It was decided that a combined show would become “a tradeshow for the ages,” and so the first ConExpo-Con/AGG show was held in 1996 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

The setting and dual configuration allowed manufacturers to exhibit a wide range of diverse equipment, technology and products. It broke records over the years.

In 2020, ConExpo reached almost 3 million square feet of exhibit space and hosted more than 2,300 exhibitors.

“Needless to say, we look forward to the 2023 show and continuing to see a thriving industry,” said AEM. “While ConExpo-Con/AGG displays the latest equipment and technology for the construction and aggregates industries, we reflect back on our roots and how far we’ve come from some of the early equipment prototypes.”

Doing the Walkaround

In 1909, horse-drawn graders were a crucial piece of machinery for both highway officials and road-building contractors.

The steam mixer, used in early paving operations, drew thousands to the Road Show, considered the ‘World’s Fair of the Construction Industry.’

Graders of all sizes and makes, featuring six speeds forward, three reverse, power steering and 120 horsepower, were on display that year.

“Horsepower was a comparison back then as it still is important in modern machines — albeit in a much less literal sense,” said SANY America.

At the 1957 show in Chicago, contractors could also compare every American-made paver in operation.

“It was the largest indoor trade show ever staged in the U.S.,” said AEM.

In fact, the Chicago International Amphitheatre was

enlarged by 100,000 square feet to accommodate the event.

For 2023, AEM is proud of the successful addition of the new West Hall and Diamond Lot at the Las Vegas Convention Center. These additions have shown “how we are taking the construction industry to the next level,” said Dana Wuesthoff, show director. “Now at 2.8 million square feet of exhibits, there’s more for construction pros to see than ever before.”

Nearly 5 percent bigger than the 2020 record size, ConExpo will feature 1,800 exhibitors and 175-plus education sessions during its run in March.

“Recent additions to the Las Vegas Convention Center [LVCC] will make it the easiest to get around as well,” said AEM.

Enough for Everyone

Beneath the entire LVCC campus runs the Convention Center Loop, an underground transportation system.

It will transport convention attendees throughout the campus in under two minutes in Tesla vehicles, free of charge.

“This is the event that construction professionals can’t miss,” said Phil Kelliher, show chair and Caterpillar senior vice president. “Seeing the new equipment and techniques on a screen doesn’t compare to seeing it all in person.”

Attendees can see the equipment, ask questions of the manufacturers themselves and really understand what the equipment and education can do for career and business, said Kelliher.

SANY America believes ConExpo, held every three years, is “the must-attend show” for anyone working in construction or materials.

The venue has grown and expanded, as well. Since that first combined show in 1996, ConExpo has stayed at the LVCC.

Just more than a decade later, attendance reached its peak

— 144,600 attendees at the 2008 show.

In 2017, ConExpo swelled to cover its largest footprint yet, spanning more than 2.8 million square feet of event, training and exhibitor space.

Past shows have highlighted the capabilities and possibilities offered by telematics, remote fleet monitoring and fleet utilization reporting.

The “Internet of Things” and connected devices, computer-assisted workflows and even 3D printing in construction have been front and center.

And the 2017 show featured the world’s first-ever 3Dprinted excavator, said SANY America.

“New tech has made this show continue to draw crowds looking to see the latest and greatest the industry has to offer year after year.”

This year, ConExpo-Con/AGG has hosted a creative competition for kids, with prizes sponsored by Sherwin Williams.

Winning artwork and selected pieces representing various age categories will be part of an art installation in Las Vegas.

The works of art will be displayed in the education area on the 2nd floor of West Hall Las Vegas Convention Center for viewing throughout the show.

Youth up to age 15 are encouraged to enter one original drawing or painting that includes a piece of construction equipment.

The top three winners in each age category will receive a cash prize compliments of Sherwin Williams.

“This is a fun new feature that will encourage children who love art and just might be enamored with construction equipment to participate,” said Wuesthoff, “If you think about it, art and construction are very similar. The artist, architect or engineer’s intentions are present and the space is full of possibilities.”  CEG

Cat Set to Showcase Its Largest ConExpo Exhibit Ever

The stage is set for Caterpillar’s largest exhibit to date at ConExpo-Con/AGG 2023 where the company will highlight its latest products, services and technologies while paying tribute to those who build the world’s infrastructure.

