The Met's Costume Institute New Online Content Highlights include footage of past Met Galas, the #MetGalaChallenge, and a preview of the upcoming exhibition About Time: Fashion and Duration Each year, The Metropolitan Museum of Art celebrates the opening of The Costume Institute's spring exhibition with The Met Gala on the first Monday in May. This year, with the Museum temporarily closed to support efforts to reduce the spread of the coronavirus, The Met will instead mark the occasion by sharing digital content related to the upcoming exhibition About Time: Fashion and Duration (which will now open in late October) and previous Met Galas, which are the department's primary source of annual funding. The content will be featured on the Museum's website homepage for the week of May 4. A preview of About Time: Fashion and Duration, scheduled to open on October 29, will feature animations of new photography by Nicholas Alan Cope from the exhibition catalog that illustrate a disrupted timeline of 150 years of fashion. An exclusive interview with author Michael Cunningham will accompany an excerpt from a new short story, "Out of Time," which he wrote for the catalog. A reading list of works by the exhibition's "ghost narrator," Virginia Woolf, will include time-related quotations from each work (some of these will also appear in the exhibition). A video featuring iconic moments from the last five Met Galas will also be included in the digital content. On social media, #MetGalaChallenge invites audiences to recreate past Met Gala red carpet looks from home. Participants can enter by photographing themselves in their creations and posting the photos on Instagram with the hashtag #MetGalaChallenge. Billy Porter and Vogue Magazine will choose looks to highlight. Selected looks will be featured on @voguemagazine, @metmuseum, and @metcostumeinstitute Instagram pages. Exhibition Overview Presented in The Met Fifth Avenue's Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Exhibition Hall, the exhibition will feature a timeline of 120 fashions dating from 1870—the year of The Met's founding and the start of a decade that witnessed major developments in the global standardization of time—to the present. The majority of objects in the show will be drawn from The Costume Institute's collection, including major gifts from designers as part of The Met's 2020 Collections Initiative and related to the Museum's 150th-anniversary activities. © Red Silk Carpet June 2020
The timeline will unfold in two adjacent galleries fabricated as enormous clock faces and organized around the principle of 60 minutes of fashion. Each "minute" will feature a pair of garments, with the primary work representing the linear nature of fashion and the secondary work its cyclical character. To illustrate Bergson's concept of duration—in which the past co-exists with the present-each pairing will be connected through shape, motif, material, pattern, technique, or decoration. A black silk faille princess—line dress from the late 1870s, for example, will be paired with an Alexander McQueen "Bumster" skirt from 1995, and a black silk satin dress with enormous leg-o'-mutton sleeves from the mid-1890s will be juxtaposed with a Comme des Garçons deconstructed ensemble from 2004. All of the garments will be black to emphasize their silhouettes and mutually reinforcing associations. The exhibition will conclude with a small selection of garments from 2020 that links the concept of duration to debates about sustainability, traceability, transparency, longevity, collaboration, and other ethical issues pertinent to the next decade of fashion. The exhibition is made possible by Louis Vuitton. Additional support is provided by Condé Nast.

