Porsche Celebrates Newest Autobot, “Mirage,” In Transformers: Rise Of The Beasts The new “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts“ film will come to cinemas worldwide in early June. One of the film’s main characters, the Autobot “Mirage”, is a Porsche – an historic 911 Carrera RS 3.8, to be precise.

Starting in June, returning to the action and spectacle that have captured moviegoers around the world, “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts“ will take audiences on a ‘90s globetrotting adventure with the Autobots and introduce a whole new faction of Transformers – the Maximals – to join them as allies in the
existing battle for Earth. The Autobot “Mirage” takes the legendary Porsche 911 Carrera RS 3.8 (964) as its car-form, joining the forces of the Transformers for the battle ahead. “Mirage” fights for the forces of good alongside Optimus Prime. “The 911 Carrera RS 3.8 is perfect not just

because the film plays in 1994, but also because of the character traits of ‘Mirage’”, says Oliver Hoffmann, Head of Marketing Communications at Porsche AG. “He’s a tough character with a good heart and a bit of a rebellious streak now and again.”
Legendary Car Becomes A Film Hero Porsche only ever built 55 units of the Carrera RS 3.8, making it an exceptionally rare historic car. To avoid the risk of damage, no original model was used in filming. Instead, five picture cars were built that look exactly like the 964 on the outside, but which are not actually original Porsche 911 Carrera RS 3.8 models. Yet, to create an authentic engine sound for Mirage, a real 911 RS 3.8 was used so the film could be as accurate as possible.

“It was important to us to represent the sound of the 911 model depicted in the film,” said Ayesha Coker, Vice President of Marketing of Porsche Cars North America. “It was extremely ambitious due to the number of cars needed from a limited production 911, but we are thrilled with the result and hope audiences are too.” Each of the picture cars
fulfills a particular function. One car, for example, was modified to go backward at higher speeds; another was specifically prepared for stunt sequences, yet another one was controlled outside the driver's cab for scenes that focus on the artist inside. “We are thrilled to be working with the Porsche team on this

unprecedented and integrated partnership that brought our Autobot Mirage to life in a most unique, iconic, and unforgettable way showcasing the personality of both bot and car form’s adventurous and heroic spirit,” says Irene Trachtenberg, SVP Worldwide Marketing Partnerships, Paramount.

David Bowie in 1983 'Let's Dance' At 40: How David Bowie's Biggest Album Became His Most Conflicted On his 1983 album 'Let's Dance,' David Bowie wanted to create the decade's defining soundtrack. While incredibly commercially successful, the release left Bowie with mixed feelings. On its 40th anniversary, revisit the album's history and complexities. JON O'BRIEN |GRAMMYS "Fame puts you there where things are hollow," David Bowie sang on his 1975 first U.S. No. 1, a riposte to the superficial nature of celebrity he'd once so desperately craved. The phrase "careful what you
wish for" could equally be applied to 1983's Let's Dance, which later thrust the 19-time GRAMMY nominee into his highest level of stardom.
The triumphant title track was a self-described "postmodern homage" to the Isley Brothers' "Twist and Shout" — its powerful vocal crescendo actually borrows from the Beatles' cover — and reached No. 1 on both sides of the Atlantic, becoming Bowie's default floorfiller in the process. But for an artist always more interested in "nibbling at the periphery of the mainstream" than entering it wholeheartedly, this mainstream success presented a conflict. Bowie's attempt to provide © Red Silk Carpet™ May 2023
the mid-'80s' defining soundtrack arrived after a period of turbulence for the Thin White Duke. He'd left RCA after recording his 11th album for the label, 1980's Scary Monsters (and Super Creeps), suffered the tragic loss of his close friend John Lennon and began a feud with longtime producer Tony Visconti that would last a remarkable two decades. You might have anticipated Let's Dance, therefore, to be something of a somber, soul-searching affair. Yet not for the first, or the last, time in his career, Bowie subverted all expectations. Instead, he delivered a pure party record specifically designed to take residence at the top of the charts.

