An Oriental Breeze Blows Over M i l a n Fa s h i o n We e k by Saif Rahman Sozib For its first edition in Milan, the Oriental Fashion Show has joined forces with the Monegasque Chamber of Fashion and Monte Carlo Fashion Week to introduce oriental designers Milan, September 2021.

The Oriental Fashion Show, born from the creative spirit of Hind Joudar, is the first and only international project dedicated to promote oriental haute couture. The show will be hosted by the Milano Moda Donna on September 21 at 5pm, in the sumptuous setting of Palazzo Turati, after a series of fashion shows in Dubai, Marrakech and Istanbul.

The Milan edition of the Oriental Fashion Show was created in collaboration with the Monegasque Chamber of Fashion. During this event, three famous

designers, inspired by and rooted in the rich Oriental culture, will have the opportunity to exhibit their creations in front of an exceptional audience.

The three special guests of the show are Jamal I Taslaq from Palestine, and Zineb Joundy and Wafa Idrissi from Morocco. These designers express the quintessence of an ageold culture in their collections. Their culture is born from the ancient wisdom of craftsmen, embellished by meticulous attention to luxury and glamour, and constitutes a precious heritage that needs to be passed down.

Fascinated by haute couture, the preciousness of fabrics and artisanal know-how since he was a child, Palestinian designer Jamal I Taslaq has chosen Italy and its traditions to bring his © Red Silk Carpet October 2021

excellent signature to life by opening his boutiqueworkshop in Via Veneto in Rome. His refined creations, protagonists of the Alta Roma catwalk shows, express the fusion of the two cultures that impregnate his creativity and have conquered stars and queens all over the world, including Queen Ranya of Jordan.

The most intense and emotional Morocco is celebrated in the designs of Zineb Joundy, the cosmopolitan Moroccan designer whose style has evolved in the shadow of two exceptional mentors, Karl Lagerfeld and Lanvin. Her collections orbit around the caftan, a classic garment open to new luxurious variations and rich in colors and fascination. She seeks to preserve and revisit the traditional heritage of this iconic garment.

The beautiful and rebellious Wafa Idrissi innovates the caftan while remaining true to the art and tradition of Moroccan craftsmanship.

The Moroccan designer interprets the new oriental femininity. Her caftans, designed for young and unconventional women, embrace a free creativity in which her customers recognize themselves as the particular taste for materials, style and elegance originated from their country of origin makes the difference.

The Oriental Fashion Show is a fashion event with a trendsetting approach to fashion, that is aiming to put the diversity of each designer at the center of a global reflection, thus exploring the successful fusion of different identities. The project of this edition is called “Rendez-vous”. It is a genuine crossroads of cultures, a meeting between Eastern and

Western know-how that celebrates a borderless passion for fashion.

The driving force behind this large-scale project is Hind Joudar, a lifelong lover of art, history and culture, who had the brilliant idea of creating the Oriental Fashion Show from a small Parisian event dedicated to the caftan and its variations inspired by Moroccan designers. An event created to pay tribute to the oriental fashion and its designers and honor a real-world heritage that deserves to be promoted through fashion in the most important and representative cities of the world.

The Oriental Fashion Show is the first international event dedicated to Couture and Oriental fashion. It started in Paris, where it was born from a genius idea, and then was spread to 10 countries around the world. The show has

© Red Silk Carpet October 2021

been on for 17 years now, during which it has opened up traditional fashion that has a rich history and contemporary designs to a promising international market through its scouting and promotional activities.

The Oriental Fashion Show has showcased over 150 designers from 50 different countries around the world and remained faithful to its commitment to enhancing the geographical diversity of designers, while respecting their individuality and creativity. For hairstyling and beauty, the oriental fashion show has chosen to work with Patrick and Marcel, two young Parisian talents who own a highly original salon in the prestigious 7th arrondissement of Paris, who are already familiar with fashion shows in general and the oriental fashion show.

‘’Efflorescence” Collection By Omar Mansoor at the LFW Spring/Summer ’22 by Saif Rahman Sozib

Omar Mansoor inaugurated his 17th show at the London Fashion week with his collection, ‘Efflorescence'. The word carries two meanings. It can refer to the action or process of developing and unfolding, as when a seed transforms into a flower. It can also mean a crystalline deposit of salts that can form when water is present in or on concrete walls, in terms of chemistry. The collection revolves around sophisticated shades of light grey and Fuchsia, where grey represents the concrete wall and where fuchsia represents the blooming bougainvillea flowers on the wall.

