Aging in place with TRU PACE—Program of All-inclusive Care for the Elderly

ecently, I interviewed two of our enthusiastic PACE Participants. These local Coloradoans would like to tell you their story; meet Sam and Jan Sanchez. You may know them from around Carbon Valley.

Sam grew up in Trinidad and moved to Brighton to avoid working in the coal mines. He moved next door to Jan and they started dating and got married a year later.

Jan grew up in Brighton and she wanted to be a teacher. She worked for the Brighton School District as a teacher’s aide with 2nd graders. Sam’s passion was for helping others learn about Jesus.

When Sam decided they should move to Dacono in 1979, Jan cried. “All that was there was an open field with one gas station, a grocery store, the post office and four bars and I hated it! I told my mom and I got no sympathy. She told me you go where your husband goes. She was no help at all! Now I love Dacono! Now we have Kingsoopers, Safeway, many fast food places and restaurants.”

In 1980, Sam went to Bible College and opened the First Baptist Church in Dacono, “Primera Iglesia Bautista Independiente.”

They started in their 2-car garage and began building a 2-story building in the back for the church. They donated the property to the church and it took 7 years to build it. They built it as the money came in and it was debt free. He pastored there for 32 years and had bilingual services. When Sam injured his back severely, they retired.

And shortly afterwards, the church was sold. They currently attend New Horizons

church.

S a m and Jan joined TRU PACE one year ago.

They heard about PACE through Jan’s sister who is in a PACE program in the Denver area. “ O u r enrollment specialist, Andrea encouraged us and helped us with all the paper work. She also helped to see if we qualified for PACE. Enrollment was easy.”

Sam jumped right into the activities at the day center. “Jill, the recreation therapist, has been wonderful,” says Sam. “She has let me do two bible studies a month and has now asked me to do the memorial service for some of the PACE Participants who have passed away. I’m here to help.” His gift is serving others.

Jan shared that she really enjoys the PACE program. “I think all the people here are very friendly and concerned about the PACE Participants. The staff are also very respectful and very caring; every one of them! I love Jill. She is wonderful. She is an encouragement to both me and my husband. Jill encourages you to participate in the games, activities and the dances. We

can’t dance like we use to but we enjoy dancing here as best we can!”

When asked about their goals at PACE, they were both very clear.

For Jan, “My goal was to become m o r e conscious about my weight. I am a diabetic. I came into PACE wearing a 22 size pant a year ago and now I’m down to a 14. I’m almost there! I exercise and I watch what I eat. I do like sweets but I’m not eating them like I use to. My goal was to be healthier.”

Sam has been in physical therapy where he used the rehabilitation gym to help exercise and strengthen himself. “They helped me with my balance. I now use a walker for long distance and a cane for short walks.” He had pain in his shoulder from a fall but the physical therapy team helped him heal it. “I have no pain there now. I’m still on pain meds for my back but I’ve learned to live with this pain.”

“It’s not easy getting older. We believe in God completely. We gave him all of our lives. I don’t know how people do it without the Lord,” says Sam. “We don’t fear getting older. We rely on him one day

at a time.”

When asked what would you say to someone about PACE? Sam said “Get over here as soon as you can! We always tell people about PACE because we love it! We tell them you’ll never be in better hands!”

TRU PACE’s wrap-around services help support older adults and their caregivers as they try to age in place. PACE manages all medical care and medications, in-home services, and rehabilitation therapies, provides transportation, and has a day center Monday through Friday based in Lafayette. TRU is the only PACE provider for Boulder and southwest Weld counties. At the heart of the PACE model is the 11-person Interdisciplinary Team that manages all medical and home care needs for PACE participants. This innovative model looks at the whole person and their personal goals for aging; everyone has their own plan of care. PACE is designed for older adults who are coping with medical issues that are affecting their ability to be as independent as they used to be.

TRU PACE is open Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm. We encourage interested folks to come and see our program. It is an active, happy and social environment. Our total mission is to help older adults remain in their homes and to be independent for as long as possible.

Realizing It’s All for a Much Larger Purpose

M

y children a n d grandchildren keep me lovingly bound to this earth and this time. But I also have two children who died in 1990 and 2002 who draw me heavenward, missing them so deeply that sometimes I wish I were there at that moment. Yes, I still miss them, shed tears on special days like their birthdays and wonder what life would be like if they had not died.

Some days I am so pulled, so stretched between Heaven and Earth that it is physically painful.

