Bankers We outsiders can only speculate about how 5 prominent banksters and a journalist were wiped off the planet earth within the past several weeks. There is basically three possible scenarios, but the one not being considered is the possibility that these individuals may have had enough money and power to erase their names from the system by faking their deaths. You decide which is more plausible based on the facts: 1) Suicide 2) Murder / Assassination 3) Faked their deaths If you think “faking death” is ludicrous or ridiculous, then why is everyone accepting ‘SUICIDE’ before any investigations or autopsies are performed. 5 dead banksters and 1 missing journalists all wiped off the face of the planet in a span of several weeks —- all coincidentally caused by suicide — is just as ridiculous a theory to accept. The odds are far greater that they all conspired to fake their deaths. Dead Bankster #1 Mike Dueker: 50-year-old Mike Dueker, who had worked for Russell Investment for five years, was found dead close to the Tacoma Narrows Bridge in Washington State, says AP. Dead Bankster #2 William Broeksmit: A 58-year-old former senior executive at Deutsche Bank AG, William Broeksmit, was found dead on January 26 in his home after an apparent suicide in South Kensington in central London.

Dead Bankster #3 Karl Slym: The next day, January 27, Tata Motors managing director Karl Slym, 51, was found dead on the fourth floor of the Shangri-La hotel in Bangkok. Police said he could have committed suicide. Mr. Slym was staying on the 22nd floor with his wife, and was attending a board meeting in the Thai capital. Dead Bankster #4 Gabriel Magee: Another tragic incident occurred on January 28, when a 39-year-old Gabriel Magee, a JP Morgan employee, died after falling from the roof of its European headquarters in London. Dead Bankster #5 Richard Talley: Richard Talley, 57, and the company he founded in 2001 were under investigation by state insurance regulators at the time of his death late Tuesday, an agency spokesman confirmed Thursday. It was unclear how long the investigation had been ongoing or its primary focus. A coroner’s spokeswoman Thursday said Talley was found in his garage by a family member who called authorities. They said Talley died from seven or eight self-inflicted wounds from a nail gun fired into his torso and head. Also unclear is whether Talley’s suicide was related to the investigation by the Colorado Division of Insurance, which regulates title companies. Missing Oil Markets Reporter David Bird: The case of David Bird, the oil markets reporter who had worked at the Wall Street Journal for 20 years and vanished without a

trace on the afternoon of January 11, has this in common with the other three tragedies: his work involves a commodities market – oil – which is under investigation by the U.S. Senate’s Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations for possible manipulation. The FBI is involved in the Bird investigation. Bird left his Long Hill, New Jersey home on that Saturday, telling his wife he was going for a walk. An intentional disappearance is incompatible with the fact that he left the house wearing a bright red jacket and without his life-sustaining medicine he was required to take daily as a result of a liver transplant. Despite a continuous search since his disappearance by hundreds of volunteers, local law enforcement and the FBI, Bird has not been located. What—Our Electricity is Hazardous to our Health?! by Shanti Rivers It may sound strange to hear that the electricity in your home is hazardous to your health. You’ve likely lived your entire life in a home with electricity and never thought once about it. How could it possibly be dangerous? The dangers of the electromagnetic fields (EMFs) coming from your electricity and all your appliances have not gotten the press that the EMFs from cell phones and WiFi have gotten, but they’re just as real. Like radiation from wireless devices, EMFs generated by electricity also erode your immune system, break DNA strands, and cause cell malfunctioning in a number of ways—all leading to disease in the end.

Electrical EMFs are Linked to Many Diseases

In his autobiography, Dirty Electricity: Electrification and Diseases of Civilization, Epidemiologist Sam Milham states that major diseases plaguing modern man may well be triggered by the EMFs generated by a home’s electricity. In looking at statistics in the US that spanned the 20th century, he discovered an alarming link between electrification in US homes and deaths due to heart disease, cancer, diabetes, depression and suicide. Many studies have backed up Milham’s conclusions by correlating EMF exposure with a wide variety of

The Green Directory

health symptoms and diseases. But until lately, no one has been able to clearly determine exactly how EMFs impact our cell biology. In 2013, M.L. Pall published a review of 23 studies on the effects of EMFs on the human body. In closely studying them, he was able to demonstrate how EMFs have their impact: they impair proper biological

functioning by knocking calcium ions (which create calmness and balance), out of our cells. They also knock out potassium ions (which regulate brain function), and lithium ions (which regulate mental stability). All this leads to DNA breakage and chronic oxidative stress—and eventually bring on disease.

No Electricity, Less Disease

On an interesting note, Milham’s research also makes sense of the fact that the Amish, a group of people who don’t use electricity, have lower rates of diabetes, heart disease, suicide and cancer than those who do. They also have surprisingly low levels of neurodegenerative disease—and not one case of ADHD on

record.

How Can We Possibly Live Without Electricity? It seems ridiculous to think of trying to live without electricity. Most of us can’t conceive of living without our cell phones or WiFi—how could we possibly live in modern society without electricity? Fortunately, it’s not necessary. You can simply get EMF protection. There are several companies that focus on protection against electrical EMFs. Unfortunately, most offer products that are only designed to protect against “dirty” electricity. Dirty electricity is indeed dangerous—it’s caused by the use of voltage shifts in many energy-efficient electronic devices, such as dimmer switches, computers, and fluorescent lights. But the problem is that all types of electricity, not just the dirty kind, is dangerous. Only one company addresses all the problems of EMFs from electricity: EarthCalm. It’s worth checking out their Home EMF Protection System. Shanti Rivers has done extensive research on the effects of environmental influences on health, especially focusing on electromagnetic pollution. She’s found that using EMF protection products (www.earthcalm.com/ products/) is extremely effective.

Help Stop the Navy’s Assault on Whales! Pierce Brosnan speaks out in defense of whales. The Navy is prepared to kill nearly 1,000 whales and other marine mammals during the next five years of testing and training with dangerous sonar and explosives. Tell Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel to direct the Navy to adopt commonsense safeguards that will protect marine mammals during routine training without compromising military readiness. I am appalled at the Navy’s fiveyear plan for training and testing with sonar and explosives, which would needlessly kill or maim thousands of whales and other marine mammals. The Navy should be putting safeguards in place that will dramatically reduce the threat to whales without

compromising military readiness. But, instead, the Navy is preparing to defend its unconscionable plan in court. Please direct the Navy to abandon its courtroom defense and move instead to protect whales from needless suffering and death during routine training. Most importantly, the Navy should put vital areas for marine mammals off-limits to sonar and explosives. Accord-

ing to the scientific community, that is the most effective means of reducing harm. The evidence is clear: the Navy can continue to protect our national security AND protect marine mammals at the same time. I urge you to direct the Navy to do so This mid-frequency sonar will bombard whales with noise so intense — up to 236 decibels — it can actually cause their internal organs to hemorrhage. It’s distressing that the Navy refuses to put commonsense precautions in place that could protect whales during routine training — especially because taking such steps would in no way compromise our military readiness. Whales should not have to suffer or die for military practice. -Pierce Brosnan, Actor, Activist, NRDC Member

5th Floor County Government Building 701 Ocean St. or call 831-454-2200 In fact, microchipping can literally cause malignancies (meaning harmful and deadly cancer). A few years ago, Katherine Albrecht, who co-wrote Spychips: How Major Corporations and Government Plan to Track Yo u r E v e r y Move, issued a press release/ commentary on research that has proven microchips can cause deadly tumors: ‌microchip implants have induced cancer in laboratory animals and dogs, says privacy expert and long-time VeriChip opponent Dr. Katherine Albrecht. As the AP will report, a series of research articles spanning more than a decade found that mice and rats injected with glass-encapsulated RFID transponders developed malignant, fast-growing, lethal cancers in up to 1% to 10% of cases. The tumors originated in the tissue surrounding the microchips and often grew to completely surround the devices, the researchers said. Albrecht first became aware of the microchip-cancer link when she and her “Spychipsâ€? co-author, Liz McIntyre, were contacted by a pet owner whose dog had died from a chip-induced tumor. Albrecht then found medical studies showing a causal link between microchip implants and cancer in other animals. Before she brought the research to the AP’s attention, the studies had somehow escaped public notice (Intel Daily*). So there it is: RFID microchips

can cause deadly cancer. Still I have yet to see one article about a city or county proposing a mandatory microchipping law that mentions that microchips can cause malignant tumors. In S a n t a C r u z C o u n t y, which now prop o s e s to make R F I D microchipping mandat o r y , resident Brenda Cruden is worried about the potential health effects of implanting a chip in her dog, saying, “I want to know what [microchipping is] going to do in the long term to the animal. What is the material made of? Is it stationary? . . . No vet can tell me. I haven’t had any satisfying answers yet. Cruden went on to say that she’s “against the county’s proposed mandate due to lack of information about the chips and their impacts. So not only are state and municipal governments not forthcoming about the possible harmful health effects of RFID microchipping, they may very well be keeping that information from their residents! Indeed, for Santa Cruz County, I have not read one article that mentions that RFID chips can cause cancer or that for some, RFID technology may offend their religious sensibilities, including Catholics who populate approximately 31% of California’s 38 million residents (with Evangeli-

cal Protestants populating 18%, and Mainline Protestants populating 14%, for a whopping 63% of Californians who are Christian and may oppose RFID microchipping). I’m fairly certain some of those millions of people populate Santa Cruz County. Yet Melanie Sobel, General Manager of the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter, says mandatory microchipping of Santa Cruz County dogs and cats “is a no-brainer . . . It’s

beneficial in every single way. No it’s clearly not beneficial, and yes Santa Cruz County residents, it appears that they don’t want you to use your brain in research or opposition. It looks like they may even be purposely keeping information from you. American Agriculture May Eradicate the Monarch Butterfly Unless Swift Action Is Taken By Dr. Mercola You may be aware that bees are dying in large numbers across the globe, courtesy of the ever-increasing presence of toxins in our environment. But did you know that the monarch butterfly is also becoming endangered, and for the same reason?

