At Orthodontic Specialists Indian Valley, Dr. Justin Silvestre and his team care about their patients and their community. They get to know each patient on a personal level to ensure the best orthodontic care possible. As a local business, giving back to their community is how they use their dental platform for good. At Orthodontic Specialists, a patients overall health and boosting their self-confidence is top priority. The team cares about a patients social and mental health. Patients are seen as unique individuals and are treated accordingly. Overall

community health is at the heart of this practice. The office hosts an annual “Give Back Night” combined with a “Family Fun Night” to show appreciation for their patients as well as give back to their community. In conjunction with the Keystone Opportunity Center, Dr. Silvestre’s staff and patients happily put together kid friendly food bags, that will be distributed to children during the summer months. These children often rely on a school lunch as a main meal for their day. During summer break, they miss out on that food source. The good vibes of giving have even inspired his patients to pay it forward with good deeds.

A local sixth grader patient of Dr. Silvestre wanted to put together daily care bags for the elderly living in the area. She approached him with this idea. He reached out to the community and helped her thought of kindness become a reality. Many people helped, including local Girl Scout troops. Many hands made light work on that day of community giving. To Dr. Silvestre it was “rewarding and inspiring” to take part in this endeavor.

Dr. Silvestre offers advanced care and technology, but the foundation of his practice and life, is serving his community. Making a positive impact in the lives of local residents and patients is what really matters. Dr. Silvestre believes we can “control our local microcosm and practice gratitude” to make this world a better place one community at a time. A home is a place for people to gather and unwind. Kelly truly enjoys helping people design their future space. She provides individualized attention throughout the entire design process. She gets as personal as she can; enveloping herself in how people use their space and what needs have to be met. Fatherâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Day By Jennifer Frieze

On July 5, 1908, a church in West Virginia held the nation's first event solely for fathers. It was a Sunday sermon in memory of 362 men who perished in a mine explosion at the Fairmont Coal Company mines in December of 1907. It was a one-time commemoration and not an annual event. In 1909, in Spokane Washington, Sonora Smart Dodd pressed to establish an official holiday for fathers. She petitioned government, churches, business owners, and the YMCA. Her persistence paid off and on June 19, 1910, Washington State celebrated the nation's first statewide celebration for male parents.

In other countries- particularly in Europe and Latin Americafathers are honored on St. Joseph's Day, a Catholic holiday that falls on March 19.

Over time, the popularity of the holiday spread. In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson honored the day by having a flag unfurl in Spokane. He gave the command from his office in Washington, D.C. In 1924, Calvin Coolidge encouraged state governments to officially celebrate Father's Day.

At the start of WWII, advertisers argued Father's Day was a way to honor American troops and support the war effort. In 1972, during a tough re-election campaign, Richard Nixon signed a proclamation establishing Father's Day as a federal holiday.

Today, in the United States, male parents are celebrated the third Sunday in June.

There has been controversy and commercialism mixed with this special day. The Great Depression set in motion the commercialization of Father's Day. Struggling retailers marketed Father's Day as a "second Christmas" for men. Businesses promoted men's wear, ties, hats, pipes, tobacco, sporting good, and greeting cards.

Today, economists estimate that more $1 billion is spent on Father's Day gifts annually in the U.S.

Join us for a golf lesson at the Indian Valley Country Club prior to the Swing for Hope Golf Outing. Golf lesson will be taught by PGA Professional Instruction from IVCC Head Golf Professional Thomas Link. After the golf lesson, enjoy a buffet luncheon and network with golfers and volunteers.

You will learn: • Fun interactive Instruction for beginners to advanced players. • Hands on instruction covering Full Swing, Short Game, and Practice Drills. • Golf Clubs provided for anyone who needs equipment • Each participant takes home an information packet reviewing lessons learned
