Standard School Bus Stop Laws
Learn and follow the school bus laws for motorists in Colorado. Laws exist to protect children getting on and off the bus AND to protect you from a tragedy. Check with your school transportation office or police department for more information on our state's laws. Here are a few standard rules: Motorists coming to a school bus from either direction must stop when the bus displays ashing red warning lights and extends the stop signal arm. These signals show that children are getting on or off the school bus. Vehicles may not pass until the ashing red lights and signals are turned off. Drivers traveling in the same direction as the bus are always required to stop. Never pass on the right side of the bus, where children enter or exit. This is illegal and can have tragic results. Violation of these laws can result in a citation and fine. For further information contact the Frederick-Firestone Fire Protection District, 303-833-2742 or visit us at www.fffd.us.

Since the dramatic shift to a party rental business now involves snapping photos and making memories that do last a life time. interact, and “loosen-up for the party. While waiting, other guests get to watch all the fun while it’s happening. This booth captures moments the professional photographer would never get. A friend and wedding planner in California told Darren of the demand for portable photo booths for weddings. He made the purchase and started the photography over a year ago. Darren then moved to Colorado from California earlier in the year. The move made it possible for him to work with his family in this new business. Plus, Darren is now able to enjoy many extracurricular activities: skiing, hiking, fishing, hockey, and football. Many of his recreational activities utilize his booth. Red Rocks Photo Booth is perfect for many situations including corporate events, fundraisers, and birthday parties. The digital imaging, print quality, and speed of the booth are superior to anything on the market. Photo strips are cut and printed within 15 seconds. Each photo strip is custom designed with the event information or date. There are different rental packages available and Darren invites you “like his Facebook page at www.facebook.com/redrocksphotobooth and see for yourself, how much the guests enjoy the photo booth. Every photo booth rental package includes:

What’s On My Mind Kelly Martindale, Publisher
Aching Abyss of the Heart
Helplessness is never so obvious as when you watch your house burn to the ground or when you cannot shut off the sounds of gun shots or when you have to make the decision to stop the beating heart of a loved one. I’ve not lost my home to fire or been shot at but I have had to tell the doctor to let my daughter go‌I carried her in my womb, I gave birth to her, I raised her for nearly ten years. It was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do. The next hardest was being in Colorado while my son died in Michigan. These types of experience impress upon you how vulnerable you are in this world. You might ask, “Why did this have to happen?â€? To be honest, there is nobody who can answer that question. The feeling of being helpless and the knowledge that life is out of control are experiences that can wound us deeply. Is it possible to control anything? I think control is an illusion, especially when it concerns the fragility of life. Yes, we can do many things to aid our safe keeping. We can teach our children to stay away from strangers but a loved one may still abuse them. We can put security systems in our homes but thieves can still break in. We can exercise five days a week and never eat processed foods but cancer can still ravage our body. We cannot control what happens in life. Just this week, my granddaughter’s friend lost her mommy‌my neighbor lost her daughter. They weren’t warned or prepared for this trauma. The sorrow in their hearts will permeate that household for years to come. There will remain questions that can never be answered. They will work to find a new normal and eventually the empty chair at the table will not seem so gigantic. I know this from my own experience. I also know laughter will come again, when they least expect it. But all of this takes time. Just like rebuilding a home from the ground up; purchasing new furnishings, clothes and towels, and making new memories and taking new photos. It all takes time. It also takes patience. Why? Because many people are affected by tragedy. And each person works through the experience in their own way and in their own time. One person can feel joy on a day that the other is filled with sorrow and that can cause strife, anger and bitterness. This can lead to each person hiding how they really feel which aggravates the healing process for all concerned.

Planning is bringing the future into the present so that you can do something about it now. — Alan Lakein
As I write this, as you read this, a heaviness pervades and the question persists, “Why?â€? Sadly, I don’t understand any better today than I did 5, 10 or 15 years ago. Yes, I lived through it and I’ve been able to help a few other people because of my experiences but that doesn’t mean I “get it.â€? I know I haven’t completely healed and probably never will. Yes, I have worked through a lot of the grief but I’m not “over it.â€? I haven’t moved on with my life because “my lifeâ€? ceased to exist August 2, 1990. Now I am in a new life, one that was very difficult to figure out and remains challenging to sustain. But somewhere along the line, I must have quit asking why and started asking, “What now?â€? “What do I do with this?â€? “Where do I start?â€? “Where do I go from here?â€? And because of family, friends and neighbors, I’ve been encouraged and helped to keep my chin up and stay hopeful. Those same friends are already reaching out to our neighbor. We are praying for this family, meals are being prepared‌love and hugs are offered. That family knows they are not alone in their suffering because friends are reaching out to them. My household, our neighborhood and our state has suffered tremendous loss. I see people reaching out to the hurting and striving to do things that will lighten their burden. I am grateful to live in America, in Colorado and in Frederick. I am blessed to be surrounded by people with good and compassionate hearts; people who strive to serve, comfort and care for others, just as Jesus did.

The Carbon Valley Consumer Report—Bringing Residents Information About Area Businesses
Letter to the Editor: “YOU GET WHAT YOU GIVE”
School in Denver and upon completion plans to return to Salud in and work in our community. Chandler is an exceptional young man. Recently I was talking with a parent who has a son in Frederick High School and was told that, “If there was another student whom I would like my son to model his life after, it would Chandler.” Chandler graduated from Frederick High School this year in the upper part of his class. When he graduated he had already earned his certification as an EMT, a certified driver of emergency vehicles, Hazmat certified and works as a volunteer firefighter with 500 hours of community service. He has enrolled in UNC and will graduate with a degree in Fire Science and invest his life and career serving the Carbon Valley. These are just three of many students who have excelled because citizens cared enough about our youth to provide funding for academic excellence. My wife and I are both retired and in our 70’s. Even with a fixed income we plan to support the Mill Levy Override this November. Although it will not benefit our children, it will benefit all children who go to school in the SVVSD where we live. It is not a hard choice for us to invest in the future of our community. After all, what goes around comes around and we get back tomorrow what we give today. Voting ‘yes’ for the Mill Levy Override will be a vote for continued academic excellence in the SVVSD. I urge you to do just that. George E Heath, Firestone
There is a song being downloaded by teens all over the country called: “You Get What You Give.” Although I don’t care for the lyrics, it does remind me of the old adage, “You Get What You Pay For.” As I have more birthdays (I’ve already had 72) I see this old adage take on a life of its own. Another reminder is the old idiom, “The proof of the pudding is in the eating” which simply means something needs to be experienced to prove how good it is. With this in mind, let me introduce you to three young adults who have benefited from our Mill Levy in the St Vrain Valley School District. Tyler was a struggling special needs middle school student when I first met him. He and his single mom had moved to the Carbon Valley from a neighboring school district hoping for a fresh start in life. Tyler was diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome and faced a multitude of challenges. He had not been given the tools needed to know how to study and was floundering in his school work. Those who knew him didn’t have much hope that he would be successful in completing his studies. Then, Tyler enrolled in Frederick High School. The staff viewed him as a ‘work in progress’ who possessed great potential. With their patience and tutelage he began to learn how to study, how to interact with his peers and teachers, and has become a better than average B+ student without using the modified learning program. Before school ended this spring he searched for and found employment on his own. He recently interviewed for another part-time job and was the first choice of this employer who said he interviewed “very well.” Tyler will go to Community College upon graduation as an experienced Internet Gibbs & Associates, PLLC Technology student. Not bad for a young man 10079 Belmont Street who many thought would never amount to much. Firestone, CO 80504 Myra is a dental assistant at Salud Medical Center in Frederick. When I spoke with her she told me she was a floundering student with no sense of direction in her junior year of high school. The staff at Frederick High School Denyse Gibbs, CPA introduced her to the Career Development Center. Owner She discovered the dental hygienist program and 303-908-6240 found her niche and is now completing her course work at Front Range Community College. She denysegibbscpa@gmail.com has already enrolled in Dental Hygiene

