TOASTMASTERS IFTAR

DTAC 2015 Competing in DTAC 2015 was a life changing experience. Being one of the youngest and least experienced competitors was a challenge, but I had the chance to learn from World Class speakers who are far more advanced than I am. The general atmosphere of the competition was astonishing; everything was well-organized and planned for. The competition itself was a bit difficult because there’s a huge amount of pressure and intimidation. I might not have won a trophy but I have certainly equipped myself with enough knowledge to win

Out of Consolidated Consultants Toastmasters Club’s vision and mission of creating a friendly atmosphere, and strong bonds between members and other employees, CCTM club held an iftar event hosted at Kan Zamaan. The venue was the perfect place for the event. Ramadan’s spirit was filling the place and the food was simply amazing. CCTM club’s events are never complete without a twist of fun. We got to play charades and other fun games on the terrace where good acting skills were explored! Our agenda for year 2015/2016 will include a broad range of fun and social activities for the club members and company›s employees as well. www.group-cc.com

M A N A G E M E N T S E R V I C E S dimension CC KSA has recently signed the supervision services agreement with Abdel Latif Al Issa Group in Riyadh for the construction of the Groups’ Headquarter building. The architectural concept and engineering design were conducted at CC Groups’ Amman office. The concept design reflects the modern corporate identity of the client, while the building will house the management operations of the vast variety of commercial and industrial businesses under the umbrella of Abdel Latif Al Issa Group. As ambitious as its Profile, Abdel Latif Al Issia Group (ALIG) Headquarters is located iconically within the city of Riyadh, KSA. The site is situated on two plots with a combined area of 3,300 sqm on the edge of a main highway. The main design objective was to create a branded icon, one that reflects the contemporary identity of the corporation it harbors. Externally the headquarters evolves as a landmark among the prevailing medium-rise context. Internally, a contemporary and interactive work environment is created; enhancing

quality of space and encouraging high performance. The distribution of program components followed the organizational structure of ALIG and responded to the different natures and levels of interaction required for each department. A bold facade composition that is visually and physically enhancing was articulated. Formal openings that respond to the functional components are animated by modernized traditional patterns and variouslyscaled voids that interplay shade and light, solidity and transparency. To complement the exterior facade is an extended entry plaza of 20m, leading towards the main entry gate of the Headquarters. The landscape further extends to within the Headquarters through two double-volume internal gardens which augment each of the office floors and creates a pleasing and contemporary introverted working environment.»

Rainfall Stations at Major Cities of Jordan

Water budget of Jordan is about one billion cubic meters with domestic water more than 40%. The quality of water is low in general due to the water shortage at all levels. The drinking water as well is of bad quality and high in dissolve solids little less than 1000 ppm as reflect of water scarcity. The solution could be the reverse osmosis (RO) but it is required energy. The energy consumed is high at main cities of Jordan just for drinking water since household RO is very common at every house and office. The attractive solution can be rainwater harvesting using no energy out of houses roofs. The only extra infrastructure required is a storage tank, which must be feasible economically or otherwise will be wasting energy. Building large storage tank for no rainwater to be stored is

the waste. This practice is common as a result of wrong interpretation of rainfall measurements. Rainfall records of nine major cities in Jordan are investigated and average annual rainfall-runoff coefficients are developed to guide the sizing of the storage tanks. The selected rainfall stations are of average annual rainfall of as low as 40 mm per annum at Ma’an city up to 625 mm per annum at Ajloun city. The resulted average annual runoff coefficients are very low for Ma’an about 5% but high at Ajloun about 50%. Power equation is developed to estimate the runoff coefficient for paved roof out of the average annual rainfall with estimated error at ± 10%.

JEA CUBE In May, 2015 Jordan Engineers Association has laid the cornerstone for their anticipated new headquarters; an essential component of the Associations City located on the major artery of Urdun Road. The new headquarters, branded as JEA Cube, embodies a renewed vision as a reflection and transformation of the Association’s vital role in the community it serves. As an entity that is responsible for the national and regional upgrade and progression of the profession of engineering; the architectural articulation of such an entity is equally contemporary, farsighted and inventive.

The cornerstone ceremony was hosted by JEA council headed by JEA President Eng. Abdullah Ebeidat. Eng, Ebeidat declared the project an advancement for the nation, JEA, as well as all professional associations. In his speech he urged the rest of the associations to commence development of their lands in order to complete and realize the vision of Association City. Furthermore he commended the efforts of Greater Amman Municipality, as well as the architectural and engineering teams in CC Group, responsible for the design and development of JEA Cube. In his speech, architect Shadi Abdulsalam of CC Group proclaimed the ceremony a commemoration of the future, as it realizes a dream often envisaged by architects and engineers of the nation;

that is a modern institution, open for all, transparent and inviting. He paid homage to the mentors who passed on their dream, particularly our great architect Jafar Tukan, may his soul rest in peace. JEA Cube resides on an uphill plot of approximately 10,897m2 land area. It will host the different administrations and offices of JEA as well as the public facilities and renowned training center. It is part of the first phase of the development of JEA Headquarters, and is compactly designed on almost half the plot (6,000 m2). The remaining land is reserved for future expansion schemes. The design of JEA Cube not only responds to a vital need to restructure the organizational hierarchies of JEA and cease the current state of dispersion among its buildings; but also to realize

the aspiration to renew, vitalize and create an interactive scene that appeals to Engineers of all specialties, groups and ages. JEA Cube will be identified as a destination for all engineers; a hub where they can communicate and interact on various levels, professionally, culturally and socially. The name JEA Cube reflects the symbolic form of the engineered 36m-edged cube that composes the main vertical volume. The elevated cube enhances a visually iconic presence. Furthermore, it provides a flexible, adaptive and modular framework to host diverse working environments that are contemporary and interactive. To contrast the built volume of the cube, visually and functionally, an extended square presents a ceremonial plaza and celebrated entrance to the CUBE as it sculpts its mass to introduce the interactive space of a central atrium. Additionally, the square transcends users through its courtyard to different levels, linking to the many public venues within JEA. Created is a reinvented, bold landmark. One that responds to the cultural, social, economic and climatic needs and aspirations of its community and context.
