The Consumer Report of Mead—Bringing Residents Information About Area Businesses

Vol. 3, Issue 8

A LETTER FROM MAYOR GARY SHIELDS Community Day September 12 Dear Residents, There are a few items of local interest that I would like to bring to your attention.

particular, I would like to thank the residents who live along the detour route as I know this was a great disruption to your daily lives. In the end, I am confident that the benefits of a much needed road improvement will outweigh the temporary inconveniences.

First and foremost, it is important for all of us to remember that the local schools are back in session and that we should allow extra time in our morning and afternoon commutes to account for the added pedestrian and vehicle traffic. We have been experiencing a drastic increase in the number of speeding complaints lately and have asked for additional safety measures, signage and law enforcement attention. Please drive safely.

September is a time for celebration in Mead and I look forward to seeing you all this year at the annual Community Day event on September 12th. I know that the committee has been hard at work and I cannot wait to see how they plan to outdo last year’s event. The day’s festivities will begin at 8 am with the Roy’s Run 5k and start again at 2 pm in the Town Hall Park. The event will continue into the night with live entertainment featuring the Wash Park Band and will end after the fireworks display that is scheduled to start at 9 pm.

I would like to thank everyone for their patience during the Welker Avenue project. In

New Little Free Library

Upcoming town projects include an extension to the trail system south of Adams Avenue and continuing to Highway 66. In addition, road paving and drainage work in the Sekich Business Park at Hilltop Road and various chip seal projects on the roads around town. Please be careful when driving thru these work areas and consider alternate routes to avoid conflicts and delays. As always, if you have any questions, concerns or comments, please do not hesitate to contact me by calling the Town Hall @ 970535-4477. Sincerely,

he Town of Mead has recently installed their SECOND Little Free Library right outside the Mead Post Office on July 20th. The Downtown Revitalization Committee picked up the library from the Make TODAY Count! Campaign at Weld County Headquarters in Evans in June. This campaign launched in June 2013 involves all of Weld County—individuals and families, schools and churches, organizations and businesses and is committed to a three-year effort building a stronger and healthier community.

Town of Mead’s Little Free Library mission is like others who have started the movement: • To promote literacy and the love of reading by building free book exchanges worldwide. • To build a sense of community as we share skills, creativity and wisdom across generations. For more information on the library, please go to www.littlefreelibrary.org.
