hen Stephanie Morgan, of Frederick, Colo., was diagnosed with stage IV breast cancer, her friend, Rolinda Stotts, of Erie, wanted to do something beyond praying and sending hope. Rolinda visited a friend’s orchid nursery and selected an orchid for Stephanie, hoping that as the blooms opened they would bring hope to Stephanie throughout her rounds of chemotherapy and treatments. The orchid gift inspired Rolinda – whose unique style of Bella Rotta oil paintings are featured in private and public collections around the world – to begin painting orchids. As her gallery grew, so did the collection of orchid stories that others were inspired to share. Rolinda then brought the paintings

homas Maggio can now walk without a cane, for a short time, as he learns to use his prosthetic leg. He has significant pain which dictates how long and how often he can work and wear the leg. He looks forward to when the pain becomes minimal. He says, “I hope the community understands I am working as hard as I can. John, my new service manager is really helping out. He is retired U.S. Army, and everyone says he is great to work with.
We have a solid team here at Hands On Auto Tech, with two techs and my service manager, so I am able to step away and get that time I need to heal.” His kids are very comfortable with the loss of his leg and the new life style. “Sometimes they will pick on me, or play with my wheel chair,” he says. “But they help me when I need it. A Mother’s Take on Mother’s Day: Honoring My Mom and My Step-mom
A
s I think about the moms in my life and their strength and perseverance, I can’t help but think of my Grandma Alt, also. These three women passed on many character traits to me. I am a collection of qualities coming from several sources… and that is good. My step-mother, of forty years, has recently joined the Lord in Heaven, so this will be our first Mother’s Day without her. These women modeled a lot of behaviors; some I accepted as my own and others, I let fall by the wayside. As I ponder the past, I’m realizing how much they are still a part of me. Only my mom is still living, but each woman continues to play a role in my daily life. I am also a step-mom, a mother-inlaw and a grandma. I sure hope, when I am no longer on this earth, I will continue to minister to each person God has allowed into my life. I pray that those younger than I, will remember and utilize the good and right things from me and let go of the traits that have no place in their lives. Each of these three female role models had many things in common: • Empowered • Driven • Work ethic • Love fiercely • Defend loved ones vehemently • Strong-willed but deeply sensitive • May bend but would not break • Brave—like a soldier I do not mean to describe these women as perfect; they were not. Nobody is. In fact, there has been much strife in each of my
from God. mother/daughter relationships. My moms and grandma But there has also been much As I forgive others, I’m gave me important, usable forgiveness. amazed how much tools to navigate my life, I’m learning to see beyond the exterior or bigger my joy becomes; especially when I became a mom. Those tools outward behavior of and how free I am to helped me pick myself people…choosing to not up after divorce. Helped me judge and to let go of the little receive that joy. figure out what I wanted to do things that have big potential to destroy relationships. With the help of The with my life and to follow the Golden Rule. Forgotten Way, I’m understanding how It has taken all three of these women to important it is to let go and forgive others grow me up into the woman I am today. Of all the ways my moms steered me, for not only little things like ingratitude and jealousy. But also, the very big things neither of them could have prepared me for like caring about the girl who caused my the deaths of my children. They supported me, yes, absolutely. But grandma not only daughter’s death. As I forgive others, I’m amazed how offered me Jesus, I also watched her live much bigger my joy becomes; and how free I through the death of her son, my uncle Rocky. And like grandma, I haven’t just am to receive that joy. There is one important thing each of us survived the deaths of two of my children, struggled to attain though and that is self- I’ve lived joyfully to watch my other worth. We were given value, freely, from the children grow to adulthood. And my arms are available for all of my grandchildren. Lord, but it’s been hard to accept. I guess it’s fair to say that many years I see that in so many females in my life; they do not realize how valuable they are ago, Grandma Alt squeezed the love of as human beings. For many reasons, we Jesus into me. And I received that love, continue to allow others to diminish our fully, over the years. I am so thankful for Grandma Lloyd worth and tromp on us like door mats. I am now thinking of several men who allow the who had Grandma Alt. I am so thankful for Grandma Steinbach who had Charlene, my same behaviors against them. People I care about do not fully mom. I am so thankful for Pauline Gefroh understand how important they are nor who had Annette, my step-mom. I know the LORD knew me before He do they comprehend the purpose of their life on earth. How I wish I could help them created the earth and He has purposed understand. I wish I could give a bear hug certain things for me in this life on earth, but like Zoe, my granddaughter or my nephew, God used these wonderful women to help Sam. I want to squeeze into these people, me grow into who I am. I can only pray I will all the love I have for them; love that comes do the same for others in my life.

