Editor's NOTE

Dear Impact Readers,

Here we are, at the end of the academic year 2022-2023, looking back on our learning adventure as we eased out of the difficult period of the last couple of years. It is our pleasure to share the highlights of the past few months in this latest issue of Impact - the magazine that keeps you informed on all of the amazing learning, events, activities and service projects that happen at our school while bringing Concordian’s mission and vision to life.

Most recently, Concordian administration, faculty and students paid tribute to Her Majesty Queen Suthida on the auspicious occasion of her 45th birthday anniversary. We then share some words of reflection from Hui Hui, one of our graduates this year, and celebrate the achievements of our students at the Burapha Music Contest 2023. We then look back on the brilliant Zanook Fest - a fabulous event for the school community organized entirely by students.

A most wonderful celebration, and an absolute highlight of the year, Songkran brought joy across all sections of the school, each giving the fête a unique twist. Water play for the younger students was fun and refreshing while, in addition to the traditional blessings, Secondary staff and students were treated to the “Legend of Siam” - an extravaganza of breathtaking performances by our students, showcasing the stunningly profound beauty of Thai culture from across the land.

Concordian takes pride in its academic programmes and its commitment to trilingualism, and so we check in with the winners of this year’s PY Chinese Writing Contest and take an in-depth look at the learning journey of our Grade 5 students through their PYP Exhibition - the culmination of all of their hard work in the Primary Years Programme. Keeping the school’s mission in their hearts, our youngest students also do their part in making the world a better place - please read all about the K2 Walkathon which raised a significant amount for the pediatric department at Chonburi Hospital.

CONCORDIANDRAGON

Over in Secondary, we have the pleasure of finding out more about the seemingly endless avenues through which our students demonstrate their learning outcomes and incredible talents - Design Exhibition, Talent Show, Chinese Speech competition, Speak! English Public Speaking contest, Grade 10 Personal Project Exhibition, DP Art Exhibition, the Vocal and Instrumental End-of-Year concerts...wow! And let’s not forget our Concordian Dragons Athletics - our sports teams have had a fantastic year, coming back from the difficult times stronger than ever and looking forward to a new year of sporting successes after a well-deserved summer break.

As always, we update you on the phenomenal progress of our service learning teams and the work of the Middle School and High School governments and their achievements during the year. We are once again grateful to the Concordian families who have chosen to share their thoughts about the school and lastly, we highlight the list of university acceptances achieved by the Class of 2023.

Please enjoy this issue of our magazine and have a wonderful summer!

Congratulations to Raiwin (Hui Hui) Sae Zhang, Grade 12 student who was accepted into Northwestern University, US, this year. As she joined the Thai classical music activity since she was in G3 until now, she had an opportunity to do many things such as performing in Thai Events, music competitions, a personal project and also creating the club with her friends to help others which was very meaningful. Not only that, she inspires the younger generation to be good musicians and try to achieve their dreams as she has done.

Here are some feelings and experiences that Hui Hui would like to share with us:

“Beautiful polished wooden pieces with such vibrant echoes; feeling the rhythm of the melodies pulsating through my veins. What a journey it has been.

As I reflect upon my incredible and long (16 years!) journey at Concordian, one thing remains constant in my life—my love for Thai music.

The earliest memories that I treasure most are my involvement in various school events. From Loy Krathong to Songkran, I have had the privilege to showcase my appreciation for Thai music to my peers, teachers, and parents.

Throughout the years, I have also had the opportunity to participate in numerous national competitions. They not only challenged my skills but also allowed me to connect with like-minded youths who share the same passion for Thai music.

One of the highlights of my musical journey is representing my heritage on international stages. From performing at the AsiaPacific Economic Cooperation conference to the World Education Forum, I witnessed how music transcends cultural barriers and brings people together.

As I progressed in my musical journey, I was inspired to give back to the community that brought me to where I am today. With the support of my teachers, parents, and peers, I embarked on a service project, donating musical instruments and teaching music to underprivileged students. This experience has instilled in me a sense of responsibility to continue sharing my knowledge with those who may not have easy access to it.

As I prepare to embark on a new chapter at university in the US, I am determined to continue my musical journey, honoring the traditions of Thai music abroad.

All this would not have been possible without the help of the Concordian community, so I would like to end by thanking Kru A, my family, my friends, and all of you for your unwavering support.”

Throughout the years, she has been not only a compassionate leader in the band but has also worked so hard in many activities at school.

I hope that she will be happy in her new chapter and I wish her prosperity and success in her way.

We are so proud of you !!!

Music Contest 2023 Burapha

Congratulations to our three representative students, Rika (G8), Don (G5) and Dol (G5) who participated and won amazing awards in the Thai music competition for Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn at Burapha University on April 8-9, 2023.

Mookmada (Rika) Phurkwattanagul earned the silver medal for the Khim in the Middle school category. Don Decharin and Dol Decharin earned the Gold Medal for the Ranad-Ek in the Primary school category. The success was a result of their hard work and diligent training. Let’s enjoy the experiences that they all would like to share with us:

I am very proud of myself for receiving the silver medal for the khim competition even though I have only been practicing this song for 2 weeks. I feel like all the practice paid off because I thought I would get a bronze medal, because there were so many talented seniors in the competition. Going to this competition really enhanced my skills on this instrument and made me more comfortable on stage by myself. Thank you Kru A for giving me this opportunity to compete!

Last month my brother and I competed in a Ranad competition, Mor Burapa and we achieved the gold medal award. This competition has taught me a lot of things but first I would like to thank Kru A for supporting me in this competition. Every time I compete it always helps me to improve myself. This competition taught me to be a risk taker - even though this wasn’t my first time playing in front of audiences, I was still pretty nervous. But I overcame it and continued. It has also improved my responsibility to practice everyday and improve my skill of managing time.

Recently, I joined a Ranad competition called “Mor Burapa”. I enjoyed my time there and I also learned a lot of things. For example, I was open-minded in hearing the responses of my teachers when I made mistakes and also used the IB learner profile “Reflective”, after the competition, I reflected on what I did wrong and how I could have done better. I would like to thank everyone who helped me throughout this journey and especially Kru A for teaching me. Without her, this wouldn’t have been possible.

“There is no success without effort and discipline.” We are so proud of you and hopefully they will improve better in the future and their dreams will come true.

Zanook

The Zanook school concert is a vibrant, exhilarating event that draws over 500 attendees each year. It stands out as a fun-filled celebration, characterized by a light-hearted, joyous atmosphere that encompasses both performers and audience alike. While each performance is very well rehearsed, Zanook's essence lies not in serious competition but in providing a platform for students and bands to showcase their talents in a stress-free, enjoyable environment.

Zanook was held on April 4, 2023,, timed close to the vibrant Songkran holiday and attendees embraced the holiday spirit, arriving in colorful, floral shirts that added to the festival's visual appeal.

Driven by the passionate student committee - Good, Tin, Minnie, PingPing, and Kanoon - the organization of Zanook is a meticulous, collaborative process. Regular meetings with the school administrators ensure that the festival runs smoothly and remains an anticipated, highlight event of the school year.

6 CONCORDIAN IMPACTISSUE 37 Activities and Events

Service groups and clubs ran booths selling refreshing drinks and delicious food. Combined, the groups were able to raise over 170,000 baht for various charitable causes.

Zanook's unique charm is amplified by the 'Dunk Tank' event which was handled by the HSSG - an exciting spectacle where students get the rare opportunity to dunk their administrators. Over 80,000 baht was raised and donated to Baan Dek Foundation. The crowd's laughter and cheers during this segment encapsulated the festival's spirit - one of camaraderie, amusement, and shared enjoyment.

Zanook isn't just a school concert; it's a jubilant celebration of Concordian student talent, community bonding, and shared joy. It represents the very heartbeat of the school year, making it not just an event to attend, but an experience to cherish.

