Al Bandiero and Marlyn Bandiero, Owners of Because I Can Productions LLC By Jules Lavallee
Al Bandiero’s first film was Rocky IV, the highest grossing film in the series. Not a bad way to start. He was a regular for 72 episodes on the TV series, Desire, a Fox Network owned show, seen in 96% of the United States and 52 countries around the world. He was co-lead in the independent film, Go For It, distributed by Lionsgate Studios. Al is the lead actor in, The Company, set in the 1950's, it is a tribute to the black and white films of that era. It has been sold to DirecTV, AT&T U-Verse, iTunes, and the ShortsHD network.
Along with several screenplays in various stages of development, he is executive producer and one of the lead
characters in Matter of Family, a drama series for cable TV being developed by Al and his wife, Marlyn. He has appeared in numerous TV commercials such as Miller Beer, McDonald's, Salonpas and E-Trade to name a few. His voice was heard on TV and radio commercials for products such as Revlon, Nestea Iced Tea, Volvo, and Pop Albums. Al was a hugely successful radio personality in NYC on legendary stations KTU,Hot 97, WPLJ along with hosting many national TV shows.
Marlyn Bandiero is a freelance screenwriter who was commissioned to write the script for Blue Betrayal. The story is inspired by true events and the screenplay was ©Red Silk Carpet

nominated for Best Drama and Best Dramatic Scene at the AOF International Film Festival. Her short script, Modern Love was picked from over 2000 worldwide submissions, making the top twelve finalists in a Roman Coppola/W Hotel/Intel screenplay competition.
Marlyn wrote and produced two nationally syndicated radio shows heard in over 200 national markets.
She has also written two very popular children’s books, Dante’s Cool Wheels and Dante’s Cool Wheels Book 2 Believe, Achieve. They are stories inspired by the 14-year journey with her disabled German Shepherd Dog.

Tell us about your background and the importance of launching your own production company, Because I Can Productions LLC.
from scratch and watching our creations come to life.
Al: I was born and raised in Brooklyn, NYC, and grew up in an Italian American household where work ethic was a must along with having good people in your life. I was fortunate enough to have a very successful radio/TV career in NY as well as syndicated shows.
Al: Our relationship started as friends when he came to the building, I was living in to look at an apartment. That very day, we had a conversation and he suggested I branch out and explore other possibilities in my career. Shortly afterward, he offered me Rocky IV. I value the many things he taught me about the business, you could never put a price tag on that. There are very few people of his level who would take the time and effort to pass on their knowledge. I will always be grateful to him.
Marlyn: I was born in Havana, Cuba, and raised in Washington Heights, NYC. I grew up speaking Spanish at home with all the traditions of Cuba and when I went to school I was absorbed in the American culture, speaking English, and learning to be American. After college, I interned at the United Nations Department for Disarmament Affairs and had the opportunity to study in France and Italy because of those experiences I now speak four languages.
Al: We have both worked on many productions through the years and even today, we continue to work on other productions as well as our own. I was a series regular on a Fox-owned drama seen all over the world and of course, my first big break with Sylvester Stallone gave me a shot in Rocky IV. I've learned a lot and thought it was our turn to tell interesting stories.
Marlyn: I've enjoyed being in front of the camera but realized early on that my love was creating the stories, watching, and listening to others say the words I've written. I think we both love the art and process of creating
Sly Stallone took you under his wing. What do you value the most?
What is your philosophy behind your production company? Al: As a start-up production company with several projects, both film and TV we are passionate and dedicated to making quality content and want to work with people who are also passionate and dedicated to the work. Marlyn: We are unique in that we are a husband-and-wife team that likes to work with each other despite having "quite" different personalities. Think of us as Yin and Yang. There are days, however, that can be a challenge.
Who would you like to work with in 2024?
Al: This might sound like a generic answer, but it is not. I want to work with people no matter how long they’ve been in this business who are still excited to make movies and TV shows and never stop raising the bar.

Marlyn: I want to work with people who are not afraid to take chances. People who see a barrier and say, “Let’s figure out a way to get around it.”
One of your projects is Blue Betrayal, a Crime/Drama inspired by true events in which your screenplay, Marlyn, was nominated for Best Drama and Best Dramatic Scene at the AOF International Film Festival. What led you to this project? Why is this story so captivating? Marlyn: It is the story of a man who teaches his children about the importance of integrity. When his trusted friends become his enemy, he’s faced with a choice, sell out or lose everything, he would not bend, he would not sell his soul. He’s in for the fight of his life. I was approached to write this story by Al’s trainer. Something happened to him in his previous career that changed the course of his life. When he sat down to tell us the story, everything happened in the same neighborhood I grew up in. I knew the kind of people he was talking about; the feel of the time and I knew I had to write the screenplay. Switching gears to your horror film, The Mine on Gehenna Road. What do you want people to know about this film? Marlyn: Although entertaining for the huge following this genre has, this screenplay hits the fear button but also teaches a bit about history. People will scream and also learn the history of a certain location and the events that occurred there.

Al: Marlyn read a story that took place in this location and decided to make it into a horror/thriller screenplay. When I read it, it checked all the boxes that fans of this genre I feel would enjoy. If Marlyn comes up with another horror/thriller, why would we not do it? Tell us about your new family drama, Matter of Family.
Marlyn: I wrote the pilot a while ago after Al finished his TV series. I was always intrigued by the dynamic between siblings that happens in many families. Growing up I loved watching all the popular nighttime dramas and wanted to write a story about the conflicts between rival siblings in an environment where family is of utmost importance.
How would they navigate their desires for power when they are told the family comes first?
Al: Robert is basically a good person but when you push someone into a corner and there is no way out, you’d be surprised what the so-called good person is capable of. He shows a side of himself that his family and friends have never seen before. I am attracted to the character because he goes through a severe metamorphosis because of his circumstances. What are your current projects? Al: The two previous projects we mentioned plus a third completed script which is an espionage thriller are in various stages of development. We were in talks with a capital investment company who after seeing our company’s portfolio and pitch desks were impressed and offered us a threepicture deal, but it wasn’t the right
fit for our production company.
Marlyn, as a screenwriter what genres interest you?
Marlyn: I write whatever I’m interested in. I’ve written drama, horror, and dramedy. I’m drawn to interesting characters more than specific genres. For example, the espionage thriller screenplay has a strong female lead who is intelligent, a weapons expert, and physically able to go toe to toe with any adversary. I also write and punch up scripts for other people. You were approached by a capital investment company for a financial investment in your films. You decided that it wasn’t a good fit. What makes a good fit?
Al: Although we were very grateful for the three-picture deal offer from this capital investment company, after consulting with our attorney, Bianca Goodloe, who has done many deals, all three of us decided to pass on the offer. It’s not just about the numbers. We’ve seen too many times where filmmakers rush to make a deal and it doesn’t work out well for them. Your gut will always tell you when something is right or wrong. We are confident in our projects that a deal will be made with an individual, group, or company. Marlyn, you have written two very popular children’s books, Dante’s Cool Wheels and Dante’s Cool Wheels Book 2 Believe, Achieve. What was your inspiration for your books? How much fun did you have writing these stories?
Marlyn: I was inspired by Dante, our disabled German Shepherd dog. Dante came from a
champion bloodline and was an amazing dog. When he was six years old, he had a paralyzing stroke. We tried every physical therapy available however, he was unable to recover the use of his back legs. We got him a wheelchair and he thrived. Dante never let anything stop him from doing whatever he wanted, even with a wheelchair. He inspired so many people with his tenacity, joy, and love. I wanted to write a book that would give children and adults the courage to overcome any obstacle they are facing. To never give up. I loved writing these books, working with my illustrator, and watching our Dante come alive as a cartoon. Many children around the country and the world have read the books and love Dante’s story. I will continue writing more books that inspire children to be the best they can be. I’ve also written a treatment for a half-hour children’s animated series based on Dante’s Cool Wheels which is part of our production company’s slate of projects.
Share your vision for 2024.
Al and Marlyn: Our goal is to continue to produce and tell stories that are entertaining, interesting, and successful. We are looking forward to collaborating with talented people in front and behind the camera in 2024. We have been approached to do a Podcast as a husband-and-wife team. So, that is something new in our portfolio for 2024.
By the end of the year, we would like to see our calendar start to fill up with projects for 2025. www.becauseIcan productions.com

Jimmy Diele Host of Celebrity Spotlight Honors I n s p i r i n g Wo m e n fo r Wo m e n ’ s H i s t o r y M o n t h By Jules Lavallee
What led you to entertainment? I started my career as a DJ back in 1982. I was a DJ at the Holy Family School in Canarsie, Brooklyn. I was a DJ and host for the student dances for about five years. After I graduated from High school, I decided I would like to work in radio. I attended ATS, a well-known Broadcasting School in New York City. After putting together an on-air tape to send to Radio stations, I was hired to work at an Oldies radio station in Sparta New Jersey WNNJ. I worked the weekend shows there on Sunday mornings for about six months and was stolen away by another New Jersey radio station, WSUS. I would be on-air there for about five years. I was always a big fan of the television show, Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous. I randomly sent a resume to their office and was called in to interview for an assistant position to Robin Leach and the producers of the show. I worked with Robin, doing personal errands for about seven months. I really wanted to
still pursue my desire to be a Radio personality. I was then called by New York City Radio Station WPLJ. I was asked to work in their research department. So, after that I became assistant producer of the morning show. I soon became a morning show Radio personality there on the morning show. I worked with Rocky Allen where we developed my radio show Celebrity Spotlight. I would also go on to work with Scott Shannon. I was on air at WPLJ for about five years. I then went to a cross town station WKTU, I became an assistant producer of the Rupul radio morning show. I then was offered a position as a Radio personality at New York City and New Jersey’s New Country Y-107. I was then hosting a radio show there for about another five years. From there, I would host a Country radio show at K - 98.5 Jersey Kountry on the Jersey Shore. I then decided to work on my Celebrity Spotlight radio show and bring it back to radio. I then had an opportunity to host the show

again for iHeart Radio. I still continue to host this fun Celebrity radio show. It is also broadcast on the internet; Facebook live and You tube. I have interviewed hundreds of Celebrities over the years and developed many great friendships with them as well. So, I guess I am pretty much following in the footsteps of my friend and former boss Robin Leach. It has been a wild ride over the years. I been in the business now for more than thirty years. The show goes on! I grew up in Brooklyn, New York. I have always been fascinated with the world of entertainment. Listening to the radio and television was a big part of my life. The Radio personalities, television hosts and Actors of that time, were very intriguing to me. I knew from a very early age, I wanted to be a part of that world.
What makes the Celebrity Spotlight so popular?
Who have you enjoyed the most?
I think what makes Celebrity Spotlight the popular show it has become is for the fact I keep the show very lite and fun. I never make a guest feel uncomfortable. I try to keep the flow of the show like a conversation between two friends. I also try to ask questions I think my audience would want to ask. My goal is to keep the interview fun and interesting.
I enjoy interviewing a lot of my favorite celebrities I grew up with listening to on the radio and watching on television. The people who intrigued you growing up, a lot of those are my personal favorite interviews. Some of the classic television stars like Randy Mantooth from Emergency and Butch Patrick from the Munster’s. Also, music artists like Tom Jones, ZZ- Top, Johnny Cash, Engelbert Humperdinck, Wayne Newton, I also had encounters with Leann Rimes, Shania Twain, and Miranda Lambert. I guess my personal favorite entertainment personality’s, I have interviewed and encountered are the ones I enjoy the most. It is rewarding when I can produce a great interview and make the listening audience just as excited about my guest as I am.
We are approaching Women's History Month. Who can we expect to see on your show? Upcoming guests for Women's History Month are Travel Expert, Author and Radio Host Pauline Frommer, and Actress, Musician, and Comedian Marilyn SokoL. Marilyn has worked in movies and television with some of the biggest names in the film industry from Jim Carrey, and Woody Allen to Leonardo DiCaprio. She has also worked in a wide range of television shows like Barney Miller Sesame Street to Sex in the City. Also coming up is Country recording artist Danni Stefanetti, originally from Australia and now taking the country music scene here in the states by storm.
Some of our guests coming up include, Legendary radio Personality, Actor, Screenwriter and producer Al Bandiero, Legendary New York City television news reporter Marvin Scott, also famous Travel Host, Radio Host, Journalist and Author Pauline Frommer. Also set to come on our show, later this year