ost people can’t imagine how this nonagenarian spends his days. This senior citizen isn’t content to just sit still and age quietly. To this day, Jerry Steele lives an active life of accomplishment. On May 16th we honor him for his 90th Birthday, a celebration for Jerry and for those who cherish him deeply. Born in 1929, his family today has grown and is flourishing. Family includes a sister, Ruth, three children, seven grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren! They are in awe of his accomplishments and love him dearly. As his family and many others know, Steele holds an extreme legacy and keeps living it! A child of the Great Depression, he learned carpentry at a young age and became respected as a businessman to many in the community early in life and continues today.
He has reached many goals and achievements throughout his lifetime, including (but again, not limited to) his building of helicopters and of flying aircraft, piloting until 2018 all while becoming a real estate owner and developer.. He has partnered with his son, Steve and son-in-law, Randy, to develop Imperial Storage in Frederick in the Glacier Business Park. He also manages other properties. His hobbies include skiing with his family into his 80’s, crafting/ building mahogany and wood sailboats, all leading up to his national sailboat racing in his class with “Windmills, Lasers and Catalina 22’s”, further progressing to building his own helicopter and single engine experimental aircraft. Whether boating down Lake Powell on the “Big Easy” houseboat, travelling
or attending Silver Sneakers classes at Erie Recreation Center with his companion Barbara, or managing and developing properties, Jerry Steele deserves our honor in celebrating his 90th birthday! The honor, joy, and endless respect for his beautiful and accomplished life and still going strong. We thank you for what you have accomplished, Jerry. The happiest of birthdays to you.

As a Board, we stand in full support of our Weld County Sheriff as we believe this bill is bad law and does a disservice to the true issue needing the attention of state legislatures – mental health. We will be working with other county commissioners from across the state, our sheriff, along with our attorneys, to conduct a thorough legal review of the bill and its constitutionality between now and when it is enacted in Januar y 2020.

n February our boiler stopped working, so we lost both heat and hot water in the house. We called the plumber we had used for years, and two men came out the next afternoon to inspect it. They informed us it would cost more to fix than it was worth, so it should be replaced. Since we have lived there 20 years, we accepted their assessment and asked for an estimate. We were told it would be around $8000.00. Ouch! Three more from that company came the next day and confirmed the first assessment and left us some space heaters to keep our pipes from freezing. When the ‘official bids’ came by email, one was for $10,000.00 and the other nearly $16K! I choked and called another plumber who I had never used. When he came that very afternoon, his first comment on inspecting the boiler was “This is very clean.” (the others had said how rusty it was…) Then he told me that if it were his, he would repair it. I eagerly consented, and the next day he and another helper came and did just that and gave me a bill for $224.00. Wow, what a deal! And that boiler and I have lived happily ever after; it works perfectly.
One moral of the story is to always seek a second opinion on major expenses; not everyone has your best interest in mind. But there is also another. Is there a Biblical application to this homeowner’s tale? Yes, of course there is. Having my boiler repaired for much less cost than was first announced may not be the deal of the century, but I can assure you that having my sins forgiven at NO cost to me certainly qualifies as the deal of the ages! Had I continued to live on in my sinful way of life back in 1970 instead of coming to Jesus for forgiveness I would have assured myself of MUCH HEAT in the afterlife! I would have earned a spot in hells’ lower level due to the greatness of my accumulated sin. When I learned that there was a Savior who offered to totally pay my sin debt, I could not refuse His offer, and gladly surrendered control of my life to Him then and there. In the nearly 50 years since I have had NO regrets about that decision and am convinced that my life has been blessed way beyond my wildest dreams for almost half a century! That’s a great tribute to the One who bailed me out of hell as my