In the long run, we shape our lives, and we shape ourselves. The process never ends until we die. And the choices we make are ultimately our own responsibility. Eleanor Roosevelt
Area Mayor’s Report—For those of us who do not attend meetings School is just around the corner and I ask that you be very cautious and watch out for the children on their way to meet the new teachers and fellow students. Also, around the schools the speed limit is “very slow” just so you and the children crossing the street are not surprised by each other. Please enjoy the rest of your Summer and also keep in your prayers the men and women protecting our freedom, no matter where they are stationed.
As I write this article we have been going through a string of triple digit heat days which for most Richard Macomber of us are terribly uncomfortable. That being said, these kinds of heat waves can be deadly to the elderly and those suffering illnesses. You are all important to us, so if you know of someone that does not have any way to cool themselves such as with a fan, please let town hall know and we will address the problem immediately. I do not want to see the Town of Mead residents as a statistic because we were not aware of someone suffering unmercifully. If you haven’t noticed Town Hall is sporting a new face. I would like to give a very big welcome to our new Town Clerk Linda Blackston. Linda comes to us with some excellent credentials and is on a very steep curve learning all about Mead. If you get the chance, please stop by and meet her. And speaking of newness, we have a new business that has come to Main Street by the name of Richman Glass. This new business does both commercial and residential glass replacement. When that childs softball comes through the window, just give Richman a call and I am positive they can take care of it. By the way this is business license number 195 in the town and it is wonderful to see so many entrepreneurs. Yes, we are still in construction season and I hope you like the enhancements we have made to the downtown area. While the surface looks great, it also masks the storm drainage that we added to assure we are not flooding our homes and businesses. With the new enlarged sidewalks the Town Board has approved the capability for sidewalk seating in conjunction with the restaurants. Hopefully the weather will cooperate so we can all enjoy that amenity. We will shortly be reworking the roads in the Vale View filing 2 before the Summer is over. In conjunction with the County we are also paving WCR 28 between Third Street (south of Highway 66) and WCR 9.5. These last two projects will not cost the Mead taxpayers. Both projects are being funded by other sources. I hope you have noticed our new welcome signs. Yours truly was tired of answering the question when I was in neighboring Towns of where Mead was. These signs were inexpensive and does brand where we live for all the world to know. Ironically from that branding we have had an inquiry from a business that is studying our area. Hopefully they will think this is a great place as much as we do. While we have been fortunate that we have not experienced the devastating forest fires we must all be cognizant of what we might need to take with us in case of an evacuation. There are several directives that offer suggestions as to what you might need to take with you. One of the things that I have learned recently is there are two methods of alerts that we as residents might receive. The first is one that is sent out by the National Weather Service in the form of a text message to cell phones purchased in the last two years. It doesn’t matter where in the United States you are, if you are in the polygon that is covered by your cell phone (say in Illinois) you will receive the severe weather alert for that area. The second method of alert is through Weld County. You have to sign up for it at www.weldcounty.gov and it will cover both your home phone as well as cell phone. This is a great service and will warn you of severe weather, police actions, or other situations where you would need to take protective action. While it is there to assist us, let’s hope and pray that they do not have send out any messages to us. The future of the Town of Mead is shaped by the input from its constituents and those serving on the volunteer committees. If you would like to participate in the shaping of our Town’s future we are still in need of participants on the Parks and Recreation committee, Downtown Revitalization, Open Space and the Planning Commission. It is a simple one page application and you will meet some great people that are also trying to make a contribution to the Town.

