2023 Women Who Build Summit

Wednesday & Thursday, April 26-27, 2023

Confident, Powerful, Fearless

The Event

The Experience

Who We Are

The Construction Institute is a leading network and a neutral forum for exchanging new ideas, knowledge, and opportunities while creating stronger collaborative relationships among industry stakeholders. Our members are the creators and caretakers of the built environment. They include a broad and multidisciplinary range of industry professionals - owners and facility managers, architects and engineers, contractors and subcontractors, project managers, consultants, technologists, manufacturers and distributors, governmental agencies, lawyers, accountants, and many other support services.

What We Do

The Institute is known for high quality programs, professional education, and meaningful opportunities for connecting with other dedicated industry professionals.

The Women Who Build Summit celebrates an inspiring day of educational presentations, motivational stories, empowering interactions, and networking opportunities. The event brings together women and men to celebrate, to explore, to connect, to share, and to inspire the innovators and glass-ceiling breakers of tomorrow.

June Millington

Female Guitarist & Trailblazer

This year’s theme “Confident, Powerful, Fearless,” is exemplified by our Keynote Speaker, June Millington, co-founder of the first all-female rock band in the country. The title of her talk, “How to Become an Agent of Change While Rocking and Rollin’ it,” says it all.

This year’s high-energy conference kicks off on Wednesday with an Architectural Tour of UMass’ award-winning mass timber building, followed by an intimate reception. Thursday’s all-day program features two lively panel discussions on key issues – sustainability and technology - and breakout sessions that will take a deep dive on topics ranging from supply chain issues, to living buildings, managing troubled projects, to overcoming the inevitable personal challenges of life.

Following the keynote, the group will engage in a focused workshop that applies neuroscience-based questioning techniques to foster collaboration and empowerment, building on the keynote’s inspiring message.

How to Become an Agent of Change While Rocking and Rollin’ It

Pioneer for women in Rock, guitarist singer-songwriter/record producer June Millington was born to a mixed-race couple just after WWII. She and her sister Jean, outsiders from birth, managed to succeed in forming the first all-girl band to be signed to a major record label (Warners), release entire albums, tour internationally and serve notice that women could rock as well and as hard as men. Millington will share the lessons learned and the tools gathered during her lifelong journey.

Close Remarks & Door Prize Drawing

Questions are a valuable – and underutilized – tool to help leaders at all levels think and communicate more clearly and effectively. Neuroscience teaches us that open-ended questions engage parts of our brain that help us think more effectively. This interactive workshop engages attendees in the questioning and answer process, building self-confidence and leadership awareness.
