“It’s All Good” BSLF! BSC! and OSAD! Some of us didn’t know what the acronym OSAD meant. This subject is visited again on page 2 however, a student of African Descent attending State University of New York at Brockport during the late 60’s and early 70’s was in all likelihood, connected with the student government organization called “BSLF.” There was a brief name change in the late 70’s to “BSC.” So it isn’t surprising that many African American Students matriculating during this era never heard the acronym “OSAD.” Regardless of what the student organization was named during our academic careers, one thing is certain… this group embraced and love the campus and our heritage. CONNECTIONS One very important thing we must realize is this: we are connected to all. We are connected to the trees, the birds, the raindrops, the animals, other people, everything that exists is connected to us electrically. We are all made of the same substance: energy. This means that EVERYONE is our brother or sister, and we have kinship with every thing that exists. We should deal with every person and every thing respectfully, and with great thought and care, realizing that our thoughts and beliefs about each person and thing can effect them… for the “Good.” This is “ All Good.”

PRINCIPLES FOR OSAD Many of us think that we are entitled to respect because of job position or economic status. How much you make or what you drive doesn't give self entitlement! How you treat others and more importantly yourself does! That is respect! You can't demand it. You can't expect it. You just have to extend it to others and then it will be extended to you! It’s amazing how empowering simple messages of hope and love can be. When we reach out to one another we are actually reaching into each other’s hearts with the healing hands of GOD's grace and mercy. It is our words, our support, and our love that carries us to higher ground and from being swept out into a sea of despair. So let's keep this program of ours moving and growing. Invite people you know who are strong in spirit and ready for battle into our circle. Recruit those who are like you, strong and wise in the way of love, and unity. Let's create our own tsunami that will strengthen and empower the principles we have established in this project called OSAD reuniting. Rise up and be counted! There is much work to do! If not us than who? It is also apparent that this circle has become more than just a forum for reuniting. We are not always in good moods at the same time, however we can always be there to lift those who need lifting, support those who need support, and pray for those who need prayer. What is truly amazing is that we don't always know who needs what, when, but that just through simple and continued communication our needs seem to be met without even asking! Let’s continue to reach out and touch one another. Continue to share opinions, thoughts, and the love that seems to flow so freely amongst us. It can make a difference! It does make a difference. We are OSAD...Organization for Students of African Descent! Can't you feel it?

GRATITUDE MANY THOUGHTS, MANY IMAGES OF EXPERIENCES LONG GONE. MANY EMOTIONS, MANY BLESSINGS OF CONNECTIONS REBORN. THERE WERE STORIES TOLD AND LAUGHTER SHARED, OF GREAT TIMES IN THE PAST. WONDERFULLY WHIMSICAL MEMORIES OF YOUTH NOT MEANT TO LAST. THERE WERE CRIES OF JOY & SADNESS, FOR THOSE NO LONGER HERE. THEY WERE HONORED WITH FOND REMEMBRENCE, & WITH LOVE LACED IN EVERY TEAR. WE ACKNOWLEDGED THOSE THAT CAME BEFORE US, AND FOR THE FOUNDATION WHICH THEY LAYED. FOR EXAMPLES SET, SACRIFICES MADE, AND FOR THE PARTS IN OUR LIVES PLAYED. YES IT WAS A TIME OF GREAT CELEBRATION, WE PARTIED FOR THREE GLORIOUS DAYS. SO MANY COUNTLESS YEARS OF MEMORIES, SHARED IN SO MANY COUNTLESS WAYS. THE INDESCESTIONS OF OUR YOUTH, HAVE FADED WITH TIME, BUT THAT WEEKEND IN AUGUST WILL LAST FOREVER IN OUR MINDS. SO LET THESE WORDS BE A TESTAMENT, TO THE SPECIAL TIME TOGETHER WE SHARED. LET ALL WHO READ THEM KNOW HOW MUCH, FOR EACH OTHER WE CARED. ALL PRAISES TO THE MOST HIGH, FOR A BLESSED WEEKEND OF FUN. AND A SPECIAL TOAST TO MALIK, FOR A JOB WELL DONE. “Let’s pray that we all find strength from that place within us that GOD resides during challenging times. Let’s pray that we grow through whatever it is that blocks or binds us, and are better because of it. Let’s pray that GOD whispers in our ears always and often to continue to be the united front for future students of OSAD. Let’s continue to pray and our hope is that we will pray these things for each other and forever!” TJ