The Carbon Valley Music Festival presented by the City of Dacono will take place on Saturday, August 4 at Centennial Field, next to Charles Sigman the big blue water tower and we have an amazing lineup to announce. The parade begins at 11:00a and music begins at noon. The headliner this year is the Lionel Young Band, 2011 winner of the International Blues Challenge. Also confirmed are Three Twins Broadband (feat. John Magnie & Steve Amedee of the Subdudes), Quemando, Katie Glassmann (2 time Colorado state fiddle champion / 6 time national fiddle champion), Brad & The Fat Cats (WINNER 2011 Colorado Blues Society Youth Competition) and more. The beer garden this year will include Colorado craft distilleries offering tastings of their products. Also new this year is a special area for kids at ClemDuFour park. For more information, visit the City’s web site: www.cityofdacono. com and be sure to visit the Facebook page for the Festival and don’t forget to “Like” us at: www.facebook.com/CarbonValleyMusicFestival The Carbon Valley Veterans Memorial Park had a booth at the 4th at Firestone and displayed the two design examples for the Park. The final design will be on display at a booth at the Carbon Valley Music Festival in Dacono on Saturday, August 4. Be sure to stop by and take a look. We also need members for our other committees (fundraising, marketing, outreach, etc.). Please contact Barb Goettsch (BarbGoettsch@ CarbonValleyRotary.org) if you are interested in helping. Regular monthly meetings of the entire group are held on the third Tuesday of each month at 6:00p. The location changes depending on the activities going on during the meeting. We welcome your participation. Dacono’s 2nd entry monument sign, which is located near the East Frontage Rd. and Summit Blvd. (WCR 8), is now complete. Low water landscaping and grass seed still needs to be installed, but the sign looks great. Similar to the one at Colorado Blvd. & SH 52, this sign will be seen by thousands of visitors every weekend that go to Colorado National Speedway, Blitz Paintball and IMI Motorsports… part of Dacono’s Extreme Sports businesses. Future monument signs will also be similar looking, but will vary depending on exact location and surroundings. Our Extreme Sports marketing efforts are now underway with print advertising, a web site…DaconoSuperfecta.com…and soon brochures around the region with an incredible Grand Prize giveaway for visiting Dacono businesses. CHARLES SIGMAN, MAYOR OF DACONO "Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both." Benjamin Franklin
As the mayor of one of Colorado's fastest growing communities, I know Chad Auer firsthand the challenges related to sustainability. Navigating the waters of economic development, regional master planning and resource stewardship is complex and often riddled with peril. Too often, leaders are blown off course by disingenuous activists, amplified emotions and deceitful propaganda. Success requires broad vision, discernment and collaboration. Water storage, or lack thereof, is one of the most important issues facing Colorado. Numerous reports, most notably those by the Statewide Water Supply Initiative (SWSI), underscore the fact that Colorado is in dire need of expanded storage facilities. By 2050, Colorado's population is projected to double, agricultural demands will increase and energy demands will grow. Experts tell us that this increased demand will require between 600,000 and 1 million more acre-feet of water per year. Expanding Colorado's water storage capacity simply is not optional, it is imperative. In an effort to meet this challenge, communities across the Northern Front Cange of Colorado are collaborating on a solution. The Northern Integrated Supply Project (NISP) is an initiative that will significantly add to the state’s water storage capacity. By building an environmentally sound reservoir, NISP will supply water to what is one of the fastest growing regions in Colorado. Unlike other projects, NISP does not place a dam on the main river. In fact, the reservoir is miles off stream and will be filled by diverting water from the Poudre River only during peak flows, thereby preserving the Poudre. Additionally, the NISP project will protect our states agricultural economy by reducing the push for cities and towns to purchase farmers water rights - a devastating practice known as 'buy and dry'. Agriculture is critical to a thriving Colorado and we need to do what it takes to support local producers. Other important features of the NISP project include the fact that Colorado's water will be used here, rather than flow unused out of state. The project is a regional solution, which is far better economically and environmentally than numerous individual projects. Additionally, the reservoir will provide an economic boon by attracting anglers, boaters and other recreationalists to the region. Just as with building Denver International Airport, the Colorado Big Thompson project or the Horsetooth Reservoir, NISP has its naysayers. Armed with a knack for clever deception, an 'occupy NISP' group aspires to thwart the project. Their obstructionist tactics cost tax payers millions of dollars and threaten to deprive Colorado of its future. Thankfully, the vast majority of Coloradans have seen through the smoke and realize that NISP is another addition to a long list of great advancements in our state's history. NISP participants understand that expanding water storage is just one element of the long term solution. Water conservation and responsible usage work hand in hand with large scale storage projects. To that end, participating communities, through concentrated conservation initiatives, have reduced consumption by nearly one third. Further, Firestone was among the first communities in the state to enact a drought mitigation plan which further demonstrates our commitment to responsible resource management. In addition to my role as mayor, I have the honor of working with public school leaders around our state. We all know that Colorado's schools are full of children who will one day pursue their version of the American dream. By building NISP, we give them a chance to do so right here in Colorado. I urge you to join us in providing water for people, protecting our farms and supporting Colorado's future.

Think, Study, Vote!
2012 Presidential Elections:
Plato said, "One of the penalties of not participating in politics is that you will be governed by your inferiors." Concerning the Presidential election, experts say that only about six percent of Americans are undecided. So the next one hundred days of campaigning will be about swaying a relatively small group of voters. But many more than this six percent have strong opinions and still won’t participate. They will either not register to vote or fail to actually cast their ballot. Those who do vote this fall will help determine the nation’s future on many significant issues. Don’t think so? Read on. This has been a huge month in the history of American politics and I hope you have been paying attention. Permit me to highlight three issues of import. First, the Supreme Court struck down key provisions of an Arizona immigration law that made it a state crime for illegal immigrants to seek work or fail to carry proper documentation. But they unanimously upheld a provision of the state law sometimes called the "show me your papers" statute. This provision of the law, strongly opposed by the Obama administration, allows local police to check the immigration status of people they stop in the normal course of their duties. But within hours of the Court releasing their decision, the Obama administration announced that the Homeland Security Department would no longer respond to calls from Arizona police concerning the arrest of illegal aliens. How do you feel about the Court’s decision? How about the Obama administration’s reaction to it? Second, to the surprise of many arm-chair Supreme Court analysts, they upheld the Affordable Care Act (a.k.a. Obama-Care) as constitutional. This included the controversial individual mandate provision that will require people to purchase government-approved health insurance. The law stipulates that those who refuse to purchase health insurance would be required to pay a fee/fine. President Obama, who had previously promised not to raise taxes on a single American earning less than $250,000/year, was adamant that the fee/fine was not a tax. But the majority opinion of the Court was that Congress does not have the Constitutional authority to levy a fee/fine but does have the Constitutional authority to levy a tax. So, they ruled that it’s a tax and not a fee/fine. Democrats argue that, in spite of their Court victory, the tax is not really a tax, and is still a fine or fee. They also say that the new law will benefit every person in America by reducing health care costs. Republicans argue that if the word “taxâ€? would have been in the original bill, neither the House nor Senate would have approved it. Further, they argue that Obama-Care includes 21 new taxes, is unaffordable, will lead to health-care rationing, and is an intrusion into the doctor-patient relationship. They promise to repeal it if Governor Romney is elected, they win a majority in the Senate, and retain a majority in the House of Representatives. This is an area where people hold strong feelings, and your view of this issue should help you decide how to vote in November. Third and finally, some say that the way to grow a robust economy is to eliminate barriers to production by lowering income and capital gains tax rates, eliminating many government-imposed regulations, and severely reducing the size and scope of the Federal Government. Ronald Reagan, JFK, economist Milton Friedman, Governor Romney, and most Republicans generally share this philosophy. Others say that the government is the only institution capable of getting enough money into circulation to stimulate our economy. They argue that more deficit spending, printing more money, and growing the size of government will stimulate economic growth and enhance private sector job creation. President Obama, FDR, economist John Maynard Keynes, and most Democrats seem to support this view Each of these three issues involves two opposite and competing philosophies that voters will choose between in November. Elections are about choices and how you vote will have consequences. If you have not yet decided which candidates share your values and priorities, now is the time to listen to them as they make their case. I do hope you will study the issues carefully and not rely on 30-second commercials or late-night TV jokes as the basis for your decision. And if you are not yet registered to vote, you can go your County Clerk’s web site or the Colorado Secretary of State’s web site and get the process started. Think, study, vote! and customs. Our first stop brought us to a horse ranch where we had the opportunity to saddle-up and trot along a pre-set trail. After a taste of home-made rum, we were on our way to a sugar cane plantation and production plant. We were shown how early settlers would squeeze the juices out of the cane with the help of oxen circling around a caged-in corral. We then learned about the fermentation process until the final product was completed. We were surprised to find out all the medicinal benefits of drinking pure sugar cane juice and, by the way, nothing goes to waste as the oxen are fed the squeezed out sugar cane stalks. We also had a brief demonstration of how the Dominicans made their coffee, which is currently 5th in production in the world. Next stop was a cocoa bean manufacturing plant where they make the “real good, healthy cocoa. The early process involved crushing the beans with large mallets until they produced a fine powder. For the cigar aficionado, we visited the Don Lucas cigar factory and were shown how they hand roll the cigars and they explained how the leaves are pressed out extremely thin in a compaction press. We also traveled to a spot to have a typical Dominican Republic meal: rice, beans, chicken and pasta. We watched others on Zip lines in the area. And, lastly, went off to a beautiful beach to cool off and shop the local vendors. Meanwhile, back at the resort, you can chose from lots of venues to dine and can include a sunset, candle-lit romantic full course dinner on the beach. Our recent vacation drew us to the tropical paradise of Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. Although Mexico continues to be a strong interest for our clients, we wanted to experience the new, upcoming destination in the Caribbean. Punta Cana did not disappoint us. Frontier offered nonstop ights from Denver this summer and we are, as a Denver travel business, hoping they will continue it throughout the year. Punta Cana did not disappoint us. From the land to the water enthusiast, all the bases were covered. As we have mentioned previously, the all-inclusive resort is highly recommended by us. It is a worry-free way to travel in the Caribbean and Mexico. All your meals, snacks, beverages (including alcoholic) are included. You experience exquisite dining and attentive service. Our resort, Secrets Royal Beach is an adult only resort. The beach was dotted with palm-thatched palapas with plenty of lounge chairs for you to find that special place to start that book you brought with you. Friendly, helpful servers circulated around the beach and pool area to keep you refreshed and satisfied. The resort is located on Bavaro Beach, one of the most beautiful with sand as soft as talcum powder and clear, turquoise water. This part of Dominican Republic is located on the Atlantic Ocean side but a short boat ride to the Caribbean side and calmer water for snorkeling. The water was comfortably warm but refreshing. This is a great location for couples and families. We would suggest at least one day-filled tour on this beautiful island with an expert guide. Their insights were interesting and richly added to the excursion. Our tour started with a drive through the small towns and country side learning about many of the locals’ traditions