Gavin B. Keilly, Founder and CEO of GBK (gbkbrandbar.com), a luxury lifestyle gifting and special events company, specializing in entertainment marketing integration. Founded in 2000, GBK consists of four distinct divisions: GBK Luxury Gift Lounges; GBK Events/ Launch Parties; GBK Charitable Consulting and GBK Public Relations/ Marketing Services. Though separate, each entity is interconnected, allowing clients/ brands a full range of marketing services and benefits. GBK is a company dedicated to giving each client customized marketing options with high quality and tailor-made services. GBK has a proven track record for attracting a celebrity clientele such as Neil Patrick Harris, Jennifer Aniston, Viola Davis, Helen Mirren, Anthony Anderson, Forrest Whitaker, Leonardo DiCaprio, H.E.R, Rhianna, and Ryan Seacrest, (just to name a few). GBK has taken part in such highprofile events as Gifting Lounges prior to the Oscars, Emmys, Emmy, Golden Globes, backstage at the CNN Hero Awards, BETs 10th Annual GLAAD Awards, Sundance, Cannes, and the list goes on. Gavin has also been seen on CNN, CBS NEWS, NBC Morning Show, MSNBC, FOX, EXTRA, and various other shows. GBK and Gavin have also been featured in Forbes, Wall Street Journal, Business Week, People Magazine, US Weekly, In Style, USA Today, New York Times, CNN.com, and many nationally read publications.
Gavin was one of the first companies to actually come up with the gift suite concept. LA Times has referred to GBK as “The Gift Bag King,” and others referred to GBK as “Giving Back Kindly” for all his charitable work. Today, GBK produces gift suites prior to all the big award shows, gifts totaling upwards of $100,000 per bag. GBK also generates over 100 MILLION Media Impressions for their brands at every event they create. Gavin has mastered getting brands the ultimate amount of impressions and thinking outside the “cube.” This business is truly about creating the “Win-WinWin.” The celebrity wins because they get a phenomenal amount of fantastic gifts, including vacations, jewels, the latest fashion, and plenty of the coolest gadgets on the market, the Vendor (GBK’s client) also wins, as they get a photo with each celebrity and their product that they can use in their internal marketing material, social media, and most importantly the ability to submit it to press outlets, and the charities win because they have the opportunity to garner additional exposure and revenue.
When did your gift for product marketing begin? My start was actually marketing homemade chocolate chip cookies when I was 12 years old. If you are talking about product placement with the celebrities, that started a little over 20 years ago when I did an event with the Osbourne Family and Ozzy put a Baume & Mercier watch in his mouth. I got that placed in People Magazine and US Weekly.

I realized that I could help brands grow by introducing them to celebrities and would help them get a tremendous amount of exposure not only in person, but in the press. What do you love the most when working with brands and celebrities? I love seeing the “RESULTS” from brands participating in our Luxury Gift Lounge. This ranges from simply generating over 200 Million Media Impressions by participating in one event to seeing a brand get picked up by Neiman Marcus, Sax 5th Ave, Sephora, or BEVMO. The aspects I love about working with celebrities are numerous. I love watching the smile on their faces when they connect with an actor they haven’t seen in a while at one of my lounges. I also love watching the way they engage with the brands and show them they care. Finally, I love their appreciation. They genuinely are appreciative for all these gifts, which in reality we are just giving them in appreciation of “their” accomplishments throughout the year. How has the industry changed?
The gifting industry has only changed for the better with social media getting more prevalent. Now the talent, as well as the brands, can post or do a story to give even more exposure to various products that people may have never seen before.
What makes a good product to show to celebs? There are so many amazing products. It could be something unique that they have never seen before like an avocado sock that ripens an avocado overnight, a beautiful handbag, skincare that actually works, beautiful candles, high-quality jewelry , but most importantly products that make a difference in their day-to-day life that maybe they haven’t thought of or don’t presently own. I always test everything first before allowing them to be at one of my events.
What products are celebs looking for? The Celebrities don’t really have any expectations when they come to the lounge. That is why they are always excited when they leave with $50,000+ of items that are useful. I think that is the key. They definitely are looking for items that are useful. That said, they are always looking for a great “getaway” vacation, somewhere they can relax, as they are typically working 12-14 hours when on set or on tour. How important has “authentic collaboration” been to your success? This is incredibly important. This is one of the reasons social media is important. Many celebrities post after they use a product or visit a particular property. Authenticity truly SELLS a product and I think consumers these days know the difference between an “ad” and
when someone truly loves what they are showing on their Instagram.
tremendous amount of exposure, via all the press outlets that cover our events.
Can you share a product that you instantly knew was a winner?
You are a true philanthropist. Please share some of the organizations that you support.
There have been so many. It definitely has to do with the packaging and the quality of the product. This has ranged from El Cristiano Tequila, California Caviar, 3 LAB Cosmetics, Revitalash, Portovino wine bag, and even inexpensive products, like YASSI Butta, Yoga Toes, and POOPH and CARE A2 Baby Formula.
We support NUMEROUS Organizations, as there are so many great causes making a difference in so many lives. A few that I donate to on a regular basis are: Food on Foot, Educating Young Minds, City Of Hope, Race to Erase, Gabrielle’s Angel Foundation, George Lopez Foundation, and Make a Wish Foundation. I learned at an early age that one gets more out of giving than receiving. It simply feels good!
What would people be surprised to know about you? I care more about the celebrity having a good experience at my lounge before the money that I make from producing these lounges. If it is a product that I KNOW the celebrity is going to like the brand and the owner may not have a big budget, I will either give them a huge discount or take a small percentage of the company to let them play with GBK. Also, I thoroughly enjoy giving back in any way I can.
Why do you do what you do? I truly believe that brands can take their product to the next level by participating in one or two events of my events. They not only end up with 50-60 photos with top talent, but they have the opportunity to build relationships and maybe get an investor or a celebrity spokesperson. Most importantly, they can garner a

For new brands, what is your advice to open doors with celebrities? As I have been in this business for over 20 years, I am a little biased, but I truly do believe participating in one of our gift lounges is a phenomenal way to meet anywhere between 40-70 celebrities, depending on the event. For new brands, I would suggest smaller events, like a celebrity golf tournament, as I am able to work with them on price. It’s a great entrée into the gifting arena where you can still walk away with a lot of great photos and start to build relationships.

From an extremely early age, she had the passion to work in the entertainment industry, both in front of and behind the camera. She starred in a play when she was four. When she was growing up, she and her friends would re-enact and record commercials and television shows, at her direction.

Caleb and Fiona begin to forge a new life together, but Celine becomes obsessed with reclaiming what she believes is rightfully hers, including Caleb’s newborn son, Brody. It appears that she may just succeed. But just when Celine thinks she has achieved her devious goals, the film takes yet another twist and turn on this roller coaster ride of a modernday noir, set in LA.
When did your passion for entertainment begin? Thanks for having me Red Silk Carpet Magazine. As far as background I am a Mexican/ Nicaraguan American. As a kid growing up in the 80’s & 90’s, I always had a love for storytelling and entertaining people. Every day of my life as a child, I would create skits, scenarios for skits, characters, dance performances, and audio recordings of pretend talk shows. I caught the acting bug when I was in a church play at an early age. When I became a teenager, I would use my uncle's camcorder to film our family parties. It was then I saw a different aspect of being behind the camera, and I was just as excited about that as I was about acting. This all led me to study theater arts at San Jose City College, and in 2008 I moved to Los Angeles, which was really the beginning of my journey to becoming a filmmaker. Over the last fifteen years, I worked on numerous projects that vary from being an extra, a script supervisor and an assistant director and more. All of this experience was key to preparing me to write, direct and produce DEMISE. Your new gripping thriller "Demise" not only captivates audiences with its suspenseful narrative and compelling characters, but it also serves as a rallying cry for the representation of Latinos in film. Tell us about your film and the importance for Latinos in film. Latinos are extremely underrepresented both in front of
and behind the camera. It was very important to me that I present Latino characters in a positive light. For example, one of the main characters, Fiona, is a successful Fashion Designer as is “Miguel” her best friend. In addition, all the Latino characters live in nice houses in LA. Behind the camera it was also important for me to employ people of Latin descent. Besides myself, my cinematographer Justin Aguirre is half Mexican and half Filipino. And a few other crew members were of Latin heritage. However, I never choose anyone to work with solely because of their race, I just want to work with the best people. But my stories have Latino characters because that’s what I know. Take us through the film. What was critical to you as a director? It’s critical for me to communicate “the vision” to the cast and crew in detail before principal photography commences. The vision is the direction for each department while making a film. There’s a vision for wardrobe, lighting, color, the look and style of the film, the shot list, the setting, the music, etc. Capturing the vision in all facets of making a film is my highest priority. It was also important to me that the film wasn’t too complex or niche and that the story was easy to understand and was entertaining. We are approaching Women’s History Month, what has been the biggest challenge as Latina Filmmaker?