Yet, I remain here in Colorado, living and working in Frederick, in my home of twenty-four years now. And I am happy for the most part, usually joyful, mostly content, and always thankful for my family, my home, friends, and neighbors. To be truthful, I never thought my life would be this good.

Good? Why? How is this considered good?

Even before my children died and before any of them were born, violence and tragedy visited almost daily. From my earliest memories, I lived in constant fear. I wasn’t afraid for my life but you know that fear you get, when, in the darkness of the early morning hours, you hear something.

You cannot place the sound and you think someone is in your house. Or out camping in a tent and the moon is new and it’s black and quiet and a twig snaps and a moment later, snaps again, and you wonder who or what is creeping up on you….that kind of fear.

Fear has been my companion for so many years that I felt like we were

conjoined, and I could not imagine my life without it.

And yet, despite a lifetime of insecurity, devastating divorce, and abuse, here I am. Still smiling, still a functioning contributing adult to society. And while I came close to each of these, I’m not a felon, drug dealer or alcoholic AND I’m still alive.

It’s been a daily choice to breath, to look up and away from fear. As devastatingly hard as my life has been, I have also experienced life altering blessings like being able to work from home for 20 years, healthy grandchildren, and friends that still care about me. It was written, “The deeper that sorrow carves into your being the more joy you can contain. Is not the cup that holds your wine the very cup that was burned in the potter’s oven?” ~ Kahlil Gibran (1883-1931) I believe this with my whole heart, now. Though it was not always so. And while I do still experience the depths of sorrow, sometimes, my joy is too much to contain!

So, as I said, I never expected my life to be this good. And then there is still more. I have been given the opportunity, many actually, to help those who now go through what I have gone through in the past. And isn’t this what life is truly about; to walk alongside others, to let them lean on you, to support their head on your shoulder and catch

the tears that drench their laps. To share their burdens and let them know they are not alone…and you are not alone. If not I, then there are others who know of the trials you are going through, at this moment.

This is my life. It was given to me as a gift. I did not always want it but I accept it willingly, today. And as each day passes, I am acutely aware that all the darkness of my life is being used to bring light into yours.

Now, I am visited almost daily by the knowledge that goodness is happening, all around me, because I see that every detail of my life is being worked out and utilized for something good.

eanne Haverty’s main line sewer pipe has broken under the street. We have tried to get the town and her insurance to cover the costs of repairs but neither one will do so. Jeanne is on a very limited budget as Medicaid will not allow her to carry much money in her account an they will not allow a savings account. We are hoping that her friends, family and anyone who can would help her out. We have two bids and they are both for $7,500.00 for repairs as she is responsible to repair the street as well. $5 dollars is great—more is better. Please share this with your friends as well. I

woke up thinking about the delicious deepfried mushrooms I enjoyed a week ago!

I’m not exaggerating.

I pretty much hate leaving my house and I’m ready to jump in the car to get a takeout order of those mushrooms.

They were perfectly battered, fried and just a hint of salt, served with a delicious horseradish sauce… drum roll…they were gluten free!

Going with the auto theme of the area, Collision Brewing Company was built from the ground up with the vision of an auto repair garage. The local owners love cars: fast ones, old ones, beautiful ones. Collision Brewing Company opened September 11 in the Vista Commercial Center off Hwy 119 at 1436 Skyway Dr. The zip code is 80504. Their garage doors open to a huge patio with a view of Longs Peak where you can sit and breathe fresh air around the fire pits while enjoying a house draft or a handcrafted cocktail.

Their brews are as unique as the cocktails; Slug Bug Kolsch, Crusin Cranberry Saison, Roll Over IPA, and Pedal to the Peach to name a few. From rich chocolate body with banana tones to bitter and hoppy with caramel and spice to light and easy with a touch of lemon… are your taste buds salivating yet?

Unlike many breweries, Collision Brewing Company offers a full bar and a large menu of items surely to please the discriminating, such

as myself. I was immediately impressed when I saw the very nice variety of gluten free items. Stephanie, our server, shared that not only do they have gluten free but many vegetarian and vegan options to choose from, as well.