Appointing Nile Rodgers — the GRAMMYwinning mastermind behind seminal albums by Sister Sledge and Diana Ross, as well as his own outfit, Chic — as producer was the clearest sign Bowie meant business. With the intention of creating a pure "singer's album," Bowie handed over all the instrumental duties to him, too. Rodgers had been looking forward to venturing outside his Studio 54 comfort zone, and was taken aback to discover Bowie wanted more of the same. "I felt a little hurt, like after all of our conversations about music and freedom I was being ordered back to the hitmaking plantation," he wrote in his 2011 memoir Le Freak. Rodgers soon came around to the idea, later telling the Guardian that an album
cover in which a pompadour-sporting, redsuited Little Richard gets into a Cadillac was the starting point. The album was completed in just 17 days at New York City's Power Station studios. Despite its chartunfriendly lyrics ("Visions of swastikas in my head"), the Oriental pop of "China Girl" — a polished reworking of Bowie's contribution to Iggy Pop's 1977 classic The Idiot — added to his Billboard tally. So did opener "Modern Love," a meditation on faith which impressively manages to sound both incredibly effervescent and resolutely nihilistic. "Cat People (Putting Out Fire)," a retooling of his theme to Paul Schrader's samenamed erotic horror, abandons Giorgio Moroder's brooding synthbased atmospherics for

arena rock guitar licks courtesy of a thenrelatively unknown Stevie Ray Vaughan. Fans remain divided as to which version is the definitive. But Let's Dance is a more multifaceted body of work than its singles would suggest. "Criminal World" is a spirited take on the transgressive debut single from new wave outfit Metro (perhaps surprisingly for someone so famously open-minded, Bowie removes the original's bisexual overtones); the 60s-tinged falsetto pop of "Without You" and contemporary art rock of "Ricochet" exemplifies his ability to bridge the gap between the past and the future. Only closer "Shake It," a blatant retread of the album's eponymous smash, foreshadows the creative rut that would follow.
Bowie's profile was further bolstered by his embracing of the burgeoning MTV (while promoting the record, he called out the network for its snubbing of Black artists). Designed to highlight the disparity between Australia's Caucasian and Aboriginal communities, the striking promo for "Let's Dance" found itself in constant rotation, its depiction of an Indigenous couple's daily hardships and clever red shoes metaphor providing both substance and style. The From Here to Eternity-referencing clip for "China Girl" even beat Michael Jackson's blockbuster "Thriller" for Best Male Video at the inaugural VMAs. This wasn't the only awards recognition Let's Dance received, either.
Earlier on in 1984, Bowie earned GRAMMY nominations for Album Of The Year and Best Rock Vocal Performance Male for "Cat People," losing to the King of Pop on both occasions. And then there are the figures. Let's Dance reportedly became new label EMI's fastestselling since the Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's
Lonely Hearts Club Band 16 years earlier, sparking a renewed interest in Bowie's back catalog — at one point he had nine entries in the UK Top 100, suggesting the record was a vital entry point into the far more weird and wonderful treasures lurking within his discography. Its current sales tally stands at

