautiful flowers and coupons to community members. Hippie Chippie Cookies was baking up a schloo of cookie dippers for the long lines in front of their shop. Doughlicious welcomed patrons in their front door, showing off what new items they have been providing to the community since opening last month. Chibi Cafe provided a relaxing environment to those looking to sit for a few moments and enjoy a game and a sweet treat. Java and Friends was cooking up sandwiches and serving amazing coffee drinks and other refreshments.

Abella Specialties was grilling up hot dogs for their customers, truly a fun night for all who attended!

First Friday successfully stirred up a connection between the community and the businesses that it serves. It was great to see Main Street full and celebrated!

Third & Bank street were closed to traffic, and set up with vendors representing their wares. The weather was mild, and with so much to see and do, it really was the perfect night out. Families mingled, children laughed, and friends connected with each other as they strolled down Main street. Traffic police were on hand to cross pedestrians safely, and all went smoothly.

Celebrates First Fridays!

Beautiful cutting boards were offered up for sale by one local craftsman. Cedar Hollow Farm was on hand selling fresh produce and local apple cider. Wolf Fitness, a new business in The Valley, greeted customers at their tent. If you missed all the fun, don’t fret, the next one will be held September 1st. So come out and enjoy a truly magical night!

All First Fridays will be held on the first Friday of the month from 5:30pm to 8pm between Bank Street and Third Street in East Greenville. If you’d like to participate as a business you can visit the Upper Perkiomen Chamber of Commerce website at web.upvchamber.org or follow them on Facebook for updates.

NAZI SABOTEURS AT HORSESHOE CURVE DURING WWII

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 13 AT 6PM

UPPER PERKIOMEN VALLEY LIBRARY

In June of 1942 four highly trained Nazi saboteurs entered the U.S. to target the Pennsylvania Railroad in Altoona, Pennsylvania. This rail line was an important part of the war effort, being the most important rail connection between the Midwest and the east coast’s shipping ports. Disruption to the rail line would have hindered the ability to move troops, war material and natural resources which supported the war effort. Hear Kenneth Serfass, as a PRR trainman give an account of this event. Call 215-679-2020 to reserve a seat.

Have you ever noticed that a bowl of cereal tastes better when you eat it on the couch? Or when you pop the cork on a bottle of wine, it’s more enjoyable in front of a lake at sunset? Well this is how I feel about my morning coffee. Sure, sometimes it saves my day when I’m swigging it back in rush hour traffic but that’s not when it tastes best. Let’s be real, it tastes best when the ambiance is relaxing and cozy. It’s ALL about the ambiance!

To put this theory to the test I headed over to SpeakEasy coffee to check out their newly expanded cafe! You heard that right! A new cozy space in town! The coffee shop just unveiled their new huge seating space full of moody jewel tones, eclectic furniture, plants and trendy decor! If there’s anything your girl loves, it’s working in a cozy coffee shop and trust me not all coffee shop spaces are cozy! I ordered an iced latte with blueberry cold foam and it was oh so delicious paired with a comfy couch and exposed brick walls. The perfect pairing. The vibes were immaculate.