Firestone Proclaims July 4 Frederick-Firestone Fire District Day
FIRESTONE, COLORADO (July 3, 2012) – Firestone Mayor Chad Auer will read a proclamation at the 10th Annual 4th at Firestone celebration in support of the Frederick-Firestone Fire Protection District’s efforts to keep our community safe. Auer said, “The Frederick-Firestone Fire Protection District exemplifies the highest levels of professionalism in both service to citizens and intergovernmental collaboration. The District has actively engaged in regional planning initiatives which continue to provide a proactive vision for a thriving Firestone. The fact that the FFFPD has recently obtained the highest customer service rating of any governmental agency (Firestone Citizen Survey 2012) testifies to its commitment to excellence. The reading of the proclamation will taking place around 12:30 p.m. at Miners Park, 226 Grant Ave., the location of the festivities. During this time, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9741 will present the colors along with the singing of the National Anthem. In addition, Veterans will be recognized for their efforts during this time. “There is no doubt that the FFFPD has risen to the challenge of providing the highest quality services to the residents of a high growth district, Auer said. “If fact, I would assert that the FFFPD is the national standard for organizational planning, scalability and service management. Further, the quality of its leadership and the FFFPD as a whole, is a critical element of my 'stump speech' when advancing our economic development initiatives.

What to Do If You Haven't Filed an Income Tax Return
Filing a past due return may not be as difficult as you think. Taxpayers should file all tax returns that are due, regardless of whether you are able to pay any possible tax liability that is due on the tax returns. Depending on an individual taxpayer's facts and circumstances, there is a possibility that filing late may qualify for a payment plan. It is important, however, to know that full payment of taxes upfront saves you in additional money paid in penalties and interest. You will want to gather the tax documents you have and call to set up an appointment with a Certified Public Accountant. You will want to bring all information that you have in your possession related to both income and deductions for the tax year(s) in which a tax return is required to be filed. Once your tax return has been prepared and filed, there are several different ways to make a payment on any tax liability you owe to the IRS and/or the State of Colorado. If you have money available, payments can be made by electronic funds transfer, check, money order, or cashier's check. Other options to consider are the use of a loan or a credit card. These are viable options if the combination of penalties and interest that is imposed by the IRS is higher than the interest rate that would be charged from a credit card company or interest on a loan. You should pay as much as possible before entering into an installment agreement. If the taxpayer is unable to pay all taxes due on their tax return after it has been filed, they are encouraged to pay as much as possible now. This will help to lower the amount of interest and penalties that will be assessed on the remaining balance. In addition the IRS has programs that are designed to help the taxpayer meet their tax obligations without causing additional hardship. These options are an installment agreement and an offer in compromise. An installment agreement or monthly payment plan allows a taxpayer to pay your remaining tax debt owed over time. Penalties and interest will continue to be charged on the unpaid portion of the debt throughout the duration of the installment agreement/payment plan. An offer in compromise allows you to settle for a lesser amount that you actually owe. However in both cases, you will need to qualify based on their requirements. What Will Happen If You Don't File Your Past Due Return or Contact the IRS It's important to understand the ramifications of not filing a past due return and the steps that the IRS as well as any state Department of Revenue’s will take. Taxpayers who continue to not file their required returns and fail to respond to any IRS requests for a return filing may be considered for a variety of enforcement actions such as wage garnishments. If you haven't filed a tax return yet, please contact me. Denyse Gibbs, CPA - Owner of Gibbs & Associates, PLLC in Firestone can be reached at 303-908-6240 or denysegibbscpa@gmail. com.

