Exclusive Interview Of Tenor
ROUBEN ELBAKIAN
You are baptized “Golden Voice" by the press and, recently, artist to the "Blessed Voice.” At what age did you become aware of this gift and decide to become a tenor? At the age of seven, as a soloist in the Armenian Youth Philharmonic Choir, I received the nickname "Little Caruso” As for the desire to become a tenor, I got it at the age of 12 while watching the movie "The Grand Caruso" with Mario LANZA. Caruso brought me luck. Until recently, a great French journalist has titled her article “Armenian Caruso". But, what is curious, for the American press I am “French Sinatra” after my clip My Funny Valentine. Also, I am Armenian for French and French for foreigners. What encouraged you to produce “My Funny Valentine?” Did you dedicate this to someone special? My Facebook Fan Club is for the most part American, although I have not yet had the opportunity to sing in the USA. To thank these fans, I recorded the wellknown Summertime, Can’t Help Falling in Love by Elvis Presley and New York New York by Frank Sinatra which earned me the nickname « French Sinatra » which I find very flattering. So, I decided to offer this surprise for Valentine’s Day. And I also wanted to honor the mythical couples of the movies who have allowed us to dream. If you could have dinner with any of those leading ladies, who might that be and why? What type of an evening would you spend with them? Sophia Loren without hesitation, always my idol for her divine beauty, natural talent and above all her loyalty to her spouse. She is the only one on the list who has succeeded both in life and in career, a rare achievement in this field. As far as our evening together, it would be at a recital in Naples, her home town, in her honor. She also has a copy of my Album “Neapolitan Songs.” On September 21st you performed the Marseillaise at the Arc de Triomphe during the official ceremony of the centennial of the French Renaissance, Whose President Denis Fada described it as "A MARSEILLAISE of anthology. It was, indeed, a memorable moment. But I had already sung the French and Armenian hymns under this monument as symbolic as the Arc de Triomphe for the 95th and 100th anniversaries of the Armenian genocide.
Presenting The Lifestyle of ROUBEN ELBAKIAN Rouben Elbakian is the first Armenian artist to sing at the Luxembourg Palace to the Bauffrand sallons of the French Senate!
NEW ALBUM RECITAL: 18 journeys of deep and diverse emotions: the best-known tenor arias, the most famous Spanish, Neapolitan, American, Hebrew songs and two Armenian chants of the great Komitas followed by Ave Maria.

Joan Sutherland says you have a “Voice of Rare Beauty?” Did she ever hear you? What led to that wonderful comment? Indeed, I had the good fortune of singing a short piece for her when she was in Paris in 2001 since she has been a great friend of Gohar Gasparyan. As for her flattering remark, I am honored of course, but I am not one to boast. Having sung the famous Jewish song "Hava Nagila", devoted to the peace between Israel and Palestine, you have become a peacemaker. What else do you consider the mission of your creativity? I was a little surprised to be offered this beautiful mission by the International Rotary as there are so many good Jewish singers in France who could have interpreted it. I have been fond of this song since my childhood and it made me happy to spread this message of PEACE by means of the only weapon I possess: my voice… moreover, my Jewish fans are wondering why the clip of Peace, recorded under the France representative Eiffel Tower, has not been made available on Armenian channels yet. Are you aware of the impact of your Voice? The impact of my voice, it reminds me of this famous phrase of Berlioz: "The chance to have talent is not enough; you still need the talent to be lucky. “ Who inspired you the most in your career? First and foremost, my unparalleled master Gohar Gasparyan; and the tenors who have inspired me, Beniamino Gigli and Franco Corelli. As far as Callas, no comment! How many recordings? You may list them. My discography includes three albums: KOMITAS, edited in 2006 for the Year of Armenia in France under the high patronage of the Armenian Museum of Genocide which received the prize of Coup de Coeur de la FNAC (Blow of Heart of FNAC), a great honor for me to see such a reaction by the French to an unknown piece of music. I am now re-editing for the 100th anniversary of the genocide. Second, Neapolitan Songs, edited in 2007 and praised by the French Academy of the lyric recording, and finally the last album released two months ago, entitled RECITAL, which includes18 titles: the best-known arias, the most famous Spanish, Neapolitan, American, Hebrew songs, and two Armenian chants of KOMITAS, followed by Ave Maria.
