In its March issue and in an article entitled “Understanding Chile’s Wine Regions”, the renowned American magazine Wine Enthusiast distinguished Maipo Valley as the origin of the most recognized Cabernet Sauvignon from Chile and Don Melchor as one of the wines that embodies the maximum virtues of this generous terroir. In the text, the magazine’s editor Michael Schachner specifically noted the Alto Maipo (or Maipo Andes) as “the king when it comes to producing world-class wines, and Cabernet Sauvignon in particular”. Don Melchor’s oenologist Enrique Tirado talked with Schachner about the fundamental role of Maipo Valley in the Chilean wine industry: “Maipo is the region that has allowed us to produce Cabernet Sauvignon of high quality and global prestige. Don Melchor is the pure reflection of the Puente Alto vineyard, whose location, near the Andes, provides unique soils and a perfect climate for the vines”.

The Winery and Its Subsidiaries Distinguished

Among the Most Admired by Drinks International FOR THIRD CONSECUTIVE YEAR, CONCHA Y TORO KEPT ITS PLACE AS THE MOST ADMIRED WINE BRAND IN THE WORLD, WHILE BRANDS SUCH AS FETZER AND CONO SUR WERE AWARDED INDEPENDENTLY.

Beating prestigious brands such as Torres, Penfolds, Cloudy Bay, Château Margaux, Château Mouton-Rothschild, Vega Sicilia and Kendall Jackson, among others, Concha y Toro won the

most nominations as the most admired wine brand

in an anonymous voting where experts from the wine industry participated with a broad representation.

This year, for the first time, the subsidiary Cono Sur Winery

entered the ranking independently –in 18th place– and Fetzer Vineyards, the Californian vineyard acquired by the group in 2011, was ranked in 36th place. The jury of experts was asked to vote on the six most admired wine brands –with which they have no association– on the basis of criteria such as: the wines should be of consistent and growing quality, should reflect their region or country of origin, and respond to the needs and tastes of their target audience, among others. “That today Concha y Toro is recognized globally as the most admired wine brand is mainly due to the quality we have achieved in our wines and having attained a leading position in key markets. This commits us to continue moving in this direction, which seeks to strengthen our position in the premium segment and higher-value categories”, said Alfonso Larraín, president of the winery.

AT VINEXPO, BORDEAUX:

Don Melchor reveals its history

UNDER THE DIRECTION OF WINEMAKER ENRIQUE TIRADO AND RENOWNED FRENCH ADVISOR ERIC BOISSENOT, THE WINERY CARRIED OUT THE FIRST MASTER CLASS ON ITS ICONIC CABERNET. OVER 80 PEOPLE ATTENDED THE TASTING OF SIX VINTAGES OF DON MELCHOR.

At the 2013 version of Vinexpo, the most important international wine fair, which took place between the 16th and 20th of June in Bordeaux, France, and within the context of its 130th anniversary,

Concha y Toro carried out an exclusive tasting of six vintages of Don Melchor, representative of the three-decade history of this icon.

Eric Boissenot, Don Melchor French advisor.

The Master Class “Don Melchor: Three decades revealing the beauty of the terroir of Puente Alto” was led by oenologist Enrique Tirado, renowned French advisor Eric Boissenot, who has participated in the development of Don Melchor from its first vintage in 1987, and Isabel Guilisasti, Marketing Director Origin Wines. The seminar was held on June 18 and was attended by over 80 people, among them international specialized media, important clients, distributors and sommeliers from all over the world. During the event three decades of Don Melchor were presented through a tasting of six of its vintages: 1988, 1993, 1999, 2001, 2005 and 2007. Thus, the attendees were able to savor the history of this Cabernet Sauvignon and its consistent evolution from its beginnings.

Enrique Tirado, Don Melchor’s winemaker.