The biggest challenge has been to be taken seriously. And for an unknown filmmaker, getting my film produced and distributed has been the greatest challenge of my life. And when you are a Latina, you look around and are mindful of the fact that there are very few Latina Writers/Directors that are actively working in Hollywood. It is an enormous barrier to break. It is truly a miracle that I was able to make and sell DEMISE. What would people be surprised to know about you? That in my everyday life I’m super silly. Only my family and those who are really close to me know this. I definitely get it from my dad because he is the same way.
Who has inspired you during your career? I am inspired by the best directors in the business such as Brian De Palma, Quentin Tarrantino, Martin Scorsese, and Alfred Hitchcock. I have never had any Latina directors to look up to, although I was inspired by Jennier Lopez. What is next for you? A sequel to Demise, and I hope to direct other people’s projects as well as get a couple of my other scripts financed and produced. And I hope to find an agent. Robert Craig Fou n d er of Rober t Craig Films Presents
No Address By Jules Lavallee
Before Robert Craig produced movies, his successful tenure at business started in 1996 where he founded the Gutterglove company. This business is the leading gutter guard supplier in the U.S. with manufacturing plants in California and Tennessee. He focused on growing this highly successful business that to date has sold more than 147,000,000 feet of stainlesssteel micro-mesh gutter guards. His philosophy has always been, put equal emphasis on marketing your product as you do in making it. One without the other is a waste of time.
While he grew the company to manufacture the most trusted gutter guards in North America, along this journey it was favorably rated #1 by the most coveted product review organization in the world, Consumer Reports Magazine. Their products have been profiled on virtually every major network including ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox, The Discovery Channel, This New House,
Renovation Nation, The Early Show and Cool Tools. Quality manufacturing is of paramount importance to Robert, which is why his products are rated #1 on virtually every website including Costco, Sam’s Club, Home Depot, Lowe’s, Amazon, and others.
technology in the home gutter industry, to placate a lifelong passion to participate in the movie industry, he carved out time after hours and on weekends for years to evaluate potential film projects, attend key film industry functions and even have screenplays written.
Throughout the entire process of developing the company, he never missed an opportunity to make professional videos for the products they manufactured.
In 2019 he founded Robert Craig Films, the platform for which he planned to produce many movies. Not just any film, but movies of inspiration and hope, films that make people smile, films that bring a high level of entertainment with spiritually uplifting storylines to the viewer.
Over the course of 25 years at the company, Robert produced numerous educational videos, training videos, how-to videos, TV commercials, informercials and even a documentary on the founding of the company. Along with winning many awards in video production, the creative and production experience laid the foundation for moving on into full-length feature films. Even though Robert garnered 27 patents in developing new

One of his first film projects was overseeing the development of his own screenplay, The Almighty Yes, of which he commissioned two award-winning screenwriters, John Graham, and Alexandra Boylan to write. That screenplay won second place in the Kairos Pro Screenplay Awards through Movie guide and will soon go into production.

As Robert Craig Films continues to grow, he leverages his life-long experience in guiding a path of success while avoiding the pitfalls that have derailed many hopeful start-ups. By tapping into his extensive business adventures, not letting emotions make the decisions, he has been able to greenlight several film projects. He relies on due diligence and careful review before giving a thumbs up.
Robert had the privilege of being the Executive Producer on the highly impactful social media film The Lost Girls, which enjoyed a LIFETIME Channel premiere. This award-winning film chronicles the story of a 16-yearold girl that gets sex trafficked and amplifies the importance of awareness that all parents and children must follow. Not long afterwards, he became producer of another social impact film that also magnifies the reality of child trafficking, titled Maya. Partnering with
Hollywood veteran Producer/Writer/Director Julia Verdin, Robert enjoyed the producing experience and working with celebrities such as Rumer Willis, Latin Star Patricia Velasquez and rising stars Billy Budinich and Isabella Feliciana. Along the way of producing with Julia, Robert purchased her screenplay Amy and Angel, an inspirational story about a young deaf girl that gets bullied and her rescued dog and how they dance magically together while competing on a national TV talent show. He also understands that building an audience for watching his movies is equally as important as making the films. His Big Hairy Audacious Goal (BHAG) is to build a following of millions of people. As part of the grassroots marketing efforts to garner attention on this script, Robert submitted the Amy and Angel screenplay to film festivals all over the world. film festivals and 51 BEST SCREENPLAYS and 2 BEST FEMALE SCREENWRITER awards. With the screenplay that Robert is currently producing, "No Address", into a movie about those experiencing homelessness, has also been submitted to film festivals around the world. The script has been accepted into 152 film festivals and already has chalked up 62 BEST SCREENPLAY wins to date. Ironically, the screenplay submission process into film festivals started recently, just this past October.
Red Silk Carpet spoke with Jennifer Stolo, CEO of Robert Craig Films about “No Address.” Robert Craig films are wellknown for films of inspiration and hope. Tell us about partnering with Hollywood veteran Producer/Writer/Director Julia Verdin.
The story behind our production company is pretty incredible. It all started with my desire to use film to inspire real change in communities. We were actually working on another movie project with Julia Verdin when something unexpected happened. While driving through LA, we passed by Skid Row, and Julia mentioned a script she had regarding those experiencing homelessness.. That moment sparked something in Robert, and suddenly, our whole focus shifted. We knew Julia's script had the potential to make a big impact on how people view homelessness in America. We're thrilled to be bringing Julia's screenplay to life, both on screen and in a novel. Julia’s passion for using movies to make a difference is contagious. Her dedication to shedding light on important issues through storytelling is truly inspiring, and we can’t wait to make more in the future The script has been accepted into 152 film festivals and already has chalked up 62 BEST SCREENPLAY wins to date. What statement does this make? This achievement acknowledges the universal resonance of the film's message and the skillful execution of its narrative from Julia Verdin. These awards validate our efforts through our upcoming five productions to shed light on the complexities of homelessness and to provoke meaningful change on behalf of this pressing social issue. Ultimately, we are thankful for these recognitions as we hope to highlight the human side of homelessness and the power of storytelling to inspire empathy, spark dialogue, and invoke positive
change in our communities. The visuals in “No Address” can’t help but to pull at your heart strings. How easy is it for a normal average individual to quickly fall down the slope to homelessness? We truly believe and have seen that “Homelessness Could Happen to Anyone.” Statistics tell us that this year alone, an estimated 1/3 of Americans will have an immediate family member or close friend experience some kind of homelessness. These are real people; they have real stories and oftentimes they are not the stories we think they are. This script is inspired by true events. Julia said she met one young woman on skid row who came home one day on her birthday and found her things on the doorstep as her foster parents were no longer receiving government funding to care for her. A boy told Julia how he ran away from an abusive and bullying father and ended up living on the streets. We have spoken to so many people who had good lives and jobs and came from good families who through different misfortunes ended up on the streets. They never thought it would happen to them. Take William Baldwin’s role in our movie for example where he plays a once successful businessman in the throes of financial ruin due to his gambling addiction desperate to take back the land the street his family lives on for a prosperous development project. Soon Robert’s family will have to face the reality of his own financial nightmare and may even need help from those he once despised. It really can happen overnight.

What surprised you the most when filming?
Truly, the power of film has captivated me. While I had always believed in the potency of our script's message, experiencing the raw emotion captured while watching the dailies struck me. It's not just about depicting the stark reality of America's homeless crisis, with 1.5 million children and 1.2 million adults grappling with homelessness every single day. It's about honoring their truth, their struggles, and their resiliency. To have the opportunity to shed light on their reality is both humbling and a profound honor. Yet, beyond merely showcasing their plight, we carry a profound hope that our film will ignite empathy in the hearts of our viewers. With empathy comes understanding, and with understanding comes the potential for real change. 40% of homeless individuals became homeless after 50. Tell us about the reality starting with policies. The reality of homelessness, especially among individuals over the age of 50, is a complex issue influenced by a multitude of factors, including policy decisions. Here are a few examples of policies that impact homelessness among this demographic: 1. Affordable Housing Policies: The lack of affordable housing options is a significant contributor to homelessness among older individuals. Policies aimed at increasing the availability of affordable housing, such as subsidies for low-income housing or rent control measures, can help prevent homelessness among older adults.
2. Social Security and Retirement Benefits: Policies related to social security, pensions, and retirement benefits can have a direct impact on older adults' ability to maintain stable housing. Insufficient social security benefits or cuts to retirement benefits can push older individuals into poverty and homelessness. 3. Healthcare Policies: Access to affordable healthcare is crucial for older adults, many of whom may have chronic health conditions or disabilities. Policies related to healthcare, including Medicaid expansion and funding for mental health services and substance abuse treatment, can help prevent homelessness by addressing underlying health issues. 4. Supportive Services: Older adults experiencing homelessness often have unique needs, including healthcare, mental health services, and assistance with daily living activities. Policies that fund and support supportive services targeted at this population, such as case management, access to healthcare, and outreach programs, can help older adults transition out of homelessness and into stable housing. 5. Age Discrimination Policies: Older adults may face discrimination in employment, housing, and access to services, which can contribute to homelessness. Policies aimed at combating age discrimination and promoting equal access to employment and housing opportunities can help prevent homelessness among older individuals.
Overall, addressing homelessness among older adults requires a comprehensive approach that includes policy interventions targeting affordable housing, income support, healthcare, supportive services, and efforts to
combat age discrimination. Is America past the tipping point?
You will have to see our Documentary to find out! Streaming this May, as producers of the feature film No Address we wanted to have an accurate perception and understanding of what homelessness truly looked like across the U.S. We were interested in learning more about what solutions have been implemented and proven to show positive changes in the community. On our three-week bus tour, we visited with over 500 people in 20 major cities across 18 states facing high rates of homelessness. The team interviewed policy leaders, mission directors, clinical specialists, CEOs of national nonprofits, executive directors of local and regional nonprofits, influencers, those with lived experiences, and those who were still experiencing homelessness. Trauma, untreated mental illness, substance use disorders, lack of affordable housing, and economics are all factors for the drastic increase of those experiencing homelessness in our country. The Olympics are coming to LA in 2028. What obligation does California have to its citizens and global community to provide homes for our homeless neighbors? The reality is that significant events often serve as catalysts, drawing attention to the urgent need for services for those experiencing homelessness. However, what we have come to realize is that addressing homelessness isn't solely the responsibility of the government. Instead, we truly thrive with a collaborative effort between the private and public sectors. It is about ensuring access to essential services such as mental health support, medical care, case management, career services, and

that daily needs are being met. By fostering partnerships between government agencies, non-profit organizations, businesses, and concerned citizens, we can truly reduce homelessness. Did you discover that many individuals had the burning desire to change their situation? Every person has a unique story and needs individualized attention to change their situation. We have met with hundreds of outstanding nonprofits across the country that are offering this opportunity for change.
What are your goals for the film? We have big goals! Robert Craig Films has a big heart for finding ways to reduce homelessness and we have pledged to give 50% of net proceeds from our five productions (No Address The Movie, American With No Address The Documentary, No Address The Book, No Address The Soundtrack, and No Address Interactive Study Guide) this year to organizations and nonprofits addressing the homeless crisis in their communities. As mentioned, our commitment to portraying the reality of this crisis led to a Documentary and that Documentary led to an Interactive Study Guide that provides solutions for leaders to effect change in their community. Our feature film is accompanied by a soundtrack and a novelization of the script written by Ken Abraham, a 16x New York Times bestselling author. This movie will not only be in theaters this coming fall, but we aim to truly reduce homelessness in America and break the “no address cycle.” https://www.robertcraigfilms .com