As reported by the New York Times:

“Hoping to focus attention on the plight of the monarch butterfly at a North American summit meeting... a group of prominent scientists and writers urged the leaders of Mexico, the United States and Canada to commit to restoring the habitat that supports the insect’s extraordinary migration across the continent. Calling the situation facing the butterfly ‘grim,’ the group issued a letter that outlined a proposal to plant milkweed, the monarch caterpillar’s only food source, along its migratory route in Canada and the United States.”

One of the major reasons for the dramatically diminishing numbers of monarch butterflies is that so many of the milkweed plants typically present in fields have been eliminated as farmers have switched over to planting genetically engineered corn and soy. (Land areas used to grow corn in the US have expanded by about 25 percent since 2007.) The proposal calls for planting milkweed all along the migratory path through the US; between fields, in ditches, along roadsides, and in public areas, to ensure sufficient food for the monarchs, and a place to lay their eggs. The group also recommends subsidizing farmers who do not use herbicides on their land. The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) is also petitioning the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to implement tougher rules for the weed killer glyphosate, and to do so sooner rather than later. The agency is scheduled to complete a review of glyphosate rules next year, but the NRDC is asking the EPA to take immediate action, given the rapid decline of the monarchs. As reported by the Los Angeles Times:2 “The petition asks the EPA to consider preventing the use of glyphosate and other weed killers along highways and utility rights of way where milkweed could grow freely without interfering with maintenance or emergency crews. It also asks that farmers be required to establish herbicide-free safety zones in or around their fields, and urges the EPA to ensure that any new safeguards on glyphosate don’t lead simply to more use of other weed killers that would be equally

bad for monarchs and may pose health risks.”

The Plight of the Monarchs

A recent article in the World Post,3 written by Mexican environmental activist Homero Aridjis, sheds further light on just how dire the situation is. Having spent every childhood winter in Contepec, Michoacan admiring the arriving flocks of monarchs, he has personally noticed the dramatic decline in the gorgeous orange and black butterflies. In 1986, Aridjis petitioned the Mexican President to protect monarch habitats, which resulted in the creation of the Monarch Butterfly Special Biosphere Reserve. In 2000, the reserve was enlarged, and additional protection was added for other butterfly colonies as well. Mexico has also set limitations on logging in and around the butterfly reserve, to help preserve the butterfly population. Alas, such measures are not enough. As Aridjis notes, excessive use of toxic agricultural chemicals across America’s Corn Belt plays an absolutely critical role in the declining numbers of these beautiful creatures, as each year the butterflies migrate through this area of the US.

Milkweed,4 a perennial plant that used to be common across American prairies, is the only plant on which the adult monarch will lay its eggs. Once the larvae hatches, the caterpillar will eat the plant. Without milkweed along its migratory path, the monarch cannot reproduce. Aridjis writes:5 “I was born in 1940 and grew up with (and wrote about) the monarchs, but it was only in 1975 that their overwintering forests in central Mexico’s Transvolcanic Belt were ‘discovered’ by Canadian scientists. On Jan. 29, news was released of a dramatic plunge in the monarch butterfly population that overwinters in Mexico after flying thousands of miles south from the northern and eastern United States and southern Canada. This season’s population, calculated by measuring the area of occupied trees, covers a tiny 0.67 hectares -- the smallest ever since these measurements began 20 years ago -and a huge drop from the 1996 high of 21 hectares. The population has plummeted from an estimated 1 billion in 1996 to 33 million this year, scattered

over seven sites. There have been no monarchs in Contepec for years.”

Glyphosate Destroys More Than Just Monarch Breeding Grounds

The environmental destruction caused by glyphosate certainly does not end with the eradication of milkweed, which are critical for monarch breeding and feeding. This chemical, the toxicity of which has been vastly underestimated since its introduction into agriculture, absolutely devastates the soil microbiome. Killing microorganisms is in fact one of glyphosate’s primary mechanisms of action, as it is patented as an antibiotic. Glyphosate is also a potent chelator that sequesters valuable minerals, rendering them inaccessible and unusable for the plant. It ties up minerals like manganese, zinc, and iron, which are essential for the plant’s immune system and growth. These minerals are also important for human health. Another problem, which applies to both genetically engineered (GE) and conventional hybridized plants, is that when a plant is altered it may lose its ability to emit the correct signals to warn its neighbors about impending attacks. Hence, they become more vulnerable to infestations. Then there’s the issue of rapid resistance developing among weeds... In some areas, highly invasive and crop-destroying superweeds are taking over valuable farm land. This was yet another possibility that was initially pooh-pooh’d by Monsanto. Industry assurances aside, glyphosate resistance has now become an undisputable fact. But rather than acknowledging its role in creating the problem, Monsanto and other chemical producers have simply started working on herbicide formulations that are even MORE toxic, and developing new crops that are resistant to a different set of chemicals, including 2,4-Dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D), which is one of the primary ingredients in Agent Orange!

How Glyphosate Affects Your Health

Just as glyphosate decimates soil bacteria that are critical for plant health and nutrient uptake, the chemical also destroys the microbiome found in the gut of animals and humans. This effect appears to be the missing link that explains the detrimental health effects associated with genetically engineered foods. Recent research even suggests that glyphosate may be the most important factor in the development of multiple chronic diseases and conditions that have become prevalent in Westernized societies.

CHIROPRACTIC CORNER:

SUGAR SUCKS

S

by Sylvia Skefich, D.C. ugar has negative effects on the body that are almost too numerous to mention. One effect that you may not be aware of is how sugar consumption will affect our hormones. It’s true that many women realize the one-to-one correlation that sugar consumption has on their menstrual cramps, and other premenstrual symptoms, like mood. And men may or may not realize that excess sugar consumption (and the “insulin resistance” that ensues) affects their hormones, moods, and energy levels too. How is that? Well, a simple analogy is the hanging mobile (you know, the kind that may hang in a child’s room to gaze at). Each piece of the mobile is independent and moves about freely, But, is each piece really independent when if you move the position of one piece, all pieces will move to recalibrate to that one change? Hormones work like that too. Hormones (including insulin, the sugar-shuttling hormone) exist as a family. Each individual hormone has its function, and yet if one hormone is changed, then all the others will eventually recalibrate to adapt to the changes. Hormones include the sex hormones (male and female), stress hormones (from the adrenals glands), brain hormones (including pituitary), thyroid hormone, and the pancreatic hormones (insulin and glucagon), and liver hormones. These hormones interact with one another via a complex system of feedback loops which the nervous system interplays with too. When a hormone is too high or too low, the body will react in a way to try to correct that imbalance. At first the reaction can be pretty direct (i.e. the feedback system says “turn that hormone down,” or “turn that hormone up”). But if the direct method does not work—and

it won’t if the imbalance is caused from an outside influence like ongoing high sugar intake—then the other hormones get affected in the attempt to achieve an overall balance. You can remember what insulin does by using a memory technique: Insulin shuttles blood sugar IN to the cells for energy, therefore, “insulIN”—to the cells. “Insulin resistance” is the name for when the cells throughout the body have become overburdened by too much sugar (and too much insulin to shuttle it), and the cells have “just said ‘no’!” to that shuttlebus. The blood is left with a bunch of sugar, bound by insulin, and with nowhere to go. The result is a feeling of fatigue after one eats. The blood is thickened with inflammatory agents. Both sugar and insulin are inflammatory, and can lead to high homocystein levels in the blood, a known marker for heart disease. The presence of too much insulin also affects a gene that binds sex hormones and results in too high estrogen and testosterone levels. These conditions are associated with more conditions than I can mention here, for both men and women, affecting every organ in the body from brain, to thyroid, to sex organs, heart and gut. The person with insulin resistance may often skip meals, and then be driven to have a sugar heavy snack or drink in the afternoon. There are various ways to assess the condition with blood tests: Mark Hyman, MD has the most accurate advisement on tests on his website. You don’t want a poor test to give you a false negative. There are diets specific to resetting the metabolism of the cells. But it all comes down to minimizing sugars and carbs in the diet, and eating more regular meals that are protein rich. Intravenous and Intramuscular Vitamin and Mineral Therapy by Dr. Tonya Fleck-D’Andrea, Naturopathic Doctor hy would anyone consider using Intravenous (IV) or Intramuscular (IM) therapies? Aren’t IVs for really sick people? The answer is yes and no. Yes, IVs are very helpful during cases of extreme illness, but you can actually use IV and IM therapies to avoid getting ill, to stimulate your immune system, to support detoxification and to optimize health. By the time symptoms of illness start to appear, oral supplementation of vitamins and minerals may not be enough to restore the body to balance. Why is this? When we take a substance into our body orally, the substance is still considered ‘outside’ the body until we pass it through our stomach and absorb it into our bloodstream through our gastrointestinal (GI) tract. If we have any disruption in the health of the lining of our GI tract, we probably aren’t absorbing most of the nutrients we’re taking in, either through our food or supplements. In addition, the cells of the stomach and GI tract can only absorb so much at one time. Most vitamins, aside from Vitamins A, D, E and K, are water soluble. What this means is that the body cannot store these nutrients. It absorbs what it can and urinates out the rest. When we inject nutrients directly into the muscle or the vein, we bypass the stomach and the GI tract, thereby maximizing nutrient absorption. Large doses of nutrients taken orally can also irritate the GI lining, limiting oral dosages. For example, most people experience loose stool if they take up to 10,000mg of Vit C in one day. However, for viral conditions such as Hepatitis, HPV and the common flu, Vitamin C is often given intravenously at a dosage of 50,000—100,000 mg without any negative side-effects or GI irritation. Who benefits from intramuscular or intravenous therapies? Almost everyone. First of all, you don’t have to be ‘sick’ to get an IM injection. Most of the IM injections given