Have You Ever Wondered Why We Display Photos In Our Homes?
O
ne of my majors at university right now is Developmental Psychology with a minor in Marriage and Family Studies. The big push to rebrand and change the name of my 7 year old photography business (and subsequently bring my handsome hubby into the mix) was to combine the purpose of “Marriage and Family” with the photography I was already doing. I was invited to lunch with a friend many years ago when I first started this business. She had just started with a company that sold goods to display photos and she wanted to sell me her new product. And I bought it. Because she shared this study with me: Judy Weiser. a psychologist, art therapist, and author based in Vancouver says, “Photos displayed around the home lets children learn who they are and where they fit. They learn their genealogy and the uniqueness of their own family and its story. When a child sees a family portrait with them included in the photograph they say to themselves: ‘These people have me as part of what they are, that’s why I belong here. This is where I come from.’” How about you? How do you feel when you walk into grandma’s house and she still has that photo of you in the 6th grade, with the crooked smile and frizzy hair, on her wall, hanging proudly for all to see? I’m sure, like me, the embarrassment is only fleeting as you realize you are valuable. You are worthy of display. Someone loves you so much they boast you in their home! Do you boast “your people” in your home? If you’re married you should have plenty of reminders all over the house of your union. If you have kids, grow their self-esteem from the home front by displaying their masterpieces and works of art alongside precious images from all stages. Do you have close friends and extended family you can display? If not, it may be time to do so. Photos around the home communicate so much more than just art. I can help you with that! -Becky Young is a natural rebel with a fiery purpose to see marriages healthy and succeed. Becky owns Twelve Stones Collective, LLC, a photography company in Mead, Colorado committed to giving the rebels and misfits courage and a voice to change their world. 100% profits from every session is used for supporting and healing marriages in Northern Colorado. future destiny and put me on track to land in Heaven one day when my meter expires here on terra firma. So how does this apply to you? In 1 John 1:8 we read “If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves, and the truth is not in us.” Sin is the curse all men have to deal with, and we can face God depending on our own resume’ to get us into His kingdom, and have the uncertainty that goes along with such a choice, or we can put our trust in Christ to save us with confidence that He will. The tough part about going it on our own is that Heaven is a perfectly sinless environment, and any spot on our history will get us rejected. The other option is found in 1 John 1:9 where we read “if we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” The “He” spoken of there is Jesus, and I can assure you from experience that He does not disappoint. In 1 John 5:11-13 there is a summary you need to seriously consider on this matter. It reads “And the witness is this, that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the
Son of God does not have the life. These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, in order that you may KNOW that you have eternal life.” Personally, I have known this for almost 5 decades since I met my Redeemer and Friend, the Lord Jesus Christ. Afterlife worries are a thing of the past for me, NOT based on any goodness of mine, but totally on Jesus’ forgiveness. Make sure YOU get in on this amazing grace while you can still fog a mirror. After you die it will be too late, and you will be stuck with an enormous bill you really don’t want for all of eternity. Jim pastors Abundant Life Church, where it is all about the love. Come check us out some Sunday at 10 am. We meet at 4380 Highway 66 on the south side just east of the Red Rooster restaurant. No cover charge.

Healthy Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture Treatment for the Psoas
O
ne muscle that deserves special attention is the psoas because this is the only muscle that connects our upper and lower body. The psoas (pronounced so as) connects the torso to the legs, with the main attachments located anteriorly at lumbar spine. More specifically, it originates at the twelfth thoracic vertebrae and all five lumbar vertebrae (deep to the belly button and lower abdominal muscles, and behind the intestines) and travels down to attach to the top of the femur (upper leg bone). The action of the psoas is to flex the thigh at the hip and assist in extension of the lumbar spine. In other words, it helps us to stabilize and bend forward and backward from the lower abdomen, take a step forward, and walk up and down stairs. When the psoas is strained, tense or weak, we may feel pain in our lower back, sacrum, lower abdomen, or the front crease of the leg while performing simple movements such as walking or getting up from a chair. Since this muscle is so deep inside the body, treatment of an overstrained psoas muscle must include safe and specific stretching and strengthening exercises. Knowing that the action of the psoas muscle helps us to take a step forward, this easily brings us to thoughts about the emotional aspect of the muscle. Whether
it is a welcome or unwelcome change as we take a step in a new direction such as a new job or relationship, sometimes people experience tension within this muscle. This is also the muscle that quickly contracts as we curl up into a fetal position during an intensely fearful or traumatic event. Muscles will sometimes stay tense long after the event is over. As far as acupuncture is concerned, a muscle this deep is not reachable using acupuncture needles. However, the Stomach channel (all the channels in Chinese medicine are named after organs) follows the path of the psoas major and minor muscles interiorly and exteriorly. With this in mind, we can energetically reach the psoas in order to help balance the system by using the points along the Stomach channel. Since Chinese medicine and acupuncture addresses the whole person physically and emotionally, people find that they receive much more than they thought they would from their acupuncture visits.