Steve’s career has taken a path into Producing, Writing, and of course his staple of acting! His first short film encompassing all these skills is with the film AARON WITH 2 A’S. The film has played in over 57 Film Festivals. It has been nominated over 35 times and has won 10 awards. His latest venture is now in development. He is serving as Producer, Writer, and Lead Actor. The Science Fiction Short Film is called Never Too Late. You have been a successful actor for many years. Share your background. How much time do you have? LoL. It has been 31 years of actual acting from high school on. Of course, there was that 16-year hiatus to get married, divorced and have a son. Throughout my
career, I have often pondered where I really started. I always thought that it was in high school when I did my first play. A oneact called It’s Cold In Them Thar Hills. I remember keeping my head down and then when the applause came… I can’t even describe the feeling. That was when I knew. But then I realized something around age 50. People always said when they were kids, they would tell stories or make believe. I never could associate with that. But I suddenly realized some things. I would always be alone and very depressed, and I would get right up to the front of the TV (we had to actually change channels on the TV), and my mother would always say “Do you want to get in it?” YES, I did. I also would play a game called Step Ball. You would take something called a “Pinky” and hit it against steps outside. Normally, it’s for 2
or more people. But I would play it and make up a whole 9 inning baseball game with play by play of the Baltimore Orioles. I was making up stories. I just didn’t know it. I think that acting and storytelling finds you, you don’t find it. It has saved my life a few times. It defined who I was…and still does. In high school I was noticed for the first time by being characters. In college I majored in it. I went to LA after college, got into The Colony Theater company. They did world class productions, and I was able to play the role of Mr. Tridden in Ray Bradbury World Premiere of Dandelion Wine. Since then, it has been a wonderful journey and has ventured me to a place I never expected, writing, and producing films starting at 65. Of course, I act in those as well.

You are the writer and producer of the short, AARON WITH 2 A’S, which has been nominated over 35 times and has won 10 awards. Tell us about the film. We also were fortunate enough to have been selected by 57 film festivals. First, it is about Aaron Goldman. Or as the logline says, Meet Aaron. He’s starting a 2nd career at age 65… As an actor. What could go wrong? It’s a story about getting out of your own head and stop listening to all the negative voices. It is loosely based on me and really talks about pursuing your dreams and getting out of your own way, no matter how old you are.
This was the first film I ever made. I was the main writer and had 3 other co-writers including Mark Resnik, Montana Rock, and Michael Goldburg. I was also the Executive Producer, Producer along with Randi Sloane, and Lead Actor. Our director, Michael Goldburg, was amazing. He has done several amazing films, including Sure-Fire which I was in, and he is working on the feature. The whole cast and crew had such great chemistry and skill. We have been humbled by some of the reactions. A couple of the comments we received were:
AARON is a beautifully made film… (with a) wonderful cast…fine direction…and a touching quality to the story; every actor has to deal with those elements of rejection. Aaron’s vulnerability and humanity were right there, raw and in front of the camera – Jean-Louis Rodrigue, Master Teacher/Director/Coach to the stars. AARON is a small masterpiece that touches the soul of everyone who dedicates their life to an allconsuming passion – Nelson Farber, Culture Journalist/Filmmaker I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the cast. Starring with me, Pamela Jayne Morgan, who recently was marvelous in the award-winning film The Holdovers starring Paul Giamatti. Mark Resnik, Patrick Michael Valley, Steven St. Pierre, Devi Morgan, Vincent Ticali, Jim O’Hare, and Monique Paulwell. I was so lucky to find these amazing actors.
Why do you think this film is resonating with the hearts and minds of people? This was my baby! It took almost 5 years to get it through Postproduction. It is full of passion. The whole cast and crew felt it. They even stayed with the
Sure Fire Comedy
film when we had to stop the first shoot date in April of 2020 due to covid. We had to wait for a year. No one left. When you get past the cast and crew believing in a film that step 1, I think. When we had the first cast and crew premiere in May of 2022 the people who saw it wanted more of it and were already seeing themselves in the story. But that is like a home field advantage! Unfair. It was our first festival at the Lighthouse International Film Festival where I was overwhelmed. I thought no one could possibly relate to a neurotic character of my age. But then when I turned to leave, there in front of me was the whole audience asking questions and telling me how much they related and were inspired by Aaron’s plight and his desire and heartbreak to finally break through all of the stuff to change.
Then it started happening at the festivals we attended. At first, we thought, well this may only hit older people. That made some sense. But then we went to festivals with younger people from all over the country and they related to.

I can tell you one story, and this is not unique. At a Film Festival in San Antonio, Texas, a young woman in the back row of a filled theater stood up and made a heartfelt comment. I remember I was stuck on her eyes and passion, even from that far away. She said that this had inspired her so much to go after her own dreams. It had made a difference in her own life. That is why we do story telling. To make an impact and possibly save someone’s life. That is the power of the medium.
Your recent project, you are the Producer, Writer, and Lead Actor on the Science Fiction Short Film, Never Too Late. What was your inspiration? My inspiration, and I have thought about this, were from two places. One, I had so many people saying you had to do something else. That inspired me to come up with another story. The second, and it’s funny where things come from, was a Saturday when we went to Tribeca International Film Festival, and Jane Fonda won the Harry Belafonte award for Social Justice. She was being interviewed by Robin Roberts about her work on the environment and Ms. Fonda was so passionate about good trouble and what we should be doing. I was quite taken by that. The same night, ironically, I was trying to get an appointment to fix my IPhone. I knew what the problem was, and it was a simple fix. I just wanted to make an appointment. After going through 3 or 4 screens asking redundant questions, I got a wee bit punchy and started laughing at the technology.
Both events just flooded out when I started to write the film. I thought about where we would be in the near future of 2034. I wrote about someone close to my age. Cliff, who I can say I’m attached to, who is an asthmatic and just like New York when the Canadian wildfires created the terrible air quality forced people to stay inside and thought what if that becomes the norm. So, imagine being a shut-in, your wife has died and the only thing that is a comfort and connection is a virtual AI assistant. You name it after your dead wife and grow attached. But then, it breaks down. Well, that happens to Cliff, and he is connected to a help desk person, Joshua, and after a trust being built Joshua changes the direction of Cliff’s life.
We are doing great. We already have 102 contributors and are 22% funded. But we need more contributors to make pledges, so that we can see this important film get fully funded. We have some incredible PERKS. And a couple of more custom-made ones will be coming soon. But the real reason is that this is a passionate film that will connect with people about the need for human connection in the future and maybe will make a difference in their lives. Thank you to all our supporters and contributors thus far!!! You are all amazing.
What is next for you? OH… and there is a huge twist in the end…shhh…can’t tell you. A huge thank you to Jane Fonda, who has no idea she helped inspire the film. Why is your film timely? Tell us about your Kickstarter and how we can support you! Probably already said, but it speaks to our doubts and fears about a future where the environmental crises cross paths with AI technology and desire for real human connection. Or are we content with life becoming an endless AI video game? The link to the kickstarter site is >>> www.thenevertoolate.com Go find out more about the film. Also, follow us on FB and Instagram at @nevertoolateafilm We are still in the middle of our Kickstarter as I am writing this.

I am so engrossed in this film that I haven’t thought too much about that. I am writing the feature of Aaron With 2 A’s. We are definitely looking for distribution for Aaron! If you are a distributor we need to talk. After we shoot Never Too Late and go through Postproduction. A festival run will occur, and I will at some point start on the feature to Never Too Late, and of course keep auditioning. Doing your own work in the entertainment world today is essential and I would recommend it to any actor. Feb 12, 2024 Following last month's Oscar nominations announcement and ahead of next month's Oscars ceremony, the nominees gathered for a luncheon. "I hope you've each taken time over the past few weeks to reflect on your achievements and absorb the feeling of being a part of this esteemed class of filmmakers. It might sound cliché, but it's true: To receive a nomination is an honor of the highest order, particularly because you were nominated by your distinguished peers." She continued, "This year, ballots were cast by Academy members around the world — from 93 countries, to be exact — and when I look around this ballroom, I can see how much that has contributed to such an incredibly talented global roster of nominees." #1 Best-Selling Kentucky Romance Author, de de to Release A BRIDLED AFFAIR .... When Love is a Gamble Just Before the Kentucky Derby By Jules Lavallee
de de began pursuing her dream of becoming a romance author at the age of 30. Born and raised on the farm in Rooster Run, Kentucky, de de was raised on the core values of the 3Cs (kindness, caring, and compassion). Throughout her young adulthood, de de volunteered in the community with her family, and specifically, her grandmother, Bea. Growing up in the country, romance novels were her escape to another world. de de knew that one day, her dream of writing a romance novel would come true. Fast forward to 2018, when de de picked the book back up that she had begun in her early 30s. As in life, circumstances and direction change the course, BUT never the ending goal. Learning the industry and working with her publisher, Beyond Global Publishing, God opened many doors and many connections, and de de has never looked back. de de became a published Kentucky romance author in 2018. She is the #1 best-selling Kentucky romance author of the Two Degrees Series, which features her son, Bo, as the male model. Little did de de know that her child would become the next FabiBo.
She has now completed twelve (12) romance books and lucky #13 is ready to debut. A Bridled Affair – When Love is a Gamble debuts April 13, 2024 (just in time for the 150th Kentucky Derby). de de has served as a board member of The Dream Factory of Louisville, KY, Opal’s Dream Foundation, Spalding University – Athletic Board, as well as volunteered with other charitable entities. de de received the coveted 2018 Spirit of Louisville Foundation - WLKY Bell Award for her volunteerism within her community and now serves on the board as trustee. She is active within the pageant industry. She is the co-director of the Miss Hillview, Miss Buttermilk, Miss Bullitt Blast Festival and Miss Rolling Fork Iron Horse Festival prelims (Kentucky State Festival).
de de, tell us about the day that you went from being a Romance Junkie to #1 BestSelling Kentucky Romance Author. Growing up as a teenager in the 70s, we had Harlequin and Silhouette romance which I read every day. Of course, we also had the Hardy Boys.
Every time going into the TG&Y or Grant's, I would wind up in the book aisle. You would see the new pics on the covers of the books and then you would flip to the back and read the back and then open the book up for "that" teaser that would grab your attention. It took me a while because of college / jobs / marriage and then finally our children. I put everything on the back burner to raise our family. AND THEN IT HAPPENED. I just made the decision to go back and search where I had placed the very first book I had written. I had never finished it, but I placed my scribblings and notes in my hope chest. I opened my hope chest and amongst all my memories and special collectibles, there it was. In my own handwriting. It was in cursive, which as you know is no longer used nor taught. At that moment, all I could do was look at it. I did not know if the pages were frayed or torn because it was quite old. In that hope chest, my dreams had been kept hidden and safe. All I had to do was remove it from the security of the hope chest. And I did exactly that. I was published at the beautiful mature age of 56.
Model Scooter Ray Minyard
Romance Author www.dedecox.weebly.com www.kentuckyromanceauthor. com
A Bridled Affair – When Love is a Gamble will debut April 13, 2024, just in time for the 150th Kentucky Derby.
This story actually is based on my male cover model's upbringing and his dad. The male cover model, Scooter Ray Minyard, who portrays my hero / Callan Duncan was raised at the racetrack. His dad would take him to the restaurant where we actually did our photoshoot / Wagner's Pharmacy. This is the restaurant where Secretariat was filmed. The infamous scene where Penny, the trainer and the jockey are having breakfast, and the secretary comes through those doors to tell Penny that her father has passed. The connections are what I called GODwinks. Wagner's Pharmacy owner and crew were unbelievable. All so kind. All excited. What makes your stories a success?
The story line relates so much to what I grew up on - my grandpa and grandma had such an influence on my life. The model exemplifies what I believe in FAMILY. F - family A - always M - means I - I L - love Y - you. My grandma taught me that acronym.
The model, Scooter Ray Minyard, will tell all that will listen that he is a product of two loving people, his parents, who shared so much to so many. I first knew of Scooter through the fashion show industry. Every year, he would produce a Derby fashion show at the Kentucky Derby Museum. I had the opportunity to attend one of his last fashion shows. His mother would sit in the front row of ALL his fashion shows. At the end when the thank yous and congratulations would come, Scooter would step off the stage and kneel down in front of his mother and hug her. He could not bring her to the stage, because she had cancer. She passed not too long after this fashion show. In that one moment, my eyes teared up and I knew he needed to be a part of my life. The book talks about the relationship of a father and son (this is where Scooter comes in as the character, the son, Callan Duncan) in the horse racing industry. What I did not know before this book and photoshoot was that Scooter and his father truly visited the racetrack. When we did the photoshoot, you could feel the nostalgia as Scooter told the production crew stories of his father and him. Stories are meant to be told and this is how I can tell a small part of the relationship between Scooter and his father –
through this book called A BRIDLED AFFAIR .... When Love is a Gamble. We are approaching Women’s History Month, what do you want to say to new women writers? The first piece of advice I would give is you are never too old to DO ANYTHING. Look at me. I've had to hustle to bring attention to myself because I am more mature and because I am a late bloomer. All that means is that I may be a bit wiser, a few more wrinkles but I am still me. I still love romance and no matter what anyone else would say about it's too late, I just kept on walking and kept on writing. GOD has too many blessings for us. We should never doubt that HE wants us to be happy and to see us succeed (even if no one does). I live and breathe, and practice Acts 20:35. It’s better to give than to receive. I know that GOD blesses me to give back so others can receive. I'm prayerful that folk see this when they meet me or read about me. One more thing. Sometimes it's okay to walk alone and if you think about it, you are never alone. HE's right there (in front / beside / behind). HE knows the desires of our heart. And one last thing, where there's a will, there's a way, there's GOD. I'm living proof IT'S NEVER TOO LATE!!!
Thank you - de de Cox / Acts 20:35 Romance Author www.dedecox.weebly.com www.kentuckyromanceauthor.com

