The interior has an opulent yet bohemian feel with the décor, furniture and even the building structure all playing an important role in creating its blissful atmosphere.

reupholstered sections of fixed seating were installed and existing furniture was re-painted, re-polished then supplemented with new feature pieces.

Why settle for one when you can have three? The Lazy Pig in the Pantry’s alfresco options comprise of an indoor/outdoor conservatory and beautifully landscaped front and side terraces.

The bar and restaurant span 4,101 square feet, accommodating 212 covers. The bar servery was extended so the The Lazy Pig in the Pantry has no trouble attending to the influx of new customers.

Serving the restaurant is a state-of-the-art kitchen where a josper and pizza oven have been installed.

The style package is a mix of contemporary and traditional framed artworks and bespoke 3D items such as the “Pantry” sign. Fine foliage has filled the large ceiling space in the bar and restaurant and wall plants combined with rustic plant holders create an indoor garden in the conservatory. The extravagant planting scheme adds colour, style and an artistic flourish to different corners of the site.

When the slightest speck of sun glimmers through the conservatory windows you can expect them to be quickly removed, opening up the space to the beautifully landscaped garden.

During the design process 3D visuals of the garden area and conservatory were created to help the client envisage the extension to the main building and the creation of an additional 136 covers.

The exterior of The Lazy Pig in the Pantry has been revamped using feature cladding and a new entrance porch, both of which have increased the sites kerb appeal. The newly built terrace is perfect for summery sun-soaked supping or can be enjoyed in the evening when festoon lighting brightens the night sky whilst you warm yourself by the newly built firepits.

Surrounding the bar, restaurant and snug areas are timber and tiled floors and walls. In areas with prominent features such as fireplaces, low hanging lights or metal screens the walls have been cleverly tiled in a simple side-by-side straight line to not distract from other design features.

Overall the Lazy Pig in the Pantry blends a botanically influenced design with countryside tranquillity. It’s been perfectly transformed from a large dated pub into a premium drinking and dining experience for Revere.

In the dining area timber beams frame tall glass windows allowing natural light to flood the room. At night, the low hanging chandeliers create a warming ambiance for a more formal dinner setting.

Sophie Oldfield Creative Development Director, Concorde BGW Q How long have you worked for Concorde BGW? A Ten years.... for my sins… I was just a young whipper snapper back then.

Q Where do you find inspiration?

A Where don’t I find inspiration would be a much easier question! It sounds a cliché but inspiration is everywhere, my phone is full of sneaky snaps of random bits and bobs, from stitching details I like, to historic doors I’ve wandered past, to a nicely bound menu I’ve ordered from. I love to look back in history for classic inspiration too, recently I found ´an art deco poster with a crazy tile pattern shown, I recreated it on site and it looked amazing. I also feel really inspired when I work with the other designers at Concorde, its great pushing the boundaries of design with a team – so much creativity in one company is a very special thing!

Q How would you describe your signature style?

A Everyone always jokes that my schemes usually have a hint of pink somewhere – however, this is obviously a massive over exaggeration! I don’t actually think I have a signature style – I like to try and make sure all my projects feel different and hit the clients brief without imposing too much of my personal preference on a space… however, some schemes do of course necessitate a bit of pink! I guess my guilty pleasure is always adding a cheeky “poke of colour” to draw the eye! Even if it is just a small piece of fabric piping, or a brightly painted stair riser.

Q What’s your favourite part of FF&E to specify?

A I love layering up the detailed upholstery on chairs and fixed seating, you can really transform a piece of furniture just by adding a pop of colour through buttons and piping or change the feel completely with studding details and different fabric textures – the possibilities are endless and I love to challenge our upholstery team!

Q What’s your favourite tipple?

A A Raspberry Mojito is my favourite, closely followed by a glass of prosecco or a nice cold pint of Stowford Press. Depends on the weather and the mood.

Q What do you love most in life?

A Having a good walk in the country side with my two crazy cocker spaniels Daphne & Flossie and the husband…. There are always a few well earnt pub stops involved! The older the pub the better!

Q If you could pick any song off a juke box what would it be?

