NAAFI

This Grade II listed building can be found in the centre of Hertford, it’s a flagship of the McMullen’s estate after being purchased by them in 1891 for the princely sum of £3,500.

The design fuses existing historical features with understated glamour in such an exceptional way that it delights the senses and makes it a wonderous place to rest your head.

The bar area feels traditional with its hints of antique brass, inky damasks and individual table lamps providing a layering of different lighting levels to create an evening speakeasy atmosphere when required. Moving into the dining lounge, the rich reds and sophisticated chandeliers turn the space into a Mayfair-esque dining room.

Throughout the ground floor, signature patterns adorn the walls and furniture, cleverly knitting together the old and new. This carries through to the 35 opulent bedrooms, many with new panelling, feature headboards, stylish prints, tasselled cushions and luxurious new soft furnishings which contrast with the timeless beauty of the historic beams.

The en-suites have a modern cheeky hint of the unexpected, with striking geometric patterns complimenting the demure antique effect tiles. They are balanced with subtle styling, dressing items and polished brass accessories. Accent colours are cleverly tied in by utilising small bits of piping to add pops of colour to furniture alongside coloured artwork.

Externally the building has been restored to its former glory with bespoke features enhanced and picked out in gold leaf. Existing signage has been added to with new branding to help update and energise the original features and new lighting illuminates the building.

For 650 years The Salisbury Arms has been “The Crown of the town" and my goodness, giving that crown a little polish has made this building gleam inside and out to become a jewel of McMullen’s estate. salisburyarmshotel.co.uk

Ragdale Hall

The renovation and transformation of 43 guest bedrooms took place discreetly which allowed Ragdale Hall Spa to continue to operate as a tranquil sanctuary throughout the construction phase which lasted 44 weeks.

Three different styles of bedrooms have been designed to suit the clients brief and price points; the Luxury rooms have a calming blue colour scheme with bursts of pink and coral to draw the eye; the Classic Plus rooms in chalky greens and peaceful pinks are knitted together with floral accents; and the Luxury Plus rooms bring rich navies and striking mustards in to play.

All rooms have bespoke fitted wardrobes, minibar facilities, mini safes, drawers, robe storage with ambient lighting as well as sockets, handles and lights with an ever-popular antique brass finish. A floor standing lamp accompanying a cosy armchair is the perfect place to snuggle up with a good book.

Bespoke upholstered headboards adorn each room with some having the ability to utilise zip and link beds. The desks and bedside tables were made exclusively for the rooms with hardwearing finishes, soft close mechanisms and stylish antique brass legs, caps and handles.

Each en-suite has been fully refurbished to feature walk in showers as well as a bath. Striking black and white patterned floor tiles, classic Carrera marble effect wall tiles, feature sink units and illuminated mirrors form a very glamourous yet durable bathroom.

Attention to detail was key in the design of these luxury rooms, especially when adding in layers of lighting for all uses. Reading lights accompany decorative wall lighting at bedsides, feature leaf lights add a botanical feature to the main walls, hidden LEDs add a warming glow to shelving and robe storage areas, and sensor lighting at a low level is a special finishing touch for those late-night trips to the bathroom.

Casa & Plaza Pastor

Coal Drops ,Yard, N1C 4DQ

Design | Build | Furnish

Casa Pastor is a Mexican taqueria with a covered, heated outdoor terrace in Coal Drops Yard Kings Cross.

Inspired by the decade the founders spent in Mexico City, running cult nightclub, El Colmillo, Casa present tacos, tostadas, quesadillas and plenty of mezcal and tequila in a fun and vibrant way.

Casa Pastor offers live music, laidback vibes, iconic colours and a large, 'tequilaslinging' bar at its centre. The sites original Victorian features - high ceilings, exposed brick walls and tall vaulted windows have been given a chic Mexican twist with vibrant murals, artwork and hanging basket lighting. Integrating faux planting and trees gives a depth of texture to the interior too, especially the brightly coloured furniture pieces which energise the restaurant.

NAAFI Cafe

Princes Gate, Richmond Road, Catterick Garrison, DL9 3BA

Design | Build | Furnish

NAAFI is the Ministry of defences in house provider of catering, retail, leisure and soft facilities management services supporting UK forces communities around the world.

The refurbishment converted a unit which was previously used as an Italian restaurant into a high street coffee shop and cafe. The existing site was in a good condition and so many features were adapted and utilised to create the new NAAFI Café concept you see here.

A symbolic floor to ceiling height NAAFI “N” is the centrepiece for the scheme, it showcases NAAFI’s recognisable branding and helps break up the space by creating cosy intimate areas. An eclectic mix of wall finishes including dark tiles, a faux living wall and patterned wallpaper create a more informal feel to the venue making it the perfect place for a relaxing brew or two.