How do you relax from singing? Hobbies? Do you have a stress buster? Like all lyric singers and especially tenors, I swim three times a week to stay in shape. But my passion for cooking truly relaxes me. I adore preparing original dishes. Most tenors are excellent chefs. I also have a passion for natural stones which I collect. And I never miss an exhibition of precious stones. What do you appreciate in people best of all? Loyalty, nobleness of the soul and good tastes, which have nothing to do with money. As would Yves Saint Laurent say: “You should never mistake elegance for snobbism. Your future ambitions? To find a producer in the United States and in Latin America to promote my next album devoted to the best love songs in Spanish which I will dedicate to my Spanish fans. You go to Rome for a great AVE MARIA recital. When in NYC? When a big producer wants to invite me! There is no more Visconti to look for Callas or DeLong (smile)
As my research takes me wide and long I am privy to many wonderful lives such as Rouben Elbakian and his commanding tenor voice. I am so privileged to have this great interview to share; and wish that this could be an entire coffee table book. Rouben, thank you so much for sharing your personal and professional life, we look forward to bringing you back into Red Silk Carpet for more exciting stories riding on your carpet of beautiful talent! THE STAR -SPANGLED BANNER by ROUBEN ELBAKIAN http://youtu.be/3AN2usUP6sk
In 2010 in Paris, under the Arc de Triomphe, I have sung the Armenian and French national anthems honoring my homeland and my adopted country. Today, on the Fourth of July, it is with a deep and sincere pleasure that I have accepted a long time request from my American fans to perform their glorious anthem, " The StarSpangled Banner ". R.E.

Hello, my friends, this month I want to share my experience with the Monat hair care products. In 2015 I went in to see my hair stylist, she had been sharing info about the Monat system and I was curious. I'm part American Indian. My hair is my glory. At this point in life my hair was breaking and thinning out to the point of needing to be cut. My hair was past my backside and my stylist convinced me to cut off all the damaged hair and start using the Monat products. She began by measuring my hair and making a decision on how much to cut. We decided 14 inches . Of course I cried. I donated that hair to Locks of Love. I began using the hair products but only did so for about 6 months. I had tremendous hair growth and thickness. I took a break from the product and my hair lost its lustier and elasticity but I began using it again and noticed immediate difference. Let's just say now I'm a firm believer in the Monat products. They also carry a line of Eye Wonder for lashes and brow.
If you feel a growing concern with your hair and are unsure of how to manage it, reach out to me, we’ll chat! Shelleypekala@mymonat.com Shelley@redcarpetconciergeofchicago.com
Joshua Bonnett is a singer, rapper, songwriter, and producer from Phoenix, AZ. He now lives in Amarillo, TX with his wife of three years and his two year old daughter. He has been doing music for over 15 years, starting with singing at the age of 6. He began writing his own songs at the age of nine, and started rapping at around fourteen years old. He recorded his first song at the young age of eleven years old, written by his older brother who inspired him to start doing music. The song was called “Hang Out”, and was basically an innocent song about pursuing a crush.