Check out these dishes: Demolition Derby Meatloaf, Back-Fire Bangers or Miso-Ginger Glazed Salmon. Try a Peach Cobb or Roast It Beet Salad, or Sweet and Spicy Beer Pickles…there is also a large selection of sandwiches like the Cuban, Nan’wich or Philly AND the burgers, huge and delicious! Their beef is from Buckner Family Farms and is grass fed and organic. They also have bean/beet patties, Miso Ginger Tofu patties, chicken breast patties, vegan patties, and elk burger.

z Transportation – The Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG) Board of Directors approved the development of a new Transportation Improvement Colleen Whitlow Program (TIP) funding project allocation model to select transportation projects in the region. The model, using a dual approach, splits available funds into two allocations: a regional share and a subregional share. As part of the project recommendation process, the sub-regional share was created to grow collaboration and local values of each geographic region, while keeping the overall principles of Metro Vision and the Regional Transportation Plan. The Town of Mead recently submitted a DRCOG application for the underpass of Highway 66 and Weld County Road 7.

The areas within these parks that were identiďŹ ed as optimal, are areas not being used by the community, storm detention areas, sloped or graded areas ideal for conversion to native grass, and where native grass will add to the aesthetics of the parks. In addition to water conservation, native seeding assists with stabilization by reducing

erosion. This reduces the spread of non-native and invasive plants in these areas. This conversion to native grass is also beneďŹ cial for wildlife, native birds and the ecosystem. The Town of Firestone recognizes that water is a precious resource and is making a concerted effort to conserve where we can and make this resource last for the future. z With spring just around the corner, we are already planning all of our wonderful special events! my energy into fulfilling my responsibility as a director to do my duty to contribute to the governance of United Power.

This past year I completed my Credentialed Cooperative Director Certificate (CCD) that is required by every board member during their first 3 year term. By the time of this election, I will have almost completed the second level of director training, the Board Leadership Certificate. I am currently a member of the National Society of Accountants for Cooperatives and have been for 27 years.

I have used this experience to be an active member on the audit committee.

My wife, Julie, and I have lived in Brighton for over 26 years and we raised our four children here. Previous to being semi-retired, I was the Vice President and CFO of American Pride Co-op for 20 years until it was merged into Agfinity Inc in 2012. I am an active member of the Rotary Club of Brighton and am involved in a number of projects helping the community, especially the dictionary project for 900 third grade students and the U.S. Constitution project for almost 1000 fifth grade students in Brighton and Henderson.

Many exciting changes have been completed in the last few years that are positioning United Power to continue to serve its members to the highest level possible. AMI meters, solar farms, residential solar, net metering and the Tesla battery project for peak shaving to help save members money are all great projects.

The world of generation is changing from carbon based to more renewable sources like solar, wind and hydro. So we must keep ahead of governmental mandates and keep up to date in using the changes in technology to best serve you, our member, owners.

I want United Power to continue to be a strong and nationally recognized leader in electric cooperatives.

Body + Soul Wellbeing Food for the Soul-Why God Made Trees

T

rees are nearly everywhere on earth and all over the Scripture. From the first chapter of Genesis to the last page of Revelation we see these beautiful creations of our Creator God. Nearly one third of the sentences in the first three chapters of the Bible contain a tree. Listen to this from Gen. 2:9: “And out of the ground the Lord God caused to grow every tree that is pleasing to the sight and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden (of Eden), and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

Why do you think God made trees?

Of course, we gain shade and beauty and wood to build with and fruit and a home for birds and squirrels and bugs, etc. In that Gen. 2 description we see the Lord” forming man of dust from the ground and breathing into his nostrils the breath of life” (v7), and immediately in v 8 He “planted a garden” in which He placed the man. And we’re not talking about just a vegetable garden here, but a most beautiful one full of fruit-bearing trees and others, along

with many other life-giving plants. Other than people and God, trees are the most mentioned living thing in the Bible.

In Psalms 1 God tells us that a man who delights himself in the Lord “will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water”. In Proverbs 3:18 wisdom is likened to a tree.

In most of our homes the most comfortable seats are facing a television. In heaven, God’s throne faces a tree (Rev.22:2,3). In what we call ‘nature’, we are confronted with the unmistakable evidence of God’s power and glory. Have you ever stared up at a redwood or a sequoia tree? In so doing, can you see the hand of God? When Adam and Eve ate from the wrong tree, they tried to cover up their crime by undressing the very trees they were charged with “dressing”(Gen 2:15 and 3:7). Then they ran and hid behind them.

Without trees it is impossible to understand the Fall or Jesus’ atoning death. Jesus talked of trees being uprooted and thrown into the sea by faith (Lk 17:6) and spoke of His

Frederick Police Dept. Awards Officer of the Year goes to Community Service Officer Lindsey Semmens

he Frederick Police Department held their annual appreciation banquet for department employees and their families on January 30th. Awards were given out for everything from the Watts homicide investigation to DUI Arrest Leader, and the premiere award, Officer of the Year, went to Community Service Officer Lindsey Semmens, who received the nomination from officers in the department. Semmens was instrumental in creating Frederick Police Department’s new Dog Walker Watch program in 2018.