A Regulate by Nate Dogg & Warren G. Q What is your favourite saying?

A “Well-behaved women rarely make history” Q Who makes you laugh most?

A My husband Ben – he is ridiculously daft.

Q Which person would you most want to have dinner with…?

A My grandad – he passed away when I was three so it’d be nice to have a catch up with him now I’m a fully fledged “grown up”.

The Bay Horse Hatfield, Doncaster DN7 6RS

Concorde BGW modernised The Bay Horse Inn and propelled it into the 21st Century, creating a refreshed and versatile venue where customers will love to spend their time.

Concorde BGW was the appointed contractor for the construction of the site providing all materials, labour and equipment needed to achieve the desired new look.

The design combines traditional pub items with plenty of personal elements associated with the area. It’s an expression of Hatfields semirural location and long history of being a quaint local serving hearty dishes and quality cask ales.

Eclectic ensembles of colourful furniture on patterned carpets invite guests to unwind, whilst an installation of fixed seating around the fireplace creates a relaxing atmosphere.

The dining area has been redeveloped, and a new waiter and coffee station installed to support the pubs improved food offering.

Despite the refurbishment it is still brimming with old charm and character with its low beamed ceilings and moody lighting.

Subtle differences in decorations have created a more distinct and intimate feel from the bar area.The bars new back fitting has allowed space for a new cooler and much improved display shelving.

Completing the new-look ground floor are the fully refinished toilets designed in line with Punch template standards.

A major refurbishment to the first floor converted disused bedrooms and bathroom into a function room with ample seating and a large TV. With its own lobby, bottle bar and WC it’s an ideal space for private functions or for the publican to host their own events.

A sun-trap to the side of the pub with a small selection of rattan furniture is a comfortable secret escape. Based at the rear of the property is a sizeable carpark, should this become full, there’s further parking nearby due to the pubs location in a residential area.

The newly built interior is a step away from the well-rehearsed floral carpets and out-of-date décor found in pubs of this age. Stylish but functional, Concorde BGW have created the right look in a pub that is expected to cope with a lot of pressure as the publican seeks to get greater output from a smaller space.

The Abbeville — 67-69 Abbeville Rd, Clapham, London SW4 9JW The Abbeville lies at the heart of charming Abbeville Road in Clapham. One of Three Cheers Pub's it has undergone a magnificent makeover to become a beautiful neighbourhood pub serving the best in British food, local craft beers, artisan spirits and cracking cocktails as well as great wines.

In winter, the open fire and cosy nooks provide a welcoming place to while away the evenings and in summer the front doors of the pub open out to a lovely setting for drinking and dining. During the project, the shopfront was removed, disposed of then replaced with a beautiful stained and polished shop front to clean-up its look and give The Abbeville more curb appeal.

It was important the pub front looked good to continue to invite customers in through the doors. Beyond the architectural features, other elements that needed to be considered were lighting, signage and outdoor accessories. All these extras were carefully chosen to compliment the look of the area which has a village-like atmosphere thanks to the large number of street cafés and independent shops.

LED lighting hidden behind the top of the awning box illuminates the gold-leaf signage and new external heaters make the space useable year-round.

The bar has an attractive and unique feel.

A new verde green marble top with bullnose profile was installed and LED

lighting on the underside of the bar illuminates the bar front. The flooring surrounding the bar and trade areas was either removed and replaced with new carpet or if a timber floor it was striped and stained. Finally, the back bar fitting has new shelves which are brightly lit and a new waiter station with space for a single fridge was added for better accessibility for the waiting staff.

An eclectic mix of new and existing furniture at mid and high heights including new and reupholstered fixed seating takes advantage of all existing space and has been used to create atmosphere for large groups, or privacy in small booths.

The ladies and the gent’s toilets were refurbished in-line with the pubs overall look and feel. Tiles and vanity units were cleaned and polished, new beading added to doors and mirrors and feature wallpaper on the ceiling compliments the intriguing artwork on the walls.