Early Years Songkran Ceremony

The EY Songkran Ceremony in this school year was the first time for nearly all of the students as we didn’t have this event for about 3 years.

PY Songkran Celebration 2023

This year the PY students participated in the watering ceremonies that were held in the Grand Theater in the morning. We also had the Riak Kwan Ceremony for G5 students and a water-pouring Ceremony for all students. During the ceremony, many PY students demonstrated and showed their talent for beautiful Thai dance and Thai classical music during the ceremony.

Then in the afternoon, everyone enjoyed the water activities together at the mini soccer field and cooled down with ice-cream at the end of the day. It is absolutely great to have the celebration of Songkran back to see everyone have had such a blast getting each other wet.

The Legend of Siam Songkran in the Secondary school

After 3 years of Covid restrictions, we have finally been able to resume our regular Songkran celebrations at school. To celebrate a return to semi-normalcy, the Thai Department put together an elegant performance celebrating the many beautiful and diverse aspects of Thai Culture. From the graceful beauty of the Nang Songkran procession to the powerful and controlled strength of the Muay Thai demonstration, we got to experience the width and depth of our culture through performances which represented each region of Thailand.

Students also received blessings from their teachers, this was also a good opportunity for students in Grade 12 to receive their final blessing from their teachers before their exams and graduation. After the performance, we got to enjoy the booths set up by the students, for example, stalls making traditional Thai amenities or booths serving foods like “Fried Pork with sticky rice” or

and “Thai Herb refreshing drink” or

Overall, this year’s Songkran celebration is one of our best yet, with great performances and student-led activities.

Career Day 2023

The annual Career Day event took place on April 22, 2023, and was organized by Concordian’s Career and College Counseling department. Each year we bring together professionals in the larger community of Thailand to share their knowledge and expertise to our students in Grades 9 to 12. This supports our students by providing in-depth knowledge on specific careers as well as an insight on future job opportunities. It allows them to make connections between what they are learning in school and the world of work. It also encourages students to set goals and develop a plan of action for their future while inspiring them by making them aware of the unlimited potential ahead of them. We highly value these kinds of events and send our deepest gratitude and appreciation to the professionals who took the time to share their experience and knowledge with our students.

I’d like to thank all my Chinese teachers in PY and also my grandparents for practicing Chinese with me at home.

The work in this gallery represents Grade 5 students' artistic journey and aesthetic education development in the PYP.

Grade 5 students have creatively demonstrated knowledge, understanding, and art exploration in their paintings. They have used the elements of art including line, shape, space, value, form, texture, and color in their work.

Each student took action using visual communication by integrating their PYPX Exhibition topic into their symbolic self-portraits to demonstrate who they are and what they have learned. They have used symbols to express concepts, beliefs and ideas adding depth and meaning to their art.

They have skillfully created these beautiful portraits through the course of many months.

Please enjoy these paintings and appreciate the Grade 5 vision for a better world.

The 2023 PYP Exhibition at Concordian was an extraordinary triumph that left an indelible mark on all fortunate enough to witness it. This highly anticipated event, which culminated a year of arduous work, exemplified the true essence of the International Baccalaureate's Primary Years Programme.

Students embarked on an exhilarating journey, selecting a UN Sustainable Development Goal that ignited their passions. With unwavering enthusiasm, they meticulously researched their chosen topic, collaborating with like-minded peers to consolidate their knowledge and devise meaningful action for creating change. Supported by the school community, including teachers, parents, mentors, and guest speakers, our Grade 5 students took charge of their own learning, demonstrating their trilingual abilities and showcasing their skills in art, music, physical education, and ICT.

The culmination of their efforts was a series of dynamic and engaging TED Talk-style presentations that captivated the audience, leaving a lasting impression of their immense accomplishments. The 2023 PYP Exhibition was more than an academic showcase; it was a testament to the power of education, collaboration, and the steadfast determination of young minds set on making a positive impact in the world.

Walkathon Walkathon

The K2 Walkathon was a special event that connected with our Unit of Inquiry, "Connecting to Characters," and the story "I Walk With Vanessa." The students collected sponsors and walked circles around the gym to raise funds for the pediatric department at Chonburi hospital, inspired by Vanessa's story. Thanks to the incredible efforts of the K2 class moms, the event ran smoothly, resulting in a remarkable total of 473,328 Thai Baht raised. Grade 2 also contributed 10,000 Baht, setting a generous example for others. The Walkathon exemplified empathy and the power of taking action. It showed students how their support could make a difference in the lives of children at the hospital, just like Vanessa in the story.

Design is a versatile discipline that shapes objects, systems, and experiences with purpose. It plays a crucial role in forming our surroundings, enhancing functionality, and facilitating effective communication. Design combines problem-solving, aesthetics, and user-centric thinking while considering cultural and environmental factors.

The Concordian Design Department has been busy this year developing the 'Design Dragons' of the future. At Concordian, we offer instruction in various design subjects, including product design, AR content, coding, and web design.

This year, we hosted a fantastic exhibition that fills our students with pride. We would like to express our gratitude to everyone who took the time to visit our exhibition, and we eagerly anticipate seeing you again next year!

Secondary Talent Show

The 2023 Secondary School Talent Show was a great success this year! As one of the hosts of the talent show I felt that the performances were outstanding and that they deserved every bit of credit they could receive. Moreover, props to the HSSG for planning such a great event.

I know that many of the performers must have been extremely anxious on that day (including me), however I feel that everyone worked together extremely well and managed to produce quite a show for the student body. The performances were extremely diverse, ranging from traditional instruments to outstanding vocal performances.

Working and coordinating with my fellow co-hosts also was a pleasure to be a part of and that we shared many fun moments throughout. I am extremely proud to be part of the talent show as it has provided a plethora of new experiences for me, like how it’s fine to be nervous and excited for a performance but the fact that you are courageous enough to be there makes all the difference.

From first hand experience, I know that it must be terrifying to be up on that stage and perform something in front of the entire school, and I feel that that is something I will never really get over. Fear is a natural part of that experience but don’t let that hold you back, it will be a shame if you give up on your dreams just because of it.

I know that there are lots more talents in the student body that are just waiting for a chance to shine and I believe that the talent show is indeed that stage for you! So do not be afraid to sign up next year, because believe it or not, it is going to be a blast.

I would like to thank Ms. Marijoy and the officers for really helping set up the show this year, and trying really hard to help coordinate the shows. I would also like to thank all the performers who performed on the talent show, without them the show would not have been possible. Also, let’s not forget the teacher's performances! They did extremely well and really made the show. Congratulations to all the winners and I Hope to see you on the stage next year!

Dear Concordians,

This year the English department organised and ran the second edition of the Speak! Competition, a public speaking event aimed at showcasing our students' oratory skills. All the candidates underwent an audition process and were vetted by a panel of 5 judges. Then they spent over 2 weeks editing, refining, honing, polishing and, finally, perfecting their speeches.

They attended individual practice sessions and even participated in the English Public Speaking CMA after school-- all in an effort to provide our community with their best possible performance. And what a performance that was! The speakers regaled us with authentic and heart-felt speeches, with emotional performances, and with our fair share of both anticipation and trepidation.

We couldn't be more proud of our students, and on behalf of the entire English department, I would like to thank and congratulate each and every one of you again! We teachers may put in all the work in the world to support you, but ultimately the success of an event like this rests on your shoulders, and you guys carried it like giants. Thank you!

Personal Project

The Personal Project Exhibition was held on March 16, 2023, where the Class of 2025 students put their work on display after a year-long inquiry into their personal interests. This year we were very excited to be back in person for the first completely face-to-face Personal Project cycle since the pandemic.