Structural Integration

in my office are B vitamins, folic acid and homeopathics. Giving high dose vitamins intramuscularly is a safe, effective tool to treat fatigued adrenal glands, depression, anxiety, enhance the immune system and to treat chronic fatigue. Many people experience an immediate boost in their energy and vitality. More chronic conditions may benefit from added Intravenous therapies. It is very difficult, in any condition, for the body to heal if the cells are not getting the proper nutrients that they need. Taking nutrients orally is a waste of time and money if the nutrients aren’t actually being absorbed and transported into the cells. If nutrients do not reach the cells, the consequence is that organ, tissues and organ systems will be prevented from healing to their capacity. Conditions that benefit include acute illnesses such as the flu, or more chronic conditions such as chronic viral or bacterial infections, chronic fatigue, gastrointestinal disorders, detoxification, cancer and general immune support. Glutathione IV’s are often given to support heavy metal detoxification, chemical sensitivities, PMS and liver detoxification. Glutathione is also the body’s main antioxidant and provides anti-aging properties. It isn’t always necessary to give nutrients intramuscularly or intravenously. Many imbalances and deficiencies can be resolved using high quality oral supplementation. However, when this is not effective, IM and IV treatments provide great benefits. For drinking and bathing water to be healthful, it needs to: • be free from contaminants and pollutants (including chlorine) • be alkaline (above pH 7.0 and below pH 9.0 for most individuals) • have the right combination of minerals (calcium, magnesium, phosphorous, etc.) • contain minerals that are easily recognized and utilized by the cells of humans and animals (i.e., be bioavailable). • have the chains of water molecules broken up for easy absorption and hydration. (The molecular clusters of water carry more oxygen when they are hexagonal in shape. This is achieved through proper magnetization.) • to be oxygenated. by Sherry Doctor Felten n a world where we can get all kinds of information instantaneously, it is often confusing and overwhelming to discern the truth about what really matters. This is no less true regarding what makes for truly healthful, safe drinking and bathing water. Pollution is everywhere in our environment. SMOG, chemical runoff, outdoor allergens, and more threaten your and your family’s health. When it comes to toxic contaminants, the water you are drinking may be the worst offender of all. First of all, we may not be drinking enough water daily. Chronic dehydration is linked to many diseases, including Alzheimer’s dementia. The human body is 70 to 90 percent water depending upon the organ. It is recommended that each person drink daily at least one-half of their body weight (in pounds) as the number of ounces of water. For example, a person who weighs 208 pounds should drink at least 104 ounces, which equals 13 (8 oz.) cups or 6 ½ pints per day.

The Internal Cleanse Specific to Males — Females

W

oman and Men require different elements to rid bodies of harmful toxins. The human body is perfectly capable of cleaning and filtering out impurities, but due to the overwhelming amount of toxins that we are exposed to today, many in the medical community agree that an internal cleanse is now essential for optimum health. “It is very necessary because our world is so toxic. We are ingesting, breathing, and coming into contact externally with toxins all day long and there are more environmental toxins then there has ever been and it’s growing,” says Dr. Tom Ziegler, a pharmacist at the Medicap Pharmacy in Ashburn, VA. “We need to do a cleanse to rid the body of those toxins.” Because men and women have different physiological and nutritional needs, when it comes to internal cleanses, there are different requirements for men and women. For instance, companies like Yerba Prima are including Chaste-tree berry extract, the fruit of a small tree native to Central Asia which has been used for thousands of years to ease menstrual-related issues in women. “Many women feel at the mercy of unpleasant changes in their monthly cycles,” says Peter Finkle, Director of Quality Control at Yerba Prima, an Ashland, Oregon-based company credited with developing the first internal cleanse. “Chaste-tree berry supports the cleansing process by balancing female hormones and supporting positive female energy. The combination of cleansing and balance helps women feel healthier and more energetic all through the month.” To promote and balance male energy during the cleansing process without the ups and downs of stimulants like caffeine, many companies are now including Asian ginseng, the root of ginseng plant, which has been used for over two thousand years to improve stamina and endurance. While an internal cleanse can remove many unwanted wastes and toxins from the body, and is popular after holiday overindulging, the cleansing process itself can put demands on the body. While the dietary fiber supplement psyllium has long been used as the primary ingredient of many laxative and colon cleanse products, it does not do a complete job of internal cleansing by itself. In the fight to protect your body against environmental toxins, using psyllium with bentonite provides a more complete internal cleansing. Together, psyllium and bentonite, a natural volcanic clay that attracts toxins through adsorption and is taken in a solution or capsule form, can deliver a one-two punch to waste and toxins accumulated along the digestive tract and colon. “A lot of people suffer from leaky gut syndrome where toxins are absorbed from the gut back into the blood stream and it becomes a vicious cycle,” says

Dr. Ziegler. “People really need at least one or two bowel movements everyday.” On contact with water, psyllium seed husk thickens into a gel-like’ substance. This acts like a broom to sweep waste from the colon, so it does not get re-absorbed through the colon wall back into the bloodstream to recirculate in the body. Psyllium also keeps the lining of the colon cleaner, since it cleans out pockets in the colon that may accumulate toxic waste material. Working synergistically with psyllium, bentonite attracts toxins like a magnet through a chemical adsorption process, in which the surfaces of toxins and bentonite bind together when they touch along the body’s digestive tract. Through adsorption, toxins adhere to bentonite’s large, porous, ion-charged surface to draw environmental pollutants out of the body when it passes from the colon. In numerous studies, bentonite has demonstrated it can bind with and remove pesticides, herbicides, pathogenic viruses, heavy metals, and other toxins from the body. “Because psyllium and bentonite work by different means, when used together they provide a more thorough internal cleanse than using either alone,” says Finkle. Some health supplement companies such as Yerba Prima are going beyond offering the internal cleanse combination of psyllium and bentonite to include supplements that not only support the body during cleansing but also help to renew it afterwards. To build on the cleansing activity of psyllium and bentonite in its internal cleanse system, for instance, the company adds Triphala extract, which combines three potent herbal superfruits and has been used in Indian Ayurvedic medicine for several thousand years. In addition to reducing gas and abdominal discomfort, Triphala improves the digestion and absorption of nutrients. As bentonite and psyllium cleanse the colon, Triphala rebuilds colon health to improve system function by the end of the cleansing process. “Combining psyllium and bentonite with energizing and balancing herbs can help women and men have a better, more effective internal cleansing experience,” concludes Finkle. 10 QUESTIONS VETERINARIANS REALLY WISH PET OWNERS WOULD ASK

by Dr. Patty Khuly f owners only knew to ask the right questions, my patients would have it so much easier. My life would be easier, too! Here are 10 perfect examples: 1. What kind of pet do you recommend for my family? When I think of how many problems I could head off by having this conversation before the new pet happens, I wonder why we don’t recommend that more clients come in for pre-pet consultations. 2. Should I sign up for pet insurance? I’d much rather have this discussion before the injury or illness happens than once it’s way too late.

4. Is she too old to learn? I love this question because it’s undoubtedly true that you can teach an old dog new tricks. When pet owners mistakenly assume otherwise, they endorse the notion that to live uneasily with behavioral problems is preferable to taking positive steps to improve their pets’ lives through training. 5. She’s fat, right? If my clients were willing to fess up to the obvious—and ask for help when it comes to overweight pets— I’m sure that I’d have a healthier pool of pets in my practice. 6. How often should I brush my pet’s teeth? I love this question because it implies that the owner already knows that teeth need to be brushed. If only I could find someone who’d ask, “Is once a day enough?” 7. How much exercise is too much? It’s a great question because, if you have to ask, it probably means that your pet is getting lots of exercise. By the way, the rule of thumb is that it’s never enough—unless you’re courting heatstroke or your pet has a disease that specifically precludes exercise. SEE ALSO: 5 Things That Makes

Food… a weapon Battle for Humanity Nearly Lost: Global Food Supply Deliberately Engineered To End Life — Not Nourish It by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, Editor of NaturalNews.com After having now analyzed over 1,000 foods, superfoods, vitamins, junk foods and popular beverages for heavy metals and other substances at the Natural News Forensic Food Labs, I have arrived at a conclusion so alarming and urgent that it can only be stated bluntly. Based on what I am seeing via atomic spectroscopy analysis of all the dietary substances people are consuming on a daily basis, I must now announce that the battle for humanity is nearly lost. The food supply appears to be intentionally designed to end human life rather than nourish it.

Life-destroying toxins intentionally engineered into the food supply

My lab has uncovered scientific proof that substances are intentionally formulated into dietary products to drive consumers mentally insane while causing widespread infertility, organ damage and a loss of any ability to engage in rational, conscious thinking. These toxic substances are being found across the entire food supply including in conventional foods, organic foods, “natural” products and dietary supplements. This goes far beyond the mere contamination of foods with heavy metals -- a subject

which is grave all by itself. Rather, this is about the intentional formulation of toxic substances into products consumed by the masses on a regular basis. The result is what you see unfolding around you right now: mass insanity, incredible escalations of criminality among political operatives, clinical insanity among an increasing number of mainstream media writers and reporters, widespread infertility in young couples, skyrocketing rates of kidney failure and dialysis patients, plus a near total loss of rational thinking among the voting masses. The effects of this are devastating to human civilization: the collapse of a capable workforce, the rise of the masses dependent on government for survival, the collapse of free democracies due to the cognitive retardation of the voting masses, an exploding prison population and the rise of for-profit corporate prison systems, and even the near complete collapse of any ability of the news-consuming public to parse and comprehend even the most basic information such as national debt figures. The long-term effects of this widespread food poisoning phenomenon will be the utter downfall of modern human civilization for numerous reasons ranging from economic nonsustainability to environmental destruction and the global rise of political violence as we are seeing right now in Kiev.