The company’s 70,000 sq. ft. outdoor demonstration arena will anchor the massive display known as Operator Stadium located in the expo’s Festival Lot.

New Caterpillar technology, services and sustainability hubs provide visitors the opportunity to look beyond the iron for ways to increase operating efficiencies and improve machine uptime. Visitors will find new and current models and battery-electric machine prototypes during the expo from March 14-18 in Las Vegas.

Latest Equipment

The extensive Cat equipment display in the Festival Lot includes more than 30 machines, including model unveilings and battery-electric model prototypes with charging stations. Visitors will see two main equipment demonstrations each day — one focused on the latest Cat Technology, and one that will spotlight the company’s full equipment line up. Additionally, Caterpillar will be providing unique daily spotlight demonstrations that will take a deep dive into key industry topics including improving fuel efficiency and jobsite efficiency, the evolution of technology, and convenient, scalable solutions for all customers.

The new Cat 950 medium wheel loader on display offers premium performance and simple-to-use technologies to help boost operator efficiency and increase productivity, while extended service intervals help lower maintenance costs.

Visitors will be treated to a preview of the Next Generation Cat 926, 930 and 938 small wheel loaders — slated for production in late 2023 — which feature new technologies designed to make work easier, a reimagined operator environment and extended service intervals.

For paving contractors, the half-lane Cat PM822 cold

planer features integrated Cat Grade technology and the latest System K rotor options that deliver performance, productivity and cutting precision. With its compact size, enhanced mobility and easy transport, the Cat AP455 Mobil-trac asphalt paver offers great features for both large and small contactors when paving urban streets, parking lots and rural roads.

Furthermore, a new three-dimensional screed plate with modular fastening system improves mat density and smoothness, while reducing screed plate change time up to 80 percent, according to the manufacturer.

Latest Power

Caterpillar Industrial Power Systems Division will exhibit in booth S84329 in the South Hall a wide and rapidly growing portfolio of high-efficiency Cat industrial power solu-

tions. The exhibit includes the unveiling of a new high power internal combustion engine, as well as the leading-edge lithium-ion battery technologies under development.

Engines on display, such as the C3.6 IPU, C7.1 and C9.3B, meet EU Stage V, U.S. EPA Tier IV Final emission standards and are compatible with biodiesel up to B20 and hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) to EN15940, to help customers power a better, more sustainable world. The booth also will showcase Caterpillar’s technical services and market expertise leveraged by the global Cat dealer network to maximize the efficiency and extend the lifecycles of offhighway equipment, including Cat remanufactured and service replacement engines.

Services Hub: Easy, On-the-Go

Caterpillar offers a range of service options that are easy, convenient, flexible and sustainable. The new Cat Central app is the latest tool for convenient access to genuine Cat parts and support. This on-the-go experience makes it easy for customers to find and order Cat parts, scan and shop a specific asset instantly and find answers to maintenance and support questions.

Another new service-related solution is the new Cat SIS2GO app which takes the guesswork out of maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing Cat equipment. Both apps are available on Windows, iOS and Android platforms.

The Services Hub is located in the Festival Lot, and the hub will include Caterpillar subject matter experts (SME) who will help guide attendees through several maintenance options for Cat equipment.

Customer Value Agreement (CVA) options offer easy ownership plans customized to fit a customer’s business needs to extend equipment life and maximize the investment. Cat Certified Rebuild programs return end-of-life machines, systems and components to like new condition. Cat Reman products bring new life to assets with like-new performance at a fraction of the cost of buying new. Cat SelfService Options deliver convenient, simple parts ordering and machine repair support for those who prefer to do their own service.

Team members from Cat Financial will be available to discuss the latest leasing and financing programs, including Cat Card, as well as extended protection packages to help

Caterpillar’s ‘Technology Hub’ to Tout Ease-of-Use, More

secure customers’ investments. Whether they are looking for new or used Cat machines or for repair/rebuild options to keep their current machines operational, Cat Financial experts will help customers make the right decision to support their business — no matter how large or small.