The Exhibition was our biggest to date! All students got to showcase their work in innovative ways, including: live musical performances on stage, movie screenings in a cozy theater, a selection of snack and drink tastings, video game trials, and many other interactive booths. We would like to thank Khun Thida, IT, maintenance, and all the related departments for helping the students’ work to be shown authentically.

Each booth was personalized to the students’ interests and experience in the Personal Project, which boasted a vast array of products and topics. From Hug Machines to soccer cleats to sugar-free candy to building a PC, each student showed a clear passion and deep investment in their personal interest this year.

Throughout the process every year, students work with experts and teachers both in and outside of Concordian to make this a reality. Our team of supervisors were extremely dedicated to building learning partnerships with the students. We would like to thank all of this year’s supervisors as their support and expertise are extraordinarily valuable for students to develop as learners in this process.

As the first externally moderated IB task students submit before they head to the Diploma Program, this is a very important milestone for each student to achieve. We thank our excellent team of internal moderators who work diligently to mark the reports ahead of the IB deadline. We are eagerly waiting for the final IB marks, which will be released later this year, but we are confident that all of our students grew, learned, and developed new skills throughout this meaningful journey.

The students in the Class of 2026 have now started their own path in the Personal Project. The entire Concordian Personal Project team is looking forward to the new and inventive ways that students can explore their interests.

students, together with Mr. Mark, were excited to perform and provide further expansionand introspection on the human experience through song.

Also this year, the contagious motivation of all HS Art students conveyed through the Art club, the Culture club, the impressive improvement of the G10s and the enthusiasm of the G9s. The clubs took this opportunity to present some of the works achieved this year and highlight the works of the seniors: the Art club with a welcoming installation and the Language and Culture club with calligraphies reflecting on the seniors' exhibitions.

Tourner dans le vide

During the first week of April, the senior students presented their bodies of work in an event which is not only one of the IB exams but also an important landmark in the lives of student artists. They chose the title of this exhibition from a song (Indila, 2014) to aptly describe this exhibition as a celebration of the beauty and complexity of the human experience, as captured in the fragments and moments that make up our lives. The works explore the multiple possibilities of existence and the human experience of being suspended in the vast and infinite expanse of the void.

The variety of perspectives on this theme are ranging from the contemplative to the playful, from the introspective to the hyperreal. The student artists have used a range of media, including painting, sculpture, digital art and photography to explore the emotions and experiences that shape our lives. This year we also had the wonderful opportunity to be accompanied by performances from Kyla as well as the Con Brio choir ensemble. The

As communicators but also risk takers, the G9 and G10 students selected their most achieved works, not only demonstrating their creativity and thinking skills but also their reflection skills. All the students were proud to have this unique occasion to display collectively their creativity, imagination, emotions and concepts. Their works invite the viewer to contemplate the human condition and find inspiration in the artists’ explorations of this timeless and universal theme.

The spring choir performance at Concordian was a joyous celebration of music and song. The students put on exciting performances and showcased their growth of musical skill on the stage. In addition, the Con Brio (“with passion and vigor”) Choir gave their stunning inaugural performance!

The students worked tirelessly to practice and perfect the music as well as all the logistics and details of the concert. It takes a coordinated effort by the community, staff, administration and students to produce such an exciting musical concert experience and the Concordian choirs want to thank everyone who attended and provided their support.

Our final song, “Sisi Ni Moja'', was chosen to exemplify one of Concordian’s greatest strengths - “We are one”. As the song states, “We all bruise, we all scar, we all fail but learn to thrive!” We hope you enjoyed sharing in this message of unity and togetherness that Concordian so beautifully embodies.

I am always honored to bring these voices together and build confidence and excellence in song. The excitement, joy and love for music at Concordian is thriving! Thank you to everyone for supporting the continuing success of vocal music at Concordian, and know that greater things are still to come.

Actual entries from Coach K’s Diary

“Athletics 2022-2023”

AISAA begins again! Bummer, each school has different rules in regards to players, spectators, and when they can start competition with other schools. Some are unable to join the league and only play in the tournament, a couple not able to play anything yet. Poor JV girls football, need games. An AISAA rule change – A player can play in her/ his own level and play up.

Basketball teams – each player has the dragons style of play now, should be ok. Good vibes at practices. G5U obviously didn’t play much during the past couple years. Basic skills and game environment needed. JV and Varsity have the foundation and are at the level to perform well this year. FUN to watch!

Volleyball – building year. Logos Cambodia back with our Varsity Girls Volleyball Tournament.

More interest than ever among both boys and girls. It will take this year and part of next to master the communication needed on the court and when that happens, it will be “Dragons Volleyball, Bump Set and Spike, because you know what we like.”

Table Tennis and Badminton – getting more practice time this year. Good job by coaches sharing training, occasionally missing players, and figuring out who is with whom in Badminton doubles. Should be fine in AISAA.

Varsity boys football look very strong and we finally have depth. JV boys and girls teams come with the right attitude, coachable, and wanting to improve. Younger levels football players are out of shape, basic skills needed for most boys and girls. A couple of players on each team will need to carry the load. Coaches have their work to do with this batch.

Swimming Dragons - Taiwan and Myanmar teams joining our meet. My, oh my are we solid! Would love to take the top in each age group to compete at Hawaii state meet. Parent communication is necessary in regards to not signing their child up for too many activities “in season”. Especially athletes who play in a team sport and swim or golf or are on a racket sport team.

Varsity boys football – AMAZING. Champions of AISAA League, AISAA Tournament, and 7th Annual SEAIS Football Tournament. Next year to Mandalay!

JV girls football – most exciting victories to earn AISAA Tournament Champions. And, the Coach did make a difference. JV boys won the League and next year we will try and host the boys at home to be sure of fair officiating.

Track and Field – Speed and endurance are there, strength is coming. Next year, top athletes in each event must train regularly. Super foundation for many kids though in our younger ages.

Dragons Golf – this year was practice and return to play. 2023-24 will be only the top golfers on the Dragons Golf Team that enter the ISGT Tournaments, abiding by their rule. Already more tournaments are scheduled for next year.

Squash – Rapidly improving. The team is preparing for the many legs of the 2023-24 Thailand Squash Tournament.

JV girls and JV boys Basketball – Rockin’ the basketball planet with quickness, swarming defense, and finally the much needed element – DESIRE. Dragons - Power Up!

Strength and Endurance - Proud of a few DP students who are making it happen!

Coaches are meeting with next year teams already, providing players with options for fitness through July, because DRAGONS ARE GOING TO SOAR EVEN HIGHER IN 2023-2024!

Tournament

On March 18th to 19th of 2023, the Concordian Squash Team took part in a TSRA Squash Youth Circuit hosted at the Rama Gardens Hotel Sports Complex. Ten Students from four different grades competed in the tournament across 5 age groups, of which Minnie (G6) took 1st place in the U13 Girls, Teak (G7) took 2nd place in the U13 boys, and Kenjung (G7) took 3rd place in the U15 boys.

Each participant showed great commitment and perseverance in each of their games as they often competed with players with far more experience than them. It was inspiring to witness every player treating this tournament as a valuable learning experience. Despite some players facing defeat, they eagerly sought additional games with their opponents to continue reflecting and improving their skills, and used time between games to practice with the more experienced players from different teams. We look forward to seeing more players play in the Squash Team as we compete in future tournaments.

It’s been a great year for Dragon’s golf. Congratulations to Pei Pei for winning the Dragon’s Cup and a special shout out to Kan for being the only player to compete in all the events this year. I would also like to offer a fond farewell to Matthew. He has been on the team since 6th grade and has throughout the years been a great member of the team, always trying to improve, never giving up, always a positive influence on all of us. He will be missed. Good luck going forward Matthew!

I was very happy to see so many new players. And a big shout out to all the parents for the wonderful support you have given to our young but growing program.