Truly Dear Readers, We thank you always for your commitment to Lifelong Learning. Most people are understanding that things are intensifying in a number of ways now on our beauty-full Gaia. There are many aspects to this. What we know now and are learning even more and more is that a lot of questionable things are happening (and thoroughly planned, etc., etc.) We, personally, think that we must educate ourselves, our friends and families—get over the supposed two party ‘dems’ & ‘pubs’ thing, the illusions, the unbelievable and instead tune in to the ‘we-the-people ‘thing’— the authentic, loving, giving, caring ‘things’ that Lifelong Learners, beings of ‘intelligence and heart’ of which we are an integral part. March is ‘Women’s Nat’l & Int’l Herstory Month’ and to honor all women and especially our mom’s who do not or would not want us; our world to be poisoned, damaged, etc., therefore, we are telling the truth about one of the life/blood lines of each of our lives and those of our families, which is our food. Read on, then get attuned to the other sides where the ‘light’ prevails. A number of people within this magazine can assist you or each and all of us to do; in our journeys. As more and more lab results have been documented here at the Natural News Forensic Food Lab, it has become increasingly apparent to me that humanity cannot survive the mass engineered poisoning of the food supply. You are, of course, being expertly distracted from all this with Powerball jackpots, tabloid celebrity news, staged political drama and of course the all-time favorite distraction of every crumbling empire: violent sports.

What we’re finding in foods, vitamins & supplements

What I’ve published so far just barely scratches the surface of what we are finding. Here’s an overview of some of the incredibly shocking findings we have now documented: • The now-infamous “yoga mat chemical” used by Subway in their breads is also widely used across the fast-food industry. McDonald’s, Chik-Fil-A, Wendy’s, Arby’s and many other restaurants also use the chemical azodicarbonamide which is linked to cancer. Importantly, this is not a contaminant. This is an ingredient which is intentionally added to the recipes in order for the chemical to be consumed by the masses. • There is no logical reason why chemicals like azodicarbonamide need to be added to recipes of fast food breads and buns. The chemical serves no necessary functional or nutritive purpose. It seems to exists solely for the purpose of delivering the chemical to hundreds of millions of consumers by blending it into popular fast foods. The sandwiches in which this chemical is found are merely delivery mechanisms for toxic substances that harm human biology. • Many mainstream, popular vitamin brands are intentionally spiked with such high levels of copper that if taken on a daily basis, they will cause mental insanity and psychosis. Some of these vitamin brands are routinely advertised on television to the mainstream masses, encouraging them to consume the vitamins, many of which are manufactured by companies owned in full or part by pharmaceutical interests. • A popular dietary herb designed to improve brain performance actually contains very high levels of lead in most products we tested

(which were sourced from China). Lead is a toxic heavy metal that damages brain function. In this way, people who are suffering from early dementia or Alzheimer’s are actually accelerated toward brain destruction via certain herbal supplements which appear designed to deliver toxic heavy metals to the brain. It was truly shocking to me to discover that “brain herbs” contain so much lead that they contribute to brain damage. • At the same time, we found that the very same “brain herb,” when grown in the USA, contains virtually no heavy metals. This is proof that the herb does not “naturally” absorb heavy metals as if by magic. Interestingly, the highest levels of brain-damaging metals are consistently found in herbs imported from China. I’m openly asking this question: Is there a covert heavy metals war being waged against America by China? After all, poisoning the population with heavy metals is a very effective way to collapse a nation by destroying the sanity and health of its people. (More on this topic later...) • Popular children’s vitamins sold in nearly every grocery store and pharmacy across America are especially formulated to be incredibly toxic to developing neurology. The number of synthetic, toxic chemicals added to nearly every popular brand of children’s vitamins is truly staggering, and many of them seem to be selected for their ability to target and disrupt neurological function. From a purely scientific point of view, these “vitamins” would honestly have to be called “poison pills,” yet parents are encouraged to feed them to their children every single day as part of a modern-day health ritual that actually causes long-term harm. • At our atomic spectroscopy lab, we have confirmed trace levels of aluminum in regular atmospheric air, confirming the fact that all agricultural soils are being inundated with aluminum which is literally falling out of the sky. This is not merely aluminum in our laboratory air, as many labs contain aluminum floors or furniture, causing an unusually high aluminum concentration in laboratory air. Rather, parts per billion concentrations of aluminum have been measured in regular atmospheric air sampled

Page 16 ▲ The Connection Magazine ▲ www.ConnectionMagazineOnline.com ▲ Facebook/ConnectionOnline ▲ March – April 3, 2014

against humanity? far from any building or laboratory. The result of this phenomenon is that aluminum levels are rising in nearly all soil-grown crops from which everyday food is derived. While aluminum is far less harmful than lead, cadmium or mercury, the repeated accumulation of aluminum is believed to be tied to degenerative brain disorders across the population. • As Natural News readers already know, GM corn is engineered to grow a deadly toxin inside each and every grain of corn. This deadly toxin is then consumed by all the people who unknowingly eat genetically engineered crops via breakfast cereals, corn tortillas, corn snack chips, etc. This mass poisoning of the population is clearly intentional, as it is deliberately engineered into the crops which are grown for the sole purpose of human and animal consumption. This mass poisoning is not accidental, in other words, and in fact the technology is promoted under the justification that it will “feed the world.” Indeed it will feed the world... poison.

Food has become a weapon against humanity

As you can see from these examples, food has become a weapon against humanity. It is the new vector for a stealth world war against humankind -- a war which is being quietly waged right this very moment with weapons you would probably find in your own pantry. World War I was fought primarily in the trenches, with soldiers slinging chunks of lead at each other and using crude chemical weapons like mustard gas. World War II was fought with a genocidal intention, using more advanced kinetic weapons and chemical weapons engineered by pharmaceutical companies. Our of World War II and the Nazi era came IG Farben, the chemical-pharma conglomerate which was later split into three companies, one of which is now known as Bayer, the same company that makes children’s aspirin and various chemicals used throughout the food supply. (Check your history. This is factual and true.) World War III appears to already be underway, and it is being waged as a stealth war via the food supply. The chemicals are very similar to those used in World War I and World War II except that instead of being deployed on the battle field, today’s chemical weapons are deployed via the food supply and often even listen right on ingredients labels. Toxic ingredients like sodium nitrite and aspartame are formulated to work at sub-acute levels so they don’t cause people to drop dead right away. Instead, they cause the chronic, longterm degenerative collapse of body and mind, leaving behind a wake of global cancer, kidney failure and extreme mental disorders including psychosis. This damage to body and mind, in turn, destroys economies, education systems, scientific advancement, free democracies and even cultural integrity.

The silent food bombing of humanity

What the United States Air Force did to Dresden in World War II via high-elevation bombing runs, the global chemical and food conglomerates are now doing to the world populations via the drive-thru window. But there are no bombs dropping out of the sky and there are

no firestorms lighting up the cityscape at night. Instead, the silent, ignorant masses are simply marched to their deaths, one meal at a time, almost like a cargo train full of “useless eaters” clicking and clacking its way to Auschwitz. On the way to their own deaths, of course, they pay the mandatory tolls to the pharmaceutical giants, hospitals, cancer clinics, doctors and health insurance mandates. Much like victims of Nazi genocide had their gold fillings pulled out of their mouths before they were gassed to death, today’s mainstream consumers are emptied of their bank accounts, assets and insurance policies before finally being discarded by the system. There are tremendous profits to be made, you see, from first poisoning the masses and then “treating” them for the side effects of that poisoning. This racket is so massive and so deeply embedded into our greed-driven culture that very few people even recognize it’s happening to them. But make no mistake: You are not valued by the system for your humanity, your spirit, your innovation or your imagination. You are only valued for your tax base at first, and then ultimately your “disease management profits” which enrich global corporations while you are poked, prodded, dosed, irradiated and drugged to death while the hospital racks up page after page of medical procedure billings codes which will be covered by Medicare... or Obamacare.

Here’s the way out: grow your own food

Look around you at the evidence right in front of your eyes

Or, maybe you think I’m the crazy one in mentioning any of this. If that’s the case, I encourage you to look around you and see the results of what happens to people when they eat yoga mat chemicals, aspartame-laced diet sodas, synthetic food preservatives and cheap vitamins contaminated with heavy metals. Unless you are living in a complete state of denial, you can’t help but notice that humanity has become a race of near-mutants who barely have a shred of health and sanity remaining. A modern young man growing up today in America and living on processed foods is little more than a shadow of the strong, vibrant young men who worked the farms just three generations ago. Today’s generation of youth is pathetic, weak, academically inept and heavily pampered with their video game consoles, Ritalin drugs and air-conditioned schools with a watered-down curriculum. They’ve been dumbed down, stripped of nutrients and medicated to the point where literal zombies now walk among us. In fact, the people all around you are over-medicated, over-fed and at the same time wildly malnourished. Their brains and bodies are heavily contaminated with destructive chemicals, heavy metals and synthetic materials. They have lost nearly all high cognitive functions and now survive on lower brain stem function which ex-

plains the radical rise in sex crimes, behavioral addictions, substance abuse and violent crime across society today. In a very real sense, the daily consumption of processed food has become a ritual of slow suicide mindlessly repeated everywhere that factory foods have invaded once-sane societies. While Republicans blame Democrats, and Democrats blame Republicans, the truth is that they are all being systematically poisoned and thereby driven to precisely the kind of insanity we see played out across newspaper headlines and news broadcasts. We are far past the age of reason in the modern western world, and we will not survive this stealth war that releases weapons of dietary mass destruction with each tempting bite of seductive food that’s engineered for death instead of life. This is far beyond any single issue of labeling GMOs, or buying organic or testing foods for heavy metals. This is about how human civilization is being brought to its knees by the most insidious stealth weapon ever experienced in our collective history: PROCESSED FOOD laced with toxic substances. Heed these words or you too shall die a victim of this insidious, deliberate war against life, health and sanity. http://tinyurl.com/lydlvrq Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, Editor of NaturalNews.com Printed with permission.