Joshua is now twenty-seven years old and has written and recorded countless songs. He is a Christian who has a love for God, and his music naturally reflects that. In the past, his music was mainly about girls, money, and fame. His dream was to be signed to a major record label and become a huge celebrity. He wanted the money and fame because he thought it would make him more significant as a person. After dedicating his life to God, he realized that his significance wasn’t in how many people knew his name, how many records he could sell, or how much money he acquired, but that he was created with a purpose; to make an impact on the world for God’s glory. After this revelation, Joshua no longer desired to be a famous star, or to create music that was all about himself. Instead, he wanted to make music that he felt God would be proud to hear. Music that people could relate to on a real level. Joshua recently released an EP titled H2O, which embodies his life journey over the past few years and his growth and maturity in faith. It is available on all media outlets. The photo for the cover art of the EP was taken by Guthrie Bonnett, also known as ATOC and edited by Marc Saenz, also known as Procyse. Procyse is a rapper out of Denver, CO who does faith-based music. His music is also available on all media outlets. Social Media Instagram: joshua_b91 Twitter: joshua_b91 Soundcloud: /joshuab09

Ian Maksin Although I have spent more nights in the last year in hotels and on red-eye flights hopping from Eastern Siberia to South America and from San Francisco to Sydney, it's always an amazing and peaceful feeling to come back to Chicago, which has become a home to me. This beautiful city has been an infinite source of creative energy and inspiration to me ever since I first visited it over a quarter century ago. Apart from the lake, the park, the museums and restaurants, it's of course the vibrant music scene, which consists of both gifted musicians and a very supportive and enthusiastic audience. As an artist, I rely on this energy exchange with the listener. The Chicagoans, like no others, has always given me love and great vibe, which allows me to give them back even more in return in form of music and inspiration. During the short breaks in the international touring, my schedule in Chicago is always packed with exciting projects that often involve other Chicago artists. Among recent highlights are a sold out show at the Old Town School of Folk Music, children's performances for the Ravinia Festival and monthly residency at Jazz Showcase Chicago. Upcoming events are even more exciting. I am opening the Summer Music Series at the Millennium Park Pritzker Pavilion, sharing stage with renowned artists, Kahil El'Zabar and Jose James on June 18, 2018. On July 30th, I am thrilled to headline City Winery Chicago, along with one of my favorite bands "Guitarra Azul." Also a performance at the iconic North Shore venue "210 Live" on September 30, 2018. Every opportunity to play in Chicago is a chance to say "I love you" and share the good vibes that I have collected all over the world, to the city and the people that mean so much to me.

Bridget Damper never expected to be a MUA, it just happened.
Bridget Damper After years of going to school for the wrong occupation, working in the wrong field, and dealing with the bare minimum, she realized enough was enough and it’s time to be happy. If your heart’s not in it, being stuck in a place that doesn’t serve your purpose was not an option. Growing up she never wore makeup or even thought about it, in fact, she thought it was gross! One day her thoughts about makeup changed. She decided what the heck, let’s put some makeup on! When she first put it on, she was terrible! Crooked brows, crooked lips, and a ghost face compared to the rest of her skin complexion was the result. She wanted to stop and thought it was silly but something inside her told her to keep practicing. As time went on, she would go out in public and would get asked by random people, “Wow! Your makeup looks like a professional did it & where can I get my makeup done?” After getting asked repeatedly time after time by random people about where they could get their makeup done, she knew then that her calling was calling and it was time to answer the phone because it was God given. She then went back to school and became a Licensed Esthetician (Skin Therapist) and through that, became a published professional MUA doing various projects from fashion shows, magazine print, and photoshoots. Her range of makeup styles go from natural makeup all the way to Avant Garde and extreme. Her belief is there are no rules or limits to makeup and a person can bend their own reality of beauty and that is beauty in itself. She wants people feeling good about themselves when they leave her chair!

Heathers words... I have been making pictures for my mom since I was one. Scribbling pictures was my favorite thing to do. Ever since then, I learned I had a love for art and continued to grow as an artist as I got older. My mom would frame my art and hang them throughout our house. Drawing has always been an escape for me. Whenever I am filled to the brim with anxiety or stressed out about an upcoming event, I can always rely on a pencil and paper to calm me down.
So many people have inspired me to embrace my artistic talent and preserve it later in life. This year, I had one of the greatest experience with art as a freshman at Maine South high school. My art teacher, Mrs. Rams, allowed me to explore my artistic side farther then ever before. She gave me free reign to do whatever I felt would make my piece better. My passion for art grew. My portrait A charcoal selfie. We were photographed and given options on which we wanted to draw. However, I did not want to be like everyone else. Then it came to me, add texture. I decided to cover my mouth with my sleeves to add the texture of my sweatshirt to my selfie to make it different and more unique.

