MEAD MAYOR, GARY SHIELDS z As I am writing this article, it appears that winter has decided to remind us of the geography and altitude in which we live. I hope that you have all managed to stay safe on the roads and warm in your homes throughout the arctic cold front that we experienced in November. z While cold weather and snow typically keep us indoors, I want to remind you all of the upcoming Chili Cook Off and Tree Lighting Celebration on December 6th. Our Parks and Recreation Committee has been hard at work planning this event and there is sure to be something for every member of the family to enjoy. Details of the event can be found in the December issue of the Mead Messenger or on the town website, www.townofmead.org.

Santa’s Workshop
by Tiffany // November 10, 2014 // No Comments I don’t know about you, but family game night for the Holcomb’s has gotten way too competitive. It use to be fun, Hunter was old enough to be on her own team and then each one of the boys would team up with me or Matt. Now that Connor is a bit older he tries to play by himself, which is great! Games in our house usually consist of something Disney related. Our favorite games are virtually any Disney Scene It. Apples to Apples Disney Edition is also good, and then there are the Wii games, like Life, Mouse Trap, etc… Like most other families we have shelves and shelves of board games that we never play, but they are there. Anyway last weekend we decided to have a family game night and played Disney Scene It and Apples to Apples Disney. It is always fun to see what the kids are going to say or do, not to mention how much they remember, but honestly, these kids have taken competition to a whole new level. I mean there are arguments over why someone picked the wrong winning card for Apples to Apples or who answered the question first on Disney Scene It. In the end there was crying and yelling; I am not sure that it was worth it to even take the time out to play the games. I love having family time with our kids, but and maybe this sounds bad not when they make something that is supposed to be fun a huge dramatic mess. With that in mind, I have a few questions for some of you parents out there. What are your favorite family games? How do you overcome whining and competition? Have any of you had similar situations, and if so how have you learned to reduce the drama and increase the family fun? Check out www.1momscareerqwest.com.
Aims President Liddell Announces Retirement
Marilynn “Marsi” Liddell president and CEO of Aims Community College announced on November 7 that she will retire June 2015. A special board meeting will be held at Aims Community College at 10:00 am on November 10, 2014 to address this announcement. Dr. Liddell announces her retirement at the height of her success at Aims. As Aims Community College celebrates its recognition from Colorado Completes, the partnership with District 6 and Windsor on Early College endeavors, the 30th anniversary of its Ft. Lupton campus, the ribbon cutting of the remodeled Cornerstone building, the ground breaking of its new Public Safety Institute in Windsor and begins renovation on a state-of-the-art physical fitness and recreation center, we begin to now reflect on all that has been accomplished during Dr. Liddell’s tenure. In the 12 years that Dr. Liddell has served the president of Aims, tuition has remained low and the campus has expanded to offer over 160 degree and certificate programs that keep pace with growing industry and community. In a heartfelt letter to the college staff, faculty and students Dr. Liddell cited a commitment to impacting positive change for the community of Aims and a desire to now spend more personal time with family as her reason for her decision. During her tenure Dr. Liddell has become a respected member of the community serving on multiple boards, service organizations and has been recognized with multiple honors including the most recent recognition as the Northern Colorado BizWest Woman of the Year in Education. Thanks to Dr. Liddell’s leadership, Aims Community College is in a sound position Mead Street financially and has worked hard to partner with local school districts and organizations to create Hwy 66 strong educational programs that have helped decrease the need for remedial education and increase the number of graduates and transfer Drive-Thru! students succeeding at Aims. Dr. Liddell will remain active during the coming semester. The 4327 Hwy 66/Mead St. Board of Trustees goals for the next six months at I-25 • (970)535-0887 include implementation of the College’s strategic Jim Beam plan to ease the transition for the college. Aims Community College looks forward to Bourbon celebrating Dr. Liddell’s success and sharing her 750ml $27.99 accomplishments in the coming months. Call Aims today at (970) 330-8008 or visit limit 3 per ad *w/this ad • while supplies last www.aims.edu for more information on how to Limit 3 per/ad • exp. 12/31/14 register for classes.