Boy’s Junior Varsity Volleyball Tournament @ Berkley - 23rd April 2023

Wow, what a weekend! Some team members had a gruelling one: Football on Saturday and a mammoth 9 hours of Volleyball on Sunday! The recently concluded AISAA volleyball tournament brought together some of the most talented teams from across the city, captivating fans with its high-intensity matches and nail-biting moments. The tournament showcased the epitome of athleticism, teamwork, and sheer determination as teams battled it out on the court, leaving spectators on the edge of their seats. The Boys got off to a shaky start losing to Well’s, but the game could not have been closer. After the first game, the team rested and regrouped and came out with grit and determination throughout the rest of the pool and managed to secure a semifinal place.

The team displayed exceptional skill and teamwork from the initial matches to the intense semifinal showdown. Their dominant displays against formidable opponents left spectators in awe. The players exhibited powerful serves, well-executed blocks, and precise attacks, displaying their commitment to the game and desire to succeed. Unfortunately, the team ran out of steam and lost in the semifinal. Several players stood out with their exceptional performances throughout the tournament. Ty and Ta emerged as forces to be reckoned with, consistently delivering powerful spikes that left opponents scrambling to defend. Outstanding serving from Thun throughout the tournament, and his precision and agility at the net were unparalleled. Finally, Captain Zen displayed his leadership and all-around skills from setting, spiking and serving, keeping the team motivated throughout.

The volleyball tournament marked the end of the season, delivering an enthralling experience for players and spectators alike. It served as a platform to showcase the developing talent, skill, and passion for the sport and had the highest number of teams (9) ever in our league. From the heartstopping matches to the exceptional performances of individual players, this tournament will be remembered as a defining moment in the AISAA calendar. Congratulations to the boys after finishing in second place overall in the league. See you in the Varsity Squad!!

This season was a very interesting one. We are growing as a program and have expanded to reach new heights (haha) with our athletes. We are excited that the JV boys team came together this year and even integrated some players new to the sport. It was incredible to see how much you have grown this year.

Nothing brings a coach more joy than seeing athletes adapt and develop new skills. From Ty’s outrageous blocks to Kurtis’ ever-growing vertical jump, we saw a lot of progress. Chino took on a tough role as setter this season and really came into his own. All of our players were impressive, but none more reliable than Deen’s serving.

I am looking forward to what next season brings and how varsity will grow and change!

Volleyball Girls

When I look back on the 2023 JV girls' volleyball season, I would like to take a moment to reflect on our team's performance. Overall, I am proud to say that we worked hard, played hard, had fun, and improved throughout the season.

From the very beginning, our team set a high standard for ourselves. We showed up to practices and games with a positive attitude, ready to push ourselves to be the best we could be. Our dedication and hard work paid off, as we steadily improved our skills and strategies with each passing week.

But it wasn't just about the hard work for us. We also made sure to have fun and enjoy every moment of the season. We cheered each other on, celebrated our successes, and lifted each other up during the tough moments. The bond we formed as a team was truly special, and it made every game and practice that much more enjoyable.

As we look back on the season, we can all agree that we improved in countless ways. Our serves got stronger, our passes got more accurate, and our teamwork became more seamless. We learned from each other and from our opponents, and we never stopped striving to be better.

I want to thank each and every member of the team for their hard work and dedication throughout the season. I am proud to have been a part of such a fine group of athletes, and I look forward to seeing what we can accomplish in the future.

Coach Luke

It was so great to see you all grow as players and as teammates. What a great season. I look forward to working with you next season as we develop. T he Concordian Dragons G3U mixed basketball team played very well in the G3U Basketball Tournament. The players were excited to play a tournament in this age group, got to make some new friends, and showed good sportsmanship the whole day. We would also like to thank the many parents who came to cheer. Next year, we will train hard for the AISAA G3U Basketball Tournaments for boys and girls.

Thanks, Raymond

T his year’s team surpassed expectations for the season considering that the previous two seasons of varsity boys' teams did not win a game in league play and had a point differential over negative 300. The boys finished second in league play and won five of their games in the AISAA tournament against national and international competition before falling short in the final.

The players improved their basketball skills and IQ over the season and displayed better teamwork the more they played together. Who knows what the boys can accomplish as they build more team chemistry next year?

D ragons JV Boys are the AISAA Basketball League and Tournament Champion this year!

These boys know that winning isn’t everything. Having fun, developing and improving skills, and good camaraderie stimulate them on and off the court. But they want to win every game! Team effort, focusing on their strength, and supporting each other have brought these boys the Championships.

Girls Basketball

This year’s JV girls basketball team is filled with unforgettable memories such as being the champion of the tournament and being the runner-up for the league’s champion. It is sad that this will be my last year in the JV team be cause I am really proud of this team, especially our journey through the tournament. Our success on the court was a result of the countless hours of hard work, dedication, and teamwork that we put in together. I will cherish the memories of our practices, games, and team bonding activities for years to come. The support and encouragement that we gave each other on and off the court is something that is really memorable. I am grateful to be a part of this team and would like to thank the support from our coaches, Mr. Brandon and Mr. Craig for encouraging us.

Fall Semester 2022

The grade 3 and under football team faced an extra challenge this year as it was the first postCOVID pandemic season. Many of the players were new to football or they had not played football for a long time. We had to learn or relearn many basic football skills.

Despite the difficulties, the boys never gave up and tried their best in every game. The team's captain, Keaton, was an exceptional leader. He did his best to be a leader and to keep the spirits of his team mates up in some tough games.

The team gained valuable experience and learned important skills, such as teamwork and sportsmanship. The players also developed their individual skills and discovered their strengths and weaknesses, which they can work on improving in the future. Winning will come with this group.

We are looking forward to the next season. The first and second grade students already have game experience. With Dayone leading the way as their new captain, they are excited to continue growing and learning together. We are sure that next season, with Dayone as Captain and a more experienced squad of players we will be very successful in the 2023 – 2024 football season.

The team will miss the 3rd graders as they move on to the G5U team. Good luck next season and be sure to come and cheer on your old G3U teammates next year. Go Dragons!

The G3U girls football team started the season with seven returning players from Grades 2 and 3. Our team members were ecstatic to be back on the field after the pandemic. Our team began with eight Grade 2 and Grade 3 players: Lada, Korbua, Proud, Prim, Charlotte, Katelyn, Stephanie, and Kaemsai. We also have Earn Earn, who is a third-grade player, joined us. Chevel, Cheetah, Mahya, Vita, Meyhar, and Ching Ching joined the team from Grade 2. We also welcomed five new Grade 1 players: Alyn, Sirin, Nana, and Punpun. The girls team had a record 19 footballers show up every Tuesday to play together.

Coach Cez and Coach Han were the team's dedicated coaches. Our coaches worked hard to improve each player's skills and abilities. The team began to acquire skills in order to increase their understanding and enjoyment of the game. Many fun activities and drills were used during practices to improve speed, strength, agility, coordination, athleticism, and, most importantly, teamwork.

Throughout the season, the Dragons participated in a number of games and tournaments, competing against other schools in the region.

We played our first friendly game versus KIS and Berkley in January. It was many of our players' first opportunity to see how to play a real game, understand positions, cheer on one another, and observe skills. We finished second in a tournament held at KIS in February. The season ended in March with a pleasant friendly tournament against the parents. Everyone had a great time playing football with their parents.

Let’s not forget to give thanks to Coach Toni who often assists with football matches during tournaments.

The G3U Dragons had a solid season overall, doing well in their matches and competitions and having a positive influence on the community. The team members gained useful knowledge about determination, cooperation, and sportsmanship as well as vital skills and competencies that will help them in the future.

Go Dragons!