“I am proud of the work our officers have done this year,” said Frederick Chief of Police Todd Norris. “This department works tirelessly to keep this community safe and feeling connected to their police department, and they should be celebrated for that.”

Twenty-one officers and four civilian employees received Police Service Citations for their exemplary contributions to the Watts homicide investigation. Police Clerk Pat Cochran was recognized for winning the Carbon Valley Rotary Community Heroes Award, and 13 employees were recognized for their participation in the Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run held last May. Officer Ed Goodman was awarded DUI Arrest Leader for 14 DUI arrests in 2018. Community Service Officer Paul Scarlett received an award for five years of service, Officer Aaron Herbert was recognized for ten years of service and Sergeant Ian Albert received an award for fifteen years of service.

All through Jesus’ life He was targeted to be killed by those who hated Him. But the only thing that could harm this carpenter from Nazareth was a tree, because Deut.

21:23 and Gal. 3:13 agree that he who is hanged on a tree is cursed. In the Hebrew language the word for gallows and tree is one and the same. Without trees there is no resurrection or good news on Easter morning. To quote Matthew Sleeth, “The cross is really a tree of life chainsawed down by man’s sin.”

But Jesus’ blood caused a dead tree used as a Roman torture instrument to grow into the symbol of life everlasting- the Tree of Life. Jesus is the Tree of Life, and His followers come to His cross and are healed. Trees give life even after they are dead, just as God makes life available to us.

One last thought: on Easter morning when Mary went down to put flowers on the tomb, she looked up and saw Jesus, but she mistook Him for a gardener. Why

do you suppose? Because He is the new Adam, back on the job where the old Adam failed- dressing and keeping the garden.

And He has a place prepared for those who love Him in heaven, where I suspect the foliage will best anything we have seen on this earth! Trees make us look up, and Jesus once said “And if I be lifted up from the earth, I will draw all men unto Me.” Come to Him and brace yourself for enormous earthly and heavenly blessings.

Financial Focus: Women May Need to Make Extra Financial Moves

I

nternational Women’s Day will be observed on March 8. Around the world, special events will celebrate the cultural, social, political and economic achievements of women. However, this last area – economic progress – is one that still causes concern, and rightfully so, because women still face gender-related challenges. How can you deal with them?

To begin with, you need to recognize the nature of these challenges. While many factors are actually responsible for women facing more economic pressure than men, two stand out in particular: • Gender wage gap – It’s still around, despite some progress toward equality. The U.S. Census Bureau has found that full-time, year-round working women earn about 80% of what their male counterparts earn. Other studies show a slightly smaller gap.

• Caregiving responsibilities – Women typically take more time away from the workforce than men, both to raise children and then, later in life, to take care of aging parents.

These absences can result in lost wages, lower Social Security benefits and fewer contributions to 401(k) and similar retirement plans.

So, given these realities, what can you do to improve your own financial outlook?

Here are a few suggestions: • Increase your contributions to your retirement plan. Every time your salary goes up, increase the amount you contribute to your 401(k) or similar retirement plan. At a minimum, put in enough to earn your employer’s match, if one is offered. These plans offer potential tax-deferred earnings, and since your contributions are typically made with pre-tax dollars, the more you put in, the lower your taxable income.

• Invest for growth. Some studies show that men may invest more aggressively than women – though not necessarily more successfully. However, while you

do need to invest wisely, you can’t ignore the need for growth. Consequently, you should consider including a reasonable percentage of growth-oriented investments in your retirement and other investment accounts, with the precise amount depending on your individual goals, risk tolerance and time horizon.

• Look for income even while serving as caregiver. Of course, you may never become the primary caregiver for your elderly parents – but even if you do, it doesn’t necessarily follow that you must forego all earned income. If it’s possible, you could seek to go part-time at your current job, or request some type of telecommuting arrangement. And as long as you have some earned income, from somewhere, you can still contribute to an IRA. • Manage retirement plan withdrawals carefully. Once you’re retired, possibly to become a full-time caregiver, you can take penalty-free – though still taxable – withdrawals from your 401(k) as early as age 55, provided you meet certain conditions.

