Composers and musicians from across Latin America have played key roles in shaping the music of film and television made in Los Angeles. This is a special tribute to the Southern California sojourns of artists such as Juan García Esquivel, Lalo Schifrin, Maria Grever, and Johnny Richards, all of whom found their way into legendary Hollywood recording studios and onto screens large and small. Joining the dots are Camilo Lara (Mexican Institute of Sound) and guest vocalists Omar and Nina Miranda, as well as Hackney Colliery Band Horns for an electronic reimagining of the Golden Age of Latin American composers in Hollywood.

JORGE DREXLER MONDAY 30 APRIL 7.30PM CADOGAN HALL 5 SLOANE TERRACE SW1X 9DQ £20 - £35

Not seen in London since 2016, Drexler returns with his latest project, debuting songs from his new album Salvavidas de Hielo, full of rhythm, experimentation, melodies and, above all, great songs. A Uruguayan troubadour with bags of charisma, Drexler is a warm and engaging storyteller, with a magical rapport with his audience. He has the voice of a tenor but the warmth of a baritone, and while Latin rhythms predominate in his wide-ranging musical pursuits, he’s also partial to a rock beat or a country waltz if the opportunity arises. He references Gabriel García Márquez in Despedir a los glaciares, a sad farewell to our planet’s glaciers; addresses how the idea of migration is a connective tissue we share as humans on Movimiento; and the ephemeral nature of life in Salvavidas de Hielo. His profoundly literate lyrics are supported by the clever acoustic samba that made his name. Jorge Drexler Guitar, vocals Borga Barrueca Drums Martin Leiton Bass Javi Calequi Guitar Carles Campi Percussion