Technology Hub: Solutions for Any Operation

The Caterpillar Technology Hub in the Festival Lot will offer attendees the ability to experience a range of new and existing Cat technologies — VisionLink, Cat Command, VisionLink Productivity, Cat Detect, Cat Grade and Cat Payload. Caterpillar SMEs will be on hand to assist each customer in finding a scalable solution designed to fit the business’s needs and budget.

Its centerpiece exhibit, the “Looking Glass” cube, displays and interactively showcases the five key capabilities of the new Cat VisionLink application — Geofence & Location, Fuel Theft Alerts, Diagnostics, Idle Time/Fuel Burn, and Maintenance.

An interactive wall invites visitors to explore the full suite of VisionLink capabilities for both Cat and non-Cat equipment and non-machine assets.

The hub’s multiple Cat Command stations allow attendees to remotely operate Cat machines located more than 400 mi. away at the Tinaja Hills Demonstration and Learning Center. They are positioned to allow attendees to better experience and learn more about the Command for Dozing, Excavating and Loading technologies.

One of the Command stations allows visitors to try the

“Strike Pay Dirt Challenge,” where participants remotely control an excavator to win a prize.

Sustainability Hub: Choose Your Machine. Choose Your Power

The Caterpillar Sustainability Hub in the Festival Lot will spotlight fuel efficiency and alternative power sources; technologies to fit every operation and budget; and parts and service designed to make uptime fast and easy. Plus, customers will learn about sustainability benefits they can choose today and plan for tomorrow.

Outside the Sustainability Hub, exhibit attendees can view components of Caterpillar’s total site solution for the energy transition, including four battery-electric machine prototypes — the Cat 301.9 mini excavator, 320 medium excavator, 950 GC medium wheel loader and 906 compact wheel loader — in addition to AC and DC charging solutions.

The Caterpillar-designed batteries powering these batteryelectric machines are built on lithium-ion Cat technology with a modular design that offers flexible configurations across multiple applications.

Celebrating Operators

With the quest to prove they are the best, more than 10,000 operators representing more than 32 countries around the world registered to compete in the 2022-2023 Global Operator Challenge.

From 3,500 participants in the first round of local competitions to 84 advancing to the regional semifinals, nine of the world’s best equipment operators will demonstrate their

advanced skill, precision and stamina in hopes of being named the Global Operator Challenge Champion.

The nine finalists competing in Operator Stadium at ConExpo are:

• Pontus Eriksson, representing Zeppelin Sweden

• Sebastian Behr, representing Zeppelin Germany

• Łukasz Mokrzyski, representing Bergerat Monnoyeur Poland

• John Schiedeck, representing Holt Cat (Texas)

• Matt Ferris, representing Empire Cat (Arizona)

• Fernando do Nascimento, representing PESA (Brazil)

• Masato Imai, representing Nippon Caterpillar (Japan)

• Patrick Doheny, representing William Adams (Australia)

• Nick Thompson, representing CavPower (Australia)

The finals kick off on Tuesday morning, March 14, immediately following the expo’s grand opening ceremonies. Throughout the competition, the skills of the finalists will be put to the test in three identical challenges — excavating, loading and hauling/maneuvering the equipment through a variety of obstacles. The champion is set to be crowned on the afternoon of March 14.

All ConExpo-Con/AGG attendees are encouraged to attend the Global Operator Challenge Finals to see first-hand the new equipment, technologies and services on display in Festival Lot exhibit, F9127.

The Finals also will be broadcast live on cat.com.

For more information on the finalists, visit www.cat.com/operatorchallenge. For more information about the Cat ConExpo-Con/AGG experience, visit www.cat.com/en_US/campaigns/event/conexpo-2023.html. 

Twenty Tips From Veteran ConExpo-Con/AGG Attendees

ConExpo-Con/AGG is already the largest trade show in North America, and in 2023 it’s going to be bigger and better than ever. That means it can be a little overwhelming if you’re attending for the first time.

To prepare for the show that is set to break records, AEM ask veteran attendees to share their best advice for first timers coming to the show. Below are 20 things everyone should know before you travel to Las Vegas, plus tips for maximizing your time once you arrive.

Have Plans

There is more than 2.7 million sq. ft. of equipment and technology to see and experts to network with. There is no way you will do everything you want to do by just coming across it as you walk.

Check out the exhibitor directory to see the more than 1,800 companies exhibiting and where they will be located at the show.