“I’m part of Don Melchor’s winemaking team since 1992, and since then I have had the privilege of working with Eric in the making of this iconic Cabernet Sauvignon, an example that expresses the identity of the terroir of Puente Alto. The numerous and renowned vintages of this wine are proof of its strong consistency over time”, said Enrique Tirado during the Master Class.

“The potential of the terroir of Puente Alto was confirmed since the beginning of this wine. When I tried the samples of this vineyard of Maipo Valley, I knew immediately that Puente Alto had the virtues necessary to shape an international quality wine, and with clear reminiscences to well structured red wines from the Bordeaux region”, said Eric Boissenot. In addition to holding numerous meetings with customers from around the world and offering tastings from all the portfolio of premium and superior lines, the company conducted a tasting of Marques de Casa Concha in its booth for 36 sommeliers from Norway, which was led by Marcelo Papa, and in which they tasted the Syrah and Chardonnay of this super premium line. THE WINES OF THIS

2013 HARVEST

THE EMERGENCE OF SPRING RAINS AND A COLDER JANUARY ALONG MOST OF CHILE’S WINE-GROWING AREA FAVORED A SLOWER RIPENING OF THE GRAPES IN THE VALLEY, RESULTING IN FRUIT OF GOOD MATURITY AND CONCENTRATION, AND FRESHER AND MORE ELEGANT WINES.

Concha y Toro has vineyards from Limarí Valley, in northern Chile, to Maule Valley in the south. Throughout this growing zone of over a thousand kilometers there are specific distinctive features, but there are certain phenomena that have been widely observed during the 2012 and 2013 season. Spring rains, more coolness during the harvest season and a slower ripening of the grapes resulted in more balanced berries between acidity and potential alcohol, with intense color and concentrated flavor, less sugar and, therefore, a lower alcohol content. Thus, throughout the country the 2013 harvest resulted in fresher white wines, rich in acidity, and balanced, fresh red wines with elegant tannins.

7

In Limarí Valley weather conditions caused a slower germination than other years, favoring a later maturity and a delay of two weeks in the harvest. “Overall, the berries were smaller than last year and the clusters lighter, but there was more concentration and freshness”, said Marcelo Papa, winemaker of Marques de Casa Concha. In the valleys of Casablanca and Leyda –two of the most coastal and cold valleys of Chile– a cooler and cloudier summer intensified the work in the vineyard in order to prevent diseases and sanitary problems. The winemaker of Terrunyo and Amelia Ignacio Recabarren said: “With the low temperatures the Sauvignon Blanc behaved very well, and so did the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir”. Colder afternoons and the more pronounced temperature differences during the day and night in summer helped achieving adequate maturity and the development of fruit flavors in the wines of Maipo Valley. Enrique Tirado, oenologist of Don Melchor and Gravas del Maipo particularly liked how fresh the season was.

Maule Valley is a very diverse one. From the Andes to the Pacific Ocean there are different soil and climatic conditions. The Villa Alegre estate is a reflection of this diversity. “It has a variety of reliefs and exposures, showing a mix of warmer and colder sectors that result in important differences in the character of the wines, even within the same variety”, explains Hector Urzúa, winemaker of Gran Reserva Serie Riberas. Being this a cooler year than normal, the oenologist comments that they have been very much in line with what they’re looking for the Syrah Gran Reserva Serie Riberas, whose fruit is obtained from Villa Alegre. “The fruity expression, freshness, acidity and sweetness of the wines that have resulted from this harvest goes very hand in hand with this slow ripening. I think we are facing a very good year”, he points out.

DON MELCHOR

A world-class Cabernet Sauvignon WITH 23 VINTAGES ALREADY IN ITS RICH HISTORY, DON MELCHOR HAS ESTABLISHED ITSELF AS A WORLD-CLASS WINE.