Sound too grim to be true? Let’s look at some solutions on the positive side. The way out of all this is to grow your own food or at least buy as much as you can from local farmers and CSAs. Any food acquired through mainstream corporate sources is likely to be intentionally engineered, laced and packaged with incredibly toxic poisons ranging from heavy metals to hormone disrupting packaging containers. But food grown by honest farmers provides genuine nourishment, not death. In fact, the future of human civilization almost certainly belongs exclusively to those who either grow their own food or make arrangements for others to grow it for them. The factory-made food consumed by the masses is quite truly a poison delivery system that has no purpose other than mass disease, death and profit. If you wish to avoid being a victim of this system, you must avoid its products. Stop buying packaged processed foods. Utterly avoid all processed meats containing sodium nitrite, including bacon, hot dogs, sausage, ham, deli meats, pepperoni pizza and even beef jerky. Stop drinking all diet soda, obviously. Aspartame is toxic to biology. All artificial sweeteners have harmful side effects if consumed in sufficient quantity. Be skeptical of “natural” products which are heavily processed and refined in some way. Ask about countries of origin. Check heavy metals lab results to stay informed. Except for rare exceptions, stop buying superfoods and supplements made in China, the world’s most polluted food producer. The U.S. natural products industry has practically been taken over by China over the last decade, and much of what you think is safe and organic is actually heavily polluted, either accidentally or deliberately, in mainland China.

by Ronald Urbina hat is it with these high heels? Westerners used to complain about the Chinese making women wear little, tiny shoes (or did they even break their feet?) and about certain cultures in S.E. Asia where women are forced to wear multiple brass rings around their necks. And, of course, there are certain strict cultures where women must wear head coverings when entering “places of God.” And there are burqas of course. In the big picture, how is the compulsion to wear high heels any different? Worldwide, most of the above named garments are either to make the women “more attractive” or in some, to keep them from being “too attractive”, or from running away. Attractive to whom, is the question? Many American women in interviews on TV talk shows at least, say they don’t dress for men, they dress for women, or the approval of women. Some women say they dress for themselves; but who really, can dress for themselves? If we did, actually, most of us would go around in our sweats or pjs. But, no, we must have some level of decorum, or creativity or whatever, just to keep it interesting. High heels though, they drive me crazy (in a bad way). Probably heels make the leg more “attractive” in most scientific analysis, but, it seems to me, the last thing in

the world we need is for women to be more attractive — as it is, and has been for centuries, women are mostly revered and exalted in art, with nary a high heal in sight. Whilst at the same time being put down and even demonized in many male ruled religions. Go figure. Lately, however, high heels seem to appear frequently in ads and movies in conjunction with “bondage” themes, women wearing nothing, or almost nothing, but, high heels. Seemingly almost taunting us, that, yes, indeed, these heels are made to keep you in your place, and your place is on display and immobile. I have, of course, being 64 if I’m a day, learned that art is in the eye of the beholder; different strokes for different folks; and even that some folks receive pleasure through pain. But, even this reminds me of the old joke: What did the ultimate sadist say to the ultimate masochist when the masochist begged “Beat me:” Sadist, of course, said “No! No! A thousand times No!” Again, another story. But, all painful humor aside, could this be some kind of self punishment that women inflict upon themselves, or feel that they have to inflict upon themselves in order to partake or advance in the corporate world? Are heels just another glass ceiling (in glorious colors) that needs to be smashed to achieve fairness, justice,

and above all, comfort at the workplace and in life? I hope so. H a p p i l y, high heels are fairly rare in this locale we call our region, and I am reminded of Cybill Shepherd (call me) during her Moonlighting TV show in the ‘80s who wore fancy tennis shoes even while filming (for comfort, and because she could, as she was the boss). And let us not forget the words of Nancy Sinatra which still echo around us today, “These boots are made for walkin, and that’s just what they’ll do. One of these days these boots are gonna walk all over you.” (Soft boots, furry, with tassels and pink bunnies) Editor’s Note: Mr. Urbina spoke with me about the ideas in this article. And, we are publishing it to honor women and the fact that they/we should only wear what we want to; and, to not cater to others, men or any corporate concept of who we are or should be. I agree. And, I want to add that though I have worn ‘high heels’ and enjoyed them, I am ‘old school’ enough that I would also say that their heels ‘were in reason’ (whatever that means). Actually, I think it means not these Very TALL stilettos which are actually very unhealthy for a person’s foot in a number of ways and also very dangerous. Personal Mastery Coaching for Success

How

W

to

Really CHange—PaRt one

by Karin Leonard hat does it take to truly transform? Whether it is breaking outdated habits, balancing business and personal life, or achieving important goals, like so many people, you may feel frustrated with making change work. This article series explores essential ingredients for enduring triumph. Make it Sustainable When moving in a new direction or attempting to alter behavior, do you get impatient with yourself? Do you take on a whole new plan, go full force, and then sooner or later, let go of the whole thing? In these “fast food” times of instant gratification and dizzying speed of life, is it no wonder that we expect ourselves to transform just as quickly? All you have to do is turn on the TV or surf the internet, and you are bombarded with promises of immediate and miraculous results, be it changing your body, getting rich or finding fulfillment. However, the charm of quick fix schemes wears off quickly. Letting go of the illusion of instantaneous change is a significant step in the quest for real results. What does work is the gentle approach: become supportive of yourself, and make a sustainable plan for success. Take into account the complexity of your life, the different roles you play, and what you can realistically commit to. Critic into Champion When you embark on the road to change, inner conflicts often surface. Various aspects of you may want differing things. If internal disagreement goes unchecked, it can waste a lot of energy, and leave you feeling drained. You are probably familiar with the voice of the inner critic, for example, constantly nagging you about what you did or did not do. Reminding

you of how you “should have …” or “could have”. Transforming that voice into an ally can bring tremendous vitality, alignment and inner peace. Becoming your own best friend, and shifting self-talk to encouragement, rather than putdowns, makes lasting results possible. Just like the gardener steadily nurtures the seedlings and pulls the weeds, voices of victory create a climate of possibility and excitement, rather than anxiety and despair. Changing mental habits is no different from any other learning, and according to Neuroscience, thought has the power to transform the brain, as well as the mind. Next time you notice negative self-talk, experiment with replacing the onslaught with encouraging words. Turn down the internal volume on the nagger, and blast the champion voice. You may even want to count how often you successfully make that switch during the day. Don’t worry if you come up with a high number—that just means you are becoming more aware of what goes through your mind! That awareness is crucial for shifting towards a supportive mindset, and makes it possible to turn the inner critic into a champion of your success and happiness. …to be continued Karin H. We are offered passports to come and go from America as we choose and no one makes us work everyday, other than our own need to pay bills, afford luxuries or save for future dreams. On the surface, we have a relative amount of freedom in the environment around us. What if we turn our attention toward our inner landscape? In the presence of someone drawing, you may have thoughts of self-loathing, feelings of jealousy or anger arise. Then again, you may act out these feelings without being in conscious control of what you are doing. Many things happen to us, especially in childhood, that we are not equipped to handle, mentally or emotionally, and when this occurs, the tendency is to make something up about ourselves and/or the world that helps us make sense of what happened, even if what we concluded was completely incorrect, or in the long term does not serve us. These beliefs become conditionings that tell us how to think, feel and react to the circumstances of our lives. We are often unaware that this is even happening. When I asked you if you are free, did you take into consideration that you may not be free from the conditions of your own mind and that the actions you choose may not be choices at all, rather reactions from past conditioning?

HOw Free Are we?

There is no freedom in reacting to the stimuli and circumstances of life; unconscious of this, we are no different than a lab rat trained to follow a certain path by experiencing electric shocks or being rewarded with food. So what do we want? To be free of course, free to choose our responses and not be in reaction to what life presents us at any given moment. How we do this is to become the observers of our daily life. I suggest looking back on your day before bedtime and taking note of all your choices and actions. Take a good look to see which ones happened automatically without your taking the time to choose them.

Don’t forget to look at thoughts you may have had about yourself, others and the world as you moved through your day. Judgments, reactions and some feelings and thoughts are the doorways to your unconscious conditioning; the programs that automatically run your life. If you have not already done so, I support you to begin this practice of checking up on how free you really are. Being in the know is the first step to freedom and it is only you who can set yourself free! Send comments or questions to: ChristopherLove@Empowerment.Net.

FOR

ACKNOWLEDGMENT

by Joyce and Barry Vissell here is a great need in every human being to be acknowledged and blessed by another person, especially their parent. People often strive to receive acknowledgment of who they are. When they do not receive acknowledgment or blessing, they can feel hopeless or unworthy. In the children’s movie, “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs,â€? the boy, knowing that his town was in desperate need of food, creates a way for food to come from the sky. Everyone is grateful to him including the mayor of the city. However, the one person that he really wants to acknowledge him is his father. His father has never been able to communicate his love and acceptance to his son, so even in the face of the boy saving the city, he still complains that the food is too big or is falling down too heavy. In the movie, you can see the boy shrivel up when his father cannot even acknowledge him for such a great thing. Few people receive the full measure of acknowledgment and blessings from their parents. They may receive money, praise for good academic achievement, or athletic ability, but not for the qualities of their soul, such as gentleness, VHQVLWLYLW\ SHDFH NLQGQHVV DQG LQQHU UHĂ HFWLRQ Everyone yearns to be really seen for who they are. People felt that we loved each other too much and were too affectionate. These critical people of varying ages felt that we should spend more time apart focusing on our own careers and growth. The usual comment was, “Your love for each other is standing in the way of your making anything of your lives.â€? We began to hide our closeness from others. When we arrived at the camp, there were young people there from all over Europe and the USA. Once again the negative comments started with one man telling us that he didn’t even like to look at us because our closeness made him feel so uncomfortable. We thought that perhaps this was the wrong place for us and were seriously thinking of leaving. feeling slightly uncomfortable at the possibility of yet another criticism of our closeness — this time from an important teacher. When Pir Vilayat came to where we were standing off to the side, he looked at us for a minute. Then, to our surprise, he walked swiftly over to us, threw his arms around us, and starting saying the Arabic words, “Ishq Allah Mabud Li’Allahâ€? (meaning “God is love and God is the belovedâ€?) Then he enthusiastically said, “You two are one! You should always be together! Never hide your closeness!â€? The whole encounter lasted perhaps only two minutes, but it changed our lives. He had given us the acknowledgment and blessing we desperately needed. From that point on, we never again hid how close we were and how much we loved each other. Yes, most of us do not have the stature that 3LU 9LOD\DW KDG DV WKH KHDG RI WKH 6XĂ€ RUGHU %XW we have our hearts and our love. And our acknowledgement of others can have a similar positive effect on another person’s life. We can reach out to our partners, children, friends, parents and strangers and acknowledge them. We have no idea how far that acknowledgement will go and that it even has the potential to change a person’s life. Two days ago, I went to our local farmer’s market. I saw a farmer carefully placing his vegetables with great love on the table. He was not throwing them on the table as others do. He was placing them carefully as if each piece of broccoli and bunch of carrots were precious in his eyes. I walked over to him and appreciated how carefully he was working. I told him how grateful I was that he took so much pride in the food he had grown and how healthy it looked. I bought a few things and then went on my way. A few minutes later I felt a tap on my shoulder. I turned around and saw it was the farmer. He smiled and said, “Thank you for your kind words. I am having a very hard time today as my son who lives far away is very sick and is in the hospital. I want my food to bless others and help to keep them healthy. You are the only one who noticed how deeply I care about what I grow.â€? I could see from the tears in his eyes that my tiny bit of extra time and acknowledgement had blessed him. Such a simple thing, yet it can be so powerful for another. When I was in graduate school, my main professor was Leo Buscaglia. When he had to give us a test, he would always put stars and hearts after the answers we got right. Sometimes he got little gold stars and would decorate our test papers with them. The exam papers looked a little more like first grade papers, but the stars and acknowledgement made us all work that much harder. We all wanted to get the stars and appreciation. We saw a couple in counseling where the husband had done many loving things for his wife while she was away on a trip. He watched her dogs, cleaned the house for her and bought a big bunch of flowers. Rather than commenting on all of the loving things he had Page 29