Varsity Boys

This season the hopes were high, as it’s very rare to have a squad with so much talent. Most of our substitute players would have been in the starting seven in any other school team. With this as the premise, the aim was clear – to win it all!

Dragons picked up a few easy wins early in the league but were faced with a real challenge when playing against Berkeley. The small pitch size and the uneven grass proved to be unsuitable for the Dragon’s playing style which emphasizes passing and keeping the ball on the ground whenever possible. With not much left on the clock, Berkeley was up 4 – 2 and heading for the league title. But with skill, effort, and a relentless fighting spirit the Dragons were able to tie the game 4-4 before the final whistle. A few weeks later a win against Ekamai secured the league title for the Concordian Dragons!

With the league title in the bag, our dragons were the clear favorites to win the varsity football AISAA tournament. Like an unstoppable train, dragons beat each and every opponent they faced and lived up to the high hopes. The final whistle came and Concordian varsity football history was written. Both the AISAA league and the AISAA tournament trophies found their place at our very own dragon’s lair.

Coach K, Coach X, and I are sad to say goodbye to our two seniors, Tonnam and Pun-Pun, who have brought speed, strength, and skill to our offense. You will be missed next year.

A big congratulation to everyone who participated in the games throughout this long season. Go Dragons!

Coach Markus

G5U Boys

“Oh my, we have some work to do,” is what Coach Kij and I said in the beginning of the season. The boys from Grade 5 and Grade 4 were the most mixed up bunch we have seen since before covid. There were different skill levels, different sizes, different maturity levels, and different days of the week that they attended practice! The boys and Coaches talked it over and made a plan. We would train fundamentals first to improve technique and then focus on strategy and teamwork. We had to use games to test our idea, make adjustments, practice, and try again in the next game. This enabled us to prepare for the AISAA Tournament. Dragons played good skillful football and put it all together during the pool play. We made it to the finals, but by that time, we had ran out of gas, and still giving it their best, almost won the championship game, finishing 2nd place in the AISAA Tournament. Parents and Coaches from other teams made positive comments about our Concordian sportsmanship. Some of our players will advance to G7U football team next year and we would like to thank them and wish them “Good Luck”.

Coach Nui

G7U Boys

Through football this season, each player on the Dragons G7U team learned about life. There are ups and downs, wins and losses, and how we deal with them is what makes us a better student athlete and person. Like Coach K says, “the ball is round”. It bounced in our favor in the most exciting game of the year, a 3-2 come from behind win with ASB. And, there were some crazy bounces in our one loss to Ekamai, resulting in unfortunate goals against us. So, we finished 2nd in the AISAA League. One thing that we, G7U boys football, do know for sure, is that we have the greatest fans of any AISAA school. Thank you for your support.

It's difficult to find words to describe how proud Coach K, Coach X, and myself are of you, boys! What a fantastic feat, from start to finish. Not only were we dominating all of the games - but you faced the formidable challenge of keeping mental control in a couple of unnerving situations. This was a TEAM performance! Zen "the wall", making strikers look silly throughout the games by using his strength and positioning himself smartly. Jiho, playing solid football with consistently correct decision-making in tough spots. Our two last-minute reinforcements Pote and Kirk amazed the whole team with their contributions. "Coach Markus - they were really really good!" were Tonnam's words after the awards ceremony. A big thank you to both of you for stepping up last minute - you are already part of Concordian's team next year in the 8th annual SEAIS tournament! Let's not forget Troy in the backline - playing a full 24 minutes in the last two games, and being a relentless defender when needed. Kimi had to go and take care of academic duties after lunch but gave 100% in the first 4 games. Kimi style, he left everything on the field. ASB and KIS were lucky they didn't have to face Kimi "the killer bee" who just won't give space to the opponent strikers. Let us know the good news of your exam results when you get them, Kimi!

Our defense was solid, but our offense was the best this school has seen in my eight years at Concordian. Never before, has the team had such depth in the squad. The speed and technique of both Stephen and Patrick was unmatched in the tournament. No other players came close to what they showed in the 7 games. Patrick managing to score at least one goal in every single game (!). Tonnam, the captain of team, who played his first SEAIS tournament as a G7 and now his last as a G12, showed the team what it meant to give 100% when you feel 50%. Still managing to step up and score each time it was needed (two in the final). Jerry, flying past opponents, netting 4 goals against ASB. Pun Pun saying goodbye to the Dragons varsity team in a solid performance, scoring an important first goals against KIS in the 6th game. Last but not least, our last line of defence - our very own Burger. With his spider-like saves he could manage to save everything in life and death.

Impact went behind the scenes to interview Petch, G9, our world-class MotoSurf racer who competes around the globe.

Impact: Hi Petch, where did you go most recently and how did you feel?

Petch: In May, I competed in the Motosurf World Championship (Round 1) in Berlin, Germany. There were 100 racers across all categories from over 20 countries and I placed 3rd in the Stock R category.

Impact: Some of your classmates told us you had mechanical issues, what happened?

Petch: I was 2nd in qualifications, which was fair, based on how I was doing. The heats were also very strong, I came out of the heats in 2nd position fighting for 1st place in the Finals. Finale 1 was heartbreaking. I was P2 then the engine stalled mid-turn, I was dragged to shore. Finale 2 DNF, I dropped to 7th. AAargh. The team mechanics got to work and got the board ready for Finale 2. The start was perfect and I was P2 fighting for 1st, I finished Finale 2 with 2nd gaining just enough points to take home podium for Thailand. I knew I could get 2nd, but it's part of racing.

Impact: When is the next big event?

Petch: The next 3 big ones on the circuit are: August 11-13 in Sweden, October 6-8 in Croatia, and an interesting one on December 1-3 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Impact: Well, congratulations, Petch, and we do wish you the best for those upcoming competitions. Hopefully we can live stream you in PE classes in October. Go Motosurf Dragon!

G6 Service Program

Program

Throughout their first year in the MYP service learning program, the Grade 6 students have demonstrated great effort in creating impactful service projects for communities in need. They have shown passion for their chosen causes and have collaborated and managed themselves effectively to achieve their goals. As a result, they have gained confidence and knowledge about the true meaning of service learning. It is with pride that we acknowledge the students' dedication and initiative towards helping those in need. We are excited to see how they will continue to grow as service learning leaders and make a positive impact on the world. Well done, G6!

Garbage Masters

Hello! We are Mungbean, Ren, Hakao, Pipo, Butter, and Kanthe Garbage Masters service group! Our group went to help the government pick up trash at Ta Lhad Hua Ta Khe and through indirect service we donated recyclables like used plastic bottles to Wat Chakdaeng. The people at Wat Chakdaeng will then recycle what we donated to them. We achieved our goals of helping the environment and people in need. Additionally, we even gained a lot of knowledge during this project. We hope people can help pick up and recycle trash such as used plastic bottles, cardboard boxes, etc. to save the environment and to make it better.

The specific community targeted in our project is Wat Chakdaeng. Wat Chakdaeng is a temple that accepts used plastic objects to recycle by turning the plastic fibers into fabric. It was our main targeted community because a lot of our work in this service project was to collect trash and to give it to them. The knowledge that we gained was that many people could help pick up trash, and that we could make the environment a lot better and cleaner from just picking up trash. Our service project focused on the UN SDG “Life on Land” since we picked up trash which would help clean up many animals’ habitats and everyone would also have a good environment to live in.

Food 4 All

Hello! We are Plearn, Lookpear, Nita, Grace, Aimee, and Good - the Food 4 All service team! On this service project, we did indirect service. Our project was to collaborate with the Food For All club and set up a booth at the Zanook Fest. We raised a total amount of 9,000 baht and the money will be donated to the organization

to help people without food resources. We chose this project because we wanted to help those people in need. Our SDG is Zero Hunger and this connects to our service project because we wanted to raise awareness and money to donate to มูลนิธิร่วมกตุญญู. We learned many things along the way, such as by working together we can accomplish anything because it takes more than one person to do a service project. This project means a lot to our team because knowing we get to help the people in need and donate money to them is really great.