Recently presenting its 2009 vintage, the 23rd of its collection, and having been awarded important accolades for each of its vintages, the iconic Chilean Cabernet shows its undisputed quality consistency. Also, Don Melchor is notable

for its genuineness, finesse and complexity, distinctive

characteristics of the Puente Alto vineyard in the Maipo Valley. This vineyard stands out for its microclimate and stony soil, producing grapes of great concentration and expressiveness that along with a

meticulous oenological work result in this exceptional wine. In recent months, Don Melchor has again demonstrated its undeniable oenological consistency, with distinctions and events that reveal the deep admiration that this wine awakens among its consumers worldwide.

Traveling through the U.S with outstanding vintages As part of the launch of the 2009 vintage of Don Melchor in the U.S., oenologist Enrique Tirado led a series of tastings in the cities of New York, Miami and Palm Beach between April 2 and 4. Prominent members of specialized media and the trade attended the tasting and, besides the 2009 vintage, were able to taste the 1995, 2001 and 2005 vintages of Concha y Toro’s iconic Cabernet Sauvignon.

Attendees praised the finesse and elegance of the wine, along with its great potential and structure. The unique vertical tasting allowed them to appreciate the history and

consistency of Don Melchor, in addition to its longevity and depth. For many it was a revelation that a wine of this elegance came from the New World and not the Old World. According to Enrique Tirado, the 2009 vintage is extraordinary. “It shows a good expression of fresh fruit, nice acidity and really good tannins that help it unfold on the palate. On the mouth is deep, dense, elegant and with good maturity. The wine has a really optimal balance between its expressive fruit and ripe tannins, showing Puente Alto’s great character”.

A WINE THAT STIRS PASSIONS

REPRESENTATIVES OF THE BROTHERHOOD OF DON MELCHOR IN BRAZIL HAVE TRAVELED ABOUT THREE THOUSAND KILOMETERS DRIVEN SOLELY BY THE PASSION THAT CONCHA Y TORO’S ICONIC WINE AWAKENS.

(From left to right): Jose Grimberg, President of the Brotherhood of Rio de Janeiro; and Sergio Souza, member of the brotherhood of Rio de Janeiro.

Sidnei Brandao, President of the Brotherhood of Sao Paulo.

The passion for Don Melchor, and for the dedicated oenological and winemaking work behind this flagship wine, has led members of the brotherhood of Don Melchor in Brazil to be encouraged to travel twice to Chile for the sole purpose of taking a closer look at the details behind this wine. Between May 2nd and 3rd, a group of 13 members of the brotherhood from Porto Alegre visited the vineyard to participate in a series of activities planned especially for them: A tasting of the seven parcels of the Puente Alto vineyard, a tour around the vineyard in Pirque, wine-pairing lunches, and even harvesting work in that vineyard; all this in the company of Don Melchor’s winemaker Enrique Tirado. “It was an honor for us to harvest the grapes for this iconic Cabernet and have the privilege of getting to know the careful treatment given to this wine in the vineyard”, said Rogerio Concli, President of the Brotherhood of Porto Alegre.

This visit adds to the one in October last year, when 31 representatives of the brotherhoods of Don Melchor from Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo and Porto Alegre came to Chile and were part of an unforgettable experience around this iconic wine. In addition to the abovementioned activities, and instead of harvesting, visitors had to dig their hands into the soil and plant a vine in the vineyard in Puente Alto. “This was a very nice experience and we will cherish it in our memory”, said Homero Sodre, a member of the brotherhood of Rio de Janeiro. Both visits prove the power of Don Melchor to call and attract consumers to the world of a World Class wine, allowing them to fulfill their dream of visiting Chile and knowing the details behind the scenes of this iconic Cabernet Sauvignon.

CARMÍN

DE PEUMO

The World’s Best Carmenere THE ICONIC CARMENERE OF CONCHA Y TORO HAS BEEN RECOGNIZED IN ALL ITS VINTAGES AS THE BEST CHILEAN CARMENERE BY WINE & SPIRITS MAGAZINE AND THE CHILEAN GUIDE DESCORCHADOS. THIS DISTINCTION ALLOWS IT TO ESTABLISH ITSELF AS THE BEST CARMENERE IN CHILE AND THE WORLD.

