Borough Yards is a new large-scale shopping and dining district just down the road from the iconic Borough Market.

The mixed-use development incorporates existing buildings alongside newly constructed spaces that reflect the surrounding Victorian architecture. The area's medieval street pattern includes 8,500 square metres of existing railway arches which have been repurposed to accommodate double-height retail units.

Harts Group have formed a trio of impeccable restaurants and bars in the space. Barrafina and a Parrillan - but also a new Spanish wine bar, Bar Daskal. All three restaurant’s share a state-of-the-art central kitchen.

In Barrafina, thirty-two stools line the marble bar overlooking the enticing selection of wine, this is where the bulk of the eating happens. Barrafina also has a bookable snug or private dining room and a selection of tall tables with views across the yard.

Parrillan (pronounced: parri-yan) is a restaurant with an outdoor terrace. A choice of beautiful meat, seafood and vegetable items can be cooked by guests on their own mini parrillas (grills), on the terrace. The chefs also have an ambitious menu of their own, cooked on the new cast concrete wood-fired grill and can be served inside and outside.

The new Bar Daskal will be a Spanish wine and sherry bar offering cold tapas. Daskal has a second separate entrance from Park Street making it the perfect post-Barrafina drink.

Harts Group had a unique opportunity to build unforgettable flagship drinking and dining experiences in this beautiful, raw-brick, cathedralscale space and as you can see, they really have created something special.

They are the latest in a series of names to be the among first to take spaces at Borough Yards, alongside Paul Smith, Everyman Cinema and The Office Group.

This is the second time we have worked with Concorde. The first was a design and build and this one was a build but on both occasions, we have enjoyed working with the teams, they have been very much integrated into our team so we work hand-in-hand and that’s been a very positive experience for us. So much so that we are now looking at the next two projects with the Concorde team, so I guess that’s a testament to the success of that

a huge project with a big undertaking to get three separate restaurants all within the same space, both in terms of the design and the implementation. Its hard to overestimate how much of a challenge that’s been but I think its been really successful and hopefully people will see when they come to enjoy it.

Visitors will appreciate its delicate combination of traditional pub comforts and a decorative style that is characterised by an eclectic mix of imitative historic and abstract artwork along with vibrant shapes and colours that draw the eye.

Bright red fixed seating, light shades, barstools, and dining chairs combined with splashes of deep navy or turquoise is loud yet sophisticated and works beautifully in the dining areas.

In parts, The Stonhouse is a museum of reminders of its previous life thanks to the skilful craftsmanship that kept the original bar in place. It’s an impressive traditional English style wooden pub bar in warm browns, supported by thick carved pillars.

To the rear of the pub, a lovely surprise awaits guests – a secret terrace. It complements the interior style with a cosy heated pergola that’s perfect for those cooler evenings, and when the sun comes out, there’s plenty of space to soak it up and enjoy a beer. Its fair to say The Stonhouse has been refurbished with the utmost sensitivity for the values enshrined by the classic British pub. thestonhouse.co.uk/

Adding to its natural rustic appeal are three bespoke metal gazebos, they are the perfect place to settle down under and sip on a refreshing tipple from the new horse box bar. The Methuen is lucky enough to also have space for a covered and heated pergola terrace which was retained from a previous refurbishment.

There aren’t many better ways to spend a sun-soaked day away from the office than at The Methuen Arms. Visitors are also invited to enjoy cinema and entertainment nights in this lovely, unique setting.

eatery, The Puffin and Oyster, offers alfresco drinking and dining, a heated covered terrace and inside, there’s multiple tables with sweeping views across the bay.

Visitors will be greeted by a brand-new outdoor decked area with seating for around 140, edged with raised planters and with incredible views of the beach. The pub’s exterior has been updated with cedar cladding, the perfect backdrop for the site’s new branding and signage.

The high-end interior has many incredible features, from 10 cosy seats circling the quartz table around the Omtimyst fireplace, to floor-to-ceiling windows in the front dining area which offer guests breathtaking views.

A handpicked collection of coastal themed, nautical styled and beach inspired accessories bring the pub to life. Glass fishing float lights encased in a rope net hang from the ceiling and add to the ambiance of the dining areas. Hand carved nick-nacks in natural wood along with anchors and buoys, fill shelving adding to its costal charm.