A bespoke servery counter has been formed to enhance NAAFI’s catering experience by allowing for a fully orchestrated product display and whilst ensuring operational needs are met behind the scenes.

Furniture styles vary throughout – dining chairs have been reupholstered and reused and supplemented with a mix of lounge chairs which slot nicely under the new coffee tables. Large sections of fixed seating from the existing site have also been reused and reupholstered in dark blue leather in keeping with the new branding.

Rain Bar

80 Great Bridgewater Street, Manchester, M1 5JG

The new refurbishment brings the pub firmly up to date with a smart urban style, adding a stunning new centrepiece bar, comfortable dining and drinking areas and roaring, open fireplaces.

A romantic combination of traditional and industrial styling – from feature carpets to antique effect mirrors, wood panelled walls, dark leather seats, bright fabrics with bold prints – is really what defines Rain Bar’s quirky interior. This clash of two boldly characteristic styles creates a visually stunning and cosy scheme.

The event space on the first floor has its very own bar and when its not occupied by regulars, it can be used for conferences and banquets alike. Levelling the floor was the focus of the refurbishment here, after which it was extensively decorated with an illuminated back bar, dressing items, stackable furniture, faux planting and feature lighting.

In the basement, the toilets have been reconfigured to give more space and additional facilities to customers. They now boast new feature floor and wall tiles throughout as well as polished timber cubicles and new basins.

Having one of the biggest beer gardens in the city centre makes it the perfect place to enjoy a cosy winter pint or a spritzer on a sunny summers day. The final stage of the project transformed the boozer’s ever-popular beer garden into a foliage-filled hideaway using plenty of heaters, potted plants, and covered seating shrouded in ivy.

The basement level toilets have also been reconfigured to give more space and additional facilities to customers. They now boast a new feature floor and wall tiles throughout as well as polished timber cubicles and new basins.

This iconic central Manchester pub has long been a popular haunt since JW Lees’ took ownership of it 23 years ago.

The Maynard

Main Rd, Grindleford, Hope Valley, S32 2HE

Design | Build | Furnish

Surrounded by Derbyshire countryside, The Maynard is a 19-bedroom hotel with a dog friendly bar and a restaurant boasting spectacular views over Hope Valley.

The refurbishment focused on reducing acoustic noise in the large, split level dining area, modernising the design and ensuring the history of the venue and the personality of the owner shined through. The eclectic choice of artwork, notably featuring smartly dressed animals, is a quirky feature inspired by the clients love of animals.

A purpose-built, emerald green partition wall breaks up the dining area, adds a new secluded dining space but most importantly, its stunning yet serves a practical, noise reducing purpose. Its frame holds 3, one of a kind, stained glass windows believed to date back to the 19th Century. These windows were sourced from an independent supplier in Portsmouth to suit the exact requirements of The Maynard’s style.

Bespoke elements continue throughout the restaurant; bronze effect gantry’s and a collection of beautiful, sound-absorbing furniture such as cosy fixed seating, padded chairs, large wall hangings and plenty of thick fabric accessories.

The views from the restaurant over the large garden and rolling hills of the Peak District landscape are breath-taking. New timber reveals around the windows are a fresh take on a traditional design feature which has been used to frame the view in a picturesque way.

The Maynard showcases many daring interior design choices which come together to create an incredible restaurant and bar with a warm welcoming feel and heaps of personality.

The Prince of Burford

216 The Hill, Burford, OX18 4HX Design | Build | Brand | Furnish

The new name signifies the start of a new, exciting chapter. Whilst the new owners, Butcombe Brewery, will ensure it remains a ‘proper pub’ for locals, it has many new features that make it a destination for visitors from across the UK.

The pub boasts 16 guest rooms with ensuite bathrooms that have been transformed with beautiful, decorative panelled walls, tasteful historic and equestrian-themed art, and are lit by dramatic chandeliers and statement wall or pendant fittings.

A new, purpose-built bar is very country-esq with its wood panelled bar front, copper gantry’s and tiled back bar. It sits next to the new snug which has all the classic elements of a cosy nook - a wood burner, extra-large and cosy chesterfield sofas and comfortable armchairs. For maximum cosiness and to add to the rustic feel; rugs, paint finishes in warm colours and reinstating original beams all come together to create a warm and inviting space.

Adjacent to the snug is the reconfigured reception complemented with an original piano and shutters which close off the area when not in use. Even the bathrooms have dramatically changed with wallpapers, mirrors, feature tiles, panelling and decorative lighting.

Outside, visitors can expect to see a covered pergola and large decked area. This classic pub is complete with a wonderful new brand identity seen on its classic swing sign and signage package.