Beliefs That Prompt Change
M
any have had the negative emotions of feeling embarrassed, overwhelmed, fed up, frustrated, or felling like you want to give up. These emotions make us feel terrible, but can also be some of the best things to happen to a person. It’s when you can decide right then that you’re done living that way and are ready to make a change. Not just try, but actually commit and take action. Is there something in your life that you want to change? Do you have high blood pressure, want to improve your health and lose weight? What’s keeping you from making a positive change in your life? Professional speaker/author Tony Robbins talks about three beliefs you need to have in order to create lasting change. • Something must change - Do you ‘sort of’ want to improve your health, or do you absolutely have to lose the weight to improve your health? In order to make a lasting change, you must be convinced that the time has come. • I must change it - It’s important that you take full responsibility in making the change. Others can assist you with your goals, but you’re the one who is going to make it happen. No one else will do it for you. • I can change it - You do amazing things when you put your mind to it, so don’t let past failures get in your way. Believe you’re capable of working on and reaching your
fitness goals. How do you make the change? Willpower works for awhile, but you’ll always revert back to what’s comfortable. This leads to changing your thinking of what you’re comfortable with. You’ve most likely heard that people are motivated by two things, to avoid pain and gain pleasure. When you want to change a behavior pattern, the key is to associate pain with the behavior that you don’t want, and pleasure with the behavior that you do want. It’s time to retrain your brain to associate the unhealthy things you’re doing that harm your body as the things that are causing you pain and many health problems. Then, retrain your brain to feel good about exercise, eating real, healthy food, and drinking water. Think about all the wonderful benefits you get when improving your health by doing these things. You are capable of making big changes in your life, and I look forward to being one of the people that come along side you to help you improve your health and meet your fitness goals.

Veterans and Families Deserve Only the Best!
“We
vet and qualify our listeners in the same manner we vet and qualify our resources because we want to provide the best available services to our Veteran Community”, comments Greg Goettsch, Founder and Executive Director of Qualified Listeners. Qualified Listeners, a Veteran support organization in northern Colorado and southeast Wyoming, has received the “Veteran Ready Organization” status from PsychArmor Institute in recognition of their commitment and dedication in supporting Veterans and families through peer listening. To qualify as a listener, candidates are interviewed, complete a background check, and attend a series of trainings. Qualified Listeners recently graduated six new listeners, and more are needed. Listener volunteers are not all Veterans, they are also a Veteran spouse, family member, caregiver, or advocate. Qualified Listeners has completed over 300 listening sessions since January 2018 for Veterans of all ages and Military era, including Veteran spouses and family members. The sessions have helped Veterans change careers, solve major transportation problems, acquire a consistent food source, stop wasting money on unnecessary insurance policies, home modifications due to limited mobility, assisted widows in obtaining Military funeral services for their husbands, helped Veterans obtain VA services, connect people to appropriate behavioral health professionals, helped Veterans and families process end of life, arrange for spouses to receive caregiver compensation, and helped Veterans reduce the cost of monthly medications by 80%.

She covered: Self-care – how to care for yourself and not be a “super-person”, who puts their needs last. It’s important to know your resources and use them. Don’t wait till your exhausted! Planning for the future –Know your community resources. Go to events like this. Make your wishes known to loved ones and family members. Educate yourself - Know what resources are out there. Create a binder with your resources. Investigate now instead of later when you are in a crisis. Get support - Don’t’ try to give care on your own. Ask for help! Advance directives – telling your family what you want if you are unable to make decisions for yourself isn’t enough. Everyone over 18 should fill out their advance directives. Keep a copy in your glove box. Give to family members and keep your original in a safe place with your will, etc. If you don’t have Advance Directives, any interested party can make decisions about your health care and that can get messy, especially if you haven’t told them your wishes.
Know your options for care – What does Medicare cover? What services are not covered by Medicare? How much does home care cost? What does Medicaid cover? Put all of this in your resource binder. Legal and financial affairs – Make sure you have a Durable Power of Attorney to help you manage your finances if you are unable to do so or you need help with finance as you age. If you need an attorney, go to an Elder Attorney, not someone who practices a different type of law. Family – Families can be supportive and they can be messy. Give family members jobs that they can do well. You decide who you want to have helping you. It’s ok to set boundaries. Palliative and Hospice Care – What are the differences? Palliative care is for someone who is very ill and needs more supportive services that can be provided by a team of professionals alongside your Primary Care doctor. People are not dying but they are very ill. Hospice is supportive, in-home services for someone who has a 6 month terminal diagnosis. Hospice is paid for by Medicare. Many people wait too long to get the support that hospice can give them. Hospice helps manage pain, supports the caregiver and family members and enables you to remain in your home. Thanks to all the sponsors and organizations who attended this informative event. If you are interested in more helpful information, the Annual Caregiver Symposium will be held at the Jewish Community Center in Boulder on May 22,. There will be many presentations and resources there to help older adults. Please rsvp to reserve a space now. Planning for a Special Vacation: Such as Tuscany
A
s I am planning my long-awaited vacation to Tuscany, several issues come to mind. One is definitely doing the research so we can fully enjoy our vacation and the other is preparing for our trip. Some things I am considering are: • Safety • Health • True enjoyment The first thing I considered is that more and more countries are requiring tourists to purchase travel insurance. As tourism grows everywhere, so also is the rising cost of hospitalization and medical care. This is a large expense for many countries who have had to cover the costs for vacationers who required healthcare services while visiting their country. Of course, determining factors and requirements vary by country: from all visitors to limited requirements for students and expats. There are some tour operators that don’t offer travel insurance but require proof of coverage before you travel with them. I always get travel insurance and suggest my clients also consider it. If you are traveling internationally, your insurance here may not cover you while you are abroad. Make sure you ask your insurance carrier. For Safety: Always consider safety and theft. Try not look like a tourist when traveling. Not only the way you dress but how you act. Leave the “Bling” at home. Pickpockets are everywhere. Carry a second wallet that’s filled with just enough to make them think it’s your real wallet or
purse. Men can put a rubber band around their wallet to make it harder to slip out of their pockets. Please, please don’t flash your cash while you’re paying for things. Before you leave your hotel or cruise ship, take just what you may think you will spend or carry some of the cash in a separate location. Uber and Lyft are great but ALWAYS research the App regarding car and driver prior to getting into the car. I was just at a Mexico seminar and they advised to take a taxi that’s licensed in Mexico. There are some unsavory characters everywhere in the world as we know. For Health: On the plane, try to stay hydrated with water. Alcohol dehydrates you. Sitting for long periods can boost your risk of leg cramps or even blood clots. I always take antiseptic wipes and wipe down my tray and arm rests. Try not to put anything in the seat pocket (never know what’s in that!) Use your own pillow and blanket too. For Enjoyment: Research your destination and ask your travel consultant for suggestions and tips on how to expand your knowledge and experiences of your vacation. Check out YouTube videos from those who have already traveled to where you are going. You can enjoy every single moment, from planning, to the trip itself and after, the memories you have created.