Hi,
Jackson, you are young and very creative and colorful in your work,
what kind of passion visited you when you first started? I took passion from a lot of different places but for my last collection I remember watching a Netflix documentary about nature where there was no narration but simply a collection of beautiful pictures and nature scenery without any narration filled the sounds of our world, there was so much color and beauty I instantly felt inspired by the great waterfalls and night sky filled with stars. What would you create a star to wear on the red carpet? Like a lot of great designers I do wish to one day create a masterpiece for the red carpet and I if I had a choice I would love to create a piece for the likes of Christine Adams, I’ve always admire her strength and passion for great acting and elegant she always looks no matter the role. Where do you see yourself when you are at the top of your game. At the top of my game I see myself showcasing in Paris or New York’s fashion week, competing against the best designers in the world, showing what I am capable of. What do you ask of your models when you choose them to walk for you? And then what road would you travel? At the top of my game I see myself showcasing in Paris or New York’s fashion week, competing against the best designers in the world, showing what I am capable of. What do you ask of your models when you choose them to walk for you? I always ask my models to remember to always have fun, their opinion matters to me and I always make sure that they get the recognition they deserve. We are all in this together and they are as much a part of my success as my own designs. Have you ever designed specifically for someone else? Yes I have on many occasions, for friends, family, coworkers and even 1-2 starting artists. From casual to special occasions like prom, singer stage and even a weeding. Very proud of what I’ve accomplish so far.
We wish you well Jackson, please give us some advice to share for those just beginning. Make sure you make the right decision for the right reasons, we all want to make it out there and become very successful designers but do not take shortcuts or step on other people to get what you want it simply isn’t worth it. don’t let anyone take advantage of your talent and don’t do anything you don’t want to do. Treat everyone with respect and kindness and always make sure your models know how you feel about them, thank them for everything they’ve done for you and remember you are all in this together don’t be afraid to collaborate with other designers and ask for help or advice when you need it. I would like to give thanks to my wonderful partner of my life Kem Quiles who is helping me write this article from beyond his busy schedule. And also I would like to thanks to Madam Sandra Smith-Doghmi who gave me opportunities to become more successful in my passion. I am truly blessed with those people who are kind and love me.

, you have a fabulous history of fashion and costuming, tell me
a little bit about the costuming as I understand you designed under Bob Mackie who is best known for his dressing of entertainment icons such as Joan Rivers, Cher, RuPaul, Barbara Eden, Bette Midler, Diana Ross, Judy Garland, Liza Minnelli, Tina Turner, Carol Burnett and Mitzi Gaynor. And of course, Carol Burnett of The Carol Burnett Show! Yes Sandra, I worked with Bob Mackie as his assistant designer, creating costumes and designing a collection. I even draped the garments, I learned a lot from him, a wonderful boss who put me under his wings. I was also given the opportunity from Mackie to design for the Most Watched Television drama in the World, "The Bold and the Beautiful" seen on CBS. Several of my designs were seen on the great late Darlene Conley, Lesley Ann Downs and Susan Flannery in the 90’s. Designing and creating may look like a very Glam job to everyone who really doesn't know what its like behind the scene. In reality, it is long hours of construction, fittings, and stress. Now I see it more as I make it fun and serious at the same time. I received the scripts from "B&B" which is more like "Dynasty" but it is set in the world of Fashion in Los Angeles with two fashion houses competing to be the center of universe. I had to research an advance notice of the story, the scene and what the characters were about like the unforgettable actresses Darlene Conley played a character who was very over the top because of her personality and wore Zebra prints, feathers, sequins. "To be honest, very Mackie diva". The beautiful Susan Flannery was more elegant very Armani, sophisticated and classic. And there's British diva who I loved, Lesley Ann Down was more like "Alexis" but more European and very Versace. It was so much fun learning from Bob Mackie and he even told me stories that I wouldn't dare tell, and given me tips of draping and patternmaking you won't find in books. He was the Master of his craft and my time with working for Bob Mackie was one of the best times of my life! Your edgy style brings you into the future of your career, what is going to be next? Yes Sandra, I always think "Out of the Box", make a Statement, Theatrical with a twist of Avant Garde looks. I have been told by an iconic designer who is also my good talented friend Anna Sui I used to be her patternmaker and draper, that I'm very Fashion Forward with concepts and thinking very Edgy.