The refurb has created an abundance of space for all occasions, a stunning outdoor seating area and a great environment for staff to work in. The Abbeville can now continue to be something of a local institution, a charming neighbourhood pub with bags of character.

The George Hotel Piercebridge, Darlington DL2 3SW

If you are looking for traditional Georgian style then look no further than The George Hotel in Piercebridge, just a few miles from Darlington.

Spread over a Grade II listed Coaching Inn on the banks of the River Tees, the hotel is perfect for corporate travellers, family visitors and wedding parties.

The George Hotel completed an extensive refurbishment programme resulting in a luxurious place to stay that combines true Georgian heritage with modern day indulgences.

Significant investment was made into the repair of the hotel's exterior. Concorde BGW repaired and updated the terrace to the front of the hotel. New timber planters were built and positioned to seperate the area from the road in front. To complete the terrace existing benches were re-painted in Farrow & Ball paint and the cobbled floor was repointed and cleaned up. External decorations include newly designed signage and a refresh of the buildings paint work. To the rear of the building the terrace which overlooks the river has been rejuvenated with a simple deep clean and new loose furniture.

Inside the building, the elegant and refined interior design is reminiscent of a bygone era which has been combined with the careful introduction of new and repurposed furniture, feature pendant hanging lights, artwork and bric-a-brac.

The majority of the refurbishment focused on the whole of the ground floor, which is comprised of a reception, lounge, bar, farmhouse restaurant, ballroom, snug, meeting room, function suite and pavilion ceremony room.

Both the restaurant and snug epitomise the elegant style of a period building with high ceilings, open fires and wonderful views overlooking either the River Tees or one of the gardens.

Of the 36 bedrooms in the hotel, work was only carried out to the bridal suite, possibly the room which requires the most attention due to its special usage. The room has been reordered allowing it to continue to

provide luxury accommodation.

As the hotel has numerous areas to cover there wasn’t one particular theme, however it was traditionally styled throughout with a twist to update the site through some brighter upholsteries.

Using several wallpaper designs, each room was given its own identity. In particular there is a large area in the Ballroom where Tektura fabric backed vinyl wall covering was used for improved durability in a busy space. Other new finishes included carpets to much of the ground floor rooms and entrance areas. For more durability a new distressed, timber floor was laid in the main bar and reception area.

Overall a warm, comfortable and homely look has been created whilst being sympathetic to the original character and heritage of this charming Coaching Inn.

The Fleece — Market Pl, Cirencester GL7 2NZ

After a £350k investment, The Fleece at Cirencester – part of the House of Daniel Thwaites collective, has a colourful new look bursting with old world charm mixed with 21st century luxury.

Concorde BGW Group were briefed to bring The Fleece’s 28 bedrooms, breakfast and lounge areas in line with the refurbishment of the ground floor pub which was completed back in 2017.

Industrial furniture can be seen in all of the bedrooms, from chic window effect mirrors to crafted side tables made from a metal frame with wood-effect finish.

Across 3 floors you will find Feature, Character, Signature and Standard bedrooms. A 14-week, 3 phase programme of works was proposed to tackle the refurbishment of 28 bedrooms.

The Signature and Standard Rooms are vibrant and stylish with special touches of elegance -from their bespoke headboards to the entirely original artwork. Expect more House of Hackney, William Morris and Borastapeter wallpaper adorned with deer heads and trendy mirrors.

Each room is complete with an en-suite bath or shower room, the extravagance of the bathroom depends on your choice of bedroom. There are distinct differences in the 4 bedroom choices, not just in terms of size and bathroom style but more so because of their décor and furniture.

The Feature Rooms are the biggest in the house.

Using feature walls with lavish House of Hackney wallpaper, custom made quilted headboards and a careful selection of elegant furniture such as chesterfield sofas and vintage bureau desks has built a characterful yet comfortable bedroom.

These Feature Rooms are ideal for those staying for a special occasion.

The Character Rooms follow suit with large double beds, roll top baths and eye-catching wallpaper. Separate seating areas have been formed in the rooms with lounge chairs mixed with industrial cage base coffee tables.

Keeping the bedrooms traditional with a twist of industrial reflects the rustic, cosy feel of the walking country The Fleece calls home.

