With Purpose Consulting in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. Corliss is a speaker, author, leadership coach, entrepreneur, and the founder of With Purpose Consulting. Through her speaking

Comes Motivation engagements, conferences, courses, and workshops, Corliss helps people connect with their purpose and create actionable plans to move them towards achieving their goals. Since March of 2017, she has helped hundreds of people across the province become leaders in their own lives and plans to reach many more with the upcoming release of her first book, live events, and online master class.

searching internally for answers, she decided to make a new vision board, a practice that has served her well before. “I was constantly asking myself, how can I make a difference because that’s a big one for me. I want to help people, and I really want to leave a legacy. I knew I wanted a life of value, and for me, the way to create value in the world is by contributing to others. . .”

Corliss was raised with seven siblings on the family farm where she was taught to value hard work, family, and faith. Corliss admits that as a child, the dreams she had for herself did not reach far beyond getting married and having a family. Corliss learned of her natural entrepreneurial skills when she joined a direct sales company on a whim and quickly excelled. She advanced through the ranks of leadership achieving the highest position in the company, hundreds of awards for sales and sponsoring success and for coaching and training others to reach their personal goals. She is celebrating twenty-five years with the company this month and credits the experience with them for much of her success. “. . .it’s really moulded and shaped me into who I am as an entrepreneur because it taught me all of the skills that go along with being self-employed. . .It was really a crash course in personal development and helped me learn skills I likely couldn’t have learned in a traditional job setting.”

While Corliss searched through magazines to create her vision board, she spotted a small advertisement and had an ah-ha moment. She decided that now was her time to try new things that she had never had the opportunity to before and by saying yes to new things, she found clarity and direction. With excitement, Corliss shared her new vision board with girlfriends and soon after others were asking her to help them create theirs as well. “I did a few vision board workshops and I noticed something consistent: people were just like me! They were living by default, going through the motions, stuck in routine, and missing a sense of purpose. That’s when I decided there’s more I can do to help people. It turns out I found my purpose to help people connect to theirs.”

Life has not been without challenges. After surviving a difficult divorce, Corliss found strength in restarting her life. She had mastered her direct sales business and with her children older and more independent, she found herself with an opportunity to reexamine her life and start a new phase based on what was most important to her. Corliss shares, “I am grateful for everything that my company was providing me with, [but] it was the only thing I’d done for 25 years and I just really wanted to experience something more. For me, it came back to connecting with what am I passionate about, what is it that I love to do, [and] what skills I have that I feel like I could transfer to other people.” Corliss notes that this was not an overnight process. She had been living on autopilot for years and it had been a very long time since she considered what she really wanted. While

Discovering one’s purpose can be an overwhelming concept for most people, but Corliss has a knack for making it accessible and possible for everyone. “. . .I believe that our purpose evolves as we do. The purpose that I had when I was a young mom, trying to take care of my children is very different than somebody who has now reached the middle stage of my life and wants to make a contribution outside of my own home and community.” Corliss encourages people to define who they want to be in the world. This encompasses their relationships at home and extends into their community and beyond. As an example, someone could choose love, laughter, and acceptance as their keywords. They can use these words to guide them each day by choosing to have love, laughter and acceptance everywhere they are. This simple principle can guide them in living a life of purpose as they have defined themselves to be these things. How they live that definition is purpose in action. Her eagerness to teach people how their purpose can change their lives shines through as Corliss continues, “With purpose comes motivation. When you connect to purpose, you will immediately have motivation. You get this fire burning in you, and you just want to go out and do stuff.” Corliss was not always this confident when it came to sharing her knowledge with others. She admits that she sometimes wondered if she needed a degree or a more formal education to make people interested in what she had to say. Corliss began educating herself by attending seminars and mastermind groups with well-known speakers and authors like Tony Robbins and Jack Canfield. “I started to recognize that I have enough life experiences that I [can] bring value to other people,” she adds. “It was honestly a choice. . .I just chose to believe I have something to contribute and decided I’m not going to allow the fear of what other people are going to say hold me back from that.” Corliss also recognized that inner confidence was necessary for her to fulfill her purpose of helping others. “I’m here to serve people, and I have to be confident in who I am and what I have to contribute in order to be able to do that.” FOR SASKATCHEWAN WOMEN | VOL. 7 ISSUE 10, SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER 2018 | 7

Corliss’ perspective on her past traumas and struggles is truly an inspiring one. She openly shares how dwelling on her past kept her stuck until she was able to shift her mindset and see things differently. She appreciates that both the good and bad experiences in her life have made her who she is today. “. . .instead of looking and being afraid of what’s coming next, I now come from a place of full-on gratitude. I’m so grateful for every life experience that I’ve had and that I will have because it’s going to help me grow to the next level of myself. So instead of having fear, I’m replacing it with faith and gratitude.” Corliss’ giving spirit and eagerness to help is evident in the way she speaks. Perhaps without knowing it, she imparts wisdom and light in everyday conversation. It is clear that she has a genuine desire to be of service and hold space for others. Corliss advises, “Whenever you’re worried and stressed about something it’s because you’re trying to control your outcome . . .The reason you’re trying to control it is because you’re afraid. So if you can replace that fear with faith that you [have] handle[d] everything that’s come your way, and you’ll handle everything that’s about to come your way, you’ll find more peace in your day to day life. Try to relax and enjoy the journey and embrace all the experiences to either celebrate them or learn from them. If you can look at it like that a lot of your anxiety and stress about life is going to subside.” One look through the reviews on her Facebook page and the feedback on her website and it is obvious how big of an impact Corliss has had on people’s lives. Her generosity shines through their glowing reviews and thank-you notes. Corliss’ message is universal, and participants in her conferences and classes have experienced personal and professional growth and are leading more fulfilled lives. Despite all the praise, Corliss still becomes emotional when talking about the success of the participants she’s worked with

