The Great Outdoors Transforming beer gardens into revenue boosting botanical spaces

concordebgw.com

Why it’s so important to create the perfect outdoor space The increased desire for outdoor drinking has inspired us to help transform beer gardens into botanical spaces and tropical terraces that can raise your venues profile. Gardens which provide the perfect place to meet friends and family or just enjoy a relaxing drink after work can draw in hundreds of customers. We can help Licensees create a timeless space where you can host regular arts or music events or simply provide a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle.

Double Red Duke Bampton

Housed in a 16th-century wisteria-clad coaching inn set among quaint English countryside, this newly renovated property has been created with informal luxury in mind. Inside there is a warren of living and dining spaces including a bright garden room with climbing Jasmine. Outside, it continues - we paved a terrace for alfresco dining, and the garden with a sweeping lawn has ample seating, from secluded 2-seater dining tables to enormous, wooden benches which seat larger groups. Some of the 19 bedrooms open onto the garden for extra tranquillity.

When planning our cocktail bar, Richard Wilson, MD of Concorde BWG said ‘‘trust me and my team to deliver what you want, on time and within budget’’. This was not an easy statement to believe but I am delighted to say it was true. Allison Garner Commercial and HR Director

Ragdale Hall Spa Leicestershire The first sight seen outside through the huge bi-fold windows is just as luxurious as the cocktail lounge itself. The space is versatile, to achieve this, carefully arranged plants and pots of greenery fill it with colour and create pockets of privacy. The new landscaping, including the addition of a bespoke water feature, adds to the sense of restfulness with the calming sound of running water and aromatics from the planting making it a very special place to unwind.

Avon Causeway Dorset The Avon causeway is a traditional pub from the 19th century built as a conversion of the Hurn railway station in Dorset. We carried out a full refurbishment of their decommissioned Pullman train carriage which sits to the side of the terrace at the front of the building. The carriage has been sympathetically converted into an indoor/ outdoor dining area while keeping with our designs inspired by the 20’s deco era. The enclosed, partially-heated beer garden to the rear now benefits from new furniture and decorations.

Iford Manor Café Gardens Brokenhurst

This famous garden has always been popular with tourists and our work redeveloping the old stable area at the manor was to create a café, kitchen and restaurant that will give people another reason to visit. The south-facing terraced garden has many interesting facets to it. The boarders are overflowing with plants that are layered taller plants at the back can climb the walls and smaller ones at the front provide colour and scents. The entire area is edged with rocks and pretty shrubs which soften the landscape and attract wildlife like birds and butterflies. DESIGN | BUILD | FURNISH 7

Pavilion Arms Bournemouth Whether you want to lounge back when there’s not a cloud in the sky or have cocktails under the stars, The Pavilion Arms is one of Butcombe’s most tranquil hangouts in Bournemouth. The covered terrace area to the front of the building is the perfect space for al fresco drinking and dining. Planters and jumbrellas shelter the seating area from the carpark, and furry throws and back rest cushions make the seats extra cosy.

Newly installed bi-fold doors were the perfect solution in improving access to the pub from the garden. The glazed wind barrier to the garden’s perimeter cuts down street noise and wind and gives the terrace real impact and a feeling of exclusivity. Carefully curated outdoor furniture and accessories are nestled under jumberalls with heat lights to provide maximum comfort to those wanting to dine alfresco. A bespoke totem pole and a plush planting installation captures views and creates opportunities for visitors to engage with the garden in new ways.

The Victoria Oxfordshire Situated on the banks of the River Cherwell in Old Marston, The Victoria Arms is a stunning riverside pub and restaurant with mooring available for punts on the River Cherwell. We wanted to create some covered areas, so we built a pergola which has helped to delineate the different zones, while also adding visual interest. Vines and climbing plants were weaved through them to create dappled shade. We washed, fixed, and improved the stone patio then fitted it out with loose furniture. All exposed furniture is built to withstand all weather conditions.

Outdoor bars Constructing an outside bar is sure to be a hit with customers, particularly on very busy days when your indoor bar is packed-full. Having a dedicated summer bar can be the perfect place to provide on-tap ales and beers or for a more contemporary vibe why not make your very own, increasingly popular, gin station. Overall, an outdoor bar could boost revenue, cut the queues, and speed up service, especially at weekends and on warm days, it keeps everyone’s thirst quenched, whilst a carefully chosen snack menu can quickly feed the crowds.

Furniture & Seating Creating plenty of space for alfresco dining using fixed seating booths can attract more customers and will naturally increase the footprint of your pub, bar or restaurant helping improve gross profits. Cabana style huts with fires or on-demand heating allow for a more useable year-round space but can also form an area to host private parties or to seat large groups. Transforming your outdoor area into an oasis for guests by carefully choosing furniture, fixtures and fittings can really pay off.