a career best 10.7 million, firmly eclipsing the 7.5 million of closest challenger, 1972's The Rise
and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars. Bowie wanted a juggernaut and he sure got one. Of course, the press reception wasn't always as enthusiastic, with Robert Christgau, one of America's most esteemed music journalists, describing it as "pleasantly pointless" and the New York Times' Debra Rae Cohen arguing it was Bowie's "most artless" record to date. Yet the biggest critic of Let's Dance proved to be the man who made it.
Bowie first started to distance himself from the record in 1987 when he claimed Let's Dance was more Rodgers' vision than his, which the producer has since refuted. A full decade later, Bowie revealed the album's accompanying tour confirmed one of his biggest fears: "I was something I never wanted to be. I was a wellaccepted artist. I had started appealing to people who bought Phil Collins albums."
adding that he'd pandered to the success of Let's Dance and subsequently "put a box around" himself. Reeves Gabrels, guitarist in the Tin Machine group Bowie put together to help restore his creative integrity, could vouch for such despondency, telling Uncut, "[David Bowie] felt he had lost his way after Let's Dance. He didn't like where he was going and wanted to change it, so Tin Machine fell on that grenade."
Even more worryingly, Bowie acknowledged he'd stopped caring about his audience — which perhaps explains the existence of 1984 follow-up Tonight, a surprisingly throwaway record which he'd eventually concede was the nadir of his career. "I really shouldn't have even bothered going into the studio to record it," he told Interview in 1995, also
Bowie's attitude to his commercial heyday appeared to have softened since, however. He even defended Let's Dance in 1997, denying it was mainstream but instead a new hybrid which paired dance beats with bluesrock guitars ("It only seems commercial in hindsight because it sold so many," he said). Its big three singles were staples

of his last major tour, A Reality, in 2004. And although he tried to shift the blame for its populist sound toward Rodgers, Bowie still asked the producer to oversee 1993's Black Tie White Noise, a much more experimental listen.
Perhaps buoyed by Rodgers' increased pop cultural cachet, Let's Dance has also received a critical reevaluation: in 2014, Rolling Stone hailed it as "the conclusion of arguably the greatest 14year run in rock history" while four years later it graced Pitchfork's Best Albums of the 1980s poll.
Let's Dance could never be considered Bowie at his coolest. However, for a man who often thrived on contradiction, it’s perhaps fitting that the record he almost disowned was the one that connected the most.

Official poster – 76th edition © Red Silk Carpet™ May 2023
Côte d’Azur, June 1, 1968. Actress Catherine Deneuve is standing on Pampelonne beach, near Saint-Tropez, for the shooting of La Chamade by Alain Cavalier, adapted from the novel by Françoise Sagan. She plays Lucile, who leads a worldly and superficial life, tinged with ease and a taste for luxury. Her heart beats frantically, hurriedly, passionately. Like the heart of cinema that the Festival de Cannes celebrates every year: its lively and embodied pulse can be heard everywhere. The heart of the 7th Art – of its artists, professionals, amateurs, press – beats like a drum, to the rhythm of the urgency that its eternal nature imposes. The actress of Peau d’Âne is an embodiment of cinema, far from what is conventional or appropriate. Without compromise and always in tune with her convictions, even if it means going against the grain of the times. She is the muse of Jacques Demy, Agnès Varda, Luis Buñuel, François Truffaut, Marco Ferreri, Manoel de Oliveira, André Téchiné, Emmanuelle Bercot or Arnaud Desplechin. Her collaborations are in the pantheon of immense filmmakers of yesterday and today. Catherine is the link between them all. For more than 60 years, the greatest French star has never stopped shooting, reinventing herself, experimenting, daring to do counterintuitive work or first films. An icon who has never stood still and has kept her art alive. Deneuve embodies in her very own way the richness of the cinema that the Festival wants to defend: auteur films but also quality popular films. Four years before 1968, Catherine Deneuve illuminated Jacques Demy’s The Umbrellas of Cherbourg, which won the Palme d’or in 1964. The following year, Repulsion by Roman Polanski won the Silver Bear in Berlin. This was followed by A Matter of Resistance by JeanPaul Rappeneau, The Young Girls of Rochefort by Jacques Demy and Luis Buñuel’s Belle de jour. From then on, hers will be a path of glory, studded with masterpieces and commitments that will shape the portrait of a star as well as that of a woman of convictions. For Catherine Deneuve also co-signed the “Manifesto of the 343” in 1971, demanding the legalization of abortion on one hand and a collective text in 2018 in which a hundred women reject, “puritanism, denunciation and any form of expeditious justice” on the other hand. Catherine Deneuve also starred in Indochine by Régis Wargnier, which remains, to this day, the last French winner, in 1993, of the Oscar for best international film. In 1994, she was Vice President of the Jury headed by Clint Eastwood which awarded the Palme d’or to Pulp Fiction by Quentin Tarantino. In 2000, Dancer in the Dark by Lars von Trier was the second Palme d’or in her filmography. In 2005 she received an Honorary Palme d’or and in 2008, under the presidency of Sean Penn, the Special Prize of the 61st Festival for her entire career. In 2016, Catherine Deneuve was awarded the Prix Lumière which she dedicated “to the farmers”, thus taking everyone by surprise once again. Joyful, bold-faced and romantic, a young woman with long blond hair smiles, confidently, at her future. It is a certain form of magic that Catherine Deneuve embodies – pure, incandescent and sometimes transgressive. It is this unspeakable magic that the 76th International Film Festival conveys with this timeless poster. To reiterate the glorious present of cinema and to envisage its future full of promise. Catherine Deneuve stands for what cinema should never stop being: elusive, daring, irreverent. Something self-evident: a necessity.