G7 Service Program

As the 2022-23 school year draws to a close, G7 students are now reflecting on the impact of their service work in the past months. With the relaxation of covid related restrictions, this year's G7 cohort were fortunate to have some of their first direct service experiences since entering the MYP. Students had the chance to dive deeper into their enquiries by identifying the authentic needs of their targeted community and assessing how they could take action to meaningfully contribute to those needs. In small groups, students collaborated to execute a diversity of projects, including collecting trash to recycle, planting mangrove trees to alleviate flooding, creating educational supplies for students in need, and tutoring elementary students, to name a few. Despite the obstacles, the G7 students persevered to complete service projects that would have a lasting impact on both themselves and others.

In this service project, our intention was to make books for children and to provide them with a source of education and enhance their lives through learning. According to many reports, more than 100,000 children do not have access to books for education. This service project’s initiative supports SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions). Giving access to notebooks to children who are in need of them can bring peace to society. It allows the children to trust and care about their education. In this project, we used the ATL skills of research, communication, and social skills. We researched a problem that is affecting the world and learned more about the organization that is related to our SDG. We then contacted the organization and learned about the quality of education in Thailand. Finally, we went to meet the organization and made numerous books with many other people. From this service project, we learned about various elements of life, such as how to use recycled paper and make it into something that can promote learning opportunities for all children. Even though the books we made weren’t much, small actions and gestures can make a huge impact on someone’s life.

The recycling plastic project has highlighted the importance of addressing our plastic waste problem. It has allowed us to explore ways of reducing our plastic consumption and promoting sustainable practices. Through this project, we have learned about the environmental impact of plastic waste, the recycling process, and the benefits of using recycled materials. We also had the opportunity to collaborate and educate others on the importance of recycling. Overall, this project has been a meaningful and insightful experience, emphasizing the need for collective action to address environmental issues.

Ami, Jane, Tepan, Kimmie, Proud

We all participated in our service project to clean underneath the Kanchanaphisek Road highway. We picked up the trash underneath the road and put it all in trash bags, then we placed them into a recycling bin. Our service project specifically targeted the village called Chayapuk/Chayapek and the targeted SDGs are Climate Action, Life on Land, Life Below Water. This is because we are helping the animals by cleaning the trash, saving their habitats, and restricting the animals from eating trash and dying. We all felt that cleaning this will not really impact the world, so this showed us how much the world really needs our help.

Grade 8 Service Program

As another school year draws to a close, it is a good opportunity for us to pause and reflect on all that was accomplished along the way. Our Grade 8 students have been hard at work on their service projects, which will be concluding near the end of June. We restructured the program this year to include two smaller projects, rather than one large one. The focus was placed on “active service” which means the students go out into their chosen communities to participate in various service activities and document their work along the way. For each project, students worked with a new group in order to help them learn how to work with different people. This helped to create a wide range of projects which could meet many needs throughout various communities. Students are now in the final stages of their projects and will soon be showcasing their work for all to see. Congratulations on all of your hard work, Grade 8 Students!

Our project is about fundraising to help children in orphanages have a better quality of life and improving their mental health by donating living essentials as well as some masks and hand sanitizers and new toys. Even though we worked on it for only around 3 months, our team made a very decent start, had good results and worked very efficiently with time. From the start, we organized our files, brainstormed and planned out the entire general idea of the project as well as implemented some rules and a structural group chat in which work was divided clearly for all members, and deadlines that were to be met were enforced and written. This helped support our ability to work under a short amount of time, making sure that everyone had a fair amount of work and lessened our stress and pressure during tight times. We were able to successfully get past innumerable obstacles, such as in-person meeting restrictions, time restrictions as well as other formalities that were a waste of time, but nevertheless required to be met for our project to be successful. All in all, our project is on a pretty satisfactory and timely track, and we would like to express deep thanks to everyone for supporting us substantially, especially Diya (G7) who was our amazing volunteer/sales assistant. For those who have invested their time and supported us, don’t worry, you will get to see our good results after the project is wrapped up and completed; and to the team: Don’t forget, we still have to wrap this up!

Deen, Maggie and Proud, with Mr. Gowri

Our service project for this semester revolves closely around an issue within the Concordian community: food waste. This project addresses the food waste produced by the school community by turning it into compost that will be used for growing plants and vegetation. We collect buckets full of food scraps daily and put them into a mixture of dry leaves and water, which will ater be used to fertilize plants. A lesson that comes with this is understanding the value of sustainable practices. Not only is it beneficial to the environment, but also teaches resourcefulness rather than wastefulness.

Grade 9 Service Program

After a number of years of being unable to experience a fully immersive year-long Independent Service Project, Grade 9 took the helm, blazing a trail of extraordinary achievements. With unwavering determination, they embarked on a transformative path, undergoing multiple cycles of inquiry before settling on their final projects. Along the way, they encountered setbacks that forced them to reconsider their plans and, in some cases, start entirely anew. Witnessing students reflect on these failures and exhibit adaptability and perseverance was nothing short of inspiring. Even those who didn't achieve their anticipated impact garnered invaluable lessons in planning, prioritization, and time management, skills that will undoubtedly bolster their future success. The culmination of their year-long efforts will be showcased at the Service Learning Exhibition on June 22, where students eagerly anticipate sharing their profound experiences this year. While a few outstanding tasks, including the notable Hoop for Hearts house build trip to the Nan province, lie ahead, Henry and Ken were kind enough to provide an update on their group's extraordinary journey so far to give you a small sample of what this cohort have accomplished this year.

Hoop for Hearts - Mlabri House Build

Hoop for Hearts is a G9 Service Project that is devoted to fostering unity in rural and diverse communities such as the Mlabri. We, as a team, seek to bridge the gaps that separate the low income and high income families by improving their housing. Environmental consciousness is another crucial aspect of "Hoop for Hearts". We will engage in tree planting initiatives, crop planting and funding for solar panels as a renewable energy source.

We understand the responsibility for our planet and apart from our house build, we aim to create a greener future for the Mlabri community and future generations to come. "Hoop for Hearts" recognizes the unity and support in the Concordian community. The project goes beyond individual contributions, and recognizes the partnership and unity of everyone around us. Without your help and support "Hoop for Hearts" wouldn't be possible. Above all, "Hoop for Hearts" aspires to inspire the Concordian community and show that, with hard work, time, and effort, you can achieve anything. Embracing that challenge and working towards the goals will create a strong foundation and a lasting change.

Through several Campaigns "Hoop for Hearts' has raised a total of 150,000+ Baht, that will be going to the house build, crop planting, renewable energy, everyday life necessities, seeds, etc. The money was raised from our Zanook Festival booth on April 5th, and the Hoop for Hearts Tournament on May 6th. We sold 2 colored pouch bags, 2 colored duffle bags, and wristbands, all of which were designed from our personal passions and desires to improve lives. Through this project we have learned valuable life skills such as leadership skills, intercultural understanding, empathy, compassion, and hard work that will forever stick with us throughout our life. Let's shape a better future for the Mlabri community and, in particular, this family of 5. From the bottom of our hearts and the family that we are helping this project, we want to thank the CIS community. In the beginning it seemed to be impossible for the three of us, and at many times we doubted the feasibility of the project. However, we persevered through the challenges and this family will have a new home in time for the rainy season. We are very proud of what we achieved but without everyone who supported we truly wouldn't have accomplished this project!

HIV Awareness CIS 2026

“Hate AIDS, not the people with it.” AIDS and HIV are stigmatized in all sorts of places, yet they remain an omnipresent matter that must be understood. As part of our service project, we have made it our mission as the HIV Awareness CIS 2026 group to raise awareness about AIDS and HIV within our Concordian community.