Book Hotel With Free Transportation to/From the Show

Many hotels on the Las Vegas Strip are designated pick-up and drop-off points for free shuttle transportation to and from the show. See the hotel shuttle route schedule on the ConExpo website for more info on the specific routes and pick-up/drop-off points of your hotel shuttle to plan how you will get to and from the show grounds.

Be aware that the route of your hotel shuttle drops you at a designated location at the show campus. Check ahead of which location your route will arrive at the show.

Understand Different Ways to Get to/From, Around the Show

There are many ways to get to and from the show, as well as even more ways to get around the 2.7 million sq. ft. of show. Getting to/from the show

• Hotel shuttles: Many hotels on the Las Vegas Strip are designated pick-up/drop-off points to get to/from the show. See the hotel shuttle route schedule on the ConExpo website for more info on the specific routes and pick-up/drop-off points of your hotel shuttle to plan how you will get to and from the show grounds. Be aware that the route of your hotel shuttle drops you at a designated located at the show campus. Check ahead of which location your route will arrive at the show.

• Ride-share and taxi services: There are designated pick-up/drop-off areas for rideshares and taxis. Be aware of these areas when you call for a ride-share. Please refer to the map on the ConExpo website for more info on where these spots are located.

• Monorail: The Las Vegas Monorail connects 3.5 miles of the Las Vegas Strip. There are several hotels that directly connect to the monorail but are also accessible for those not staying in those hotels: MGM Grand; Horseshoe; Flamingo; Caesar’s Palace; Harrah’s; The Linq. See the monorail map for more info.

The key stops that get you close to the

grounds with stops at: South Hall; Silver Lot; Diamond Lot

Look out for signage at these lots to be directed to the Tesla Loop.

• Monorail: The Las Vegas Monorail also can be used as a means to get from one side of the show grounds to another. There are three stops on the monorail’s route that can serve as pick-up/drop-off spots within the show grounds: Boingo Station at LVCC — Pick-up/drop-off in the Silver Lot; Closest stop to South Hall; Westgate Station — Pick-up/drop-off in Westgate; For registration + badge pick-up; SAHARA Station — Pick-up/drop-off in the SAHARA Hotel; Closest stop to the Festival Grounds

Please note that unless you specifically purchased a monorail pass during your registration, you must purchase a monorail pass at https://tix.lvmonorail.com/purchase.

Know When, Where to Pick Up Your Show Badge

Locations and times for show badge pick-

chair or motorized scooter to use at the show, we suggest reserving them prior to the show, which you can do by contacting ScootAround. Call 888/441-7575 or book online. These also can be rented at Blue Lot, Festival Grounds, and West Hall.

If You’re Bringing Children, Consider Bringing a Wagon Or Stroller

This may come as a surprise, but kids can be moody. It’s not a bad idea to bring a wagon or stroller for young kids.

Bring a Backpack

You will be picking up plenty of stuff and info. You’re going to want a place to keep it all.

Pack a Powerbank/External Battery Charger

Trust us, you’ll be using your phone to take plenty of photos and videos of the awesome equipment and innovations on display. Be sure to bring an additional phone charger so you’re not left disconnected.

Bring a Water Bottle

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! The Las Vegas heat can get wild, we recommend bringing a reusable bottle to keep you hydrated as you peruse the show.

Don’t Forget to Pack a Hat, Sunglasses, Sunscreen

show are as follows:

• Boingo Station at LVCC — Pickup/drop-off in the Silver Lot; Closest stop to South Hall

• Westgate Station — Pick-up/drop-off in Westgate; For registration + badge pick-up

• SAHARA Station — Pick-up/drop-off in the SAHARA Hotel; Closest stop to the Festival Grounds

Getting around the show grounds

• Express shuttles: There will be three routes of minibuses that will be continuously running throughout show hours connecting: Blue Lot to Festival Lot; Diamond Lot to Festival Lot; South Hall to Diamond Lot.

Transportation hubs will be set up at these three lots for pick-up & drop-off, as well as for answering any transportation questions.

• LVCC campus shuttle: Minibuses that offer a hop-on/hop-off service around the perimeter of the show grounds. These continuously running minibuses make stops at: South Hall; Grand Lobby; North Hall

• The LVCC Loop: The innovative underground transportation system provides rides in Tesla vehicles under the LVCC

up will be released closer to the show. Be sure you are pre-registered and have a valid photo I.D. to be able to pick up your badge.

