Sheila Hill of Chicago celebrated a special milestone on Wednesday, August 23, 2017. The Hardin House Recovery House Manager proudly displayed on her Facebook page that sobriety has been an uninterrupted way of life for four consecutive years. As she gave God the accolades and all the glory, her friends and followers proudly expressed their love and admiration for the clean and sober lifestyle she has embraced.

heila paroled to Hardin House, Inc., Recovery & Transitional Program in October 2014 She came straight to the program from the Illinois Department of Corrections. In fact, it was her 5th re-entry effort. oday, the mother of two shares her story with passion and conviction. She speaks openly and honestly about her struggle with substance abuse for 20 plus years. With the support of her loving mother and the staff at Drexel Counseling Services, Inc., Sheila put an end to recidivism after she came home the fifth and final time. Her ardent desire to return to the spiritual foundation in which she was raised was characterized by her dedication to her sobriety, the treatment plan implemented by her counselors, and her decision to turn her will and life over to the care of God.

he efficacy in which Sheila employed her new way of life, as well as her adherence to a clean and serene lifestyle, soon came to the attention of the Founder and Executive Director of Hardin House. A job offer was extended and she effectively took on the role as lead House Manager for the organization’s flagship program house at the end of the year in 2014.
uring her tenure as House Manager for nearly three years, Sheila has been recognized as a strong and powerful pacesetter. Her leadership skills has proven to be instrumental in assisting other clients from the experience of recidivism and relapse. She has been trained to create service and treatment plans for new clients, and takes an active role in their personal road to recovery. She is dependable, reliable and employs 100% integrity in every facet of the job . She has also managed multiple houses simultaneously for the organization while recruitment of new house management was being sought. She has trained new Hardin House, House Managers. 2

heila will tell you that the life skills she employed to maintain her sobriety were not all easy. “One must first understand that past mistakes are part of the learning and recovery process. Once you have committed to a recovery plan, commitment, honesty, meetings and the will to reach out to a Higher Power are all essential if you want to get it right this time,” she stated.

fter attending Richard T. Crane High School on Chicago’s Westside for four years, and earning an athletic scholarship to go to college, Sheila fell short in her bid to obtain her high school degree. She was on track to graduate in 1992. with her class.

or the next twenty years she shifted back and forth from street drugs and other behaviors that landed her in prison five times. A dream deferred is not a dream denied. In 2016, Sheila returned and completed her High School Diploma at Jean Hughes, an educational curriculum part of the Michael Barlow Center Educational Programs in Chicago, IL. She proudly walked across the stage and received her diploma on April 29, 2017.
Sheila was also acknowledged at her commencement ceremony for outstanding attendance. She did not miss one day of school/class during the entire matriculating process.

oday, at the wonderful age of 44, she is still a loving mother, a proud grandmother of one, daughter, manager, AA/NA Sponsor, motivational speaker, trainer, and a God fearing woman with so many accolades to go.

e can’t wait to witness what is next for Sheila. However, we know it will be huge. And for that we say… “To God Be The Glory” and “Continue To Rise Up.”