AWARENESS: Relationships In The

Spectacles Of Human Design System

T

by Elena Beebe he Human Design System is a novelty. It was revealed in January 1987, and it become broadcasted and spread out rapidly, thanks to its founder Ra Uru Hu (Robert Krakover 1948-2011). Human design represents a new system of knowledge based on a synthesis between Astrology, Chakras, Qabalah and Iching. Human design offers a holistic, integral view of the anatomy of the energetic centers of our body (chakras) in one visual image. Like Astrology, human design is based on mathematical calculation. In human design system, 2 calculations are used. The calculations identify the position of the planets in the sky in relationship with 64 aspects of the I Ching, the 64 hexagrams. These 64 aspects stand for particular human archetypes, and they have a location on the centers of a human design chart. Like gates of a dam, they open the communication and exchange of information between centers, and WKH\ FUHDWH D Ă X[ RI HQHUJ\ WKDW LV PRYLQJ RQ D circuit board. 7KH HQHUJ\ FHQWHUV KDYH VSHFLĂ€F IXQFtions; they work like glands of our energetic body in a similar way the physical organs maintain life in our physical body. The two calculations used in human design distinguish our conscious and supra-conscious genetic imprint. One calculation is based on our birth date, time and location. This calculation is related to our conscious side, our soul. A second calculation uses the position of the Sun 88 degrees prior to the moment of birth. This second calculation relates to our super-conscious side, your genetic inheritance, our body. These two calculations are transposed through color in a human design chart. Together, the two calculations will highlight D XQLW\ ERG\ÂłVRXO D XQLTXH FRQĂ€JXUDWLRQ RI strengths, gifts and power as well as vulnerabili-

ties that we have been endowed with this lifetime. The first thing to notice is that we are unique and each of us is different. Despite the fact that we share the same blueprint, each of us has a different patterning. The second thing to notice is that every chart has parts that are transparent and parts that are colored in. The colored in areas stand for energy that goes out. Our colored in centers will tell us what is our personal power, what we need to bring out as self-expression and how we affect other people. The transparent areas stand for energy we take in. Our open centers will tell us where we are receptive, where we are conditioned or affected by others. In relationship, we can have now a new perspective. By comparing our individual charts, we can easily see our similarities and our differences. In a partnership, we can apply this knowledge to see what is our share and what are the new qualities we bring forth together. , ZRXOG OLNH WR XVH EULHà \ WKH H[DPSOH RI John Lennon and Paul McCartney to illustrate how human design analysis can be used in a partnership. They were both open-minded and free-spirited. John Lennon had the depth of the solutions to challenge the status quo and Paul McCartney had enthusiasm and skills to allow John’s message for a wake-up call to be expressed. Together they created the channel of talent and awakening. In their human design charts and composite, it can be clearly distinguished that their individual contribution as well as their creative potential as partners gave birth to some of the most brilliant music of this century. My personal experience is that I often did not see change and would become frustrated and depressed. Over time, I have learned that this is not the truth. I see myself as a facilitator for change. I support openness and positive outcomes. As a Therapist, I try to provide a safe and nurturing environment; and as a Clinician, I give a good assessment of the issues presented and a treatment plan for treatment. I believe in the collaborative approach to treatment and establish a working relationship with trust and compassion. Treatment may include using Communication Theory to improve communication with others, cognitive behavioral interventions, solution focus and a systems theory. by Drew Lewis Our planet, ecology, biosystems and humans in particular are facing a serious challenge that could result in the radical transformation of all economies, life forms and possibly the extinction of our species in particular. Looking at the combined effect of vaccinations, the spraying of aluminum and barium in our atmosphere through Geoengineering, War, Fluoride in our drinking water, Wireless Radiation Poisoning, GMO’s, highly processed and nutritionless junk “food”, radioactive isotopes spewing into the air and water from Fukishima, pesticides, the rapid expansion of drug use into our society pushed by the big pharmaceutical corporations to name a few, it has become quite clear to me that we are looking at a culling process of the human race going on. There seems to be a well orchestrated and coordinated plan in progress to reduce the human population. There are two aspects that all the above examples have in common. First they all make huge profits for the 1% and second they all contribute towards reducing the population. If you look up some of the things the Elite have to say about depopulation you will find some very shocking qotes like these: “A total world population of 250-300 million people, a 95% decline from present levels, would be ideal.” Ted Turner, in an interview with Audubon magazine. “Depopulation should be the highest priority of foreign policy towards the third world, because the US economy will require large and increasing amounts of minerals from abroad, especially from less developed countries”. Dr. Henry Kissinger. I have discovered that the notion of creating and implementing an intentional and systematic depopulation scheme was not a new phenomenon. The global elite have long advocated for draconian population reductions over the past several centuries. For example, Thomas Malthus argued that the population

growth, by the poor, inevitably outstrips food production and leads to a massive retaliation from Mother Nature (i.e., Malthusian Controls). His infamous “Malthusian Controls” which are taught to every first year sociology student, has become a cornerstone belief for many modern day globalists who advocate population control by any means necessary. This radical and dangerous idea promotes the unproven notion that the poor deserve to die because there are too many of them for the Earth to adequately support. Malthus believed that higher wages and welfare should be withheld from the great unwashed because he believed that these two factors would allow the poor to survive and exponentially breed, thus compounding the overpopulation problem. This seems to be playing out today with the cuts to Social Security, Medicare, Food Stamps and Unemployment Benefits. Here is a link you can look at that gives a very sober analysis of what is going on today: http://tinyurl.com/nxadlj6, I have my own concerns about overpopulation and it’s increasing destruction of our environment and ecosystems but I think that if the human species was given the best possible education and presented with the facts we would make the best informed choices that would reverse the march towards self extinction. Our only hope is to step out side of our comfort zone and look critically at what is going on around us, share out observations and investigations with our peers and make up a plan of action on how to most effectively deal with these threats to our lives and those of future generations. Our time to act is running short and we must make important choices and changes in the way we live and relate to each other and our environment or we will perish along with the rest of the present plants and animals now becoming extinct.

Standing In Hell, the Practice of Wujifa When you cease going somewhere or becoming someone, and just stand, the soul catches up to body and mind, and something inexplicable occurs. by Paddy Easton Graves fter a serious martial arts injury three years ago, I began re-exploring the Internal and Healing Martial Arts. Many years ago I trained in Shing Yi Chaun, and Bagua, but longed for the rush of the fight, which led to Kung Fu, kick boxing, Jiu Sool Do, and Jiu Jitsu. When the body’s capacity and the mind’s desire are out of align with spirit, all hell breaks loose. Be grateful. Recently, I began the practice of Wujifa, and Zhan Zhuang, which I have apply named: Standing in Hell. The first time I stood, with determined focus, I noticed very definite things beginning to occur. First came boredom that sent my mind on a pinball tour in my head, telling me what a silly, ineffective, waste of time this standing is. I kept standing, Then came the pain, which began like a light snowfall - little discomforts here and there, which I was able to escape, and greater justify my position. I kept standing. Then came the avalanche! Burning, searing pain everywhere, accompanied by nausea. I kept standing. Old emotions of fear, abandonment, loss, anger, unworthiness crept into

With Kevin Hart, Michael Ealy, Regina Hall, Joy Bryant Entertainment: 3 Message: 2.5 s long as you don’t expect anything deep, or profound, and are alright with the sexual raunchiness, then you can have some great laughs with this remake of the 1986 original. The story line of this romantic farce is bumpy and hardly believable, but entertaining characters and age-old themes of romance and cliché struggles can make for an enjoyable ride. performance as Rosenfeld’s pseudo-British partner “con artiste,” and the love story between the two is curiously spicy. Glamorous hairstyles and fashion are fun to watch, as well as the characters parading on screen. big screen (1 hr 48 min). Gravity With Sandra Bullock, George Clooney Entertainment: 4.5 Message: 4 nnovative, gorgeous and meditative, punctuated with several gripping action scenes, this visceral experience of being in outer space is a grand achievement in movie making, winning seven Oscars, including best director. Probably the closest most of us will ever get to actually exploring the endless star-filled universe, this awareness may be central to what makes this breathtaking journey so mesmerizing. Floating in space, with glorious images of the Earth as a backdrop, the players always just a razor’s edge away from annihilation, we are reminded of the preciousness of life and the tender balance of Earth’s biosphere. See it on a large screen and in 3D, if possible (1 hr 31 min).