The open kitchen pass adds atmosphere to the dining room where guests can see chefs firing up the pizza oven or skilfully creating speciality seafood dishes. The transformation is complete with a new open plan bar next to vast glass doors opening out onto the decked alfresco area. liberationgroup.com/the-puffin-and-oyster

I must extend my thanks to your team – this has been an extremely complex scheme, with intervention from various 3rd parties made all the more difficult due to the nature and condition of the site.

The project has turned out better than any of our expectations and this is thanks to the hard work of the team. There are too many for to me offer my thanks to personally, but I hope you will pass on my deep thanks to all site and office based staff involved in the scheme – let’s hope it continues to be a roaring success.

Stoughton Grange Farm Shop & Distillery

LeicesterBuild

institution Steamin' Billy's latest addition to the Oadby-based development, is a marvellous Farm Shop and Distillery.

Built in a former milking parlour, it retains a rustic feel, in line with its surroundings. Many of the materials used for the build are reclaimed, such as the wood panels on the walls, and the corrugated metal sheets.

Entering through glazed doors which look out across the farm, customers will find a wide selection of fruit, vegetables and salad. A key aim of this shop is that it should be as sustainable as possible, and in keeping with this ethos, nothing that’s flown in on a plane is sold here and all the produce is grown on-site or sourced locally.

The Hambleton Bakery has a great selection of bread, cakes and biscuits, as well as takeaway coffees and other drinks. At the heart of the business is the butchery selling an array of products and specialities such as mouth-watering sausages and homemade pork pies. The deli is close by and is generously stocked with a range of delicious cheeses.

The new distillery makes small batch, hand-crafted gins that are also available for customers to enjoy in The Cow and Plough, a neighbouring pub owned by Steamin’ Billy.

The Farm Shop joins other businesses at the site, including the newly opened Fazakerley Homeware and Gifts, and Lollipops Pottery Studio to name a few.

Plans are well underway for further developments at Stoughton Grange and include a woodland wedding venue, a glamping area, and farm animals are gradually being re-introduced to the site which was once home to a farm park.

This rustic pub is situated in old farm buildings, offering locally brewed beers and weekly jazz lunches. It has undergone a significant transformation as part of the raft of changes being made at Stoughton Grange.

The refurbishment aimed to bring it into the 21st century but without altering the feel too much. It has been given what is described as an “upmarket, brasserie feel" with fixed seating, a larger bar, and a new private dining area.

One immediately obvious feature is that parts of the exterior have been painted a lovely shade of green, which is also used in the interior. As well as the bar and dining area makeovers, there is a new kitchen - which customers can now see into - and new Thetoilets.outside

area at the front of the pub is kitted out with new furniture and there's a feature olive tree as well as herbs growing in planters around the edge. The pub benefits from a one-acre kitchen garden which is used for growing salads, tomatoes, courgettes, beans, edible flowers, celery, cucumbers, radishes and more, and all the fresh produce appears in their restaurant menu.

The new-look pub is more in-keeping with today's consumer and is perfectly located as a pit-stop after a day exploring the surrounding countryside.

High Peak School –

Kedleston Group

High Peak School in Cheshire East has been transformed following a significant investment in new facilities by the Kedleston Group.

The school supports children with autism and SEMH in a bespoke and nurturing environment. It allows them to “continue to develop skills and strategies that enable them to participate as independent, valued citizens, enjoying equal rights, opportunities and a good quality of life.”

High Peak is one of 10 schools that form the Kedleston Group. It was first opened in October 2015 after it was purchased from Best Western and subsequently had several ad hoc buildings added to acutely accommodate its new occupants.

But Kedleston Group had a clear path to achieving excellence and wanted to develop defined schooling areas with easy to navigate corridors and bright airy spaces for learning and Workingdevelopment.withthis

brief, the design and structural engineering teams developed a solution to carry out major demolition works to immensely improve the functionality of the building.

A pre-requisite from the client was that the demolitions were conducted whilst school was out for summer, to minimise disruption for the pupils.

Today, it is difficult to imagine what it looked like before. The future is very bright for the school and the pupils who are thoroughly enjoying the facilities.