Ignacio Recabarren, oenologist of Carmín de Peumo.

The 2010 vintage of Carmín de Peumo was elected the Best Carmenere of Chile and one of the 100 Best Wines of the Year in the February issue of the American magazine Wine & Spirits. This is the fifth time this iconic Carmenere made by winemaker Ignacio Recabarren receives this distinction, which it has been awarded for all its vintages: 2003, 2005, 2007 and 2008.

Since its launch, Carmín de Peumo has obtained the highest honors. Along with Wine & Spirits, the Descorchados wine guide of renowned journalist Patricio Tapia has also chosen it in all its vintages –2003, 2005, 2007, 2008 and 2010– as the Best Chilean Carmenere, confirming the quality and oenological consistency of the country’s first iconic Carmenere.

Previously, in the autumn edition of the prestigious magazine, Carmín de Peumo 2008 was selected as one of the Top 100 Wines of Terroir of the World in a ranking conducted for the first time and in which this wine was the only Carmenere included in the list.

This puts Carmín de Peumo in a place of honor in the wine industry, establishing the Carmenere variety and turning Carmín into one of the world’s top wines.

“I recommend Carmín because it is a wine that combines complexity, elegance and power, which nobody imagined ever before that could happen with a Carmenere. Concha y Toro has the ability to produce a Carmenere of this stature, and I don’t see that any other winery has it”. “Carmín de Peumo was born on solid ground, we had traveled a long way with Terrunyo Carmenere and 2003 was an extraordinary year for this vine in the vineyard. What remains now is for Carmín to consolidate itself, not so much in terms of scores –as it has already achieved historical scores–, which of course must be maintained, but in achieving consistency over time with numerous renowned vintages”, says Ignacio Recabarren.

Marques de Casa Concha

CHARDONNAY 2011 A top quality Chilean White In its March issue, Wine Spectator magazine awarded 90 points to Marques de Casa Concha Chardonnay 2011, becoming the best ranked Chilean Chardonnay to date from this vintage. It was also elected as one of the “Daily Wine Picks”, the day’s featured wines, selected by the editors of this publication.

The previous vintage, Marques de Casa Concha Chardonnay 2010, was a milestone:

It was the first Chilean Chardonnay included in the influential ranking of the Top 100 Wines of the Year 2012 by Wine Spectator.

The magazine has steadily recognized Marques de Casa Concha Chardonnay –a wine from the Limarí Valley and developed by oenologist Marcelo Papa– as one of the best Chilean Chardonnay, and it has obtained over 90 points in ten vintages, which confirms it as one of the most consistent and solid brands in its segment worldwide.

Opinion leaders of Mexico

get to know our wines

Between April 22 and 25, print media and TV, editors and directors from Mexico came to Chile and visited several locations of Concha y Toro, with the sole purpose of getting to know Chilean wine. An influential group of opinion leaders visited Concha y Toro’s estate house, vineyards and cellars in Pirque – among which is the world famous cellar of Casillero del Diablo–, to have a total experience around wine. After the tour through the facilities, the guests met with Don Melchor’s winemaker Enrique Tirado, who told them a little more about the virtues that surround the Puente Alto vineyard, where this iconic Cabernet Sauvignon is produced, which imprint unique and distinctive characteristics into it.

15

Another surprise prepared for this group of influtial people was a visit to the Puente Alto vineyard, where they were part of the harvest of this iconic wine with their own hands. After listening to Enrique, visitors participated in the tasting of the seven parcels of the Puente Alto vineyard, in order to develop the “final mix of Don Melchor 2012”. Ricardo García, editor of Esquire magazine, of Editorial Televisa, said that “the tasting was very interesting because taking you to make a wine is to participate a little of the difficult decision of how to give a wine a face, with scent and taste; is to get closer to the decisions made by oenologists”.