Once you’re 59-1/2, you can take penaltyfree withdrawals from a traditional IRA, though the money will be taxable. While you can withdraw contributions you made to a Roth IRA at any time, tax- and penaltyfree, you’ll have to wait until 59-1/2 to take out your earnings free of taxes and penalties.

And you’ll need to find a sustainable withdrawal rate so you can reduce the risk of depleting these accounts too early.

As a society, we are still working toward equality for all people – including economic equality. As a woman, however, you can’t afford to wait until that day arrives, so you need to be proactive in seeking and maintaining your financial security.

Rotary Inducts Frederick-Firestone Fire Protection District Into Membership

arbon Valley Rotary inducted the Frederick-Firestone Fire Protection District into their club as a Corporate Membership. Starting Your Fitness Journey

• Keep improving and challenging yourself. Even if you’ve reached your ideal/ goal weight, don’t just coast. Set new goals like participating in a race or event, a new strength or endurance goal, etc.

• We’re all broken, have major challenges, short-comings, and flaws, so make a change starting today, not next week or next year.

Why is the Turn Left Lane So Short?

ven before the traffic signal was installed at Highway 52 and Glen Creighton, a median was in place to help guide traffic left, straight and right. As a comma shaped median, only two cars can fit in the left turn lane.

Sitting on the south end of the median was a coal car. Although the coal car had been struck a few times, it still remained when the median was rebuilt in 2008 as part of a road paving project – still maintaining the comma shape with limited space. Eventually, someone hit the coal car again permanently damaging it and the coal car was taken away.

With no coal car or other markings, it was hard to see the brick center island. In January, Dacono Public Works installed two signs (one at each end) noting that there is a median – making it easier to see the brick island at night and in bad weather. However, the short lane still seems to be a problem.

During the busy traffic times, a

long line of cars stretches south on Glen Creighton, waiting to turn left or go straight.

With the short left lane and some drivers choosing not to use their left turn signal… it can be confusing trying to determine which way a car is headed.

Jon Rabas, manager for Dacono Public Works Department, agreed that the short turn lane is not effective. Although there is currently not a budgeted project, Rabas confirmed that there have been discussions on how to upgrade and change the turn lane system.

Whatever the future solution, one thing that will help is for drivers to please use their left turn signal when waiting to turn left.

his saying is especially applicable with real estate transactions. Even those that have bought or sold several homes rarely do it often enough to keep up with all the complexities of a real estate transaction.

The market is constantly changing and varies from location to location and within different price ranges. The input and advice you get from an experienced Realtor, working as a Buyer’s Agent or a Seller’s Agent will help you immensely in the process. Your Realtor’s experience will not only help

you understand the issues, but will bring to your attention issues you may have not contemplated. The Realtor is not there to make the decisions for you, but to help you in understanding the issues and your alternatives completely so that you can make the best decision possible.

Take some time to select the Realtor you will be working with, either when buying or selling. Ask about their experience, background and office support. Make sure it is someone that you are confident in, trust, and you are comfortable working with. Ask others about the Realtor and talk to others they have worked with. Check them out online. Discuss how you would prefer communications. Buying or selling can be an intense and somewhat stressful process, but the right Realtor can make it as smooth as possible, and even a little fun.

he Carbon Valley Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) joined with the Firestone American Legion, VFW, and various Boy Scout and Girl Scout Troops to honor the sacrifice and service of America’s Veterans.

The gathering took place at the Cheyenne VA Medical Center in Wyoming on February 15, 2019, during VA National Salute to Veteran Patients Week. Patients and residents were presented with a “Pocket Star” (in remembrance that they are never forgotten) a project of the members of the Carbon Valley NSDAR Chapter, as well as new decks of playing cards.

Chameleon Tendencies

A

s you know, paint color is relative, is influenced by the colors that surround it and the light it sits within. Every once in a while we run across a paint color that seems to change more than usual. One of these is Sherwin-Williams’ Opaline, SW6189.

Considered an off white in SherwinWilliams’ new updated white and pastels section, they also list it in their soft minimalism palette, described as a collection of tinted neutrals. It has a light reflective value of 73 which is high, but not at the top of the range.

We painted it in our Granddaughter’s room in a satin sheen as an off white and it is. Yet it is equally the lightest blue and the lightest green. In fact, it was our granddaughter who first told us she loved her blue and green and white room. Upon further inspection, we saw

what she described - a pale blue wall next to a pale green wall which looked beautiful together. When we viewed the same walls from across the room, they both appeared blue. Turning around and looking at the opposite walls again, produced a pale green. We describe it as light, vibrant and fun!