How was your transition from childhood to adulthood and what are the bad and good things you remember? My parents’ divorce was pretty rough on me, but I took the opportunity to persevere and never give up on my dreams. I was taught by both of my parents to never quit no matter how hard life gets.
What hardships have you gone through in life? One of the hardest things I went through in my life was when my grandfather died of brain cancer. He was such a positive force in my life and always encouraged me on my path as an actor. What do people usually not know about you?
People are often surprised when I tell them that I am a published author. I think people are baffled at what I have been able to accomplish by always driving myself forward. Getting published is no small feat but you can do it if you are disciplined and apply yourself. What sets you apart from your
competitors in the industry and in life? What sets me apart is my ability to disappear into a character and my comic timing when I am acting, and my gift of storytelling as a writer. What are your upcoming major events - Unforgettable Moments or products/services that you want to promote/inform?
I am in the midst of a national college book tour with Barnes and Nobles with my book 'Sinister City’. You can locate all the book signing times and locations through my website and also purchase my book, 'Sinister City' My next book signings will be on October 14th at the Burbank Media Center and October 21st in Chino Hills. I would say I love all food, but my faves are probably sushi and Italian. I am told my best physical attributes are my crazy eyebrows and my blue eyes. What expert advice would you like to give? I get asked a lot how to keep going when you are unmotivated. I also answer them with this, "Do it for the bright eyed twelve-yearold that never expected you to make it this far. enjoyed playing the game across approximately 16 years. My son participated in Challenger Little League when he was young. I have followed Challenger ever since then. I make it a point to watch the Challenger Exhibition game, played in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, during the Little League World Series. When my son played, there was a young man, maybe the age of 13, on one of the teams. He was affected by Cerebral Palsy. When he ran to first base after hitting a pitched ball - he would fall on the basepath. He would rise as quickly as he could and then keep on going. As he advanced to the other bases he would fall once or twice again. Only to rise and keep on until he made it to home plate. In the winter months - he helped behind the counter of the health club I was a member of. He was always wearing his team jersey sometimes he was in his full uniform. I will never forget seeing the love of the game that he had, the love of his team, and the spirit to never give up and never let something get him down. In the 2023 Challenger Exhibition game played by teams from NY and CA. There was a batter in a wheelchair - he clutched the bat properly and- had a favorite stuffed animal there with him also clutching the bat. I love Challenger Little League and all the players, coaches, helpers, and parents associated with making Challenger happen.
Can you share a favorite memory of baseball and friendship?
I have many fond memories of playing the game of baseball and especially just being a part of a team with a goal to pursue. One memory that is very close to me is one I get to share occasionally with old teammates and competitors. When we were young (ages 9ish to 13ish) - we gathered daily in the summer at a local playground (Loring Field) where the Recreation Dept ran activities. We had a baseball team that played against teams from 3 other playgrounds in town. On days where we did not have a scheduled game - we would play from morning to night with only a quick break to go home for lunch.
When we gather now - we kid each other about the 60+ inning games we played (without any adults involved) and the games only ending as we needed to get home for dinner and attend to assigned chores. We all greatly miss those days. And - unless she was a Team Captain that day Nancy D. would always be the first pick when we made up teams - she was the best hitting outfielder you could have. We played co-ed in baseball and touch football - just you try to catch Marcia B. when she caught a football while on a down-and-out pass route and then turned up field and headed for the end zone.

As a Christian Life Coach in Evangelism and Exhortation, how are you helping others today?
When I am wearing the hat of a Christian Life Coach I specialize in Evangelism and Exhortation, my mission is to ignite the flames of faith and empower individuals to embrace their spiritual journey with courage and conviction. I encourage others as they navigate life's twists and turns, offering guidance with biblical wisdom and divine inspiration. I take the opportunity to uplift and encourage and we explore God's love and grace, uncovering hidden strengths and unlocking the full potential that lies within.
My goal is to equip and empower
individuals to live boldly and authentically as passionate followers of Christ. By instilling a deep sense of purpose and unwavering confidence in God's plan, I strive to help others transform their lives and impact the world around them for the greater glory of His name. In this area I encourage living the authentic life and embracing spiritual intellect. Is it really about mind over matter? In my experience, adopting a "mind over matter" approach has been instrumental in navigating difficult situations. Rather than allowing setbacks to overwhelm me, I focus on maintaining a positive outlook and channeling my energy into finding solutions.
This mindset empowers me to push through obstacles with resilience and determination. By prioritizing mental strength and perseverance, I've learned that I can overcome even the toughest of challenges. Whether it's overcoming personal setbacks or tackling professional hurdles, I approach each situation with the belief that my mindset plays a crucial role in shaping the outcome.
Ultimately, "mind over matter" reminds us that while we may not always have control over external circumstances, we have the power to control our response to them. It's about tapping into our inner strength and resilience to rise above adversity and emerge stronger on the other side.
What challenges have you faced in your success? One of the biggest challenges I've faced on my road to success has been my own mindset. It's funny how we can be our own worst critics. There were times when I really wanted to take my business to the next level, but I found myself held back by fears of failing, worries about not getting enough exposure, and doubts about whether I had enough support. When I first started out, I was constantly seeking validation from others. I relied heavily on their opinions and support to reassure me that I was doing something worthwhile. But I've come to realize that having the right mindset is like laying a strong foundation. Without it, everything feels shaky. I've learned that hard work definitely pays off, but it all starts with believing in yourself and what you're doing. Overcoming these mindset barriers has been crucial for me. It's taught me that confidence, self-belief, and staying true to your vision are what really drive success.
Tell us about "Pretty Ugly: Strategies to Developing Your Mindset & Discovering the Beauty Within" and "Self-Love Guide: Affirmations and Strategies to Embracing the Essence of You. "Pretty Ugly: Strategies to Developing Your Mindset & Discovering the Beauty Within" is more than just a book—it's a journey into self-love. It sheds light on the importance of
nurturing what truly matters: embracing the beauty within us. While society often emphasizes physical appearance, this book reminds us to also cherish our intellect, spirituality, confidence, and self-worth. It's a call to embrace our inner beauty alongside our outer appearance.
about Mind over Matter: Embracing Life After Illness
Similarly, "The Self-Love Guide: Affirmations and Strategies to Embracing the Essence of You" serves as a valuable tool for selfdiscovery. Through affirmations, journaling, and practical strategies, it encourages readers to appreciate their unique essence and cultivate a deep sense of self-love. This guide empowers individuals to embrace their authenticity and celebrate the richness of their inner being.
What lies ahead for me is a continued pursuit of success. Having contributed to several anthologies, three of which became Amazon best sellers, it's clear that writing runs in my veins. As an empowerment strategist, I'm dedicated to guiding professional women through every stage of their entrepreneurial journey— whether they're just beginning, seeking growth, or simply contemplating entrepreneurship.