O
n April 27th the FHS Booster Club hosted the 2019 After Prom. With the help of many parent volunteers, reliable business sponsors and generous donors, over 350 students were kept safe and treated to a memorable night of fun. The FHS Student Council hosted the 2019 Prom at the Denver Aquarium. When the students returned home to the tritown area they changed into comfy clothes and walked into a school transformed into a unique “Under the Sea” event. The gyms and commons were filled with giant inflatables, carnival games, poker tables, and oversized board games. With the Help of major sponsors like Crestone Peak Resources, Tri-Town Lions Club and St.Vrain Block, the After Prom was FREE for all Juniors, Seniors and their dates (even if they didn’t attend Prom). Additionally, the students received unlimited prints from the photo booth, free caricature drawings, and henna tattoos. There was plenty of food donated in part by Black Jack Pizza, Daylight Donuts, the Larkridge Chick-fil-A, Mahnke Auto Parts, and FHS Parents. The DJ played all night and there were quiet areas complete with couches and recliners loaned from Rent-ACenter in Longmont and a fun area with play dough and space foam for the kids to be kids! The end of the night prize drawing is always a highlight for the students.

Real Estate Future Looking Very Good
N
ow is the time to set up your realestate future. I see the eye rolls now, you hear everyone at work saying how expensive the housing prices are, your doom in gloom neighbor tells you the crash is emanate etc. etc. The reality is the economic conditions in Colorado have never been stronger, our economy has grown and continues to grow, not just is size but in diversity of industry insulating it against many specific economic factors that affect specific industries. Residential building continues to grow at a very healthy pace, finally allowing supply to start to meet demand. What this all means is that there will not continue to be run away increased in residential prices, the market is evening out to a health level of inflation. For those entering the market or contemplating moving to a property that will better fit their needs this is as good as it gets, interest rates have taken an unexpected turn down to near historic lows, thirty year fixed rates are below %4 and fifteen year fixed rates are near %3.5 along with a stable market there will not be a better period of affordability in the foreseeable future. For those who have tons of equity in properties it may be time
to evaluate and diversify that equity in more or different properties. Residential real-estate has been a great investment in Colorado for a while now, its been so great that many people became disillusioned with the process. They were not able to find the home they wanted and if they did the process was ridiculously competitive, multiple offers and cash over appraisals and the heart break of rejection. Now this is still a robust market, but inventory has risen significantly and there is choice and opportunity in all price ranges. Ask yourself are you in a property that fits what your future looks like. Do you need to purchase a first home to start building equity and secure your families lifestyle? Is your current home where you want to be in five, ten or even twenty years? Is your real-estate investment portfolio preforming? This is the time ask these questions and to set up for the future, don’t miss it.