Grey represents ambivalence and dullness while fuchsia represents confidence, assurance, and vividness. This depicts how one can change the meaning of the same word ‘Efflorescence,’ thus embarking on a new chapter in one's life. A firm believer of sustainability in fashion, Omar Mansoor has used organic cotton accompanied by recycled fabrics, silks, and deadstock polyester fabrics. The latter mentioned consists of discarded fabrics that usually end up as landfill, hence polluting the planet. Omar Mansoor hopes that through his work that incorporates a sustainable aspect in its core, he comes one step

closer to his vision. To be able to spread awareness on the environment, and at the same time, encourage the fashion world to adopt a circular model rather than a linear one, is what fuels and inspires Omar Mansoor. Moving onwards, the collection consists of multifunctional outfits in medium and full lengths. They can be adapted from day wear to evening wear with right accessories. This year, Omar Mansoor's collection was presented physically as well as digitally, at The Royal Horse Guards London Hotel. Photos: Colin Chau Show Production: Top Model

ASEAN Designer’s Showcase at ASPARA FASHION WEEK (Day-1)

On October 7, 2021, the official opening of the VIII season of "ASPARA FASHION WEEK" took place. Fashion Week is one of the main events in the fashion world, during which designers, fashion houses and brands highlight new collections. It is the fashion weeks that set the trends for the current and future seasons. All brands strive to wow audiences with the sheer scale of their shows, the big names of participating supermodels and stars, and the unexpected performances of young talent. So, at our show - as if bright colorful fireworks flashed before our eyes on the

screens of the collection of twentynine designers from eleven countries of Southeast Asia, who in their own way were original, colorful, unique, and exclusive. It is worth starting with the fact that the Asian style really has its own characteristics and differs from the usual Western or European ones. Most of the clothes typical for Asia combine the following details: clear cut lines, adjusted proportions; layering, draperies. So, on the models shown by the collections, one could see how thin, light fabrics made of silk and satin enveloped the figures of fashion models. The silhouette of many models is straight or widening downward.

© Red Silk Carpet October 2021

He often followed the contours of the body but did not fit too tightly. Long, onepiece sleeves, raglan sleeves and batwing are common in many styles; air loop fasteners or wrap around the belt; recognizable prints dragons, irises, butterflies, hieroglyphs ... Thus, the Asian women's outfit exudes a special, without screaming European sexuality, refined eroticism. In general, the men's Asian suit is characterized by comfort and sportiness. Including in relation to color and shades. Without going into details, let us say that juicy, saturated colors play a special role: crimson, pomegranate, gold, sapphire blue, yellow, carrot, purple,

emerald, turquoise, deep black, snow white. Designers from the Philippines and Thailand especially distinguished themselves with their bright, relaxed costumes and noteworthy accessories. An unobvious, but amazingly effective trend - things with draperies, reminiscent of togas and vestments in the paintings of the Mannerist era, will make you a real work of art. A colorful and, at

the same time, exquisite collection of a designer from Thailand, made in various draperies from light, bright and delicate fabrics, distinguished itself. I was impressed by the luxury and grandeur of the collection of wedding dresses from a designer from Vietnam. Corrugated nylon, large flounces, hand embroidery on silk and satin, beautiful headdresses allowed me to enjoy this collection.

© Red Silk Carpet October 2021

In one word, the evening was a success. None of the featured collections disappointed. Pastel colors echoed with bright ones, mini side by side with maxi, light flowing fabrics were complemented by hand embroidery. We should pay tribute to both the courage and talent of the designers. Let us not hide we, like the entire fashionable audience, are delighted with what we saw!

I n a u g u r a l Te n u n F a s h i o n W e e k to Shed Spotlight on S o u t h e a s t A s i a n We a v i n g C o m m u n i t i e s Unprecedented event brought about by collaborative effort to champion regional weaving traditions Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 11 October 2021 – In the serene village of Kampung Pulau Keladi located along the Pahang River, Hajjah Nortipah and her daughter are a part of a small community of weavers, who strive to preserve the heritage of handwoven songket passed down from their ancestors. Similarly, in the central highlands of Vietnam, six ethnic minority groups form a network to preserve the traditional weaving heritage of local communities. Meanwhile, situated in West Sumatra and the volcanic Indonesian island of Lombok are the weavers of ASPPUK - women who are victims of violence and disaster, female heads of families and migrant

workers. While the stories and craft of these communities are unique, they aren’t exclusive to themselves. Like them, hundreds of weaving communities exist throughout Southeast Asia, where textile weaving is traditionally taken up by women, forming a virtually untold but vital part of the region’s traditional fashion, culture and shared heritage. With humble hands, these women meticulously produce intricate fabrics – from exquisite material produced for royal courts to vivid cloths encompassing a tremendous range of imagery, demonstrating considerable technical prowess. Although these beautiful works of art continue to stand the test of time, the women who create them find it hard to survive in modern times. © Red Silk Carpet October 2021