With this aim in mind, we split our project into three central portions:

1. We took to social media. Via Instagram, we created a center of information, a platform where knowledge regarding AIDS became accessible, and a common medium that almost all students had access to. Our Instagram consisted of media regarding the following two steps as well.

2. We sold some ice cream. Awareness is only made possible through research and understanding. That said, funding for such ambiguous and rarely discussed issues can often be scarce. As the Zanook Festival approached us, we decided to raise money by selling ice cream during the festival, because who doesn’t like ice cream, on a hot, sunny afternoon. Along with ice cream, we sold custom-made pins and notebooks, reaching teachers and a younger audience and carrying our fundraising beyond Zanook. Through this campaign, we managed to raise over 22,000 baht for the Thai Red Cross AIDS Research Center.

3. Donation and experience culmination. After meeting our goal of raising 20,000 baht, we got in contact with the Thai Red Cross AIDS Research Centre, and with the help of Khun Fah, Mr. Ben, and Khun Aoh, we managed to schedule a visit to their headquarters and the Anonymous clinic. During this visit, we gained brilliant insight into the biology of AIDS, the medical and pharmaceutical procedures to deal with it, and the processes that took place inside the Anonymous clinic and research facilities.

With this newly-gained knowledge, we aim to continuously promote awareness of AIDS and HIV on our Instagram platform with our community as a way to reduce the stigma and misunderstanding of such a prevalent health issue.

G10 Service as Action Experiences

In 2022-23 the G10 SA projects initiated by the students focused on Research and Innovation and/or Advocacy and Awareness. Research and Innovation projects enabled students to combine critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity, to foster long-term sustainable change. Advocacy and Awareness projects enabled students to utilize various platforms, such as social media campaigns, or creating informative resources, to shed light on topics such as environmental sustainability, gender equality, or mental health awareness. By spreading knowledge and inspiring others to take action, students can contribute to long-term systemic change.

Engaging in service as action experiences provided students with valuable opportunities to make a positive difference in the world. Whether through advocacy and awareness or research and innovation, students actively contributed to their communities and developed a deeper understanding of social issues. These experiences not only benefited the individuals or causes being served but also cultivated empathy, fostered personal growth, and instilled a sense of social responsibility among the students. By embracing the different types of service as action, students became aware that they can truly make the world a better place. The following is a sample of the G10 projects from this year.

G10 SA Project 1: Autism Awareness

Objective: Raise awareness about autism to combat misconceptions and stereotypes.

Who: Im, Peam, Rinny, Mr. Luke Fiander and Mr. Luke Watson.

Approach: Created Instagram posts to educate and increase understanding.

Impact: Although the desired likes and shares were not achieved, the project successfully raised awareness and fostered a more open-minded perspective on autism.

G10 SA Project 3: Social Media Campaign on Overfishing

World Scholar’s Cup

The World Scholars Cup club is happy to be back with a bang for the 2023-24 season. Our numbers have tripled from around 10 people to over 30. Concordian students recently participated in the Bangkok Regional rounds hosted at Bangkok Patana. As a club, we were able to attain many medals and trophies. All Concordian teams managed to qualify for the Globals, which will be occuring during the summer and early next academic year. Congrats to G6: Budh, Leo, Term, Kan, Keit, G7: Airi, Kenta, Rita, Kirin, Nina, Inging, Kenjung, G8: Libang, Yuro, Mark, Imboon, Candy and G9: Henry, Otto, Praew!

The club is looking forward to sending multiple delegations to the Global Rounds; particularly as the WSC Globals are once again returning to Bangkok at the Aksra Theater in late August and early September. In the Global Rounds, students will get the opportunity to interact with peers from all over the world, as well as test their rigorous preparation over the previous summer. Additionally, participants have the opportunity to qualify for the Tournament of Champions hosted annually at Yale University. Miki and I had a fun time at last year's Globals, so we are excited to be introducing the event to a new generation of scholars.

The club is looking to provide additional support, in terms of a Summer training program, where members will train for the upcoming Global Rounds. As a club, we are ready to prepare members for the remainder of this season, but also look forward to introducing WSC to a new cohort of students next school year. We believe that with our plans for more structured preparation and support, there is much to be excited about for the WSC club.

Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity (H4H) is an internationally-recognised organization devoted to funding and helping to construct buildings for those in need. The H4H club of Concordian International School aims to assist the organization, to which we have contributed yearly both financially and in terms of physical laboring. Over the course of this academic year, we’ve raised and donated 90,000THB and we’ve organized 3 site buildings, an activity in which club members participate in the construction itself. The builds consisted of house painting, where we funded and helped paint the exterior and interior of a house for a large family residing in Pathum Thani; and the last two builds were buildings of a latrine for Sagad 80 School, and an underfunded and developed school in Chachoengsao, consisting of laying the floors and walls, along with digging a hole for the septic tank.

As for raising money, we have participated in many food sale events, along with merchandise sales. The club members would submit their designs for the club merchandise, then a poll would be created to select the final design. By doing so, the members are able to actively participate in the club’s activities aside from the site buildings. Club members recount their experience at Chachoengsao site:

“The site-building was an eye-opener for me, but even more so were the fundraising events. Each year we organized many fundraising events, which we club members are encouraged to participate in. In that sense, I helped our club sell drinks and snacks during the football competition, which was really hectic and quite fruitful. Aside from these events, we also voted on the club t-shirt design and sold 5 shirts myself. Moving aside to the actual build, I found it to be extremely worth my time despite the physical exertion. In this experience, I learnt the hardship of construction, and the reality of how physically demanding these construction projects are. I hope that through my contribution to the club, I, along with my fellow members, are able to help make a difference, no matter how small, in the local community. ”

Model United Nations (MUN)

The MUN club has been an absolutely wild ride this year, starting with hosting and running Concordian’s first CISMUN, to attending several conferences hosted by other international schools around Bangkok, to college level conferences. A particularly good experience for me was THAIMUN, because I was able to meet delegates from all over the world (America, Japan, Korea, Cambodia, etc.), and it felt a little surreal to discuss national topics in a room filled with actual people from all over the world. I am extremely proud of all our new and old delegates for showing so much spirit and enthusiasm in attending conferences this year, and am extremely grateful for all the friendships formed within the vast MUN community.

The MUN club has attended a flurry of conferences, as schools host their first in-person committee sessions since the start of the pandemic. Club members went to ICS, St. Andrews 107, Brighton College, and EIS to engage in fruitful debate and discussion. I myself had the opportunity to chair for the first time in EISMUN’s UNSC committee about countering terrorism. Chairing gave me a new perspective MUN, and will undoubtedly aid my approach to delegating. The committee featured some old friends, but also some new faces. I look forward to seeing them at CISMUN II which the club is planning for next year!

Throughout the past year, our members attended several conferences, showcasing exceptional diplomacy, critical thinking, and teamwork skills. Whether it is defending their assigned country, or negotiating to reach a final resolution. I personally attended 4 conferences - one as secretary general, two as chairs, one as delegate. My second year in MUN club consists of memorable experiences and hardships. MUN is not just a simulation of the UN, it is about friendship, diplomacy, and teamwork. On behalf of the MUN officers 2022-2023, we are extremely proud of the club!

Middle School Student Government (MSSG)

This school year the MSSG had the opportunity to organize many in-person events, including the dunk tank for the Festival of Love, selling roses for Valentine's Day, house competitions, assemblies every week, and activities on the final day. Importantly, we were also able to complete a policy proposal.

