products, hoards of splendid exhibitors and exciting and unique attractions. That’s what we are told to expect but wait….. something is stirring, this year the voice of sense, sensibility, sociability and sustainability is there! The Considerate Hotelier’s Workshops will deliver a programme designed to give hoteliers valuable training and education in key sustainability topics. The best news of all is that for CH members it is free! Don’t waste this opportunity – there are savings to be made, planets to save and by golly, it would be good to see you! Learn from the Masters – our own Sustainability guru, Chris Burgess and our specialist partners. More information here. Are you coming?
Con-Serve has your Name on it! Last week we trumpeted the arrival of our new sustainability assessment platform which we have named Con-Serve – the name seemed a natural. This week we add some substance to the hyperbole. I am of an age when phrases like crowdsourcing, platforms, benchmarking and analytics meant A) sourcing extras for a crowd scene in a movie, B) train stations, C) carving initials on a park bench and D) I daren’t even try the last one! However, for those with younger minds and improved basic intelligence here is what ConServe will do for you In detail, Con-Serve will allow Considerate Hoteliers to: Calculate the hotel carbon footprint in line with the hotel industry HCMI methodology (energy and water consumption as well as waste production and treatment), given that ConServe has integrated all the HCMI required measurements and expanded on them. Track energy, water and waste from a number of sources (including meters and utility bills) without the need for spreadsheets. View results online, generate and export their own customisable reports and review their performance against benchmarks. Compare performance (anonymously) to similar buildings in the Considerate Hoteliers database on Con-Serve and industry standards. Demonstrate transparent monitoring and continual improvement in performance of key environmental indicators – a valuable asset in achieving industry accreditations and awards. Let hotel operators and owners see what other hotels are doing across the world, how much they are saving and what their return on investments is. Share experiences and best practices with others while http://us5.campaign-archive2.com/?u=dde11f98e5ce03d93968ee089&id=98f9f4ab20&e=[UNIQID]

Bryn Elltyd Eco Guesthouse uses Welsh water to power cars! Husband and wife team John & Ceilia Whitehead who last year won the Considerate Small Accommodation Provider Awards unsurprisingly want to do even more. Their latest project has been to install a 3rd electric car charging point. John & Ceilia have a Solar Pv array to produce energy for the car charger but cannot get them to work at night! Whatever happened to the midnight sun? They are however very fortunate to have two commercial hydro plants within 200 metres of the guest house. All energy at Bryn Elltyd is from renewables so any daylight shortfall is brought in overnight by utilising local green renewable sources. Bring on the rain! Visit the website for more information!

The Considerate Hotel of the Year 2014 Awards Each week we feature a category or several and the criteria for entry. We are also contacting member hotels individually to encourage participation. This week we are homing in on three categories – Considerate UK Supplier of the Year, Considerate International Supplier of the Year, Considerate UK Local Food Supplier of the Year. Suppliers play a vital role in helping hotels and other accommodation providers in ensuring that they meet their environmental aims. This award will be presented to the supplier, nominated by a hotelier or accommodation provider, who is considered by the judges to have best met the environmental needs and ethos of the nominating accommodation business. Hoteliers and accommodation providers need to nominate the supplier they believe most embodies ecoconcerns within their products (taking account of everything from sourcing, ingredients/content, sustainability and social responsibility, to value for money and quality of service) – in short, a supplier that is a great all-rounder in these respects. The nominated supplier will be placed in one of the three categories: UK Supplier, International Supplier and UK Local Food Supplier. The category allows a hotel to enter the awards in "partnership" with a supplier who the hotelier believes "has it all"; and is dedicated, ethical, and passionate when it comes to the environment, sustainability and social responsibility. See the judging criteria and entry form for more details.