Newsflash . . . The Media Doesn’t Know Anything About Mortgages!
When I listen to the media talk about mortgages and what is available to consumers, I realize one thing . . . They have no idea what they are talking about! There are so many great mortgage programs available, right now, for Homeowners and Homebuyers, but the Media wants you to believe no one can qualify for a mortgage and the sky is falling! So let’s separate Fact from Fiction: The Lie The Truth You need 20% down to buy a house There are many programs available even up to 100% of the purchase price You have to have perfect credit to get a mortgage Most people can qualify with a 620 credit score (Most people have this minimum score) Lenders don’t want to give mortgages Banks and Mortgage lenders want your business because they can’t collect interest if they don’t write loans If you had Bankruptcy you can never get a mortgage You can usually get a mortgage within 2 years of a bankruptcy, 3 years from a foreclosure. Homeowners can’t refinance their homes Many homeowners are refinancing to save a lot of money each month. Housing values are on the rise allowing even more people to refinance The media wants you to be afraid because fear is news worthy, the truth is a lot less exciting. Here’s the bottom line, there is a lot of money to lend right now and you can save a fortune by taking advantage of these unbelievably Low Rates! Don’t be afraid, just get the facts. Take 5 minutes out of your day to find out where you stand so you can see what is available. I am happy to give you a 100% Free consultation specific to you with absolutely no obligation to do anything! This would at least help you to make a decision based on Truth, not Fear and Lies! Ribbon Cutting at Onorato Park Opens New Phase of Improvements
The Firestone Parks, Trails and Recreation Advisory Board held a ribbon cutting on July 9, 2012, to officially mark the opening of the recent phase of improvements at Onorato Park in Old Town Firestone. Onorato family members were present for the dedication. Firestone Trustee Paul Sorensen said, “The Parks Trails and Recreation Board and the Firestone Town Board planned and built a beautiful addition to Onorato Park. I am so impressed with the quality of the new tennis court and the matching resurfacing of the basketball court that I encourage all residents to stop by and see this beautiful addition to our parks. Construction started in mid-April on a new tennis court for the park. Also included in the improvements was a resurface to the basketball court, new sidewalks, a drinking fountain and landscape additions. Onorato Park is Firestone’s oldest park located within the heart of Old Town. The Parks, Trails and Recreation Advisory Board will be reviewing the mast plan for Onorato Park for any future improvements and will make recommendations to the Board of Trustees for its budget process.

Weight Training
If you want to lose weight and increase your metabolism, one of the most important things you can do is lift weights. Your nutritional diet and cardio training is important as well, but when it comes to changing how your body looks and feels, weight training (also known as strength training) will win every time. Here are some of the benefits of a weight training program that just might motivate you to start: Helps increase your metabolism. (muscle will burn more calories than fat, so the more muscle you have the more calories you will burn). Increases the ability of the core muscles to stabilize the pelvis and spine under more pressure. Improves your muscle size and endurance by increasing the strength of the muscles, ligaments, tendons, and joints. Increases bone mineral density and strengthens bones (especially important for women). Helps improve balance and coordination, helping you avoid injuries. Increases your self-esteem and confidence. Many people will say as they get older they can't workout, or they don't have time. Then they pay the price by losing strength and muscle mass that is necessary for daily functioning, which then leads to an increase in injuries. Have you ever heard of the saying, "if you don't use it, you lose it"? Well, this holds true in this case, if you fail to keep up your strength, especially as you get older, you will have difficulties with simple everyday tasks that you use to be able to do with ease and possibly injure yourself. So learn the benefits of working with free weights from a skilled Certified Personal Trainer. Tracy Rewerts at Time For Change Personal Training, LLC can help you benefit from a weight training program to help you prevent an injury from occurring or to start healing from an injury from the past. No matter what your age, there's a need for strength training and I can help you determine the frequency, number of reps, and the amount of weight to lift during your workouts depending on your personal goals.
The most familiar myth about weight training (especially for women) is that lifting weights will make my muscles too big. Lighter weights with fast repetitions will yield nice toned muscles, rather than large muscle bulk. If bulk is what you're looking for, I can adjust for that as well. Don't just jump into weight lifting quite yet. Keep these key points in mind before you get started on your strength training workout: 1.Be sure to always warm up before you start your workout or weight lifting to prevent injuries. 2. Don't hold your breath while performing exercises. Be sure to breath correctly by exhaling forcefully through Committed to offering your mouth during the hardest unparalleled personal service part of the exercise and Inhaling through the easiest What you can expect: part. Watch your posture and be sure not to "cheat" by using the momentum to lift the weight. (this means you're trying to compensate and you're using too heavy of weights). 5. Always tighten your core by engaging your abdominal muscles during every movement. If you have any questions and need help with your workout routine, give me a call or drop me an email so I can help you improve your body and health through a weight training program created specifically for your body's needs. Relationship Building as THAT PLACE Continues to Grow and Plans to Open
So much has been happening! THAT PLACE was present at the Special Olympic Softball Tournament and then in the Parade for Forth in Firestone. They plan on being more and more involved in the Tri-town communities as well with their own major event of Opening Day scheduled for Labor Day 2012. THAT PLACE Inc. has now received individual donations from people in the area – Greg and June Small (Mead) and Rob and Michelle Valois (Dacono) who see the potential and believe in the mission of THAT PLACE. They have received a donation from a person out of state who sees the importance as well, Mark Nighman (Tennessee). To date, the following companies have supported THAT PLACE Colorado, Inc. with sizeable donations/grants. West Elk Consulting, LLC (Platteville), Xilinx (Longmont, Co) in the amount of $1,000, Praxair Inc. (Connecticut) in the amount of $2,500 and most recently, OtterCares in the amount of $10,000. Something very exciting about the companies that have made these donations is that we have met with people from them and are forming a working relationship with them. The first company to donate to us actually saw and believed our vision before anyone else. West Elk Consulting, LLC, a local IT Consulting Company, gave us the seed money necessary to cover fees associated with becoming an approved 501(c)(3) by the IRS standards. Greg Small of West Elk Consulting, LLC is planning on teaching computer classes to the students at THAT PLACE! Another thing we are very excited about is that OtterBox will soon be moving to our area and their OtterCares Foundation (the charitable arm with the mission of Educating and Empowering Youth) has a curriculum which offers the opportunity for youth to experience

the Entrepreneurial and Philanthropic avenues of business. We are planning to utilize this piece at THAT PLACE to benefit our teens as well as a selected area cause. Mindy Brooks of Xilinx put on a THAT PLACE t-shirt and marched along with some of her family in the Forth in Firestone Parade showing their enthusiastic support! Mark Neu, husband to Callico Neu, founder and Executive Director or THAT PLACE, will be offering his expertise in Chemistry and Math at THAT PLACE and hopes to recruit some colleagues from Praxair (a company very big in Math and Science) to come and help make the learning fun! (Have you seen liquid Nitrogen used to make ice cream, or freeze a banana on the spot so that it breaks when you hit it on the counter?) We are going to be having more frequent Community Meetings. Look at our Face Book page and web-site to stay on top of Public Meetings held on some Wednesday evenings at the Carbon Valley Regional Library at 6:30pm and continuing until after the doors open so that people may come and find out what THAT PLACE’s needs are and how they may step in to help! Applications will be available at each meeting as will open discussion about finances and information about upcoming plans and needs. Also, as always “like our Face Book page www. facebook.com/thatplacecolorado and check out our web site www.thatplacecolorado.com to keep up-to-date on a day-to