Kiddie Condos
H
igh school graduation is nearing and you may have a child heading off to college this fall. As we know, college is an expensive proposition, with tuition, books and housing. If you, plan to help out your child with the expense of higher education, an often-overlooked way to do so is through housing. A “kiddie condo” can be a way not only to help with the housing, but it can be a good long-term investment for you as well. The property doesn’t have to be a condo but could be a single-family home or duplex as well. The idea is for you to purchase an investment (rental) property in the area of the college to house (or rent to) your child while he or she is in college, rather than to be paying rent to someone else. The purchase can be made outright, or if you have existing investment property, you could do a 1031 Exchange to get the property near the college. A 1031 Exchange is a way to defer the capital gains on a sale of an investment property by replacing it with another investment property. When one of my daughters was getting ready to go off to college, I acquired a condo in the area of the school. Since she was strongly encouraged to live on campus the first year, I hired a local property manager to rent out the property for the first year. Then during her 2nd year, she moved in along with a roommate that paid me rent. After she graduated, I had the management company rent the condo out and still have it as an investment property today. Having a rental unit in an area near a college is good as there is typically a good demand for rentals, regardless of the ups and downs of the economy. Talk to your Realtor to get some ideas of properties and price ranges. If the school is far away, they can get you in touch with a Realtor in that area to assist you. REMAX Nexus Welcomes Kristen Nielsen
R
EMAX Nexus continues to grow with the recent addition of Realtor Kristen Nielsen, who lives in the Todd Creek area of Brighton and specializes in helping clients buy and sell homes in the north Metro area. With a BA in Human Services and an MA in Social Work, Kristen applies her education and training to build positive relationships with her clients. “I like helping others negotiate the complexities of the Real Estate world,” Nielsen comments. “My training has me well prepared to listen to my clients and to make Real Estate transactions as stress free as possible. As the mother of toddlers, age 3 and 4, Kristen manages to juggle the needs of her family and clients at once. “My enthusiasm for real estate and my focus on detail serve me well in meeting the demands of my family and my clients,” says Nielsen. A Colorado native, she has lived in various places in the country, but now enjoys close relationships with extended family who also now call Colorado home. While, at least for now, Kristen’s roles as wife, mother and Realtor leave little time for hobbies and extracurricular activities for her and her family. Her faith is important to her and she and her husband are active in Flatirons Church in Lafayette. We are so very thrilled to have Kristen join our office! Her hard working, caring and detailed oriented sales approach is an amazing addition to our office and will offer the highest quality real estate service to her clients and our group!

FINANCIAL FOCUS Time for Some Financial Spring Cleaning
S
pring is here – and for many of us, that means it’s time for some spring cleaning. This year, in addition to tidying up your home, why not try brightening your financial environment? Some of the same moves you make to clean your surroundings may apply to your finances. Consider these suggestions: • Get rid of clutter. When you go through your closets, attic, basement or other areas, you may find many items you no longer need. You might be able to sell some of these things or find other ways of disposing of them. And as you review your portfolio, you might also encounter “clutter” in the form of investments that may be redundant to others you own. If so, you might consider selling these investments and using the proceeds to purchase new ones, which may help you broaden your portfolio. • Protect yourself from hazards. As you go about your spring cleaning, you may well encounter hazardous substances, such as cleaning agents, paints, batteries, pesticides and so on, which you don’t need anymore and which may pose potential health risks. You can reduce the possible danger from these materials by recycling or disposing of them in an environmentally safe way. Your overall financial situation has hazards, too, in the form of illness or injury preventing you from working, or, in your later years, the need for some type of long-term care, such as an extended stay in a nursing home. To protect yourself, you may need appropriate insurance, including disability and long-term care. • Find new uses for existing possessions. When you are sprucing up your home, you may rediscover uses for things you already have. Who knows – perhaps that treadmill that’s been gathering dust in your garage could actually be employed again as part of your rededicated exercise regimen. And you might be able to get more mileage out of some of your existing investments, too. Suppose, for instance, that some of your stocks are paying you dividends, which you take as cash. If you don’t really need this income to support your lifestyle, you might consider reinvesting the dividends so that you can own more shares of the dividend-paying stocks. Over the long run, increased share ownership is a key to helping build your portfolio. • Establish new habits. Spring cleaning doesn’t have to be just about physical activities – it can also involve a new set of habits on your part. For example, instead of placing your unread magazines in an ever-expanding pile, try to read and recycle them

