WELCOME TO STONELEIGH WELCOME to the world’s largest kit car show. This is the original kit car show, not only the longest established, the busiest and the best, but also the world’s largest. And it’s all happening here in the UK – that’s something we can all be proud of. This is the other side of the UK motor industry and Stoneleigh is the kit car scene’s showcase event. Here you’ll find nearly every serious kit car manufacturer and we’re expecting lots of new launches. While details are always sketchy, why not check out the MEV, Raw Striker, DNA, Veranti and Great British Sports Cars stands, to name just a few? We’re getting rumours of interesting new launches from all of these companies. And don’t miss the hundreds of accessory stands, both outside and inside, that sell everything the car builder could want. Whether it’s a nut and bolt or a complete performance engine, you’re bound to be able to find it here. Westfield Sports Cars will be putting on an amazing slalom experience in a dedicated area just off Avenue M. For just £10, you can even book yourself a place in the passenger seat, as the company’s hugely experienced test driver puts the car through its paces. For rather muddier action, Dakar will be in full swing on the 4-wheel-drive circuit. Of course, outside is dominated by the clubs, and it’s this extraordinary spectacle that gives Stoneleigh its special atmosphere. If there was a kit made, then there will almost certainly be a club to support it and, with over 80 clubs having booked stands at Stoneleigh, the chances are you’ll find it here. With over 4000 cars expected, it’s going to be a bumper display. If you don’t fancy building your own from scratch, then take a walk over to the Cars For Sale hall (at the bottom of 6th Street near Gate 5) and you’ll find a diverse array of much loved cars up for sale. And for those of you who make
Nearly every serious kit car manufacturer has a display at Stoneleigh. Stoneleigh a weekend experience, the bars and restaurant will be open on both evenings. On Sunday evening there is also entertainment in the Warwick Hall, off 6th Street - just follow the noise! So there you have it. Stoneleigh is a kit car phenomenon. It takes an enormous amount of organisation, but it always rewards us with a huge sense of satisfaction and pride. Enjoy the show. Clubs form a vital part of the Stoneleigh experience.

Westfield and GTM JOINED UP THINKING
C
omplete Kit Car looks at the big changes happening at two of the UK’s most respected kit car manufacturers, and what they’ll be up to at Stoneleigh. One of the big announcements of late 2006 was the purchase of kit car giant, Westfield Sports Cars by Potenza Sports Cars. It soon became apparent that, while none of us had heard of Potenza before, this is an operation with serious credentials, with both big and small business experience, an impressive technical pool of knowledge and, most significantly, a fresh and focused plan for the future. And it was also apparent from our first interview with Managing Director, Julian Turner, that we could expect further developments, beyond the immediate future of Westfield. In December 2007, those plans were made abundantly clear. Potenza had just bought another British kit car icon, GTM Sports Cars.

Potenza Sports Cars has therefore become the umbrella company under which two of our most respected kit car names can hopefully thrive and grow. With both companies now operating out of the impressive Westfield facility in Kingswinford, West Midlands, there are obvious advantages in terms of utilizing material, human and financial resources. Potenza chairman, Frank Turner summed up the
company’s serious intent when he announced at the time, “This latest move is a further step along the way in establishing a portfolio of respected niche British sports car brands, dedicated to producing high performance eco friendly vehicles.” Potenza Sports Cars may not have been a name many of us were familiar with 18 months ago, but we fully expect to hear more from it in the future.
WHAT TO SEE AT THE SHOW Stoneleigh will be the first opportunity to see how well these two companies sit together and we’re not expecting any problems. Individually, both companies have always striven for high production values and produced quality products, so we’re looking forward to seeing these two highly individual cars working as one on Potenza’s main stand in Hall 1. Of course, outside you’ll also be able to see the Westfield Slalom Experience, where the company’s experienced test driver will show the car’s amazing sideways agility around the specially designed test track. More importantly, if you fancy seeing what it feels like from the passenger seat, then £10 will see you strapped in and ready for action. You’ll find its location clearly marked on the site plan on page 30. Finally, don’t forget to check out both the Westfield and GTM Owners’ clubs stands at the show. Both marques are always extremely well supported by their respective owners, with fabulous displays of privately built machinery out in the club area (once again, see the site plan for their locations).