L a S ha na H ick s , Entrepreneur and Owner of BreakingBarriers757 By Jules Lavallee
LaShana Hicks is an entrepreneur and owner of BreakingBarriers757. She is married to Ferlando Hicks, and is a mother of 3 children: Jahmari, Ayani, Briana, and a family dog (Kudo). She has been a resident of Virginia all her life. Since she was a child, she has always tried to help anyone within her reach. “Being in Church taught me how to serve; not just serve God but people as well. As time progressed and I became older, I took on jobs that I knew would help me be able to serve people. Every job I had from the age of 17 to 27, was managing fast food restaurants such as Burger King and McDonalds. I was grateful for the opportunity to be able to have that experience, but I knew that this is not where I wanted to be my entire life. My passion is to work in the community and help underprivileged children was something I needed to get back to nurturing. I needed to continue volunteering in the community helping where I saw a need. I had become a Community Activist, Mentor, Motivational Speaker, yet I knew I had to take it a step further and pursue my assignment. In 2021, I became the owner of Breaking Barriers757, as well as establishing an LLC.” Shortly after starting my own business, I was also offered a position as The Area Director of Young life in the City of Chesapeake, Virginia. The mission of this role is to work with teen moms, assisting them with resources, and helping them on their journey with being a parent. It also consists of teaching them biblical principles and helping them develop a relationship with Christ. It has been a privilege and honor to have assisted The Commonwealth Attorney office of Chesapeake Virginia alongside Matthew R. Hamel, with their 'Step Up to the Plate community initiative. Breaking Barriers also has been recognized by Mayor
Richard W. West, Mayor of Chesapeake Virginia for participating in the Campostella Community Day focusing on Mental Health. I am an Amazon Best seller for the book Injustice that I am a coauthor in.
Currently I am advocating for my brother who has been incarcerated for 26 years serving 85 years for robbery. I have the second rally scheduled for May 25th in Chesapeake Va. It is very important to address the issues that cause people of color injustice due to the lack of resources, financial support, and trauma in the home. As long as I have breath in my body, I will fight for what is right and for the people that don’t have a voice for themselves. What led you to entrepreneurship? My desire to create a change that had to happen in my region that I knew I had to start is what led me to entrepreneurship also, God was tugging at me telling me to step out on faith and trust him to birth BreakingBarriers757. I did it scared; I was very afraid of failure. I was afraid of being looked down on because I stayed in low-income housing. The light bulb went off and I heard a voice say Be scared if you don’t do it. Whew that did it for me.
I come from a big family and seeing my mom struggle to make ends meet and to get us the essentials that we needed for survival when I was a child is what motivated me to want something different and also I knew I was supposed to serve my community and to give something that was lacking among individuals and families. I also knew that some of the ideas that God had given me
couldn’t be executed unless I stepped out on faith and started my business. It was like being pregnant full term and you know it’s time to go into the birthing room to deliver your baby. I started BreakingBarriers757 in the beginning of Covid and I noticed that the children that stay in my neighborhood really didn’t have anywhere to go or nothing to do so, I remember sitting on the porch with my husband and my daughter and us having a conversation just asking what can we do to give these kids something fun to do and somewhere safe to go? I wanted to be able to offer resources to family and my husband and daughter Ayani helped come up with the name and we just sat on the porch and my husband looked at me. he said breaking barriers I was like wow that’s it that’s it breaking barriers so that’s really why I started breaking barriers but when I dug deeper into the name I know that myself and my husband has come from some traumatic past and I know that you know we want to be able to break generational curse That came from my family and the best way to deal with that is to the best way to overcome that to deal with the hard things to bring the surface. The things that have hurt you harm you or maybe just kept me feeling better for years, and I found it to be really Peaceful is really peaceful is times where is not so great when family lose their loved ones when I know families don’t have anything to eat at night and I know someone staying outside in the cold and don’t have a home those times I don’t like but to be able to reunite families to be able to feed the homeless Poor these youth talk to families and get them on the track of how to communicate effectively and in a healthy manner that is really what started my business.

Also, we go to churches and conferences to discuss how BreakingBarriers can assist. Field Trips, Team Building activities, learning morals through interactive activities are some of our key points we focus on. You are a Community Activist, Mentor, and Motivational Speaker. Share your experience.
As a speaker I talk about the hard stuff that individuals and families hide from. Trauma from Molestation, Domestic Violence, Gang Violence, Community Engagement, Building your selfesteem are just a few of the key topics that I discuss. Fear of judgment is one of the biggest reasons why people choose not to change. I feel that when I speak about what has affected me or my family directly is what I can share and bring transparency and I discuss how healing took place in my life. As an overcomer of Trauma, Violence, Abandonment, Drugs, I know that I can’t be selfish with my healing. I have to share my story in hope of helping someone that is on the verge of Giving up. I will continue to be a voice to the voiceless and bring hope to the one that doesn’t see
no way out. You are advocating for your brother who has been incarcerated for 26 years, serving 85 years for robbery. Tell us about your brother and the rally you have planned.
My brother Rudolph Turner is incarcerated in Buckingham Correctional Center. Rudolph has been incarcerated for 26 years and sentenced to 85 years for robbery. When Rudolph was in his early twenties his life took a spiral downward. Rudolph was a college student that attended St Augustine College in Raleigh, North Carolina. He is the father of 2 boys, and he had just been laid off from his job, and also was still grieving from the loss of our brother Anthony Turner at the age of 15 due to a drowning incident in Ryder Inlet during Hurricane Emily on August 31, 1993. Rudolph turned to drugs after he was laid off from hospital job and that led him to robbery. Rudolph was hurting mentally and drained physically with no mental health or substance abuse intervention. The pain that he was feeling he tried to numb it and mask the pain and the cry for help was faint and unnoticed. When it was time to sentence Rudolph, the judge felt that he didn’t belong in society and gave him a life sentence. It was like he was saying Lock him up and throw away the key. Never did Rudolph harm anyone, point a gun at anyone, or fired the gun. As years went by with Rudolph being incarcerated, he has maintained employment as a sheet metal worker, also is currently enrolled in UVA Darden School for business where he is currently passing all classes and he is also a mentor for a group in prison called Bridging the Gap. Once Rudolph is released, he will be opening his own carpet Cleaning Business and also, he has a passion to work with At Risk Youth in the
community. A clemency was put in 2 years ago and we have faith that the right person will intervene and object to the time given to Rudolph. On February 3rd, 2024, I alongside Andre Leaphart who is also an activist and a Pastor conducted the 1st rally for Rudolph in Hampton Va. The next rally is scheduled for May 25th in Chesapeake Virginia. The rally is to share with the community, the media, the victims, and the justice system that Rudolph deserves a second chance. The Lord showed me in a deal with Jay my brother was home from prison and for me this is confirmation. So many times, I advocate for people you barely know or have never met and I prayed and asked God to show me a sign that the time was now, and the sign was shown to me. What is your mission in 2024? My mission personally is to continue to walk in boldness and speak up about issues that used to make me uncomfortable, and shameful. I will travel and see the world, a much-needed plan; I have never had vacation. Lol. Never have I had a vacation. So, the time to relax and reset is approaching for me. Professionally I would love to travel to different states to talk about Breakingbarriers757 and why I got started and give some pointers on how to engage effectively with youth. Also, I would like to be able to go to detention centers and jails and prisons to talk to individuals about changing their mindset and to talk about the trauma that led them to incarceration. I also would like to get a few investors that believe in the vision that I have and want to help me execute the plan. LaShana Hicks @Breakingbarriers757

Dr. Iris Wright’s “Home Care Around The Globe Volume I” Creating A Massive National Buzz By Jules Lavallee
As a prolific co-author and visionary, Iris has contributed to various anthologies, including Words of Wisdom for the Heart and Soul Volume II (Best-Seller), What Is Fearless Living, Girl Don’t Count Yourself Out (Mothers Edition) among others, Iris is the visionary behind her Best-Seller anthology, Injustice, and has authored her solo books, Injustice My Story; with Evolving From The Storm. Iris Wright is a dynamic serial entrepreneur, renowned as the owner of several successful ventures, including Caring Hearts Telecare, Caring Hearts Birthing Services, Caring Hearts Foundation, Caring Hearts Telecoach, Wrights Virtual Services, Wrights Holdings, Author Iris Wright, and Real Talk with Iris.
From an early age, Iris exhibited a passion for helping people, setting the stage for her entrepreneurial journey. After managing restaurants for a decade and exploring various positions, Iris found her calling in the healthcare field at the age of 28. However, it wasn’t until early 2019, inspired by Steve Harvey’s book Jump, that she took the leap into entrepreneurship, establishing Wrights Virtual Services. In January 2021, her dream materialized with the opening of Caring Hearts Senior Living. Although temporarily closed due to staffing shortages, Medicaid challenges, and the impact of COVID-19, the Virtual and Hybrid Home Care Services, Caring Hearts Telecare, was successfully launched in July 2022. Notably, the latter was nominated for the Best Home Care of the Year 2023 in Newport News, VA.
In 2022, Iris shared her insights at an online seminar with Leading Age about the innovative use of Telehealth in Home Care. Her accomplishments include nominations and awards from ACHI Magazine, Sisters Leaders Award, My Sister's Keeper, Empowered Diva, Emerge Magazine, and more. Iris received the Community Leader Award 2023 from ACHI Magazine, the 2023 Author Allstar, and 20th Top Author of the Year Award. In the same year, she was honored with two Honorary Doctorate degrees in

Healthcare Administration and Business. Transforming A Closed Wound to A Healed Wound set to be released soon. Dr. Wright’s Home Care Around The Globe Volume I will debut at around the same timeframe as Injustice Volume II: Empowered by Dr. Iris Wright, her anthology that is currently in the production’s final stages and is scheduled to debut on March 8.
Share your background as a successful entrepreneur. Owning a home care agency has been a goal of mine for many years. I love taking care of people. In 2019, I quit my job and decided to bet on myself after reading Steve Harvey’s book JUMP. I opened Wrights Virtual Services first. Wrights Virtual Services was created to have multiple streams of income, we did title work, remote call center, travel, and taxes. I worked hard and saved up money to open my Home Care Agency, Caring Hearts Senior Living and we opened in 2020.
I closed ten months later to restructure. In 2022, We reopened our Home Care Agency, Caring Hearts Telecare I innovated our agency and decided to only provide private pay services. It was the best decision that I have made for my company.

