Don Melchor 20th anniversary Don Melchor HAS TOURED DIFFERENT COUNTRIES CELEBRATING ITS 20TH ANNIVERSARY. NOW IT WAS PUERTO rICO’S TURN WHERE THE 2007 VINTAGE AND THE EXCLUSIVE 2009 VINTAGE BLEND CREATED FROM 7 LOTS WERE PRESENTED.
The year ended with a grand celebration in Puerto Rico. The event took place in San Juan, where in addition to the 2007 vintage other outstanding and representative historic vintages of this Cabernet Sauvignon were presented. The tasting revealed the secret of Don Melchor, created from grapes originating in seven lots of the Puente Alto vineyard. The “Puerto Rico Show”, as winemaker Enrique Tirado who led the tasting called it, was attended by around 100 people who had the opportunity of appreciating how each of the seven lots contributes to the final 2009 blend of Concha y Toro’s icon wine. Don Melchor, the Chilean wine industry’s first ultra premium wine, is the only one with 21 vintages to its name, all of them award-winners and distinguished by world wine critics. The wine has obtained some
of the highest scores awarded its category in Wine Spectator Magazine. In recent years, Don Melchor has excelled in performance and quality worldwide, receiving the highest distinctions in its history. In 2005, Don Melchor 2001 vintage was ranked fourth in the list of the Top 10 Wines of the World published by the above-mentioned magazine. In 2006 – and for the second consecutive year – Don Melchor 2003 was again named the fourth wine of the year in Wine Spectator. A true milestone in Chilean wine growing history, this red has become Chile’s biggest award-winning wine and is positioned as the great New World benchmark.
A new icon wine joins the Concha y Toro portfolio
Gravas del Maipo THE BEST SYRAH IN CHILE
At Hotel W Santiago, a new icon Syrah was presented to the specialized press: Gravas del Maipo 2007. During the tasting Gravas del Maipo winemaker Enrique Tirado presented the characteristics of this wine. To demonstrate its great versatility, the tasting was followed by a lunch in Osaka restaurant in the same hotel whose specialty is “Nikkei” cuisine. Guests were able to experience the benefits of the wine during a food & wine pairing of six small dishes - Niku Tataki Maki, Inkagyosa, Maguro Grill in Daikon sauce, Sautéed Sa Ho Fan, Lamb & Foie Gras in Umeboshi sauce and Manchego Tempura. Located in the southern shore of the Maipo River, Quinta de Maipo Vineyard is rooted in gravel soils found more than a meter (3 feet) underground. It is precisely this stony characteristic of alluvial soils of river basin terraces that impregnates this Syrah with rounded, complex and elegant tannins. “The first vintage of Syrah Gravas del Maipo 2007 is very elegant and presents great aromatic expression, marked by fruit such as blackberries, raspberries and cassis which blend well with chocolate, cedar and dry fruit notes and give the wine complexity and a unique style,” commented Enrique Tirado.
THE BEST SYRAH IN CHILE Just a few months after its launching, Gravas del Maipo became Chile’s Best Syrah according to the country’s three most prestigious wine guides. In “Descorchados 2011” wine guide, wine writer Patricio Tapia awarded the wine 95 points; the 2011 Wine Guide of La CAV Magazine, published by a panel of experts, gave the wine a 94-point score; and the “Women & Wine” guide by wine journalist Ana María Barahona awarded it 95 points. The reviews won by Gravas del Maipo reflect the importance of this project for the Company and the challenge of positioning Chile as a producer of top quality wines, as well as the constant and passionate search for those terroirs which faithfully express a wine’s character.

It is creamy and has intense aromas. There’s a captivating density of flavors. It is ripe without tiring and at the same time has delicious herbal notes as if to prove the Carmenere is there. Number 56 in the world
Marques de Casa Concha Cabernet Sauvignon 2007 leads among Chilean wines in Top 100 An excellent review for Marques de Casa Concha Cabernet Sauvignon 2007: it scored 91 points and was ranked number 56 among the 2010 Top 100 in Wine Spectator Magazine. Marques de Casa Concha achieved the best position of all Chilean wines included in this ranking and scored higher than other New World wines from countries such as Argentina. Each year the magazine editors select the best wines for their ranking from all wines reviewed in the past 12 months. The four evaluation criteria are quality, price, availability and a surprise factor (or “enthusiasm”). The Top 100 Wines of the World made its debut in 1988 and reflects the most important global wine industry trends. This is the third time a wine from the Marques de Casa Concha line appears in this prestigious ranking, confirming it the brand’s consistency, quality, high scores and important reviews.

LO A HISTORIC 2010 Casillero del Diablo releases modern publicity spot with Manchester United Following the strategic alliance with British football club Manchester United, Casillero del Diablo launched in Chile a revolutionary, modern publicity spot produced with cutting edge technology and a script linking medieval knights to football. The spot was produced using Motion Capture, a technique that records human actors’ motions and then translates those movements onto a digital model, such as 3D character animations. In Chile it is the first spot created with this technology, making this video a milestone in the history of Chile’s advertising industry. After its release in Chile’s prime time national television, the new advertisement has been praised and reviewed by the most prestigious internet digital media specialists. The plan is to launch the spot in the 130 countries where Casillero del Diablo is present.
New lighter bottles Casillero del Diablo is committed to environmental protection and collaborates by implementing the use of new lightweight bottles. These are 13% lighter than normal ones and present no visible changes in format and style. This initiative aims at using less glass to manufacture bottles and decreases by more than 2,200 tons per year the use of glass, which in turn translates into less energy use for transport of the Casillero del Diablo line. The initiative will help reduce Casillero del Diablo’s carbon footprint and also that of Concha y Toro.

The chosen wine for a “Bicentenary Toast” Marcelo Papa, Concha y Toro winemaker, had the honor of serving a glass of this wine to the President of Chile, Sebastian Piñera, in the “Bicentenary Toast”, an event attended by more than 200 guests including ambassadors and government authorities. The Bicentenary Toast commemorated the event hosted by former President of Chile Emiliano Figueroa in 1910, when he and about twenty diplomats of that time celebrated the 100th anniversary of republican Chile. “The fact that Marques de Casa Concha was chosen as the emblematic wine for this event has a
very special meaning for Concha y Toro. This wine fully reflects our Company’s tradition, as since its foundation in 1883 Concha y Toro has been linked to the country’s history. Marques is wine line which has won over 90-point scores for all its varieties confirming its quality and consistency,” stated Cristián Canevaro, General Manager of Comercial Peumo.