Frederick Businesses to Get Help
On July 23rd the Downtown Business Association (DBA) met to discuss opportunities and direction for the downtown. During the meeting, the Town presented a proposed plan that would introduce a Revolving Loan Fund (RLF) that would be available to downtown businesses and residents. The RLF would be focused directly on the facades including sidings, painting, lighting, signage and awnings, to name a few possibilities. The RLF will be an impetus to continue beautifing elemen reinvestment into the area. Also, the Town is moving forward on plans to construct a gazebo in Crist Park. Chartreuse
Chartreuse? Yes why not? A visually empowering color, chartreuse is used for just about everything in the home these days - glassware, artwork, dishes, flooring, carpet, fabric, upholstery - you name it. We nominate it for an accent wall in any room. By definition chartreuse is one of many colors between blue and green. Origination tells us this color was so named because of its resemblance to the color of an aromatic liqueur made by the Carthusian Monks of the Grande Chartreuse Mountains near Grenoble France. Variations of chartreuse range from yellow-green to green-yellow. Either way its the perfect color to pair with grays, blues, purples, oranges, white and black. One of our favorites is chartreuse and violet in darker shades such as Sherwin Williams SW 6557 Wood Violet accented by SW 6711 Parakeet, a beautiful combination found in nature all the time. Because they are cool colors and close on the color wheel they may need some warming up, either by accompanying them along with warm neutrals and/or using warm mid tone woods in your room. Want a modern look? Try Sherwin Williams Frolic SW 6703 with SW Pure White SW 7005. If you prefer to tone it down use Sherwin Williams Chartreuse SW 0073 along with a gray and tan such as SW 7016 Mindful Gray or SW 6086 Sand Dune or any other warm neutral. Virus “Soup To Stop Listeria!
It has been a long time since I purchased meat from the grocery store. I used to trust that the product available there was safe, wholesome and fresh. In today’s world with the e-coli, listeria and freshness issues, I can safely say I don’t plan to buy meat anywhere except where I am sure that the animal is raised humanely, processed cleanly and has not been injected, dipped or washed with any kind of chemical that is supposed to keep me safe. Producers are so concerned about spoilage and bacteria that they are Organic trying to poison us to keep us safe. Case in point, just recently Hormone the FDA announced an approval to Free use viruses that eat bacteria as an anti-listeria agent! Listeria grows on meat product that is processed in unclean conditions. Why does the FDA allow these processing facilities to stay open? Instead of closing them down, they approved a virus “blendâ€? can be sprayed directly on processed meat products such as cold cuts, hot dogs, etc. and is regarded as a “food additiveâ€?. They claim that it is harmless to the consumer and most of these viruses reside in a human stomach anyway. I happen to know that we don’t get sick from viruses we carry unless our immune system is compromised. Did the FDA think of that? Calling this virus soup a food additive means the producer is not required to list it on the product label. Doesn’t it make you wonder what else they don’t list on the product label? Another case in point, wine-making residue could extend shelf life and preserve avor in red meat. Well, maybe that isn’t so bad, but what is wrong with wanting fresh products and expecting that when products are no longer fresh, they will be pulled from the grocery store shelf? Here at Rocky Plains Quality Meats we know exactly how our Buffalo, chicken, pork and lamb products are raised, processed and our freshness dates are real. You have a choice. Wouldn’t you rather be sure that what you eat is pure? Rocky Plains Quality Meats is as close as you can get to hunting it yourself! Are You Carb Sensitive?
How many times have you been tempted with bagels, doughnuts, or pastries at a business meeting or school functions? So many people bring “carb-riddenâ€? treats to these functions because most people will readily eat them. Carbs are also a cheap way to feed the masses. Next time you are faced with these food choices, just sit back and take note of how different people are affected by these foods. About half an hour after eating these foods, some people will start to drag, while others will perk up. Your body can overreact to carbs making you hungry, crabby, and tired. That’s because some people have difficulty digesting carbs, while others process them efficiently. One of the differences is the varying levels of insulin, a hormone that signals your body to start absorbing glucose (sugar). Every time you eat refined carbs, which are a fast and easy source of glucose, your pancreas releases a rush of insulin. Some carbsensitive individuals pump out more insulin than others when they eat refined carbs including white bread, bagels, doughnuts, and pastries, etc. Sports Medicine ď Ź Chiropractic These insulin spikes are very bad news: They have been Acupuncture linked to increased hunger, greater food intake, and more Physical Therapy cravings for sweets, all of All In One Location which leads to a nutritional disaster. Not all carbs are Accepting New Patients “badâ€?. Whole grains are Accepting United Health Care, Anthem, Kaiser, Aetna and many more fiber full and slower digesting preventing that immediate rush of glucose, making (303)833-2332 this a better carb choice. Dr. Michael P. Simone, DC Dipl. Med. Ac. If you are “appleâ€? shaped (storing more body fat around the midsection), you may be better off on a lower carb nutritional plan. The “pearâ€? shapes may be able to handle a little higher carb intake. People who get a “Buddha bellyâ€? long before your thighs inate may have a higher insulin response. If you are having trouble losing weight, or if you are gaining weight like gangbusters and cannot figure out why, it may be that your carb intake is not proper for your body type. A sound nutritional plan with the proper macronutrients (protein, carbs, and fats) and calorie count could help you reach your goals. Apple Cider Vinegar
So many cultures include some type of vinegar or a fermented food with their meals. For example, a dish in Germany will include sauerkraut or a side dish of beans and vegetables soaked in vinegar. Besides being very tasty, fermented foods and vinegar assist in healthy digestion. Since many people do not include these food varieties on a daily basis, a good alternative is to drink a little apple cider vinegar (fermented apple cider) with water before meals. In this article I’ll provide some background information about the digestive system and how this vinegar can help. Many people experience gas, bloating, or acid reflux (“heart burn”) and think that they have too much acid in their system. Quite the opposite is true, there is not enough acidity, such as hydrochloric acid in the stomach, and digestive enzymes to properly absorb, digest and assimilate food. The food then ferments or putrefies, which is what we typically feel coming up and burning our esophagus. This is generally true for people unless there is an ulcer present, in which case vinegar would not be appropriate. Why does our digestion decrease in it’s effectiveness? There are many reasons, two main reasons are:
303.833.0310
a natural decrease in digestive enzymes and hydrochloric acid occurs as we age; stress and fear puts the system into a state of “fight or flight” which draws attention away from the digestive system and engages muscle coordination and circulation. How does vinegar help? Apple cider vinegar is fermented apple cider, not all vinegars go through the fermentation process, some are distilled. It is the fermented vinegar that works to bolster digestive enzymes within the digestive system. Fermented vinegar is cloudy, not clear. Most people know of Bragg organic apple cider vinegar sold in a glass container at any supermarket. Fermented and acidic foods such as vinegar and citrus do not make the system more acidic, but more alkaline. It is an acidic environment that cancer cells and candida/yeast flourish, so it is important to keep a pH balance of 7 (neutral) or slightly lower (alkaline). Another example, meat has a low pH, (more alkaline) but when assimilated into our system, contributes to an acidic environment. I hope this was a concise and informative article. If you would like to read more about apple cider vinegar and fermented foods, I’d like to recommend my favorite nutrition book by Paul Pitchford, “Healing with Whole Foods”. Properly Feeding Your Soul
You know that you have an eternal soul, right? God made every human being a “living soul”, and you can read about the first man, Adam, in Genesis chapter 2. There you will see that when God breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, the man became a “living being” (soul). Matter of fact, we could truly say that our Heavenly Father is still the original ‘soul Man’. So since we have a soul, or more properly, ARE a living soul, we ought to learn how to take care of this part of our being. The New Testament clarifies that we are ‘spirit and soul and body’ (see First Thessalonians 5:23). A simple way to understand the difference is this: your body is your body-the physical part of your being, the earthly residence (tent) in which you live. Your spirit and soul are a bit more challenging to describe, and even more difficult to distinguish. While they are alike in their nature and activities, Hebrews 4:12 suggests they can be distinguished. “Generally speaking, the spirit is the higher and the soul is the lower element. The spirit may be recognized as the life principle bestowed on man by God, and the soul as the resulting life constituted in the individual” (quoted from W.E.Vine’s Expository Dictionary of New Testament Words). Some suggest the sprit is the part of us that continues on after this life ends, either in Heaven with the Lord or in hell separated from God. The soul then would be your personality-that which makes you unique from all other human beings. Throughout the New Testament these two (spirit and soul) are used somewhat interchangeably, so the thought of ‘feeding your soul’ extends to your spirit as well. How then is it done? What must we do who seek to get and keep our souls in excellent condition? The starting point is very clear-we MUST establish a personal relationship with God through His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. Apart from Him we can do nothing that will benefit us in eternity. To do this is both simple and difficult. Because it involves an act of our will, we must be willing to submit to God, and some find that a very challenging thing to do. Start with reading the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John) in the New Testament, for that will give you a good overview of the life of the Son of God-the One who came to “seek and to save that which was lost”. It will be easy to fall in love with this Person when you see how He lived His life for others and then gave it up on the cross of Calvary. Once you have bowed your heart to Jesus, the fun begins. Scripture teaches us that “faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ”. Continuing in a daily habit of Bible study will gain you much understanding of what 11078 Cimarron St., Ste. H our Lord requires of you in daily living (summed up Firestone, CO 80504 nicely in Micah 6:8 with the words “to do justice, to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God.” Following through with that command of God will keep most of us busy the rest of our days, and Scripture is filled with more growing in faith and accepting the challenges life throws our way with much more success than than good ideas about how to conduct ourselves before God and with our fellow man. Commands and principles fill those who ‘go it alone.’ Meet the Lord personally, greet Him each day in the pages of Scripture and prayer, and find the pages of the greatest Book ever written, and stories abound fellowship and encouragement in a good church home, and you will do well my friend. Properly about people just like us who sought God and followed Him. Establishing a good reading habit in the Word of God will feeding your soul isn’t difficult when you realize that God puts His very Spirit in your spirit at be easier if you affiliate yourself with others seeking to do the the time of new birth, and so with His daily guidance and presence, our journey and our path is same. You need to find a good church home where you can made much clearer and certain. If you would like a free booklet on finding the Savior (called The share your life with other God-fearing men and women. The moment has arrived. Your little baby has sprouted wings and is ready to leave the nest – at least for a few hours a day. Preschool looms on the horizon. So how important is all of this? It turns out, very! Those crayons and pipe cleaners may look innocent enough, but how and where they’re introduced can have long-reaching ramifications. According to the U.S. Department of Education, preschool plays a large role in later academic success. “Children in high quality preschools display better language, cognitive, and social skills than children who attended low quality programs.” They have longer attention spans, stronger social abilities, and better language and math skills well into their elementary school careers. In fact, 20 or 30 odd years after they’ve put down their wooden blocks and stepped away from the sand table, they’re still reaping the benefits – they’re more likely to graduate from high school, more likely to hold high paying jobs, even more likely to own their own home. Creative Years Learning Center has offered high quality Infant, Toddler, Preschool and School-Age Programs for over 35 years and is now pleased to announce their new AM/PM/Full Day Preschool Sessions for the 2012/13 School Year. Program Details: • AM Session 8:30-Noon • PM Session Noon-3:30 • Full Day Session 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM • $ 15 per day for ½ Day Sessions • $30 per day for Full Day Sessions • 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 day programs per week are available • Nutritious Hot Lunch Provided • Award-winning Social Development Curriculum • Zoo-Phonics Multisensory Language Arts Program • Highly-individualized Learning Plans to Enhance Kindergarten Readiness • Low Staff:Child Ratios • Extended Care is Available for Additional Charge For a full list of benefits and details regarding the New AM/PM Preschool Sessions visit www.creativeyears.org or call us at 303-833-9001. Distracted Drivers and School Zones Are a Deadly Combination.
What you should know to help your children stay safe as they walk As kids head back to school, Safe Kids’ new study “Characteristics of Distracted Drivers in School Zones: A National Report” reveals a scary truth: One out of every six drivers in school zones is distracted. With cell phones, email and text messaging being added to the list of more traditional distractions like eating and grooming, there are more ways than ever for drivers to become distracted – and potentially dangerous to children as they walk to and from school. About 10 percent of drivers were caught using hand-held electronics—such as cell phones and PDA’s. The Danger of Distracted Driving Recent studies have measured the driving skills of distracted drivers showing they perform as bad as or worse than drivers who are drunk. This is frightening for anyone on the road, but it’s a particularly dangerous situation when kids are added into the mix. Common Traits of Distracted Driving Seatbelt use. Drivers that don’t wear a seatbelt are 34 percent more likely to be distracted than drivers who are buckled up. As a driver, if you engage in one risky behavior – you are more likely to engage in multiple unsafe driving behaviors. Time of day. Afternoon drivers are 22 percent more likely to be distracted than morning drivers. Throughout the year, one in three child pedestrian deaths occur between 3 and 7 p.m., making afternoons the most dangerous time for children to walk. Gender. Female drivers are 21 percent more likely to be distracted than male drivers. Moms today have a million things on their to-do lists and too often women are multitasking behind the wheel. But that doesn’t mean male drivers are off the hook—their rate of distraction was still way too high. Traffic volume. People driving on roads with a lot of traffic are 16 percent more likely to be distracted than those driving on roads with less traffic.