Pack Comfortable Shoes

We cannot stress this one enough. There is a lot to see and so much walking involved, comfortable shoes are an essential for ConExpo-Con/AGG.

BONUS TIP: Make sure to break in those new shoes before wearing them to the show.

Reserve a Wheelchair or Electric Scooter If You’re Nervous About Walking

If you are interested in renting a wheel-

Again, plan for it to be hot and sunny in Las Vegas. Be prepared!

Leave Some Space in Your Luggage to Bring Things Back

Let us tell you, you will get so many freebies and swag! Plan to leave some extra space to bring them back home with you.

Visit New Manufacturers as Well

Don’t get hung up on just visiting “your manufacturers”. There are a ton of new technologies and companies to see as well!

Personalize Your Schedule

Organize your time at the show with My Show Planner. There’s no better place to keep track of education sessions you plan to attend, as well as booth appointments and products you’d like to see. Login and let My Show Planner be your personal assistant. see TIPS page 82

Volvo CE Presents Solutions for Changing Industry

Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) is building a one-of-a-kind booth experience at the ConExpo-Con/AGG 2023 tradeshow to help customers and other attendees be ready for an ever-changing business environment.

With a theme of “Change Starts Here. Be Ready For It,” the 55,000 sq.-ft. Volvo booth, F8926 in the Festival Grounds, will feature the company’s newest and most popular products, cutting-edge services and technology in a dedicated Solutions Hall, two areas where attendees can test drive electric excavators and wheel loaders, construction industry influencers like the “Gold Rush” cast, and more.

“We are committed to being a fossil free company by 2040, But words will not reach targets. Only moving from words to action will,” said Melker Jernberg, president of Volvo CE.

“There is no time to waste and that’s why we say ‘Change Starts Here’ because as we are demonstrating technology is developing fast and that’s where ‘Be Ready for It’ comes in. At ConExpo we want to help our customers be prepared for the change by showcasing our wide range of commercially available electric machines packaged with related charging infrastructure and other sustainable power alternatives.”

In addition to two large operating arenas in the booth for electric machines, Volvo CE also will showcase its electric lineup expansion with the 23-ton EC230 Electric mid-size excavator and DD25 Electric asphalt compactor, which was introduced at the Volvo pre-ConExpo press conference.

But a view into the future of the construction industry doesn’t stop with electric. Volvo CE also will display autonomous concepts, the world’s first hydrogen fuel cell articulated hauler, a remote-controlled unit and much more as the company works to help more customers reach their own efficiency and carbon reduction goals.

Also in the Volvo booth, F8926, will be the company’s

next series of excavators, with a model unveiled the morning the show opens, and the upgraded L350 wheel loader. Triedand-true Volvo excavators, wheel loaders, haulers and other products also will be on display with product experts ready to answer attendees’ questions.

Other Volvo Group companies also will be in the booth, including a truck from Volvo Trucks, engines from Volvo Penta and representatives from Volvo Financial Services.

More Than Iron

Inside the Solutions Hall, attendees will be able to speak to experts about services and technology that can be tailored to the way they do business to grow now and well into the future. Solution offerings include:

• Site solutions that give customers tailored recommendations for their fleet — regardless of brand — to optimize site

setup and reduce the risk of accidents.

• Business solutions to help customers streamline transactions, better control costs and maximize their uptime potential so they can stay focused on their core business.

• Financial solutions including valuable bundles and unique offers that help customers better manage cash flow during seasonal slowdowns.

• ActiveCare Direct, Volvo’s one-of-a-kind telematics machine monitoring and reporting service, that provides proactive fleet intelligence to save customers time and money on diagnosing machine issues.

Attendees also can meet members of Discovery Channel’s “Gold Rush” cast Tuesday through Friday in the Volvo booth, as well as other popular construction industry influencers during a meet-and-greet Wednesday afternoon.

They also can get an up-close look at a real FIA World Rallycross electric race car. As the official track building partner of the FIA World Rallycross Championship, Volvo CE continues to drive industry transformation toward sustainable power both on and off the track.