and her mission to continue to help as many people as possible learn to lead their lives. “I just really want to acknowledge the fact that this all wouldn’t be happening without a following and people believing in me and the offerings,” she emphasizes. She is also quick to commend the two women who are now part of her team. “They are what I call the ‘dream team’ and came to support me with such enthusiasm. They are the reason With Purpose is growing so quickly, and I am so grateful to be surrounded by such professional and encouraging women!” After the success of her first vision board workshops, Corliss felt that she could do more to help people overcome obstacles and bring their visions to life. She set to work designing a custom four week Lead Your Life Masterclass which she has facilitated five times now, meeting with a group of participants once a week during the program. She provides practical tools to help them overcome

FOR SASKATCHEWAN WOMEN | VOL. 7 ISSUE 10, SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER 2018

limiting beliefs and move towards their goals. The connections and support networks that form in these group classes are one of Corliss’ favourite things to watch. “It is crazy what happens because I end up just facilitating the topic of the week and they end up supporting each other. It’s amazing. The group setting is just remarkable, and that’s the feedback that I get over and over and over. . .I’ve had 42 people through the classes now, and every single one of them tells me the same thing. . .They love being part of a network of likeminded, positive people who want to live fully and become the best version of themselves. We’re starting a whole movement here. It’s beautiful.” Corliss became determined to make the Lead Your Life Masterclass accessible to all but knew that she could not tour all over Canada facilitating four-week courses. After much research and development, Corliss has created a digital version of the masterclass, and she is confident participants will get the same benefits they would if they were doing the classes together in person. In addition to the launch of her digital masterclass, Corliss has written her first book under the guidance of world-renowned author and speaker, Jack Canfield. With an official launch date of Friday, November 9, her book, entitled Lead Your Life With Purpose, Passion, and Confidence, will help readers discover their purpose by defining who they want to be. It will help them understand how living their purpose will inspire passion and confidence to improve every aspect of their lives.

With purpose comes motivation. When you connect to purpose, you will immediately have motivation. You get this fire burning in you, and you just want to go out and do stuff.

Corliss is always eager to take on guest speaking engagements. She exudes a relatable, open, and genuine energy when she’s speaking that naturally holds the attention of the room and leaves everyone feeling uplifted and inspired. On Saturday, November 10, Corliss will be hosting a Lead Your Life Conference in Saskatoon at the Saskatoon Golf and Country Club. Details regarding this event, how to book Corliss as a guest speaker, and the release of her book can be found on her website at www.corliss.ca. SOLO HIKING THE WASCANA TRAILS

There are several reasons I hike solo. Sometimes it’s to be by myself in nature. Sometimes no one else is free to hike with me. Sometimes it’s to challenge myself without having to depend on anyone else. A perfect place to get comfortable with heading out on the trail solo is the Wascana Valley Nature Recreation Site, only 10 kilometres northwest of Regina. I had heard a lot about the Wascana Trails – they’re perfect in nearly any season. Spring, summer and fall are ideal for hiking, bird watching and mountain biking (it was the location of the Canada Games in 2005). In winter, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, downhill tobogganing and fatbiking are quite popular.

There are 15 kilometres of trails in the area and three loops to explore: the novice Creekside Loop, the intermediate Screaming Mosquito and the advanced Disc-O-Tech. I planned to hop trail to trail where they intersected and make up my own route through the Qu’Appelle Valley.

The most challenging sections of the trails are descending and ascending to and from the valley rim. The bottom flattens out for easy hiking alongside the creek (some of the trails are even accessible to strollers).

herself - and so much more.

It was on one of those hot and sunny autumn days that I finally convinced myself to pull off the highway on my way back to Saskatoon and go find this popular hiking area. Thankfully, I always carry a variety of gear in my car (you never know when an adventure will pop up!) so I was prepared with runners, comfortable clothes, a backpack, snacks and lots of water.

From the top I eyed a few areas I wanted to hike through, particularly crossing the green bridge over Wascana Creek and hiking into the trees along the southwest side. Planning my route from the map and what I could see of the trails from the top, I headed down into the valley. Although I was hiking solo, I wasn’t actually alone (as is often the case). There were several other people enjoying the trails with me – both on foot and on bikes. I had timed my hike perfectly with the reddish glow of golden hour. The light splashed throughout the valley, illuminating the oranges, reds and yellows of autumn leaves on the trees. I took my time while walking – setting up my tripod to snap a few photos. For me, hiking is relaxing. Being around nature recharges me. The best moments are when I get to sit and enjoy the sunlight and beautiful views.