quickly. You can also develop some positive habits as an investor, such as “paying yourself first” by regularly putting some money in an investment account each month, even before paying all your bills. You can also avoid some bad habits, such as overreacting to market downturns by selling investments to “cut your losses,” even though those same investments may still have strong growth potential and may still be suitable for your needs. Doing some spring cleaning can make you feel better about your living space today. And applying some of these techniques to your financial situation can help you gain a more positive outlook for tomorrow. Paint to Sell!
W
e recently repainted the interior of a new home a beautiful shade of gray, the third home we have painted in a neutral gray in as many weeks. Soon we will start another project where the owner wants the main and upper level walls painted Agreeable Gray, a popular light neutral from Sherwin-Williams. These four repaints were all new purchases and were all freshly painted before they were listed. Most interesting is that two of these homes we painted for the previous owners prior to them placing their homes on the market. The first we painted in beige and the other all in off-white. So, we ask, what colors sell homes? Neutrals of course. There is plenty of research out there regarding specifics. The trend of pale yellow kitchens bringing higher prices shifted to blue and then again
to blue-grays. In some areas, yellow is now said to lower a home’s value. For bedrooms pale blues, beiges and warm grays are also recommended. The same is true for exteriors. Try to keep it neutral and in line with the style of your home and those in your neighborhood. If you have an HOA, they probably have a list of options for you. A few options from Sherwin-Williams: Accessible Beige SW7036, Naturel SW2080 or Kilim Beige SW6106. Warm grays are Agreeable Gray SW7029 and Worldly Gray SW7043. If you think you need to go with a cool gray, try Gray Screen SW7071 or Software SW7074 which has definite blue undertones. Can’t decide to go gray or beige? Try a Greige, which is just as it sounds, Gray and Beige mixed. Take a look at Windsor Greige SW7528 or Perfect Greige SW6073. Most important, check with your local real estate agent. Realtors know what sells in your area.

Please Read, Important Information!
April 19, 2019 Dear Residents and Business Owners: In November 2018, our citizens rejected both proposals made by the Fire District to maintain and enhance emergency services provided to you and your families. Unfortunately, the need did not go away and we still have some big gaps to overcome, now and in the future. Over the next couple of months, the Fire District will be gathering input and listening to community members and leaders to answer some important questions: 1) Why did citizens reject the Fire District’s proposals? 2) How can we communicate with our citizens more effectively about the Fire District’s needs? 3) How can the Fire District meet the expectations of our citizens with our current budget? Frederick-Firestone Fire Protection District (FFFD) serves more than 34,000 residents and is growing year over year. Growth within the District is projected to continue at a staggering 5-7% per year. Your Fire District provides 24-hour/365 days a year community risk reduction service to an area covering roughly 36 square miles and growing. Emergency calls for service are increasing as a result of the significant population growth. Nearly 79% of our requests for emergency services last year were related to medical situations: citizens needing an ambulance with immediate medical care needs. We also responded to residential, commercial, wildland, and vehicle fires, hazardous materials emergencies, specialized rescues and emergency management for large scale incidents, such as the 2013 Flood that devasted the Carbon Valley Area. We are committed to providing the highest quality services to our community, but our growing community is in need of more firefighters, paramedics, fire trucks, ambulances, and new fire stations in your neighborhoods to serve you effectively.
Colorado Christian Writers Conference May 15-18, 2019 Twenty-third year! Whether you write fiction or nonfiction, for children or adults, CCWC will equip you to write about a God who is real, who is reachable, and who changes lives.
• • • • •
To ensure our community’s safety, we need to immediately fill the vacant firefighter and paramedic positions. To reverse the trend of increasing response times, we need 2 to 3 additional fire stations in the next 10-15 years. Our aging fleet of fire trucks and ambulances needs to be updated or replaced. New fire stations will require the purchase of additional fire trucks and ambulances. The District will need to hire more firefighters and paramedics to staff new fire stations, to ensure quick response and arrival times to your emergency.
FFFD is considering placing a new funding proposal on the November 2019 ballot to address the highest priority needs of our community. The Fire District is initiating a community survey in the following weeks. Survey responses will be solicited through our social media outlets, the Fire District website, other digitized avenues or you may type in the link below or quickly scan the QR Code with your mobile device. We kindly request you and your loved ones take approximately five minutes to complete this survey. Your input and willingness to share your thoughts and expectations are most important to us. You have entrusted the Fire District with the safety of your family. We want to make sure we are listening to the important feedback you have for us. A final decision on placing measures on the ballot in November 2019 will be made by our Board of Directors this August. Sincerely yours in service,
Jeremy A. Young EFO, CFO Fire Chief

