Next Up

Mina Rowland ‘25

I have been reflecting on what change means to me and particularly looking at women of color who are so often invisible changemakers. In my work I aim to highlight the marks people make but through a lens of the next generation. This piece, Next Up, is an invitation to reimagine our society and change through our generation. All the names of the women depicted in their youth are fictional however their initials represent women who have changed and are changing the world. The women are as follows: Mira Yasakki is MalalaYousafzaiandSofiaSpaldingisSoniaSotomayor,MayaOstinis MichelleObama,WillowLonghornisWinonaLaDukeandJessicaGoodpine isJaneGoodall. As a young woman of color I have not only been influenced by women in various fields but their work is a constant source of inspiration for me as I grow and learn. I can’t wait to see the next generation of changemakers!
