Case Snow Management relies on Hyundai HL740-9 and HL770-9 wheel loaders to handle the snowy New England winters.

Case Snow Management Takes on New England Winters With Hyundai In a region that annually receives at least 50 in. of snow and holds records for some of the biggest storms of all time, snow removal is undoubtedly an expansive undertaking. For businesses like Case Snow Management, it’s not only a challenge, but a passion that runs deep. The Massachusettsbased exterior maintenance service provider has been offering a wide array of snow and ice services to customers in the New England area since 2009, with the goal of becoming the best in the industry. Four years later, with the help of an expert team and a fleet of Hyundai wheel loaders, the company has done just that. A business that focuses solely on snow, Case Snow Management understands the dedication and commitment it takes to handle the worst New England winters. Owner, Jason Case, takes this responsibility very seriously, which is why he has built his company on a single service to achieve the highest level of field performance and efficiency. “While some may think snow removal may only be a seasonal job, our work never stops regardless of the season,” said Case. “When we’re not plowing, hauling and de-icing our clients’ properties, we’re attending conferences, evaluat-

ing new technologies and equipment and consulting with our customers to make the next season’s snow removal as smooth as possible.” When it does snow in the New England area, the accumulations can be staggering, so Case Snow Management relies heavily on its equipment to be able to tackle even the most massive snowfalls. In 2010, with a long list of customers and a rapidly growing business, Case began to see a need for more equipment to keep up with the numerous large commercial properties of his clientele. It was then he began evaluating many different equipment brands, comparing features and pricing and exploring all options. After a visit to Lorusso Heavy Equipment in Walpole, Mass., and meeting with salesman Gerry Carney, Case’s attention soon turned to Hyundai. “Initially, what caught my eye with the Hyundai loaders were the many features they have to offer,” said Case. “Our operators are in these machines 12 to 15 hours at a time depending on the storm, so comfort is essential. With heated seats, optimum exterior lighting and back up cameras as see SNOW page 4

standard equipment, the Hyundai loaders are hard to beat.” In addition to the long list of standard features, Case also found the Hyundai machines to be the most competitively priced — a determining factor for the business owner. After much consideration, Case knew the Hyundai loaders were exactly what he was looking for and purchased five HL740-9 loaders and one HL770-9. Hyundai’s HL740-9 wheel loader is equipped with a 143 hp (107 kW), fuel efficient, Tier III, Cummins QSB6.7 engine. The machine has an operating weight of 26,460 lbs. (12,002 kg), 3.0 cu. yd. (2.3 cu m) bucket capacity and a bucket breakout force of 24,800 lbs. The HL770-9 wheel loader is equipped with a 277 hp, (206.4 kW) turbo-charged, Tier III QSL engine. It has an operating weight of 50,930 lbs. (23,101 kg), a 5.5 cu. yd. (4.2 cu m) bucket capacity and a 47,930 lb. bucket breakout force. Since the addition of the Hyundai loaders, Case Snow Management has been utilizing the machines non-stop as soon as the snow begins to fall. During the blizzard of February 2013, one of the top five snow storms of all time in the New England area, snow accumulated at the rate of 3 to 4 in. per hour accompanied by 74 mph winds and snow drifts of 6 to 7 ft. in many areas. “This particular storm, Nemo, was of hurricane stature and one we will likely never forget,” said Case. “Historic

trucks could barely keep up. When snow is falling that fast and hard, our plows can only do so much. We rely heavily on our Hyundai loaders simply because they provide more power and can get the job done more efficiently.” Case Snow Management deployed its Hyundai loaders to various properties during this storm, one of which included the Emerald Square mall in North Attleboro. The company is contracted by the mall for all of its snow removal services. Case and his team had the challenging task of removing multiple feet of snow from the mall’s parking lot to make it accessible to traffic as quickly as possible. To complete this task, Case Snow Management utilized the HL740-9 and HL7709 Hyundai loaders, attached with snow pushers to move the enormous amounts of snow into piles. Because of the excessive amounts of snowfall during this storm and the lack of space to move it to, operators followed with the Hyundai loaders, equipped with buckets, to load the snow into dump trucks to be hauled away. “Our Hyundai loaders feature a quick coupler system which is ideal when we need to use more than one attachment at a property,” said Case. “We can start out with a snow pusher and if at any point if we need to change to a bucket, it’s fast and simple. We can’t afford to lose any time when snow is coming down in inches by the hour and the Hyundai loaders offer the efficiency we need.” In addition to the quick coupler system, Case also finds Hyundai’s Hi-mate Remote Management System to be a great tool. When equipment is dispersed to various different job sites, Case uses the GPS tracking system to find out where each piece of equipment is located at any given time. Hi-mate also provides Case with vital service and diagnostic information from any computer with internet access and has the ability to track fuel levels and set work boundaries and also can send users alerts when these limits are reached. According to Case, after the blizzard of 2013 was over and Case Snow Management saw first-hand how well the Hyundai loaders handled the snow, Case and his team knew the machines would be a critical element to the company for years to come. It also was this storm and the many others that followed, that lead Case to purchase five more HL7409 wheel loaders. “The HL740-9s and HL770-9 loaders have been a great addition to our fleet,” said Case. “They’re fuel efficient, userfriendly, dependable and most importantly provide us with the flawless execution that we need in this business. We will definitely be looking into the possibility of adding even more in the future.” Case Snow Management is full-service exterior maintenance service provider offering a wide array of services to the New England area, including plowing, hauling, salting and de-icing. Recognized as a “Top 25 Snow Contractor” by Snow Business magazine, Case Snow Management is one of New England’s finest snow removal companies.