$12k Raised for CV Academy
CVA's Annual Golf Tournament was a big success this year - $12,000 was raised thanks to all of our wonderful sponsors, silent auction donors, staff, and volunteers! An extra big thanks to Sheila Carey for her outstanding work as this year's golf tournament organizer. The money raised at this year's golf tournament will be used to buy books for the library and provide supplemental curriculum for the classrooms.
Back to School Safety Tips:
Safety steps you can take:
Supervise children to make sure they get to the bus stop on time, stand away from the road, and avoid play near the road. Make sure clothing has no loose drawstrings and backpack straps are short, so they don't get caught in the handrail or bus door. If you think a bus stop is in a dangerous location, talk with your school office or transportation director about changing the location. The “Caution Zone is an area 10 feet around the school bus. When the bus is loading, stay away from the caution zone and wait for the driver's signal before proceeding. Encourage safe school bus loading and unloading. Teach your child to ask the driver for help if he or she drops something near the bus. If a child stoops to pick up something, the driver cannot see them, creating a situation where they could be hit by the bus. A book bag or backpack helps keep loose items together. Teach your child that when unloading, look before stepping off the bus to be sure no cars are passing on the shoulder (side of the road). Move away from the bus, but stay in the bus driver’s line of sight. Teach your child to take five "giant steps" out from the front of the bus before crossing the street, or until the driver's face can be seen. Wait for the driver to signal that it is safe to cross. Teach your child to look left-right-left when coming to the edge of the bus to make sure traffic is stopped. Continue to watch for traffic when crossing.

