H a r l e y & K a i t i Wa l l e n

Red Silk Carpet magazine had the opportunity to interview Harley Wallen, and his beautiful wife Kaiti Wallen. What do we do in our spare time???… what’s spare time? Kidding, kind of anyway but yes, we are big on family so we’re mostly a family unit with a lot of what we do with young kids ages 7 and 9 but we are both travelers, both appreciate good food, good music, good art and we like to try new things. Hiking has become something we’ve both gotten into, and we both blame Runyon Canyon in Hollywood for that but we’re also happy as beach bums on any given day or on a horseback or a dance floor, we try and live and enjoy life best we can. We got into this business independently of each other, Kaiti was young with an older sister making the decision to get into film and film school and she ended up getting into a few different parts behind

and in front of the camera but after her sister moved away and not much of an independent film scene around Michigan she focused on her education and modeling instead until she met Harley. Harley was a little performer from the getgo with martial arts and break dancing on a high level he found himself on a syndicated TV show in his birth country of Sweden “Solstollarna” and got himself bit by the acting bug and that was the primary reason for his move to the US. As far as favorites I think they tend to vary and there are many inspirations but a few that come to mind for Harley are Robert DeNiro, Charlize Theron, Bill Murray, Denzel Washington, Jody Foster, Al Pacino, and Juliette

Lewis. Some of Kaiti’s biggest influences are Kate Winslet, Nicole Kidman, Natalie Portman, Joaquin Phoenix, Leonardo DiCaprio, Christian Bale, Dustin Hoffman and according to Kaiti no list of actors is complete without Meryl Streep! As far as most interesting character it’s almost like asking for favorite child but some characters that stick out and if given the opportunity, we’d play again are most definitely both of our characters in our TV Series “Tale of Tails” they are both a blast to dig into! Kaiti also would love to sequel “Eternal Code” and play Stephanie again and Harley would pick Zeb from Agramon’s Gate if for no other reason to get a full conclusion of the story.

We have similarities in our processes although they’re not the same nor are they the same for each character and role. Kaiti likes to be aware of her character as it develops and include it in her daily life and ask herself what choices and her character would make and also, she likes to dive into music and mindsets early on. Harley likes to play a lot with his characters and he’s often all over the map trying to find the character just by reading the lines over and over and over until clarity hits. As far as accomplishments that’s a hard question to answer while still in the race especially feeling we just got out of the starting blocks but so far what sticks out to Harley is that the films are standing the test of time. In an instant gratification world with many films disappearing within months after releasing to see our films thrive both domestically and internationally several years later is something I value a lot. We just got word that Betrayed that had sold to over fifty countries around the world and has been dubbed into many

languages was one of the most watched films on Univision’s streaming site Vix in 2021 dubbed in Spanish! For Kaiti it’s the fact that with very modest budgets we’ve been able to put films in theaters and draw audiences not to mention how well they’ve all done at film festivals around the world! As far as festival accolades it’s another hard to answer question but obviously we tend to remember those we attended but a few that come to mind are the Eclipse Awards for Agramon’s Gate, especially for Kaiti since Harley was in LA for an event and she had to accept all the awards that night and of course she says being singled out as Best Actress is always a humbling honor. For Harley it’s not so much what award but he especially loves that our films get so many awards in so many departments and when a film has a great festival run seeing multiple actors and actresses win or get nominated is special and the same when several departments get recognized!

© Red Silk Carpet March 2022

In 10 years, Kaiti says she’d love to be doing exactly what we’re doing right now but it would be fun to see what we could do with a multi-milliondollar budget especially seeing what we’re accomplishing now! Harley agrees completely, it’s pretty incredible to be doing this at all so having some success is pretty incredible! What advice do we have to someone thinking of pursuing acting or filmmaking?

First off if you’re going to do it then Do It! That means you become a student of the craft and the arts and never stop learning - Get an acting coach, get a mentor, go to film school or do it online but pursue your own growth and never stop. But don’t chase it for the wrong reasons because there are easier paths to both money and fame, you need tough skin in this industry but if you do it’s worth it! Shortly after the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences was incorporated in 1927, a dinner was held in the Crystal Ballroom of the Biltmore Hotel in downtown Los Angeles to discuss the goals of the new organization. One of those goals was devising a method to honor outstanding achievements, thus encouraging higher levels of quality in all facets of motion picture production.

Together they discussed the design concept – no live models or sketches were used – and Stanley worked up several versions from which Gibbons selected one. In the finished design, the figure of the knight was streamlined, and the film reel moved beneath its feet. The now iconic statuette was born.

Midwest Film Festival Presents The Best of the Midwest Awards by Guthrie Bonnett A Ta s t e o f C h i c a g o

The Best of the Midwest Awards is the annual capstone event of the Midwest Film Festival and typically entertains a “sold out” crowd. It’s a night of celebration and synergy - connecting people, networking, and focusing on the unique film treasures brought to us by Midwestern filmmakers.