I then opened our Caring Hearts Foundation so we can help lower income families who need resources and home care services. Since I have become an entrepreneur, my life has changed. I can be present with my children and husband, I have been able to travel, and I have been able to build multiple businesses. In 2023, I started my journey as an author and speaker, and I have been able to help other women find their voices. This was not planned, it just happened, and it gave me more purpose. In 2023, my Home Care Agency won Home Care Agency of the Year, I won Phenomenal Women of the Year, Diva Award and Community Leader of the Year. It is important to me that everything that I do has a purpose and is helping the people in my community. What has owning a home care agency taught you? Owning a Home Care Agency allowed me to walk in my purpose. It is a business that I believe you must really have a love to do. I have learned how to overcome challenges in business. When I first originally opened, I had planned to start private pay and later take insurances like Medicaid. Well in the State of Virginia the Medicaid rate was only 14.31, the insurance companies do not like to pay out on time and sometimes it would take months to pay us. It was hard to pay our staff more than minimum wage. I had to take my heart out for a moment and make an important business decision if I wanted to grow my company the way I wanted it. I decided to close and restructure. Today, I can pay my staff more money,
make a good profit, and I am still able to help the people in my community. We no longer accept insurance, but we have other ways to help the community.
How did you overcome trials and now, empower women? At the age of 18 I was facing over 20 years in jail for a crime I did not commit. It took me almost 5 years to get my daughter back. It took me 20 years to figure out how to properly heal. I had wounds that were closed, and I had to understand that I had to heal those old wounds. In 2023, I had to open my wounds and heal them, I had to learn to love myself first and then I started writing. Writing was so healing, and I felt so much relief. I started writing and have not stopped. I then went on Facebook Live and told my story. Now, I help other women and single mothers tell their stories, I help them become authors and speakers. I have just started a group called Ink & Impact. I also have a program starting this summer called, “Teen Mom to Entrepreneur” as well.
Your highly anticipated anthology “Homecare Around the Globe” Volume 1 is on pace to reach Amazon No.1 Bestseller status as March approaches. How does your book serve as a movement?
This book serves as a movement because in the home care business we often believe we are competition. In this business we are all senior servants so it's important that we know how to respect each other. I believe that

we are stronger together than apart. I believe in being the change that I want to see. So, this project we get to learn about each other, we share our journeys, we can also help each other. I believe that we can Empower, Educate, Collaborate, and Innovate together. Most importantly, we are all going to be making money from the same book and project. So, if we can do this, why couldn’t we do this in our communities?
What is the divine message? My divine message is, “We are stronger together than Apart.” We are not competition, and We can Evolve together
Your book, Injustice Volume 2, is a look into seven authors who have been held captive by injustice. Why is this book so important to you? Why is it timely? This book is important to me because of the Injustice that I have experienced. I was 18 years old facing over 20 years in jail. It took me almost 5 years to get my daughter back. When I got my daughter back, she was broken. Injustice not only took a part of me, but it also stopped me from protecting my daughter. When we are faced with Injustice we are often muted. We are surviving but not living. It’s important that we know how powerful our voices really are and use it to help create change. This movement unmutes them and helps them heal and evolve. I do this movement annually and give them an amazing platform to speak. Our events are a celebration. I believe healing and evolving should be celebrated.
Both books will be released on International Women’s Day. What is your mission to women globally? International Women’s Day is the perfect day to launch our book projects. My mission is to empower, educate and evolve. I believe by all of us women standing together we will show POWER!

In Honor of Women’s History Month: The Iconic
Jean Peelen Releases Memoir:
Feisty Gains Popularity Among Millennials By Jules Lavallee
Jean Peelen was born and raised in New Jersey. She flunked out of college, married a minister, and became a mother. Awakened by the Civil Rights Movement, she went to law school at 35 to become a Federal civil rights attorney. Jean wrote policy and enforced laws requiring equal educational opportunity for all students, regardless of a student’s race, gender, or disability. Jean negotiated the first Title IX intercollegiate athletics cases ensuring female athletes receive comparable resources, services, and opportunities. Jean became fascinated with the theories and forms of leadership. This curiosity led to a Federal Reinventing Government award for transforming a traditional workplace into a team-based, high-performing, and highsatisfaction organization. This honor led to her appointment to Chief of Staff of a 20,000-person Federal agency overseeing all U.S.-sponsored international
broadcasting. Retiring at 59, Jean transformed herself into a commercial model and actress. She was featured in two national campaigns for women’s health. After her retirement from modeling, she ran for public office as city commissioner in a small Florida beach town, fighting developers’ intent on destroying paradise. Jean’s third retirement at 82 led her mid-pandemic to write a book about her life: “Feisty: A Memoir in Little Pieces.”
Jean now lives in a tiny house, in a tiny house village, in the mountains of North Carolina. From there she writes, speaks, and leads workshops for those who wish to live an unbounded life. middle-class homes. In the 1950s, the popular TV show was “Leave it to Beaver.” Beaver’s mother June became a primary role model for women’s lives. Women were meant to serve their husbands and their children. This was no accident. In the 1940s, women had been in the workforce replacing men who were at war. In the late ‘40s and early ‘50s, women had to be chased back into the house to make room for returning men. It made sense to spread the doctrine that a woman’s role, her Godgiven job, was to be wife and mother.
This ethic meant my longing for more, to be part of a larger world, to live as I wished, went squarely against the norm. I kept my longings to myself. I made small attempts to strike out. My parents planned for me to attend the local New Jersey teachers’ college. I told them I wanted to become a missionary so they would allow me to enroll at a small church college in the Midwest.
I did not do well in college. High school had been a breeze. I already knew everything that was taught there, but when I hit college, that was no longer true. And I had never learned how to learn. I didn’t know how to study. I pulled out and went home, the first person in the family to go to college and the first to fail at it. I went to work in a factory typing orders for airplane parts.
When the nice young Michigan man I had dated asked me to marry him, I said yes, please yes. One marriage, two children and twelve years later, the civil rights movement, the women’s movement, and the hippy movement hit the world and I reveled in all of it. I divorced, finished college, and went to law school, two children in tow. It was the beginning of my real life, of a life I chose, of a life I still choose. You have always been fascinated with the theories and forms of leadership. Tell us about your appointment to Chief of Staff of a 20,000person Federal agency. When I was a middle-manager in the U.S. Dept. of Education Office for Civil Rights, the big boss asked me to take on a major challenge. The D.C. home office was top heavy with people double checking the work of the ten regional investigative offices. The plan was to either fire 50 D.C. people or to create a new field investigative office from D.C. volunteers. I took the challenge to create a new office.
My first step was to hold a meeting of potential volunteers. I asked them to describe their perfect place to work. The list
that resulted became the bedrock principles of the new office. • Every person will have a window (yes, this was the #1 wish). • Every person will be respected. • The work will be worthy. • The work will be high quality. Based on my commitment to these principles, 53 people signed up to learn entirely new jobs and work in an entirely new way. Within one year, the D.C. Metropolitan regional office won a prestigious Reinventing Government award from VicePresident Al Gore. The honor came to the attention of a man who had just been appointed as Director of the International Broadcasting Bureau, an agency that oversaw all U.S. international broadcasting. The agency was heavily political and perpetually in crisis with parts of the agency at war with other parts. He asked me to be his Chief of Staff, to help revolutionize that workplace. I told him he was crazy to hire me, that it was like asking someone who had run a McDonald’s to now organize feeding the world. He hired me anyway. A great leap of faith. I don’t know whether anything I did there would have been worthy of any award. I do know that the job opened new, international worlds for me, and I am forever grateful.
At 82, during the pandemic you decided to write your story “Feisty: A Memoir in Little Pieces.” What was the catalyst for writing your book? In 2018, I moved to a 400 square foot tiny house in a tiny house

village in the mountains of western North Carolina. While I loved my house, village, and God knows, the mountains, I was quickly frustrated with nothing meaningful to do. I went to the movies, and lunches, and taco Tuesday trivia, but still felt frustrated and purposeless. Then the pandemic hit. Movies, lunches, and tacos went away along with almost all human contact.
When you are alone and need to depend on yourself to maintain at least sanity if not a joyful life, you’d best get really creative. I decided to write about my life. I didn’t know I was writing a book, I just wanted to write about everything in my life that has stayed in my memory all these years. Since I didn’t want to start with “I was born in 1941,” I started listing memories. Memories come in all sizes. Some are huge: births, deaths, tragedies, divorces, lovers. Some are tiny: a story your mother told when you were four, an embarrassing teenage incident, one sentence from a teacher, a chance meeting on a street, a moment in the Grand Canyon. I fell in love with telling the tiny memories – those distinct moments in time that have stayed with me all of my life. There is a reason they have stayed. They raised an emotion, and that emotion has been part of my growth. So, I wrote “Feisty.” Sixty-five tiny moments in time.
Over the next two years, “Feisty” became my occupation. I loved every minute of writing (even the painful editing part) and now I love every minute of sharing my story with others.
Who has inspired you?
It was a man who created a seismic shift in who I was going to be in this world. His name was Alfred Lloyd Tenneson Scott. In 1968, he was the janitor in my minister husband’s all-white church in Mobile Alabama. He had worked there for forty years when he asked for time off to go to the funeral of Martin Luther King Jr. The church was horrified to find out he was the uncle of Coretta Scott King. No one knew his last name in the church. It was the custom at the time to call servants, particularly African American servants by their first names only. The church wanted to fire him as a dangerous agitator. His sheer bravery in his stand for his family in the face of dangerous consequences to him, including the loss of his 40-year job, moved me into commitment and action and determined the course of the next 25 years of my working life and the direction of my entire life. Feisty has become a favorite among Millennials. Why do you think your story is resonating with younger people?
I was shocked to realize that “Feisty” was being enjoyed and handed around by millennial women. I was, after all, writing about old times, old feminists, old attitudes. I thought I was writing for women in their 60s and 70s. But no. The bad old times have come back with a vengeance and viciousness unmatched in this century. The return of racism and sexism has brought all of the old issues up again. Young women today are not only facing all of the old ways in which society disapproved of them before the civil rights movement, they also are facing new challenges unthought of by me and my contemporaries, like living in a time where social media illuminates everyone’s lives and where the continuation of the planet is a real question.
I asked one young woman what it was that appealed to her about “Feisty.” “Ah,” she said. “You were open about the costs of what it takes for a woman to reach for greatness. And you told your story in a way that I could hear it. You were real.” What are some of your favorite topics to speak on in the circuit?
Here are some of my favorite topics to speak on – in no particular order.
Reinvent yourself! Every person should shake up his/her/their life at least every twenty years. Become someone new and different. Contribute in a new and different way. Old women, new roles. Older women can take up new and exciting roles as leaders, teachers, and mentors to young women. Here’s why and how.
The myth of retirement. It does no one any good to retire their bodies, spirits, or minds from creative activities. Retirement, when one goes from work to only leisure is a distinctly American unhealthy habit. I have retired three or four times, but never for real. Live your life fully for all of your years. Write your life. The most effective, least expensive healing therapy is writing about our lives. Why and how to write about your own life.

Folk Rock American Singer/Songwriter Carolee Rainey Newest Release “Hard Times in the Heart” By Jules Lavallee calm and happiness ever since I could remember. You withdrew from the music world to immerse yourself in painting and photography for an extended period. Tell us about that Tim.
A true multi-dimensional artist, Carolee Rainey is a popular folkrock singer/songwriter and a painter. She shares her new release of “Hard Times in the Heart.” The song was recorded in Nashville with musicians from the Emmy Lou Harris band. When did you discover your passion for music?
I’ve felt passionate about music since I was a small child. Listening to records and radio was always something I looked forward to. Music always seemed to give me an inner feeling of
During this time, I was involved with painting and photography. It was more of a reflective time where I used a completely different skill set to create. I was pleased that I was enjoying another medium of expression. My creative process I developed to paint and photograph was very useful when I went back into music. I actually leaned heavily on listening to film soundtracks for inspiration while painting. Somehow when I heard that music it was much easier to focus on contrasting light and shadows. During that creative process I spent so much time analyzing colors and shapes that when I went back into music, I started using that same process for songwriting.