Well, I have been in the industry for very long time, I interned in Milan for Gianni Versace for a semester before he was sadly murdered. After I graduated from the Fashion Institute of Technology, I worked for several fashion houses including Bob Mackie, Anna Sui, Nicole Miller, Todd Oldham, Issac Mizrahi to name a few. I have to say that I had a great fantastic run being a successful designer and afterward all at the same time, I taught at 3 very top fashion university in the country, Pratt Institute (the grandfather of all fashion schools), Parsons School of Design (the Tim Gunn era) and Fashion Institute of Technology (the #1 fashion university in the country and #2 in the world). After teaching at Pratt and Parsons, I was asked to come home back to FIT where I got my education to be full time Professor. I made the best choice since I also have freedom on the side to do other projects, freelance work, attend New York Fashion Week and do big fashion shows! I also have my own collection of menswear and womenswear that has been going on for over ten years and yes, I have and always will have an edgy style ...... Have you ever dressed someone for the Red Carpet? And who. When I was at Bob Mackie and creating several collections for him including "101 Dalmations" with Glenn Close. I was shocked to find out that one of my gowns I created would to the legendary Angela Lansbury, who was hosting the Tony Awards! I have dressed several Hollywood/Broadway stars including RuPaul, she was simply one of the most nicest human being to do fittings and work with. I created under Bob Mackie, RuPaul’s Isis wing fitted dress made with blue and white sequins for the VH1's Fashion Music Award, later seen in Bob Mackie's "Unmistakably Mackie" book. I dressed Paula Abdul, Fran Drescher, Mitzi Gaynor, Linda Gray, Teri Hatcher, Sharon Stone and the simple fabulous Diana Ross, she wore the unforgettable gown for the CFDA Awards honoree my great boss, Bob Mackie himself. 80/90s Super Model Coco Mitchell, she wore my black sequin knit gown with a black leather corset and tons of black feathers standing off one shoulder. She was simply divine....
We understand you are writing a coffee table book or books. Can you tell us a little bit about where the passion can for this creative part of your life? Picture this Sandra, in the works, the first Super Model of the World, Janice Dickinson, First Asian Super Model, Irina Pantaeva, 80/90's Super Model, Coco Mitchell and Lora Brooks, 70's Rock star, Debra Harry, Today's Super Model, Avadora Mimouni, Tokoselle Awa and Loydeen Pulsifer. These Famous beautiful faces have a lot in common and that is, they are all going to be seen in my coffeetable book! I will admit that this glossy coffeetable book will be very different and very unique. The book will have a lot of statement with different theme and designs that I have created and several friends of who were my students. Its going to be bold, beautiful, statement, daring and very fashion forward. It will feature lots of over the top designs womenswear Couture and menswear designs with familiar faces, including Robert Sepulveda, Jr, Rafael Medina Vallejo, Anthony Parker, Andres Mejia, John Strand, and Alex Raffio. It also will have some inspiring work and homage to Dior, Givenchy, Lacroix, Versace, Mulger and McQueen. I have been working on my book for nearly 3 years since I want each pages to be unforgettable and have a "WOW" and "Oh My God" kind of reaction. Exclusive Art drawings, accessories, shoes, bags and location shoots. I am working with my good friend Vasilios, shoe designer who is also my colleague from FIT working with me with ideas and collaborations. Plus I have been working with several top fashion photographers including my good friends, Frank Louis, and James Weber. Different photographers make the book unique and different since they all have a different eye and perspective. The Coffeetable Book will have the Fashion World talking! That's all I will say for now... What would you say is the greatest part of your personal lifestyle, or do you even have one? Jogging, biking, collecting? My greatest part of my personal lifestyle is I have been married to my successful career for so long and meeting people from the fashion industry who became my very close best friend that are so dear to me. I love spending time with my family and friends. My greatest escape to relax would be at the Spa and Working out with my Trainer at Equinox Greenwich Ave, go to the Costume Institute at the Met, the Broadway shows, I love Gardening, going for a drink and dinner with my close friends, love to go dancing, sightseeing and be surrounded by creative environment.
I’m a real book worm and I own lots of books on fashion, I love reading on fashion, Diane Vreeland, Versace, Dior to name a few. I created my own library. My friends and students know that I love decorating, I'm all about the presentation of everything from a Room to a portfolio to everything‌ I must say I love my life and I had to work very hard to where I am today. Being born deaf and a hearing impaired student to graduate with two degrees at FIT. When I graduated, I had to prove the industry that my hearing impairment was not in the way, I was honored that they gave me the opportunities , the best jobs from being a draper, a patternmaker, Head designer, Assistant designer in every field of the fashion industry. YES, Life is Beautiful Sandra!