Patricia Eversbusch, host of TV channel Grupo Imagen, said: “We have had a wonderful day here in Concha y Toro. We had the opportunity to get to know part of the process of developing an iconic wine such as Don Melchor, and we also learned about the harvest of the grape directly in the vineyard”.

Asian wine experts visit Concha y Toro BETWEEN JANUARY 3RD AND 15TH, AND IN THE CONTEXT OF THE TENTH VERSION OF THE ANNUAL WINES OF CHILE AWARDS, THE JUDGES OF THE CONTEST VISITED THE VINEYARD IN PIRQUE TO TASTE THE ULTRA PREMIUM WINES OF THE COMPANY GUIDED BY THEIR OWN WINEMAKER.

Concha y Toro welcomed three of the best wine experts in Asia: Fongyee Walker from China, Young-Jin You from Korea, and Tersina Shieh from Hong Kong. Among the wines they tasted were Don Melchor, Carmín de Peumo and Terrunyo, accompanied by oenologists Tamara Baeremaecker and Ignacio Recabarren. In every lunch these experts enjoyed preparations by Chilean chef Guillermo Rodríguez, harmonized with wines from the Marques de Casa Concha line.

CONCHA Y TORO IN THE WORLD New global packaging of Sunrise

Casillero launches new campaign in Mexico Concha y Toro’s distribution subsidiary in Mexico, VCT & DG Mexico, was present at EXPO ANTAD 2013, held between the 13th and 15th of March in Guadalajara, bringing together buyers and managers of various supermarket chains, convenience stores and department stores.

The new presentation of the brand seeks to unify Sunrise’s packaging around a more contemporary and sophisticated image, where the sun icon holds a prominent place next to the brand’s new claim: Rise to the Sun. The new packaging for the Sunrise line, which unifies the image of this wine on a label with new elements of value such as the global claim “Rise to the Sun”, is now available for its distribution at a global level. This seeks to strengthen the product’s quality and give an innovative twist to the brand.

The event was attended by more than 2,000 exhibitors and had nearly 40,000 visitors, and the company was present in it with a stand offering tastings of its premium and super premium lines. At the fair the winery focused on the presentation of Gran Reserva Serie Riberas and the launch of Casillero del Diablo’s new campaign “Wine Legend”, installing a booth at the stand to present the new TV spot of the brand.

“This new presentation of Sunrise seeks to draw the attention of our consumers around the world through a contemporary and attractive graphical approach that reveals the quality behind this wine. Also, on the back label of the wine we included our ‘Sustainability Index’, which reports the amount of C02 emitted per bottle and the water footprint of each unit, among other things. Some of the brand values conveyed by this packaging are being an innovative and honest wine concerned about the environment”, explains Andrea García, Marketing Manager Varietals Brands. The new label keeps the icon of the sun as the center of interest and the color yellow as brand differentiator. This certification is granted by Vinos de Chile through Consorcios Tecnológicos del Vino and Tecnovid and certifies that Concha y Toro meets a national standard of the industry that promotes best practices throughout the production chain (vineyard, cellar and bottling process). The audit consisted of the analysis of processes concerning land use, pesticide use, recycling, and environmentally friendly

procedures in the vineyard. This certification is extended to the subsidiaries of Concha y Toro (Palo Alto, Maycas del Limarí, Viña Maipo and Canepa), which may also, like the winery, exhibit the eco label on their bottles. External grape producers also participated, accompanying the winery in a very committed manner throughout the process, ensuring that the sustainability criteria are applied not only internally, but extended to the producers.

Promoting native forest conservation

Through the presence of a sphere equivalent to one ton of CO2, which was deployed in the Peumo estate, Concha y Toro tried to show the amount of carbon dioxide that a tree captures in its lifetime.

This certification corresponds to the first stage that includes all the vineyards of the company, and with it begins a process that directs the winery to continue into the following phases of the initiative.