Moving into the lounge/breakfast room cosy dining and meeting spaces have been created.

Existing furniture was refurbished with a new paint or by stripping and staining. Floral and animal patterned wallpaper coupled with solid wood furniture, feature lamps and golden mirrors gives the lounge a period look. Thick curtains draped across bay windows sit in front of wingback armchairs creating a cosy nook for mature customers wanting to read the papers over a coffee.

Overall, the subtle industrial style gives The Fleece a contemporary twist to the period look of the building. The Inn attracts a variety of ages and a blend of leisure and business guests so the variety of room choices allows the site to cater for all needs.

Pitcher & Piano Cor n h i l l

— 28-31 Cornhill, London EC3V 3ND A much-loved London bar with an excellent reputation, Pitcher & Piano in Cornhill came to Concorde BGW with a brief to refresh its interior whilst bringing it in-line with its new look brand standard. They also wanted to improve the bar and servery to enable it to better cater for the crowds it was pulling in on a regular basis.

Pitcher & Piano in Cornhill is an all-day to night drinking and eating establishment in the Bank area of London so naturally footfall through the site is substantial. The interior design concept had to account for this by specifying hardwearing furniture, flooring and tiling which were also in keeping with the new P&P brand theme.

Due to the listed status of the building, planning permission was obtained to make any internal changes and due to the location, there were restrictions on delivery times and installations. A concise build schedule was essential to ensure the project was delivered within the agreed 3-week time frame.

Much of the refurbishment focused on updating the basement and ground floor bars, reupholstering or replacing furniture and refreshing colour schemes to bring the site in line with their new brand offering.

Surrounding the edges of the ground floor bar are sumptuous dark grey

banquettes, upholstered chairs and violet-blue dining chairs bringing depth of colour. The look is completed with bespoke, mauve bar stools embroidered with the words “Pitcher & Piano”– these chairs a common sight in the Sheffield and Newcastle P&P’s too!

Both the ground floor and basement bars have sleek pewter bar tops and illuminated bar fronts creating a contemporary look and feel. Back bar fittings have been adapted and the metal work re-finished in brass. The bar servery has a new timber coffee station with a stainless-steel top to allow it to withstand nearly constant use.

The site flaunts its new P&P branding at every opportunity, it has appeared in the form of gold vinyl lettering on the front doors, branded roller blinds and in a large “Pitcher & Piano” inset floor sign which adorns the bar apron.

Another familiar site is the oversized P&P ‘&’ symbol set in a forest of colourful planting.

The 184-cover site was fully refurbished in just 3 weeks and continues to be a great bar to visit for lunch, for some after-work drinks or simply to wind down before the last train home.

The Clive Arms — Bromfield Rd, Ludlow SY8 2JR

As a country rich in history we are not afraid to create an eclectic mix of old and new which can be seen throughout the refurbished and newly built areas of The Clive Arms.

The Clive is a modern Grade II Listed building that sits in the tranquil Shropshire countryside.

The transformed property includes three new bedrooms on the first floor of the main building which have joined 14 existing courtyard rooms that were also refurbished.

The renovation has provided a substantial restaurant, bar, snug and private space for dining and meetings. The bar has a cosy pub feel with seating booths and benches, bespoke coffee tables and sofas combined with a selection of accessories including vintage books and quirky bric-a-brac.

Whilst carrying out build works to the snug and bar area an old boarded out chimney was discovered and knocked back to create a working fire place.

The newly formed rear garden has created more outside space for dining and socialising, it accompanies the existing courtyard, both of which have heating and lighting to provide yearround outdoor seating.

An extension to the main house for toilet facilities was essential in allowing The Clive Arms to properly accommodate their new customers. The Clive Arms forms part of the Ludlow Estate which also has a café, farm shop and garden centre.

The project was completed after works were carried out to the main façade which had a new door and window repairs. The cosy, traditionally decorated hotel, bar and restaurant is now one of the most attractive venues in Shropshire and is a great place to base yourself when exploring the countryside. theclive.co.uk