Betty Bea Lucas
Burial, Cremation, Celebration's of Life and Receptions
January 2, 1935 – March 25, 2019
Betty Bea Lucas, 84, of Dacono, CO passed away after a long illness on March 25, 2019 in Louisville, CO. She was born January 2, 1935 in Wheatland, WY and moved with her family to Laramie, WY as a young child. Betty studied Business at the University of Wyoming. Before retiring from public service, Betty was the executive assistant to the Colorado Insurance Commissioner for 28 years. She had many lifelong friends, but most loved her pets, who were the most spoiled and pampered creatures on earth. Betty enjoyed sewing, working in her flower beds, and spending time with family and friends. She never met a stranger, and her gentle spirit, ready smile, and dry sense of humor will be missed by all who knew her. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Martha Lucas of Laramie, WY; and three brothers: Jay Nelson of Casper, WY, Gene Nelson of Florida, and Dale Lucas of Dacono, CO. She is survived by nieces and nephews in Colorado, California, and Wyoming. No services will be held at Betty’s request. There will be cremation, and her final resting place will be the family plot in Wheatland, WY. Memorial contributions may be made to Cat Care Society in Lakewood, CO. Tee Up Fore Hope To Support Local Grief Care
H
ave you experienced the death of a loved one? Loss is painful. The grieving process often involves many difficult and complicated emotions. Sorting through all of the emotions while learning to adjust to life without a loved one can make it difficult for one to handle on their own. Richard Lambert Foundation provides comprehensive grief support, serving children and adults in our community experiencing the death of a loved one. Our programs and services provide ways for people to share, heal and grow in times of loss. RLF programs will help the bereaved navigate through those emotions and find their way to hope and to purposely live again. Grief is a lifelong process and everyone should have access to grief care and support. Richard Lambert Foundation was founded by Jaime and Susan Chavez after the death of their son in 2012. The Chavez’s found there was a great need for affordable and accessible grief support in communities. The Grief Center has since provided grief support to 534 individuals living with loss. Our annual Golf Tournament is a fun day with prizes, friendly competition, lunch, and this year an opportunity to win a 24 month lease on a 2019 Land Rover Discovery SE Sport made possible by our friend at Land Rover Flatirons. You can help bring hope after loss by participating in Richard Lambert Foundation’s 2nd Annual Golf Charity Classic on June 14, 2019. Proceeds from this event will provide free grief support programs and services to local children, adults, and families. For more information about Richard Lambert Foundation, sponsorship opportunities or the Golf Tournament call 720-408-8417 or visit our website at www. richardlambertfoundation.org/golf-tournament

Chris Signer, Frederick Fire Fighter Needs Our Help
C
hris Signer Frederick Fire Fighter, is in need of a “Helping Hand”. We have contacted the family, and they are willing to let Brendan Memorial help support their needs during this difficult time. 100% of the May 18 event will now benefit the Signer family. I am attaching a new image for the event as well as Chris story. The photo is the photo that Chris’s wife has provided for media us. She directed us to use information provided by the GoFundMe account for Chris is medical issues. Here are all the links: Chris GoFundMe: https://www.gofundme.com/chris-signer-campaign Registration for Car/Bike Show $10 http://brendanmemorial.org/bike-car-show/ Registration for Scenic Motorcycle Ride $10: http://brendanmemorial.org/spring-kick-offregistration/
Additional, Echo Brewing Company will also be releasing a new beer two days before the event. At the beer release party May 16, a portion of the beer proceeds will be donated to the Signer family. GoFundMe Story: Chris & Virginia Signer would greatly appreciate your help! Chris is currently a firefighter in Frederick, Colorado. On Monday, 3/25, Chris went to a routine check-up only to find out that he needed to go to the hospital immediately. Following a few different tests and visiting with a cardiologist, Chris was informed that he needed immediate open heart surgery to replace a valve. Chris’ cardiologist shared that it will take a full 3 months to recover before he will be back to normal. On Tuesday, he was informed that they found a cancerous tumor on his kidney following a CT scan. Chris and Virginia need our help over the next few months to help cover medical costs, living expenses, and any other unforeseen costs associated with his recovery. Chris and Virginia are newly-weds, as well as new homeowners, now faced with the costs of a procedure and a diagnosis that was very unexpected. While he may have a long road to recovery, Chris is going to take these challenges head on with all of our support and encouragement. Any donation of any kind would be greatly appreciated. All donations will go directly towards Chris’ medical costs, along with providing support for his family while he is temporarily out of work. Thank you for your help!