With this stark reality in mind, the Maybank Foundation, through its Women Eco-Weavers programme, has teamed up with the ASEAN Handicraft Promotion and Development Association (AHPADA) and Tanoti – a Malaysian social enterprise dedicated to heritage craft preservation, women empowerment and rural community-building – to create TENUN Fashion Week. Taking on a digital format, the three-day event will be screened online from 15 to 17 October 2021. Celebrating weaving communities in Southeast Asia, TENUN will be the first fashion event of its kind dedicated completely to these handweaves, reimagining their continued relevance by exploring their use in modern fashion.

“It is with great pleasure that Maybank is hosting the TENUN Fashion Week that brings together spectacular fabrics, for the first time, to a live audience. By using fashion to shine a light on the intricacies of the textile traditions, it is our hope that this helps sustain the region’s weaving communities and preserve its rich cultural heritage,” said Maybank Chairman Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Zamzamzairani Mohd Isa. Featuring 45 participating weaving communities from Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam, TENUN will not only be the first event of its kind, but also the largest. The event has even captured the attention of the Malaysian Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Yang

Berhormat Dato’ Sri Nancy Shukri, who herself hails from a lineage of weavers. “Hand-woven textiles are the core of our culture. We need to support our traditional hand weaves because without them, an important part of our people will be lost. The hand weaving industry is a big part of our cultural export. It has the power to feed families, sustain communities and contribute to the national economy,” she said in a recorded message to promote TENUN Fashion Week. Unlike typical fashion events, what makes TENUN truly unique is its particular focus on the creation of handwoven textiles in Southeast Asia, while shining a large spotlight on the participating communities that produce them and their

© Red Silk Carpet October 2021

unique stories. “TENUN is all about showcasing the communities who make the textile that goes into the fashion. We want to showcase Southeast Asia as a center of excellence for textile and innovation, using community-centric methodology to produce woven cloth. A lot of the communities that produce these fabrics do not have adequate resources. They neither have access to markets, nor the funds or necessary support required. What they do have, however, is their unique craft and the amazing stories that go along with them. So, this platform aims to bring them out into the open for all to see, improving their visibility and subsequently, their marketability and profitability,” said Edric Ong, Honorary President of AHPADA.

“We have a truly veritable programme lined up. Besides fashion showcases featuring fabrics handwoven by these communities, we will also have panel discussions, story sessions and even a fireside chat session with a master weaver herself. We invite anyone and everyone even remotely interested in the art, fashion and heritage of handwoven textiles to participate and experience the creations and makers of these fabrics. TENUN truly celebrates the ways of life and means of livelihood of these communities, many of which are set against the most stunning backdrops of Southeast Asia,” he added, highlighting that the digital nature of the event will enable anyone, anywhere to view the event for free

from the event’s website and YouTube channel. By supporting these communities, TENUN will also champion a number of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These include No Poverty (SDG 1), Gender Equality (SDG 5), Reduced Inequalities (SDG 10), Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11) and Responsible Consumption and Production (SDG 12). The event also bolsters ASEAN’s Strategic Plan on Culture and Arts 2016-2025 by facilitating intercultural contact and collaboration, engendering a sense of ownership for the cultural heritage of ASEAN, and leveraging on culture for inclusive and sustainable development. Besides showcasing their creations and getting their stories told, all the 45

participating communities will also compete in three awards – a People’s Choice Award, Lakumas Most Innovative Weaves Award and the TENUN Best Collection Award. The winners in all three categories will each receive cash prizes and six kilograms of Candimas Tencel yarn, sponsored by PT Lakumas, who will also sponsor the cash prize for the Most Innovative Weaves Award. Zhambyl tourism road-show" Visit Taraz" at Milan Fashion Week by Saif Rahman Sozib