School Bus Stops: Why students are in danger
Millions of children in the United States ride safely to and from school on school buses each day. Although school buses are the safest way to get them to school, an average of 33 schoolage children die in school bus-related traffic crashes each year. Most of those killed are pedestrians, five to seven years old. They are hit in the caution zone around the bus, usually by a passing vehicle. It is illegal for a car to pass a bus when its red lights are ashing. In neighborhoods, near schools, and at bus stops, drivers need to take special care because children do not behave like adults. They can become easily distracted and may begin to cross the street without looking. They don’t understand the danger of moving vehicles, and they find it difficult to judge vehicle speed or distance. Most importantly, children expect vehicles to stop for them at the school bus stop. Young children are most often hit because they hurry to get on or off the bus, act before they think, assume motorists will see them and will wait for them to cross, and they don’t always stay within the bus driver's sight.
Summer vacation is coming to an end at the Carbon Valley Recreation Center. The heat has kept the pool very busy with large groups coming in from Greeley, Thornton, and Longmont. The youth summer club has been booming with kids, averaging 20 kids per week. They are all enjoying the fun daily activities that have been planned. The SOS class for youth has also been very popular. I must say staff has been keeping kids safe, healthy, and involved. Hunters Safety classes have been well attended this summer as well as the Babysitting Boot camp, the British Soccer camp had 62 participants, over 90 kids and adults enjoyed the Denver Nugget visit, and the first ever timed Tri-Town Trot held on 7/4 was a great success with 85 runners. The senior program has also been hopping and is enjoying the many, many trips that have been planned by staff. CARA swim team, CARA gymnastics and CARA track are winding down their seasons, as well as girls softball and youth baseball. It just seems like yesterday when the games and meets started and now they are done. Of course with the end of one season the next sports season starts. Youth football, cheerleading, volleyball, and soccer are in the process of registration. Adult softball and volleyball league registration is also in process so don’t be late to register for these fun activities. The September through December Recreation Review is being worked on and should be sent out to everyone by the latter part of August. Once again the staff has come up with many new programs and activities so please take a look at it when you receive it. The District is going with a new computer program so please bear with us as the new system will go into effect on September 2nd. We are very pleased that some activities will give you the opportunity to register on-line. Last but not least just a reminder that the Carbon Valley Park and Recreation District facilities will be closed from Saturday, August 25th through Monday, September 3rd for annual cleaning and repair. If you have any questions on any of our fun events please don’t hesitate to contact the Carbon Valley Recreation Center at 303-8333660. If you have any questions contact the Carbon Valley Recreation Center at 303-8333660 or visit 701 5th Street in Frederick or www.recdistrict.com.

Redeeming Hollywood One Script at a Time:
Faith-Based Screenwriting Competition Sees More Winners Go into Production By Dan Wooding, Founder of ASSIST Ministries HOLLYWOOD, CA (ANS) -- More Hollywood producers and studios are flocking to the faith-based winners of the Annual $50,000 Kairos Prizes for Spiritually Uplifting Screenplays by Beginning and First-Time Screenwriters. According to a news release from Movieguide®, the first Grand Prize winner, JOHN THE REVELATOR, was released in January 2011 on DVD as JOHNNY. Three more Kairos winners went into production recently, including TOUCHED (retitled A SEASON OF MIRACLES) by Rusty Whitener, A MATTER OF TIME by Christina Denton, and UNDER THE APPLE TREE, a romantic comedy with Christian values, by Matthew Hill and Landon Johnson. Michael Trent, manager of the Kairos Prize competition, said three other winners are scheduled to go into production before the end of the year. "This is a tremendous achievement," said Dr. Ted Baehr, co-founder of the competition and publisher of Movieguide®: The Family Guide to Movies and Entertainment. "It usually takes nine to 13 years on average for a script to be produced into a movie." "God really seems to have His fingerprints on this competition," Trent added. "I'm excited to see what's coming next." Supported by a grant from the John Templeton Foundation headquartered just outside Philadelphia, the Annual Kairos Prizes (now in their eighth year) reward the three best scripts that "greatly increase humanity's love or understanding of God." Prizes of $25,000, $15,000, and $10,000 are presented each year at the Annual Faith & Values Awards Gala and Report to the Entertainment Industry sponsored by Good News Communications, dba the Christian Film, & Television Commission® and Movieguide®. The Grand Prize winner is now sent out to more than 80 top producers, studio executives, and filmmakers in Hollywood. Many of them want to read the two runners up. In fact, Jeffrey Katzenberg, founder of DreamWorks Animation (SHREK and MADAGASCAR) praised the last two Grand Prize winners, BLUE WATER METAL and THE HALO THEORY, for their creativity and promise. Dr. Ted Baehr has been teaching screenwriting for 30 years. Recently, he published his guide to writing, producing, and marketing inspiring movies, HOW TO SUCCEED IN HOLLYWOOD (WITHOUT LOSING YOUR SOUL). His next four-day screenwriting workshop takes place June 27-30 in Southern California, followed by one in late August.
Entries for the Eighth Annual Kairos Prizes are now being accepted. An Early Bird Discount of $50 will be given to those who submit their script entries by Sept. 24, 2012. After that, the entry fee will be $80 until the final deadline of Nov. 2, 2012. Criteria for the prizes may be found on the Kairos Prize website at www.kairosprize. com. The Kairos Prize winners will be announced on February 15, 2013 at the 21st Annual Faith & Values Awards Gala and Report to the Entertainment Industry in the Grand Ballroom at the Universal Hilton Hotel near Hollywood. For more information on Dr. Baehr's regular screenwriting workshops and classes, please call 1-888248-6689 or visit www.movieguide.org. Dr. Baehr is chairman of the Christian Film & Television Commission® (CFTVC) ministry and director of 40 303.651.16 its family guide to movies and entertainment, Movieguide® iecc.org www.prair (www.movieguide.org).