Giordana Varon, a well-known Roman fashion designer, exclusively presented her new Autumn Winter 2021 "Golden Roaring" collection at the "International Fashion Expo" event in Milan, which was held on February 22, 2020, in the Shopping Diva's showroom in Via Monte Napoleone 21. The collection looks like a return to the past. To be precise, we are in that temporal passage that goes from the 1920s to the 1930s, defined as "The Roaring Years," where everything shone with its own light, and the pomp was the master of the house. "Golden Roaring" is a line marked by twelve different garments, but with a Fil Rouge that binds them inextricably: the art of daring. In fact, they show a woman who wants to highlight her prosperity thanks to dizzying necklines, softness, and sumptuousness of her curves. The collection is made up of very light dresses in black and gold-coated chiffon who want to glimpse the ethereal forms of a woman able to leave her mark wherever she goes. The necks on the back are created to play with your body, in an unforgettable "I see, I don't see" that finds its climax in the fabric belt used to outline the high waist of the wearer. The attention to detail is evident from a first glance. Flowing skirts are cut on the bias. The most voluminous details are in the "shoulders - arms" area with puffed and balloon sleeves, but much attention is also given to the use of materials such as sequins and lamé that recall that roaring past and then decayed with the Great Depression. A whirlwind of emotions and memories intertwine in the iconic techniques and colors used. The palette, in fact, is mainly composed of black, gold, and cyclamen. The collection is de fi ned by the designer as "modular" because each woman can play an infinite "mix and match" capable of creating different coordinates suitable for any occasion. Giordana Varon was born in Rome, and it is precisely here that her training in fashion matures. In 2009 she graduated from the Altieri Academy, and in 2011 she decided to deepen her studies in modeling and tailoring at a specialized academy in Viterbo. Over the years, she worked at various important capital style offices in order to train in high fashion, and in March 2018, she opened his Piccolo Atelier in Rome. Participate in several national events, including Florence, Pisa, and Puglia. A river is full of ideas, events, and new collections. What is most striking about Giordana is the love she puts in choosing fabrics and accessories to make the dress and the wearer perfect. Each dress is unique in that it is created in an artisanal and original way, taken from the inspiration of the moment. Very important is her love for embroidery with which she takes care of every detail and that it has been seen how the "constant note" of her collections is: this derives from her experience at some important fashion houses in the workshops dedicated to embroidery including the Maison Gattinoni.

As many of my paintings do, this little piece took on a life all its own. Started out as a simple feeling that had to be exposed, I have no idea at all where the brush will take me. This image pretty much shows how this one started.
Š Red Silk Carpet June 2020
The face is starting to become someone familiar. Perhaps a family member, a friend, or perhaps someone famous. How would she look in different wardrobes, a space girl perhaps, maybe an EMT, deep- sea diver?. Endless choices.
Š Red Silk Carpet June 2020
Let's dress her up a little, and strap on a hog leg for a little visual drama. Bandanas never hurt and enhances the effect. Without the shooter, she looks like someone from San Fernando Valley mid-1970s. They were known as "Valley Girls. Perhaps she is an Undercover cop going to the firing range.
Š Red Silk Carpet June 2020
Here is something I rarely do. Dress her up Western Style. At this stage, I passed this by a dear family friend, Sue Peterson. Why Sue, firstly she is a genuine Valley Girl from San Fernando Valley mid 70’s, secondly, she is an authentic horse person, with a deep understanding of the culture. She owns several horses on her spread a few miles from our own. Sue said the hat I painted on the girl has got to go because it looks like a pool hustler’s hat. Sue suggested a hat design that she had on her business logo. That’s the hat design shown as an example in this image. © Red Silk Carpet June 2020
Sue’s hat design painted on our girl. By now, I kind of settled on the colors pink and black overall. But I might try different colors before the piece is complete.
Š Red Silk Carpet June 2020
How about a red blouse?
© Red Silk Carpet June 2020
With the blouse red, I’m attempting to develop background colors that would be complimentary. Š Red Silk Carpet June 2020
Further exploring the variety of colors who’s sums exceed their individual values.
Š Red Silk Carpet June 2020
Interesting blouse color, however, its use darkened the overall piece.
Š Red Silk Carpet June 2020
The Darkside beckons. Time to repaint the blouse, in a lighter shade.
Š Red Silk Carpet June 2020
Painted the shooter out of its pink misery. Blouse still too dark.
Š Red Silk Carpet June 2020
At this point I thought I was done, however!
© Red Silk Carpet June 2020
Dropping the hat over the eye gives her an air of mystery and a whole lot of attitude. Little Miss City Slicker has arrived and is on the run to Choctaw Ridge. Or, as my friend, Sue, says, "Uhmmm, I still want her hat to come down towards her ear a little, so she is peeking a little more under the rim, give her more attitude. But then again, She's a City Slickers, and they don't know how to dress western. Hahaha. Other than that, it's great. She actually looks like a true City Slicker and or a "Bond,- 007 " woman. As she was. Fun project, City Slicker is available, email me for details, Ed Morales, email: deselarom@olypen.com