Active participation in exhibition activities is becoming a more and more popular marketing tool for promoting tourist offers, creating and strengthening the image on the world market. It is important to remember that achieving a high degree of efficiency from participation in tourist exhibitions is possible only with the competent preparation of a plan for participation in it. On September 27, Milan (Italy) hosted MAD MOOD Fashion Week Milan, which was attended by designers from more

than ten countries worldwide. Kazakh brands ASPARA, TOTY & DANA, LATUHA, RAUSHAN ANUARBEKOVA also took part. Collections of Kazakhstani brands meet the objectives of the Concept of Cultural Policy approved by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the context of the objectives of the Rukhani Zhangyru program for the development and popularization of the historical and cultural heritage of the country, the city of Taraz and the Zhambyl region. Milan, a presentation of the tourism potential of the Zhambyl region and the city of Taraz "Zhambyl Tourism Road - Show "Visit Taraz" was held on the Milan platform with the support of the Tourism Department of the Akimat of Zhambyl region. TARAZ is a city where the past meets the future! The main route of the Great Silk Road through the territory of Kazakhstan ran through the south of the country. From the border of China, trade caravans moved through the cities of Merke, Taraz, Sairam, Yasi, Otrar further to Central Asia, Persia, the Caucasus, and Europe.

All these cities owe their appearance to merchants who, overcoming the vast Kazakh steppes, arranged stops that turned into caravanserais, and those, in turn, into settlements that eventually grew into cities.

UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List, make the region attractive to numerous tourists.

Along with goods, crafts, architecture, culture, and art spread along the Silk Road.

At the presentation in Milan, the Tourism Department of the Akimat of Zhambyl region offered the following tourist products:

One of the largest centers was the city of TARAZ, which at one time was praised by the outstanding poets of the East Khayyam, Hafiz, and Rudaki. The Zhambyl region of Kazakhstan has a deep history: Saka mounds, the valley of ancestors, Turkic sanctuaries, stone balbals, and majestic monuments of ancient architecture. The presence of five state nature reserves and five cultural monuments located on the Great Silk Road, listed in the

In the Book of Wonders of the World, the Venetian traveler Marco Polo mentioned Taraz and the Zhambyl region.

1. Historical and cultural tourism (visiting historical monuments); 2. Archaeological tourism (visiting excavations); 3. Ecological tourism (visiting nature reserves); 4. Gastronomic tourism (traditional cuisine); 5. Ethnic tourism (acquaintance with culture and traditions); 6. Resort tourism (radon springs, mud baths).

The participation of Kazakhstani brands in this event will give an impetus to interaction and facilitate the establishment of contacts, exchange of experience, and presentation of the tourism potential of the region. After all, cultural and humanitarian ties are a connecting bridge between countries. In addition, the show will have a positive impact on the development of the fashion market of our country, will become a large-scale PR campaign of Kazakhstan and the Zhambyl region. The primary purpose of the presentation tour "Zhambyl Tourism Road - Show "Visit Taraz" is to promote the tourism potential of the Zhambyl region and the city of Taraz, strengthen cooperation between states, develop the fashion industry and attract tourists from other countries.

India to Paris: The Journey Continues by Saif Rahman Sozib It is the extension of the collab with French artist Livia Dudouit. The project started last year during lockdown by the support of Alliance Francis de Bengal where designer Abhishek Dutta and visual artist Livia Dudouit collaborated to create a collection with the latter's artwork. The showcase of this collection happened in Kolkata, India early this year and got a standing ovation. This collaboration now taken a step forward where Livia actually did a showcasing at the Paris, Moulin Fidel gallery where the whole project as well as the garments and photographs and the fashion video was showcased. The opening of the

exhibit was on 2nd October in presence of senator Hauts -deSeine, mayor and deputy mayor for culture and will continue till 10th October. This interesting collaboration took the brand to Paris despite all the hurdles from the pandemic. The initial plan was to do a proper runway which had to be sacrificed due to covid restrictions. But we definitely want to take the collaboration ahead for next season and do it in a much bigger way. The craftsmanship for creating this collection was a tedious and lengthy process but the outcome was an amazingly beautiful...and actually accepted globally. This unique collaboration which highlights the architecture of both the countries in terms of

artform builds a bridge also to promote talents from different countries. Livia's quote: This exhibition is very important for me because it is the first time that the project with Abhishek Dutta is presented in France. The public appreciated it very much and found the dress on display very original.

I was lucky enough to be able to talk to the senator of Hauts-deSeine, Mr. Philippe Pemezec, the deputy mayor in charge of culture, Mrs. Béatrice Robin, and the mayor, Mr. Jacques Perrin, who found my graphic motifs and their transpositions onto a collection of clothes very interesting.