For those unable to attend ConExpo 2023 in person or who want exclusive content, Volvo CE also is hosting a virtual experience that brings the show to homes and offices around the world. Those interested in watching new product launches, experiencing machine walkarounds, interacting with Volvo experts and more can register now for this exclusive online event to be a part of the show.

“Whether someone joins us in Las Vegas or virtually, we have a great show planned for them with a mix of machines and services, hands-on opportunities and educational sessions — and I’m confident it will be both enlightening and fun,” said Stephen Roy, president, Region North America at Volvo CE. 

JCB’s Hydrogen Technology Set for International Debut

JCB is set to showcase its super-efficient hydrogen combustion technology on the international stage for the first time ever with a debut in North America.

The wraps will come off JCB’s brand new hydrogen combustion engine — the company’s zero-carbon emissions solution for construction and agricultural equipment—at the ConExpo 2023 show in Las Vegas as part of the International Fluid Power Exposition (IFPE) at Booth S83751 in South Hall 3.

JCB Chairman Lord Bamford is leading the project to develop JCB’s hydrogen technology.

“The JCB engineering team has made enormous strides in a short space of time to develop a hydrogen internal combustion engine and it already powers a JCB prototype backhoe loader and a Loadall telescopic hander. As the first construction equipment company to develop a fully working combustion engine fueled by hydrogen, I’m delighted we are now able to present this technology on the international stage,” Bamford said.

Leading the way in environmental, social

and governance (ESG) for the construction equipment sector, JCB has been responsible for a series of industry innovations on its “Road to Zero.”

JCB developed the world’s first batteryelectric mini excavator and has been at the forefront of electric technology development to meet customers’ demands for zero-carbon products with its E-TECH range. Today, JCB has the largest electric line-up available in the construction industry and the company’s expertise in this sector also will be on show at the exhibition.

JCB’s commitment to reducing emissions goes back almost 25 years and its latest diesel engines have already delivered a 97 percent reduction in NOx emissions since 1999 and a 98 percent reduction in particulates. Today, JCB’s diesel-powered machines also emit 50 percent less CO2 compared with those manufactured in 2010. JCB’s clean diesel engine technology also will be showcased on the stand in Las Vegas. From Road Show to Expo

AEM Readies to Chart New Records, Unveil New Technologies at ConExpo-Con/AGG 2023

In December 2022, organizers announced the ConExpoCon/AGG trade show had sold all available exhibit space for 2023. After the coronavirus pandemic forced the 2020 show to close a day early, event organizers at the Associated Equipment Manufacturers (AEM) expect this year’s show, set for March 14 to 18, 2023, to be the biggest in ConExpo’s 100-plus year history.

The Road Show, which first opened in 1909, was a processor of today’s largest construction trade show in North America.

In a SANY America historical perspective, it was described it as “a simple event held at a fairground in Columbus, Ohio.”

The National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association said this first show began as a road show with 40 exhibitors showing off new equipment that “could do the work of 15 horsedrawn units.”

Total square footage of the early event was the equivalent of a single exhibitor’s space in Las Vegas these days, but it drew thousands.

Today’s shows draw more than 130,000 attendees from around the world who gather every three years.

Back then, event organizers were proud to host thousands of potential equipment buyers. Construction historians at AEM say some 40 different equipment manufacturers showcased their newest models and technology at that first gathering.

“It was one of the most remarkable and exciting displays of equipment to come to prominence in the West,” said the

association.

As it grew in interest, the Road Show was held every year or so until it was put on hold during World War II.

After WWII, the show was renamed the Construction Equipment Exposition and Road Show.

The “ConExpo” moniker was dubbed in 1969; the first ConExpo standalone show as held in 1993.

The Concrete and Aggregates Show convened for the first time in 1928 to highlight concrete and aggregates in road

building and construction applications.

The first show was held in Detroit in 1928, and like ConExpo, continued to grow and evolve.

Con/AGG became “a major event with the boom in construction that followed World War II,” reports SANY America.

Con/AGG held its first independent event in 1994, drawing just as impressive a following as ConExpo.

From humble beginnings as the Road Show held in an area the equivalent of one manufacturer’s exhibit space today, ConExpo-Con/AGG launched into the largest construction trade show in North America. In 2023, getting around to see equipment will be a breeze shuttling between exhibit halls in Tesla vehicles in a free underground transportation system.