For those who aren’t familiar with the music, what will they notice about you?
I wrote ‘Hard Times In The Heart’ so long ago. I wrote it about a few different themes that were going on at the same time. The usual breakup with the boyfriend, plus living in very sparse quarters very far away from family. Your recent song, “Hard Times in the Heart” is deeply moving. What was your inspiration for the song and what was important for your video? The weather was very important to me for the filming of the video. I was hoping for an interesting weather day, meaning lots of whispy clouds and mystery. I was so relieved when I woke up that morning and went outside. The weather was a perfectly cloudy and mystical day. I wanted the weather to match the mood of the song.

Dominique Benedict O wn e r of B r e a k fa s t A t D om in iq u e ' s Se n s a tion a l Hollywood Blends Honors Hollywood’s Icons By Jules Lavallee
Pre-Covid, Dominique built a career in the arts as a touring content creator and Jill-of-all-trades for musicians. Traveling the country and learning new stories, places, arts, and culture was pure magic for the girl from a town of 2,000. During the pandemic, after being home in small-town Arkansas for months, she got to work building on an idea that had been in mind for a few years at that point - a coffee company.
With a bit of tweaking to serve the current climate, hence the ecommerce focus, and a unique angle, taking an active role in legacy preservation, Dominique single-handedly formulated everything from the brand concept to bag designs and built a priceless partnership with a small woman-owned roastery to pair this stunning concept with a truly quality product.
Her main goal is to create a launching pad for inspiration amongst consumers. My brand is a nod to classic Hollywood – an era of stars that were larger than life. You’ll find that each blend is created to represent a beloved icon – someone who pursued their dreams and built an untouchable legacy. That’s what I find more inspiring than anything, and I hope you do too. Here’s to coffee, movies, legacies, and you. Enjoy! – Dominique B. (Creator +Owner) Breakfast At Dominques is a quintessential place with delectable coffee selections while giving a nod to classic Hollywood. Take us back for your love of Hollywood and what led you to launch Breakfast At Dominques.
I come from a background in the live event industry traveling to document shows, photographing promotional materials and creating artwork for new releases, handling meet and greets... the whole 9 yards. I was absolutely never home and never not working. "Relaxing" wasn't and still isn't in my nature. Breakfast At Dominique's really came from a place of sitting at home when COVID first appeared after just losing all of the work I had booked for the year (The first industry to go!) and watching all of these films... immersing myself in the arts... and getting on my phone to dig deeper and realizing there just aren't many fun ways to learn about these artists and their stories beyond books. I always wanted to do something with my love for coffee, so it seemed like a perfect pair. Our coffee bags feature mini biographies on each legacy on the back of each package along with websites on where to learn more.
A really unique thing we do is continue telling the story of each Icon through the actual coffee and causes most coffees support. For example, with Harold Lloyd, Suzanne Lloyd, Harold's granddaughter, described him to me in her own words and gave keywords that she felt properly represented him in his personal life with her. We took those and landed on a light roasted Peruvian coffee. It's respected and mellow. We went a step further and made sure to incorporate dogs into the mission because Harold was such an intense animal lover. The coffee name is "The Boy's Best Friend" as a play on "Man's Best Friend" and Harold's silent film roles where he was simply "The Boy." A portion of proceeds are donated to a dog rescue that has a special senior program per Suzanne's request when I asked how we can best pay tribute to Harold's legacy.
Tell us about your iconic Hollywood Blends. (How did you choose them?
I carefully curate each legacy who becomes a part of our lineup. I work with these families and estates closely to create an authentic connection between the coffee, the story we aim to tell, and the consumer. Because I am so hands on and involved in every aspect with a firm goal of "inspiration," I don't just create with everyone and anyone. I do believe you can find inspiration in every single being one way or another, but I try to curate our lineup to be true culture shakers, good people, and those who leave the world better off than they found it. The quality of our coffee is insane. I was so incredibly lucky to have gotten our roaster on board with my vision and our goals. She was busy enough without me. I write notes all the time just reminding her how grateful I am for her skill. PS - you're reading that right.
Our coffee is roasted by a woman-owned roastery. That's so incredibly uncommon. Coffee is a predominantly male industry. Breakfast At Dominique's is woman-owned and womanroasted. We are approaching Women’s History Month, who’s legacy would you like to share in March? Joining our lineup of incredible women is the legendary Mamie Van Doren! Mamie is a true trailblazer and has a heart of pure gold. She is in her 90s and living life just the way she wants to, and I am so thankful that she allowed Breakfast At Dominique's to be a small part of her ever-exciting life. If you aren't familiar with her, Mamie Van Doren is an author, actress, singer, performer, and devotee to rescue dogs. Mamie has appeared in over 40
films, both in America and overseas; made countless appearances on television, performed in top night club venues around the world, toured front line fire stations in Vietnam during the war, authored three books and scores of magazine articles.
Mamie was the first woman to perform rock 'n' roll in the movies. She did a film, Teacher’s Pet, opposite Clark Gable, and Doris Day where she sang The Girl Who Invented Rock 'n' Roll. That scene cemented her reputation as a rock pioneer. Even further, Mamie was one of the first feminists in Hollywood. The 1950s were a very prim and proper time in history and Mamie came barreling in with her free spirit and confidence to be 100% herself in a time where it was frowned upon to wear revealing clothing or date around. Mamie is inspiring. Tell us about your friendship with Ava Thompson, Great Niece of Ava Gardner. Ava Thompson is wonderful! She is co-trustee of The Ava Gardner Trust with her daughter, Ava Silver. Our lovely mutual friend, Lora Stocker, introduced us and kind of facilitated the creation of "The Goddess Blend," which is our coffee honoring Ava Gardner. Ava & Ava, both namesake of Ava Gardner, of course, are the best example out there of a family carefully tending to the preservation of a legacy. They handle the Gardner name and image with grace, integrity, and make sure anything they get involved in creating is authentic to who Ava Gardner was. The Trust supports causes Ava cared about in her own life, so you can rest easy knowing any products you buy do some good. I adore the family and had the pleasure of meeting them in person this past October at the annual Ava Gardner Festival in North Carolina, where she was from.
What do you wish someone told you before you launched your brand?
Prepare to be treated like an "out there" dreamer until you prove onlookers wrong. You will be the only one who sees and believes in your vision wholeheartedly until most of the work is done and people can start to see things take shape. Also, please be prepared for strangers to be your biggest cheerleaders! Getting the people already in your life to see what you create as anything other than a "little hobby" will more often than not be a frustrating task. People will gossip, people will judge, people will be people. Let them. What you create can and just may change the world. Share your dreams for 2024. My 2024 dreams... getting out to more in-person events! There is such a shift in the atmosphere when I am able to be present at an event and share about our coffees and goals face to face with people rather than from behind a keyboard. I wish to be a bigger asset to the silent film community as well. Silent film is an artform that needs all hands-on deck to preserve the little amount of those films we have left. There is absolutely nothing better than coming home from a long day filled with noise and talking and having the ability to put on a movie that you can enjoy without being inundated with more noise. 2024 will see us collaborate with a modern-day starlet, Jeri Mae James, as well as honoring the legacy of more stars from our past who deserve to be back into homes inspiring people. You could say I dream of these incredible coffees to each find success. www.hollywoodblends.com

Laurie Towers, native New Yorker has made an indelible mark in her city over years and miles. Her status as publicist and founding her New Masses Media Public Relations firm, is matched by her work as producer and host of the celebrated feminist podcast “She’s Raising The Bar “and the weekly WFMU radio show, “Beneath The Underground'' with its monthly podcast “XXCentric Behavior'' which celebrates women artists exclusively. Based on a book that was halted by the wrath of COVID that was a celebration of women defying stereotypical gravity, in collaboration with photographer Elite Ziegelman, the show's format stays consistent to Towers’ philosophy. “Our mantra, Reinvention Is The New Revolution" has never been needed more now as these trailblazing women give support and hope through shared stories of adversity and conquest. Sadly, sometimes conquest doesn't come in the form we want, but we still accept it. We have to. Onward and upward, and miles to go before we sleep “.....- Laurie Towers
Share your background and what led you to be a successful publicist. Well, I guess you could say marketing and publicity was in my blood. My start at 26 was with a brand I created that became a tour de force in sports massage called “Physical Advantage” that went on to grace the pages of at least 45 magazines from Vogue to New York Magazine, and all those wonderful international ones in between. It was a fabulous run for close to 30 years, and my relationship with the press just made a wonderful introduction to all the other businesses I had been patiently waiting to come to fruition. Tell us about New Masses Media Public Relations firm and the incredible women you support. You know I always jokingly say that a publicist’s job is a marriage of
“carnival barker and cocktail party schmoozer.” It just is about getting people to notice either you or your client in the broad fashion they would benefit from and agree to. Once COVID put a pause on the many projects I was involved in, I decided to breathe life into the public relations firm that my husband and I had on the side, which was New Masses Media. My specific target were women that I had included in my book “XX-Centric Behavior” which celebrated women in all walks of life that defied stereotypical gravity that was a collaboration with photographer Elite Ziegelman.
You the producer and host of the celebrated feminist podcast “She’s Raising The Bar,” What can we find? My most cherished moments were spent on this show, which is still available to rerun on BlogtalkRadio all 10 years’ worth. We covered women in all walks of life and their careers. Trailblazers all, in their own right, and sharing stories that were both inspirational and relatable to our audience. Now looking back it was the work that had the most attainable track to women sharing powerful import, and those needing to hear it .
Tell us about your involvement with the weekly WFMU radio show, “Beneath The Underground” and the monthly show of “XX-Centric Behavior” which celebrates women artists exclusively. As a musician for over 40 years, I still can feel the shadows that most women step into. From condescending behavior to complete dismissal. To this day, as a bass player, if I’m walking on a stage for a sound check I’m immediately asked if I’m a singer, What I do on “XX-Centric Behavior “is that once a month we have a
“girls’ night" in " Just women artists" and celebrate every genre in a glorious 2 hours from 10pm midnight. How is “XX-Centric Behavior a celebration of women defying stereotypical gravity? I think what I like, or hope that we do, is we pull out all the stops. We ask the questions and challenge the societal norms of how women should conduct themselves. I have told my nieces and Goddaughters over the years, the most powerful word you will own in your lifetime is “WHY”. Challenge everything and never be spoken over. Remember the women that did the heavy lifting that came before you. The ones that gave you the right to own property WITHOUT a co-sign from your husband. The fact that you can dress in a fashion without capitulation to a higher male voice. I will tell you a moment that left its imprint on me. My mother had taken my brother and I to church at one point in the mid-60s. My mother was a well-dressed woman who was in the clothing industry, who HAPPENED to be in pants. Dressed to the nines, but in pants. We were turned away and she was shamed into feeling she wasn’t accepted in a house of worship if she didn’t surrender to their dress code. She never returned to the church, and my fight, subconsciously, had begun. What’s next for you? You know the other day someone asked me what I would be doing when I retire. I said this. There is no period at the end of my sentience. My movement is constant and hopefully powerful. I will be in both the nuance and explosion, and there is no place I would rather be.