August: Osage County

With Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Juliette Lewis, Ewan McGregor, Abigail Breslin Entertainment: 3.5 Message: 2.5 Offensive language ompletely deserving of Oscar nominations for Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts as tough-minded, foul-mouthed women of the Weston family, these incredible, hauntingly real, disturbing and powerful performances stand as dramatic achievements in their own right. The content and script of this darkly comedic drama may be hard to take, especially for folks who have endured extreme family dysfunction in their own lives. However, watching these acting giants, with such a strong supporting cast, will surely move even those who don’t care for the story. Thankfully, the family relationship dynamics are so perturbing, their behavior often so outrageous and infuriating, that the film also delivers comedic and hilarious moments, perhaps “accidentally on purpose” to lighten the load. We would have liked even more of these moments to soften the morose intensity of this pungent tale (a long 2 hrs 10 min).

C

Frozen

With Kristen Bell, Josh Gad, Idina Menzel Entertainment: 4 Message: 4.5 Two Academy Awards: Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song ased on a much-beloved story by Hans Christian Andersen (“The Snow Queen”), visually amazing, with inspiring music, this heartwarming story is set in a frozen winter wonderland with much to offer for kids of all ages. Although beautifully entertaining (literally several hundred animators created this for Disney, receiving its first Oscar nod), the messages delivered are aplenty. Comingof-age and coming-to-terms with powerful emotions, the enduring strength of love, learning authentic self-expression, grappling with our unique gifts, how to be safe but still true to one’s spirit, and carefully evaluating who we might choose to bond with. Definitely see on a

B

I

Her

With Joaquin Phoenix, Amy Adams, Scarlett Johansson Entertainment: 4 Message: 4.5 his inventive film and its clever, Oscar-winning screenplay turns on the performance of Joaquin Phoenix, and his absorption in the role. Taking place just far enough in the future to be plausible, he gradually “falls in love” (forms an emotional attachment) with a “disembodied spirit” of sorts — a mere operating system — fully “fleshed out” by the alluring and virtually seductive voice of Scarlett Johansson. This love interest goes well beyond the iPhone’s Siri 2.0, stirring present-day societal issues about where to draw the line with such seemingly lifelike inanimate objects. Too much time with our glorified gizmos delivers a poor substitute for real, flesh-and-blood human relationships. Thus, a cautionary tale about outsourcing our emotional life to some form of “artificial” intelligence, since we are predisposed to forming the kind of attachment featured in Her. In fact, such “pair bond” attachment is a biological imperative, laid out for us by our DNA. Brilliant film worth watching, even if you don’t own (or ever want to own) a “smart” phone.

T

The Monuments Men

With George Clooney, Matt Damon , Bill Murray , John Goodman, Jean Dujardin Entertainment: 3.5 Message: 3.5 he star-studded cast alone carries this intriguing and informative piece, based on historical events. Revealing the extent of Nazi theft of original art, and featuring the seven brave men (art historians and museum curators, not soldiers) who were drafted by FDR to set about reclaiming and returning the treasures, prepare to partake in their quest to preserve a millennium of cultural history. Even (and especially) if you are not a fan of wartime thrillers, but interested in gaining the perspective of this shocking and fascinating story, it is well written, directed and told by George Clooney (1 hr 30 min).

by Susan Diamond & Orion Foxwood erpent’s Kiss in Santa Cruz is hosting its third annual Conjure Con event April 11—14. The unique chemistry that exists with the members of the Conjure Crossroads family (a collective of Spirit Workers from various paths) is a rare treat in the magical community. They come together out of a commitment to promoting and preserving the healing and helping benefits of conjure practice. American Folk Magic came into being via the rich magical practices brought here through the forced migration of Africans who incorporated the local wisdom of the indigenous Native Americans with their own. While drawing on both European pagan and Christian mysticism practices and beliefs, what has evolved is a uniquely American melting pot practice. Whether it is through setting lights, spiritual cleansings, fixing a mojo, or a petition to the ancestors, the conjurer has been helping people in local communities for over 200 years. Santa Cruz has long been a hub for healers and health practitioners, which is one of the reasons why the Conjure Crossroads folks are bringing this event to Santa Cruz. This year’s presenters are: Starr Casas of OldStyleConjure.com, author of 8 books on various conjure topics including Read’en Dem Conjure Bones and The Spiritual Cleansing Book, two topics that she will be covering at this year’s event, Starr has also published her own Divinition Deck. She’s been a Conjure worker for over 40 years out of SE Texas. Orion Foxwood, orionfoxwood.com and 2hoodoos.com, who is well known internationally as well as locally for his Faery Practices and books on the subject, and has recently published a book on Conjure called The Candle and the Crossroads, will share his knowledge on The Eye that Eats and The Ground We Stand Upon: Working with The Earth. His father was part Lakota and his culture is Southern and Appalachian. Susan Diamond, Serpents-Kiss.com, will be offering workshops on Perfect Timing: Pulling Power From Time, Cycles and Rhythms and Seaside Sorcery: Working with the Potent Powers of the Ocean. tion and sympathetic magic as a child from her matrilineal grandmother, and she inherited the witch blood from her father’s Italian ancestors. Shimmering Wolf, ShimmeringWolf.com, is the tech and artistic genius of Conjure Crossroads. He designs websites and promotional materials, product labels, and multimedia. Shimmering Wolf also leads fire circles and other events to engage people in direct connection to spirit through play, music, ecstatic dance, and song. In addition to offering individual Workshops, the Conjure Crossroads crew will be teaming up and offering their collective insights in the following workshops: • Forging the Spirit of the Flame • Ice, Ice… Baby!—Cooling Conjure for a Hot Mess • The Path to Prosperity: Why Do We Block it? How Do We Conjure It? • Prosperous Head to Toe: Hands-on Cleansing and Conjure Work for Prosperity Conjure Con will culminate with a Fire Magic Intensive; an overnight skills building event to take place on Monday, at a location in the redwoods. For more information visit the website at www.conjurecon.com. The Conjure Crossroads family is anticipating a shared experience of fun, magic, learning, and community with you! Join us! Susan Diamond is local owner/ operator of Serpent’s Kiss Magic Shop and Crossroads Community Space which support and supply the many spiritual traditions of Santa Cruz. She personally makes many of the items found at her shop. She is a practicing Witch, Astrologer, Shamanic Practitioner, Spiritual Consultant/Coach, Reader and Rootworker, 2015 N. Pacific Avenue, Santa Cruz, CA 95060, (831) 423-5477, www.serpents-kiss.com. Orion Foxwood is known for his teachings and books on traditional second sight and folkloric Faery practices and the conjurers of the American South. BEAUTY

IS AN

B

by Adora Deva eauty comes in all sizes, shapes, colors and forms. When I see a person lit up, that’s when I see beauty shining through them from within. When someone is being authentic, their light Shines upon the world to see them as they truly are. Beauty is when someone is willing to follow their passion and share them openly with others. Beauty arises when someone shares who they are with you, and you choose to remain present to who you and they are without the mind’s opinions sharing a moment of timeless, deep connection. It’s this light in your heart that connects with the light in their heart, and you feel the beauty and share the expansive awareness of what our Being is. We all have gifts to share, and being willing to shine our light is so powerful for us, as it is the gift we give to others by being true to our real nature. When we’re being authentic, we draw the people to ourselves that will really see us, believe in us, appreciate and love us as we are, and who will be present to our love and acceptance as well. Have you ever been so caught up in what others might think about you that you didn’t share what you felt, thought, or had to offer because someone might laugh at you? Well I have many times. It has limited my self-expression far too often. Have you ever wanted to change your life or your career but were afraid to make a change?

“OUR NEED

FOR

INSIDE JOB I have always loved this quote by Anais Nin: “And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.” You know the situations can stay the way they are, but when we see them with new eyes or hear with new ears, our world changes in big ways. When you feel small or stuck, what does it take for you to risk Shining? Be willing to be the change you want to see. Be what you love; love what you do. Take a stand for yourself! We can choose to focus on our dreams, our vision, not on the potholes in the road. Did you know that each thought we have has a different chemical reaction in our bodies and that our beliefs alter our genetic code? “Change your thoughts... change your beliefs… change your life.” It takes a certain courage to be our true selves. In my life, I’m committed to help others see their unique beauty and divinity within, and to love themselves as they are. I’m committed to help people follow their heart, their dreams and their passions. To me, this is beauty worth being. The Music of the Spheres:

Astrological Insights by Susan Heinz Astrology for March 2014,

N

Year of the Horse Gallops On ight hangs on the edge of dawn as Venus, a shout of shimmering brightness, calls us to awaken to the splendor and beauty of this cosmos/ earth in which we live! Scorpio rises to catch the Moon and the Big Dipper pours itself toward the northern horizon. Look up! This is the universe that holds us and calls us into being! The sleeping giant of humanity lumbers itself slowly and violently to the edge of destruction and renewal. Sparks of light ignite the hearts of many to wakefulness hearing the call of spring to a new dawn. (The Uranus, Pluto alignment). The wood element, in Chinese astrology, now pushes itself upward in growth. The Horse has been galloping through the night, traversing Aquarian skies and Piscean seas of our beings, stimulating new ideas, group movements, and stirring an array of feelings. Catch the reins of intent and attention! Your navigating point through the fast and rapid waters is your intention. March 1st brings Mars to retrograde. The planet of action slows, intensity grows, and actions switch course. (Witness this in the news, with friends, and yourself). Our fiery interiors call out to be heard. Now is the time to turn inward and take stock of what you are creating. Deepen your understanding of your motivations. Seek out truth. This is the time to review and refine our actions, like a dancer watching her movements in the mirror. We feel more potently our own needs, connected with our deepest desires. Be patient. Move with restrain and self-reflection. Deepen what has been started. Hold back on initiating large projects. Witness humanity’s growth, change, resistance, and transformation. We are in the labor pains of new birth on all levels! Organizations will need reconfiguration, rather than pushing forward. Mars in Libra conjuncts the eclipse point (north node). Now we learn our Libran lessons. Pause, breathe, balance, center. Each relationship is an opportunity for reflection. You attract in what you need to grow. We aren’t separate from each other, but in an exquisite web of interconnectedness that’s becoming more and more apparent. Reel back any blame. Be creative and find new pathways for fulfillment, healing, and resolution. Pushing the same agenda just won’t