New 300|AT Reimagines All-Terrain Platform at Link-Belt

Link-Belt Cranes has announced its allnew 300-ton 300|AT all-terrain crane will debut at ConExpo-Con/AGG ‘23 in Las Vegas (March 14 to 18, 2023).

Following valuable voice of the customer data collection as well as engineering and manufacturing research, Link-Belt Cranes is debuting an entirely new crane platform with the 300|AT.

“We spoke extensively with our customer base and feel like we have delivered. They want a crane that travels down the road efficiently, goes together on a job site quickly, has a strong chart, and is reliable,” said Andrew Soper, product manager telescopic truck and all-terrain cranes.

The 300|AT is a five axle all-terrain crane built with transportability in mind meeting all North American transportation requirements. Its single engine platform is HVO fuel ready and EPA On-Highway and CARB On-Road compliant.

“This crane represents Link-Belt’s longterm AT investment, which goes back to 2009 with construction of our own formed boom bay and subsequent ATC-3275 introduction,” said Soper.

Lifting

The 300|AT is well equipped with a seven section 46 to 238 ft. pin and latch greaseless formed boom and optional two-piece 42 to 71

ft. on-board hydraulically offset fly and two 25 ft. lattice extensions. Maximum attachment will achieve a tip height of 369 ft. and an efficient modular counterweight configuration adds to the 300|AT’s versatility.

Maximum counterweight is 162,000 lbs. with four overflow truckloads, and for improved mobility and efficiency for a variety of jobsite scenarios the 300|AT can be set up with two overflow loads and 74,000 lbs. of counterweight.

Another improvement to the 300|AT’s mobility is the option of transporting the 300|AT with its upper 8,000 lbs. counterweight tray and still stay below 160,000 lbs. gross vehicle weight [23,000 lbs. per axle].

The 8 ft. heavy lift fly provides robust capacities and line separation for two load line operation in applications like precast wall panels. Time tested and proven features such as greaseless sheaves and Teflon wear pads cut maintenance and service costs. Additional standard boom features include wireless wind speed indicator, single-hand operation rope guard, and three work lights on the boom base section.

The 300|AT also will feature SmartFly. Link-Belt’s simple, intuitive SmartFly system ensures proper fly erection and stowage sequence while minimizing work at height. Link-Belt fly erection procedures have been embraced in the market on most all of Link-

Belt’s telescopic product line for their ease of assembly and one person operation, according to the manufacturer.

Features

A single 554 hp Cummins X15 diesel engine with ZF Traxon automated manual transmission delivers best-in-class power on the 300|AT. The transmission features improved shifting performance and offers integrated intarder braking with paddle shift controls for easy stop-and-go at highway speeds. The 300|AT also features an innovative new power transmission system for efficiently powering upper hydraulic functions. It offers a 24 volt electrical system with an optimized, modern CANBUS communications.

Customers will recognize the purpose-built two-person carrier cab from the 175|AT on the new 300|AT. The interior features amenities such as automatic climate control, blue tooth radio, cell phone charging and LED lighting. An air ride seat with lumbar support provides optimum comfort while driving.

Operator’s Cab

The operator’s cab is a legacy success story, tailored for all-terrain operations. Pulse 2.0 with its 10 in. touch display is at the heart of this crane with features and controls that are intuitive, adaptable and in easy arm’s reach. The view from the seat is unimpeded in any kind of weather with large sweeping

wipers in the front and top, and strategicallyplaced vents for quick defrost.

Another new feature to Link-Belt’s all-terrain lineup is the improved flexibility of VCALC, an infinitely variable outrigger positioning that allows for setup in tight jobsite conditions where outriggers require being unevenly extended (0, 40, 70 and 100 percent extension). All capacities are printed in crane rating manual and automatic swing function kick-out works to maintain forward and backward stability.

Standard carrier features that operators are accustomed to include: four points of access to the flat carrier deck, a comprehensive camera “Site Vision” package, and the premiere lighting package on the market for nighttime operations.