Valentine’s Day was one of the most successful fundraisers this year. In total, there were 325 orders and we were able to earn 25,780 baht. However, we faced a problem of forgetting to order roses beforehand, so when we went to buy the roses almost at the last minute, it was very difficult to find ones that cost the right amount where the MSSG could still earn a profit. While organizing this presented challenges, with everyone’s assistance and hard work to prepare and deliver the roses to students and staff, the event went quite well.

We also participated in the Festival of Love with the HSSG. This was a very successful event and we were able to set up a dunk tank that attracted many people to play. We had a Google Form sent out for everyone to nominate teachers or students for the dunk tank, which was very interesting to see since some students and teachers got nominated a lot of times. Students really enjoyed the dunk tank at the festival.

House competitions are small events where everyone gets a chance to play some sports against other teams in their grade to earn points. This year, the first house competition was dodgeball, then Kahoot, then Capture the Flag, and for the last quarter, the seventh grade had dodgeball again, while the sixth and eighth grade plan on playing handball. Many students enjoy competing in house competitions and we hope to expand their variety next year.

In addition to events, we submitted a policy to propose opening the Vive Cafe downstairs for students during break time due to the snack lines being very long. The proposal discussed how providing an additional snack bar can allow students to have more time to buy and eat snacks. We also suggested an increase in the variety of food items in the snack bar. However, as it was a busy school year, we were not able to complete the other proposals that were originally planned.

Assemblies are held every Wednesday afternoon for this school year. Each assembly includes athletic notices for each week and bookmark presentations every other week. Sometimes we would be able to see students present their service projects or teachers presenting an activity. “Two Truths, One Lie” was a fun part of our assemblies this year, with teachers or students

High School Student Government (HSSG)

stating three things about themselves and having each grade guess the lie. It always gets very exciting when it comes to finding out the actual lie.

As we are approaching the last day of school, we are undoubtedly anxious about organizing events to have a combination of sports and non-physical activities. We want to make the last day a special and fun day for everyone.

Being part of the MSSG can be a fulfilling experience that allows you to make a positive impact in your school community. Hosting events, such as the rose sale on Valentine's Day and the school house competitions, can be exciting and challenging but ultimately rewarding, as they bring students together and promote a sense of unity and belonging. It's important to approach these events with creativity and continuously strive to create a welcoming and supportive school environment for all. We hope that future MSSG members will have the same love that we share for the MSSG.

I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to all members of the I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to all members of the secondary community for making this school year a success. As I will be graduating this spring, I am so proud to say that my last year at Concordian is truly a memorable one.

To the students, thank you for your active participation and enthusiasm in our events. To the administrations, thank you for your dedication and commitment to guiding us in our endeavors. Last but not least, to the members of the HSSG, and especially our advisor Ms. Marijoy, thank you for your hard work and dedication to creating positive change in our community!

Message from the Seniors

I have been in the student council and student government since grade 6, and – except for grade 9 – I have spent every single year of my secondary school with these amazing people. After putting in a lot of my own time to plan numerous events and resolve countless suggestions by the student body, I still do not regret any of the time spent here. Although everyone has their own lives to live, the fact that everyone surrounding me, especially all the officers, is putting in their best effort motivates me to try to work just as hard. Even Ms. Marijoy was spending every minute of every day reading our messages on Google Chat; who can possibly slack off when you’re surrounded by the most determined people? I am really grateful for my experience with these amazing, talented people.

As for my juniors, I would like to leave a couple of messages. If you ever find yourself asking yourself if joining the HSSG is worth the time, I’d say go for it. Not only will you feel good about helping out your community, but you will also get to build new friendships with people you might never have approached if not for HSSG. Having a network of friends you can count on is never a bad idea. Also, as for those who might not be interested in joining the HSSG, it’s also alright. I understand that you want to spend your time doing things you would enjoy more doing. However, some of your peers are giving up their precious youth to make your community a better place, so please support them in any way you can. If you ever have any ideas, a simple suggestion will go a long way to helping them achieve their goals. I hope everyone will enjoy their last few years of secondary school.

Valentine’s Day

The HSSG's preparation for Valentine's day is undoubtedly the most anticipated event by the student body. High school students eagerly look forward to Valentine's events as they provide an opportunity to express and celebrate their feelings of love, friendship, and affection towards their peers. The main event of this year's celebration was the distribution of gifts--red and white roses, chocolates, and adorable teddy bears, all of which were available to students via anonymous envelopes. The HSSG thoroughly organized all of the gifts, but the most exciting part was creating the flower bouquets. We carefully made each bouquet, hoping to bring a smile to the face of the recipient upon delivery.

Miki, Grade 9 Student Representative

There were concerns as to whether the HSSG would be able to carry out their responsibilities smoothly with the resumption of activities in person. However, their exemplary performance since then has put all doubts to rest. The members have proven to, and have only further burgeoned in the past years in their endeavor to keep the school community positive and engaged.

I had the privilege of working with most of them as one of the MSSG advisors during 2018-2020. It should come as no surprise that even back then, they have displayed dedication to the student community by voicing students' concerns to allow backpacks, organising the first MSSG Sports Day in June, and requesting to have a "Little Corner Shop" to accommodate G6-G8 students. Their batch was also the first one to run the MSSG Valentine's Day Gifts Sales.

This year, HSSG raised funds for a charitable cause which is a significant milestone for the organisation, and thanks to our very supportive administrators, Mr. Bill and Mr. Laurent, and to all the teachers who volunteered to be dunked, we raised enough to send necessary supplies to the Baan Dek Foundation for communities in need up in Chiangmai. This year is also a great collaboration of work with Mr. Mike Daly, the MSSG advisor.

I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude and sincere congratulations to all the HSSG officers and class representatives for their hard work. Spirit weeks, assemblies, Valentine's Day, Talent show, Dunk Tank, Festival of Love, and Sports Day involve extensive planning and preparation, and they have successfully accomplished all of these activities. I beam with pride as they demonstrated great leadership.

Lastly, I would like to wish good luck to the HSSG 2023-2024 with new leadership. With the solid foundation you have now, I know you will accomplish more and continue to demonstrate your remarkable leadership skills.

April Spirit Week + Dunk Tank

The exhilarating 'Spirit Week' at Concordian International School, with its myriad of enthralling activities and themes, brought forth a wave of cheerfulness. This delightful week provided students and faculty with a respite from the rigors of academia, nurturing amicable bonds and fostering a sense of unity.

A crowd-pleasing event, the Teacher Dunk Tank, saw our esteemed educators gamely subjecting themselves to the whims of fate, as students eagerly lined up to send them plunging into the watery depths. The uproarious laughter that ensued created an atmosphere of lighthearted fun, strengthening the connection between students and faculty.

Another captivating theme, 'Guess Who', offered an opportunity for students to don creative disguises and challenge their peers to recognize them beneath clever costumes. The week's joyous ambiance united us all in the spirit of camaraderie and amusement.

Our cherished 'Spirit Week' shall remain a treasured memory, a testament to the convivial and vibrant atmosphere that prevails within the halls of Concordian International School.

Interview with Khim's Family

Fifteen years ago, we made the decision to choose Concordian for Khim, who was the only child in our family. We chose Concordian because it is an international school that teaches the full IB Program, offers Chinese language instruction alongside English, and, most importantly, we were impressed by the conduct of the students during our school visit, which reflected Thai manners. We believed that this was an important alue for children to learn in addition to academic knowledge.

Today, after 15 years, Khim is graduating from G12 and moving on to university. Over the years, Concordian has helped Khim grow as a young adult and gain skills and abilities from the useful IB Program. One of the notable achievements of Concordian is its excellent critical thinking, coupled with language proficiency in both English and Chinese, while maintaining the natural beauty of being a "Thai child." This has erfectly met our expectations from 15 years ago.

We would like to express our gratitude to the entire Concordian community during the past 15 years, including the administrators, teachers, staff, and janitors.

Choosing Concordian on that day was the right decision.