work anymore. The full moon takes place on the 16th, gracing the coming Spring Equinox when the Sun moves into impulsive and pioneering Aries, on the 20th. The potent new moon on the 30th dares us to enact new beginnings in our lives, innovative and radically different! Switch things up! Twelve Opportunities for March: For Sun and Rising Signs Aries (Mar 20-Apr 19): This month, rein yourself in. It won’t benefit you to keep up your intense pace. Look over the whole month. Find how you can streamline your schedule to slow down, breathe deeply, find your balance, and scrutinize your behavior, seeing what drives you. You will receive a shift in consciousness that frees you if you do. Taurus (Apr 20—May 20): As Mars goes retrograde, you can breath a sigh of relief. This is your modality, to deepen, go inward, and feel into what is true for you. Rearrange schedules and routines, to refine, and support your original intentions. Attend to your body. Shift habits that no longer serve you. Continue the work you are pursuing on your own. Gemini (May 21—Jun 20): Slow your momentum, focalize your mind with a deeper recommitment to your intention. Simplify your outgoing energy and output. Ground yourself more fully at home. Get in the soil. New insights will break up old ways of being. Don’t get swept away. Cancer (Jun 21—Jul 21): As the sap rises, come back home, nurture your roots, family relations, home environment, your deep self. You are being pruned! Simplify and listen to your inner song. Say no. Now is a powerful balancing act. Dare to liberate yourself, and reaffirm your new beginning and intentions. Correct what is needed. Leo (Jul 22—Aug 22): The call is for love! Examine your thinking. Be in inquiry to your own thinking, the things you tell yourself. Dig deeper and don’t let yourself slide by. Communications take up more importance. Examine your intentions, your motivations. Pause your fiery nature and feel into your poetry, your art, and what you love. Ask yourself, how can I open myself right now to greater fulfillment? Virgo (Aug 23—Sep 22): Claim yourself! Carve out the time to tap your inner resources, which will provide you with knowledge and experience of who you really are. You create a sense of security and grounding now through this understanding. This shall be your focus right now. Ask, how am I expending my energy, my finances, and simplify. Bring your attention to your most personal intentions. Libra (Sep 23—Oct 22): This is the time to examine how you meet the world. What are your assumptions? What motivates you to action? What angers you? The answers to these questions clarify your deeper desires.

March is the month to deepen your experience of yourself, what you want, and how to go about it. Review, adjust, and fine-tune your intentions. These actions free you into new beginnings at the Spring Equinox. Scorpio (Oct 23—Nov 21): Love and/or creativity have fueled you recently! Honor the unique time through which you are moving. Create space to continue this deep connection, giving yourself time from the rush of the world. Cultivate balance, and poise within and without in your relations. As energy picks up in Spring, breathe deeply. Don’t over schedule your life. Sagittarius (Nov 22—Dec 20): You begin the month with a renewed sense of creativity and love. Keep your life simple as March unfolds. This is the time to review your intentions, your goals, adjust your ideals and reexamine your relations. Take time to reflect on commitments with others and refine any collaborations. Refrain from initiating big projects until May 20th. Capricorn (Dec 21—Jan 19): You’re much more sensitive than you acknowledge! Your drive is strong, and propels you toward your goals and responsibilities. This month, slow your pace in all parts of your life. Let yourself reflect on the goals you have set, and fine-tune them. Correct any assumptions you have of how things should be. Instead, honor your own instinct. Be patient. Your intuition will guide you. Aquarius (Jan 20—Feb 17): Aquarians are known for their insights, mental agility, and brilliance. This month, set aside your books and reflect deeply on the beliefs that shape your life. Be alert to the unconscious beliefs that shape your daily responses. As you refine your larger view of situations, be ready to let go of what is not useful. When traveling this month, take your time, don’t hurry. Issues may arise that have come before. Be patient, clear, and compassionate as you become more focused on what you need. Pisces (Feb 18—Mar 19): This year has brought you love, creativity and enjoyment. It may seem challenging to leave the imaginative, playful environment you have been immersed in. But trust the thread that leads you to new places. Allow your vulnerability to lead you into greater intimacy, rather than overwhelm you. Be like a dancer dancing through fields of feeling and perception, freeing up that which has been stuck. Intuitive Insights: We Have Ideas, If Only...

ow many of us are creative geniuses with the potential of becoming billionaires? We have ideas, if only... It’s difficult finding time to file papers that arrived in the last two weeks, let alone the boxes of career documentation that may span years. Yet a proper Feng Shui optimizes joyful productivity. Even a few minutes each day will relieve the paper piles, establish files and clear the office desk. Keeping areas defined and functional requires refinement: updating mailing lists, data entry, finances, website,

product development, and much more. Overwhelm—get a clone, some investment money, a day in the garden. Time to make lists and keep on track. It takes ingenuity, clear thought, focus and right action to cultivate and establish a desirable lifestyle. Establishing an ecosystem that supports an ecology based on right action requires individuals who can intuit a correct act. The complex of a community and its environment, functioning as a natural ecological unit, comprises an ecosystem. Each human being comprises a community of integrated, or not, personalities interacting with numerous other individual human communities. Cooperation becomes key to function effectively within this complexity of potential. When we self-organize, integrate and effectively express orderly functioning, we support an ecology that sustains community and creates life worth living.

CANNABIS FOR SLEEP

by Deborah Malka MD, PhD rimary insomnia is sleeplessness that is not derived from medical or environmental causes. Difficulty may occur in getting to sleep or staying asleep. Often the mind is overactive and doesn’t allow rest. It affects 20-30% of adults. Insomnia can occur during times of stress and may be associated with altered neurochemicals such as the “sleep” neurotransmitters (serotonin or GABA), or with increased stress hormone (cortisol). Sleeplessness may also occur as a result of a substance abuse or a withdrawal problem. Disturbance of the biological clock, such as from a shift in time zones or different job shifts can also result in insomnia. Poor sleep habits often contribute to the problem. Medical conditions that cause insomnia include sleep apnea, restless legs, night sweats and pain. Standard medical treatments include the use of sleeping pills such as benziodiazpines such as Restoril, or hypnotics such as Ambien. Over the counter products containing the antihistamine Benadryl are often tried. And antidepressants such as Trazodone, are used by many. All of these can be habit forming and have unwanted side effects. Alternative therapies are often helpful, including melatonin, LTryptophan—an amino acid, and herbal formulas containing valerian root—a sedative, kava-kava—a sedative and relaxant, California poppy—a sedative and relaxant, and passion flower—a

he Buzz in the Relationship Marketing Industry isn’t about marijuana it’s about Kannaway, a hemp lifestyle company with a focus on nutritional wellness whose products contain CBD rich hemp oil. The company is currently in it’s “Buzz Launch” phase leading up to an April 1st launch where they will unveil their initial product lines. As a relationship marketing company, Kannaway is taking a very unique approach to entering the market. By offering a “specific” compensation for it’s Buzz Launch phase, Kannaway has created a very significant impact in the market already. After the “Buzz Launch”, on April 1st, Kannaway will launch with it’s first two product lines out of the over 70 products currently in it’s release time line. Initially, the Kannaway products will focus on a cutting edge anti-aging line called Cannabis Beauty Defined formulated with a proprietary 13 th century Korean Bi-Bong formula, as well as a sleek, sexy approach to the current vap-pen craze called the HempVap. The vaping lifestyle is taking college campus across America by storm and Kannaway is positioned to offer a healthy alternative with the HempVap. This sexy product will en-

relaxant. Avid insomniacs often find that meditation or sleep induction CDs can bring relief. And when all else fails, or is no longer working, more and more people are turning to marijuana to treat insomnia and or pain during the nighttime hours. Insomnia and Cannabis Most patients who have found success with cannabis for insomnia report improved sleep with less drowsiness the next day as compared with over the counter or prescription medication. Patients who use cannabis for insomnia often can reduce or eliminate their previous sleeping medicines, with fewer side effects. Many pharmaceuticals that are used to help insomnia may also cause insomnia as they are withdrawn, or skipped. Cannabis does not create the same sort of dependence; you can use it as needed. Indica strains are best used as sedatives. Inhaled marijuana has a duration of action that lasts 3-4 hours. I often hear from patients that they have not been able to do without their sleeping pills when they smoke or vaporize their cannabis. They notice that they still get up in the middle of the night, typically 4 hours after they go to bed. It’s important to use cannabis in a long-acting form, such as capsules or edibles if you find you’re waking up in the middle of the night. Due to improved product information with lab-testing of cannabinoid content, we now know that CBN—cannabinol, is an important component for

sedation. Fresh samples of marijuana contain very little CBN; but curing, poor storage, or processing such as when making hashish, can cause much of the THC to be degraded to CBN. Also during the long cooking times used in making edibles, some CBN is often present. This turns out to be a good thing for effectiveness as a sleep-aid. Look for a low percentage of CBN in your product, around 1-5%. Remember to ingest your medicine at least one hour before you want to sleep as it takes at least that long to take effect. Some of you may be wondering how CBD fits into the picture for sleep. IT IS DOSE DEPENDENT! At low doses it may be stimulating, but in the higher doses of High CBD medicine, it generally helps sleep. Project CBD.org, a good resource on all aspects of CBD medicine, states “CBD has been mistakenly described as sedating. In modest doses, CBD is mildly alerting. Cannabidiol activates the same adenosine receptors as caffeine, a stimulant. But several patients with sleep issues report that ingesting a CBD-rich tincture or extract a few hours before bedtime has a balancing effect that facilitates a good night’s sleep.” Dr. Deborah Malka is an Integrative Medicine physician and a Cannabis clinical specialist.