Other standout features of the 300|AT include:

• Wireless rigging remote (carrier function, upper function, fly erection)

• Tire pressure and temperature monitoring system

• SmartStack counterweight detection system

• Tie offs at all dedicated anchor points for multiple work positions

• Flat carrier deck

Mazio Attachments to Display Innovative Attachments

Mazio will have its experts on hand in the West Hall, at booth #W43211, during ConExpo-Con/AGG, March 14 to 18, 2023, in Las Vegas. Visitors will learn how Mazio’s attachments will help them save time and money in the quarry and on the job site.

Mazio’s newest innovation for 2023 is the tilt-rotator for excavators. Tilt-rotators have seen great interest in Europe, and they are growing in popularity within the United States.

These supplemental attachments work with excavator tools, such as grapples, buckets, or shears, to provide more versatility and precision. They not only rotate 360 degrees, but they also tilt side-to-side by up to 55 degrees. This ability reduces the need for the operator to move the excavator while performing tasks — increasing productivity and efficiency.

The Mazio tilt-rotator features a hydraulic quick coupler that allows the operator to remain in the cab while changing tools. It enjoys maintenance-free operation, with no grease points and no cylinders. It allows access to narrow spaces and on urban projects with large or small equipment.

In addition to the tilt-rotator, the Mazio booth will feature its complete line of demo-

lition tools; hydraulic breakers; and wear tips for grinders, breakers, shears, crushers, pulverizers and processors.

Mazio’s experts work in tandem with its dealers to provide producers and contractors with guidance on ways to increase their productivity and profits, helping them to ensure

success.

Mazio Attachments LLC is an Italian manufacturer of specialized attachments for the construction, demolition, recycling, mining, aggregates, excavation, scrap and forestry industries. With engineering and manufacturing facilities located in the

United States, Italy and Colombia, Mazio designs its distinctive purple attachments to work with all makes and sizes of carrier machine, from hydraulic excavators, skid steer loaders, and backhoes to wheel loaders, tele-handlers, and more.

Mazio attachments are available through a growing dealer network or direct, depending on location. The company offers immediate delivery for spare parts and service, and field training for operators.

Wacker Neuson Premieres New Products at ConExpo 2023

Wacker Neuson is inviting attendees of ConExpo-Con/AGG 2023 to visit Booth W43501 to preview a variety of new products being introduced by the equipment manufacturer. The booth’s theme “All it takes for the challenges you face,” celebrates the company’s dedication to helping contractors meet their daily challenges on the job site.

A central focus of Wacker Neuson’s booth is a 1.7-ton battery-powered excavator, the EZ17e.

“This zero-emission excavator has been a success in the European market and will launch in North America in late 2023 or early 2024,” explained Gert Reichetseder, president and CEO, Wacker Neuson Americas.

“This machine will provide a solution for contractors and rental houses looking for a quiet, zeroemission excavator to expand their businesses into new applications, while meeting environmental regulations,” Reichetseder added.

In addition to the EZ17e, Wacker Neuson will further highlight its zero-emission portfolio for battery-powered compaction and concrete consolidation equipment in the “Meet the Future” area of the booth. This includes the debut of the industry’s first battery-powered reversible plate with direct drive, the APU3050e.

All of Wacker Neuson’s battery-powered plates and rammer, as well as its concrete vibrator are powered by the Battery One battery and charger

system. This new vendor-agnostic brand is a single solution, making the use of zero-emission construction equipment on the job site more practical, according to the manufacturer.

Other excavators to be showcased will include Wacker Neuson’s all new EZ26, a 2.6-ton zero tail excavator and the 5.8-ton ET58 tracked excavator. Both of these machines offer contractors all the newest innovations for comfort, performance and efficiency.

Attendees also won’t want to miss Wacker Neuson’s new additions to the utility track loader family.

“The SM60 and SM120 will be premiered at the show and are great complements to the very successful SM100 mini track loader that was introduced in 2021,” said Reichetseder.

These versatile, stand-on utility track loaders are designed for operator comfort, ease of operation and designed to reduce maintenance costs and total cost of ownership.

Additionally, the newest compact track loader from Wacker Neuson, the ST27 will be unveiled to contractors. This addition to the loader line is the smallest model in the company’s CTL line-up and promotes enhanced visibility and productivity.

“We look forward to meeting with contractors and dealers at the show to share our new products plus the original job site mainstays Wacker Neuson is known for,” Reichetseder said. 