1. How did a singer manage to get involved in acting?
We were introduced and he told me about his latest film, “Drafted 2035”.
I was a teen actor and attended the Idylwild Arts Academy in California! I auditioned and had callbacks for big films like “Superbad.” My band was signed in high school, and I took a break from acting to focus on music until 2016.
I auditioned for the role of “Tyler” on the spot and my life was changed forever!
2. How did you meet director Ron Hanson?
I met Ron Hanson through my grandmother one night at The Riverside Casino where he was bartending. He was known as the big film director in Laughlin where most of the movie was shot.
I loved making that movie SO much. It’s now available to stream on Amazon by the way! 4. What genres of music do you produce?
3. What were some memorable experiences you had on the feature movie set Drafted 2035?
I mostly stay in the rock and pop world, but I love all kinds of music!
Making that film was packed with so many of my favorite memories. One day, we showed up at a car lot and they loaned us a brand-new sports car for the film. I asked, “who’s doing the stunts?!” Turns out, it was me! I got to do high speed chases, drone shots with helicopters, big turns in the desert and so many other fun things that day!
5. Where can the world view your music? Any specific platform you would like people to follow? 5.My music is available on Spotify and my website; http://jackswagger.co m

10. How long have you been the lead singer? I have been singing in bands since I was about thirteen! I still love doing it every day! 11. In 2015 it was discovered that your very first song that you wrote in high school called “A Million Things, was used in the official movie trailer called “Barely Lethal” starring Jessica Alba and Samuel L. Jackson all without your permission or notice. As of today, it has 12 MILLION VIEWS ON YOUTUBE, what was the end result of that dispute? What would you want others to learn from your experience? I found out through friends that my song had been used and it was a total shock! I spent about a year contacting the film’s producers and eventually
received compensation. If anyone learns from this, it should be to always stand your ground, don’t give up and eventually you will prevail! 12. What are the top three songs you recommend to a first-time listener? I would say my top three tracks to a first-time listener of my stuff would be “Animal,” “Don’t Go Back” and “Shadows” from my solo album. 13. What is your favorite film genre to cast in? I really enjoy all genres, but lately my favorite has been action films, physical acting is incredibly fun for me! I grew up wrestling and running, so action is very much my style!
14. Who are your top five © Red Silk Carpet™ May 2023
music artists and top five actors? My top five actors would be: James Dean, Jack Nicholson, Ethan Hawke, Michael Biehn and Val Kilmer. My five favorite musical artists would be: The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Nirvana, Green Day, and The Smiths. All great artists who inspire me to do what I do in life! 15. How do you see yourself in 5 years? In 5 years, I see myself making films and recording music at a high level. I work every day to make this happen! 16. Why do you want to be featured in the Red Silk Carpet Magazine? I enjoy the interviews and stories on professionals I look up to in Red Silk Carpet very much! It would be an honor to be featured!