Another of these colors is SherwinWilliams’ Netsuke, SW6134. From the yellow family, Netsuke ranges from pale yellow to tan to pale green depending upon the lighting.

We have painted Netsuke in a kitchen, accompanying glass tiles of blues, greens, beiges and tans, in a living/dining room as a backdrop for blue-green upholstery and drapes and most dramatically in a flat sheen for a vaulted entry, living room and stairway ceiling. One of our painters describes Netsuke as beige yellowish greenish depending upon the light.

Tim Tebow Foundation Night to Shine at RMCC in Frederick

A

t Rocky Mountain Christian Church, there are a lot of events to be a part of but few are as uniquely exciting as Night to Shine that happened globally on Friday, February 8th. This is a prom night for people with special needs sponsored by the Tim Tebow Foundation. For three of the five years this event has been around so far, Rocky has hosted at their Frederick Campus. Since 2015, this annual event has grown to accommodate nearly 90,000 people with special needs 14 and older in 49 states and 16 countries. The vision of Night to Shine is to work with churches around the world to provide an unforgettable prom night experience, centered on God’s love for people with special needs.

Leading up to the event hosted by Rocky Mountain Christian Church, the guests had an opportunity to pick out their clothes and accessories for free at the Prom Shop. On the night of the event, guests arrived and walked down the red carpet surrounded by a crowd of people, including students from Frederick High School, cheering them on and as paparazzi took photos of them. Then they ate and danced the night away on a large dance floor accompanied by a DJ, Chick-fil-A cows and volunteers who were their prom dates for the night!

The guests also had options to sing karaoke, play games and hop in the photo booth with props as their parents/ caregivers were treated to options such as massages,

dinner and giveaways. At the end of the event, each guest was crowned King or Queen of the prom just before the 1200 balloons were dropped from the ceiling.

It really is an incredible experience for everyone involved!

To plan and execute such a big event, it takes a lot of hard work and resources from staff, volunteers and sponsors. In December, Rocky went live with their volunteer registration and in only 24 hours, registration was full! People can’t wait to help make this event happen because, even though it is for the guests, the impact on the volunteers is very meaningful. Sarah Carlock, one of the core volunteers leading this event said, “It is a joy to partner with the Tim Tebow Foundation in celebrating those in our midst with special needs. There is no greater experience than seeing the Church and community rally to combine our gifts, resources and talents for the specific purpose of loving and honoring our guests and their caregivers.”

Rocky Mountain Christian Church is proud to be a part of a community that values people with special needs so strongly.

Rocky wants to thank all the people who gave their precious time and all the organizations and businesses that provided things they needed to make Night to Shine so largely successful and inspiring. However, maximizing your exposure in both markets is definitely worth it!

Ft. Lupton Facade Improvement Grant Program FLURA is excited to announce that beginning on January 10, 2019 at 8:00 AM, the grant cycle for the Facade Improvement Grant Program will officially open!

The Fort Lupton Urban Renewal Authority (FLURA) Facade Improvement Program is a competitive grant program meant to encourage property owners and tenants of buildings within eligible portions of Fort Lupton’s historic commercial core to make exterior improvements that will revitalize the area and attract customers to shop, dine and do business in Fort Lupton.

The Facade Improvement Program provides up to a 50% match to projects that are awarded by the FLURA Board. The Grant is to be used for eligible costs of facade improvements as detailed in the Program Guidelines and only to properties located within the designated Facade Improvement Program Area (PDF). Both commercial and residential properties are eligible.

The application deadline is April 1, 2019 at 5 p.m. More information on eligibility and how to apply can be found in the application documents below.

Deborah D. Bobbett, 52, passed away peacefully in her home on Saturday, February 2, 2019, after a year-long battle with cancer.

Deborah (Debbie) was loved by her family, friends, neighbors, and anyone who was lucky enough to meet her. She will be greatly missed.

She loved the outdoors and walked almost every day through the neighborhood park. She loved to fish and drive through the mountains. She loved to drive through back roads and birdwatch.

She always loved to “spot” the eagles.

Debbie is survived by her son, Austin Ramsey (24), her daughter, Ashley Ramsey (21), her Mother, Joyce Bobbett (73), brothers Dennis (55) and Dru (44) Bobbett.

She is also survived by her Grandmother Elaine Buckley (93).

Debbie was preceded in death by her Father, Dennis D. Bobbett, younger brother Harold P. Bobbett, and Grandparents.