Director Erica Duffy. “I am delighted with the films we programmed in 2021, the audience response, and, of course, the sponsorship that supports our efforts throughout the year. We all know 2021 was difficult, yet the Midwest Film Fest has become stronger, and we have big plans for the year ahead.”

Held Tuesday, February 1, 2022, at CineCity Studios Chicago Chicago IL: Joined us on Tuesday, February 1st at CineCity Chicago for our annual awards gala - Best of the Midwest Awards (BMAs). It will be an evening “to recognize and thank the filmmakers and our community that participates in MFF events, whether it’s inperson, online, or remotely,” said Executive

Starting at 7:00pm, guests were invited to enjoy networking, an open bar, groovy DJ tunes, and lite bites. At 8:00pm join us for an exciting awards ceremony that includes clips from each nominated film, special guests from the community revealing the winners, and filmmakers' acceptance speeches. It will be a special night to

E d r i c O n g ‘ I k a Twe e d ’ C o l l e c t i o n A/W 2022

The latest collection of Edric Ong features the marriage of two distant cultures: the handwoven ‘pua kumbu’ cotton and silk ikat textiles of the Iban os Sarawak, Malaysian Borneo, and the ‘tweed’ handloom woolen textiles of Outer Hebrides islands of Scotland!

This unique fashion of Edric Ong brings together heritage textiles of two cultural textiles that have been recognized by the World Crafts Council and UNESCO! He is very much in the forefront of promoting the unique Iban ‘Pua Kumbu’ ikat textiles in many of his past © Red Silk Carpet March 2022

collections. “We in the tropical climate of Malaysia hardly ever wear wool except when travelling to temperate countries; or a woolen jumper when we are in the Highlands of say Bario of Bakelalan in Sarawak, “said Edric Ong.

He has been intrigued by the Tweed textile ever since he noticed some of his British relatives and friends wear Tweed jackets when the weather is chilly in autumn/winter and in early spring.

These textiles are hand woven on a back strap loom by skilled Iban women in the remote longhouse of Rumah Garie, along the Sungai Kain River of remote Kapit District in Sarawak, Malaysian Borneo.

“They told me that Tweed is distinctly British in identity; and so, I wanted to match this with our distinctly Iban textile of Pua Kumbu!” The Collection includes silk handwoven Iban ‘pua kumbu’ ikat vests worn with classic tweed jackets; tweed/pua kumbu combination of scarfs; asymmetrical handwoven silk skirts with pua kumbu panels; trouser suit for women and long tweed winter overcoat worn with long ikat oriental cut shirts.

They have been awarded the UNESCO and World Crafts Council Award of Excellence and are now much sought after by fashionable people internationally. The textiles were also given the prestigious Japanese “G” mark awards by the Japan Industrial Design Promotion Organization (JIDPO).

Edric Ong is very much in the forefront of promoting the unique Iban ‘Pua Kumbu’ ikat textiles in fashion.

Edric Ong was awarded the “Global Fashion Influencer 2016 at the Asian Fashion Awards and the “Malaysian Designer of the Year 2009” by MercedesBenz/Stylo. In looking for a location for his IkaTweed Collection

to shoot his latest collection, Edric decided on the heritage old Siniawan Bazaar, who was an old gold-mining town. It provided an ambiance of old-world charm and of the pioneering era of the colonial past! He is equally renowned for his fashion accessories e.g., the rattan ‘topi’ tunjang’ pointed hats, and his specially designed necklaces for each collection. He works with local Malaysian craft masters to create interesting hand plaited pandanus pendants, twisted roots, and glass beads; and the rattan pointed bags with tapestryweave slings. Edric Ong is based in Kuching Sarawak who has showcased his collections in Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines, Japan, Korea, India, Bangladesh, USA, UK, and Europe.

Khaoula Régragui "KMD" is inviting us to discover the charms of the Caftan through a great Gala and oriental fashion show in this European metropolis. This ceremonial costume, associated with the most ancestral traditions, is experiencing an unprecedented vogue thanks to the audacious imagination of a new generation of Moroccan designers including this young and ambitious fashion designer.

Khaoula Régragui "KMD" is the worthy representative of Moroccan haute couture. She will charm the public with a new collection of which only she holds the secret. Birth of a Designer whose Originality is matched only by her ambition

Khaoula Régragui "KMD" is a young woman of many talents, perfectly in harmony with her two identities, Moroccan and French. She perfectly combines her two cultures in her work and in her vision of business. She is keen on preserving her Moroccan heritage and creating an economic momentum between France and Morocco. Being an accomplished entrepreneur, her ambition is to create a new fashion house devoted to Haute Couture, which she will unveil at the Gala on February 27, 2022, in Lyon. She moved to France at the age of eleven and settled with her family in Paris. As she was passionate about fashion and beauty, she entered a make-up school where she graduated third of her class. She then started a professional career in the field of makeup and became an ambassador for the famous cosmetics brand "Lancôme". Few years later, she got interested in reviving her passion for fashion and creation, as she was a model for several oriental fashion houses. She decided to learn from Moroccan designers and then created her own workshops where she now works with several © Red Silk Carpet March 2022
