There’s turmoil in America and a lack of security from our government. Around the world there are wars, death, and destruction. Our hearts fill with fear. Peace of mind has disappeared. ### A six-year-old girl has a sore on her leg. Thinking it’s a bug bite, her parents put ointment on it and forget about it. But the sore grows. Swelling, it’s hot and painful. Daddy and daughter drive to the emergency room. Scared, the young girl cries while clinging to her daddy’s hand. He carries her into the ER and explains the situation to the nurse. The doctor immediately identifies the sore as a boil. “It needs to be lanced,” the doctor said. Sitting on a gurney, tears flow down the child’s face. Medical staff prepare a sterile table with scalpels, gauze, needles and thread, and a large syringe filled with Lidocaine. Rolling the table to the bedside, the nurse pats the mattress. “Lay down, sweetie,” the nurse said. At that moment the little girl develops the strength of ten men. Nurses are called to help hold her down. “Dad,” the doctor said as he motions with his eyes and head toward the daughter. Terror comes over the child’s face as her daddy bends his body over hers. As gently but tightly as possible, daddy presses into his daughter, face-to-face, eyes locked on each other. Tears spill from dad, mixing with hers. “It’s going to be

alright,” daddy said. She can’t hear him through her fear and weeping. * Sometimes a loving Father must use intense pressure to protect His child…to get His suffering children moving toward the destination. ### The catastrophic attack on civilians in Israel by terrorists has affected countries around the globe. Just like 9/11, it caught us off guard. Shock, anger, fear, sorrow, and vengeance, hold us in a confusing, strangling grip. Reports, from everywhere, state the same question, “Is this the end times?” What if it is? Are you prepared? How does one prepare for the end? Multiple wars going on now, devastating fires, earthquakes…we can’t blame everything on climate problems. What if it’s the Creator striving to get our attention? America is the largest user of pornography and human trafficking. We tolerate all forms of sexuality and sexual perversions. We’re a country that says it’s acceptable to abort babies for whatever reason. Today, America is no different than Sodom and Gomorrah thousands of years ago. Those cities were wiped off the face of the earth. Another time there was a worldwide flood. God hates what humans do to humans. He is merciful by warning us. Many people hate the words sin and repentance. Sin means missing the mark, the bullseye, disregarding the best that God has for us. Repentance means changing direction, a 180, and transforming the way we think about things. We must heed the warnings.

Read the book of Jonah in the Bible (Remember the guy swallowed by a big fish?) It’s interesting, short, and describes God’s love and mercy for all mankind. 2. Watch The Chosen. It’s a fantastic TV show introducing Jesus and some of the other people in the Bible. On your phone, download the app, Angel Studios or go to www.angel.com and click on watch and The Chosen. 3. Find a church. There’s a list of some area churches on page 3. Sometimes you need to visit several before you feel settled, at peace. 4. Pray. It’s simply conversing with the Lord. No rules or special words. Just talk to the One who loves you more than anybody else on this earth. Our hope and the need for peace comes from Jesus. He is the Truth and He is the Kingdom of God. With Him, our suffering is never in vain, we are never alone, and we will receive the promise of eternal life. The Lord can’t, will never, break His promises. With Jesus, we can face the global events that are coming.

Three Guiding Principles as We Help Others Age Well Most of my time spent helping older adults to find the right senior living community is spent with their adult children. Recently, I spent time with a local clinical psychologist that specialized in older adults. Here are her 3 Guiding Principles to look to as one traverses the road of aging. 1. There will always be a common tension of striking a balance between autonomy and safety. Families want to see their loved ones safe, but sometimes it comes at too high a cost. People can be “safe” but miserable. Be mindful of the balance, and strive to help independence to remain at the forefront. 2. Aging is an ever-evolving process. Our health status, financial status, emotional needs, etc. are always evolving. It’s important to be able to locate where one is on any given continuum so as to anticipate emerging needs. 3. Aging is a team sport. No one can do it alone and it is good to build a team of professional and personal mates to help along the way. The biggest challenge I witness is

an unwillingness on behalf of both older adults and their children to talk about the future. There is often fear and anxiety around the unknown and we may feel that avoiding the conversation will keep aging and age-related challenges at bay. I can assure you that just the opposite will happen when you lovingly and thoughtfully take that first step into intentionally talking about the plan for aging. Connecting on a deeper level with your loved ones, openly listening to other’s fears and apprehensions can make you feel closer and more connected. Plans are useless, but planning is essential. It is a reminder to give thanks for the many blessings in our lives and the remarkable community we are fortunate to call home. z Throughout the year, I have witnessed the incredible spirit of community. Neighbors helping neighbors, residents volunteering their time, local businesses contributing to our Town’s well-being, and the unwavering dedication of our staff and Board members have all played a role in making the Town of Frederick a warm, welcoming community!

z Responsible Growth: Mead continues to work with the Colorado Department of Transportation on the I-25 segment five expansion. Crews have started stockpiling dirt on the east side of I-25 just north of County Road 38 for future construction usage. The project will deliver interstate upgrades that support the rapidly expanding communities along the corridor by bringing important safety and mobility enhancements that will benefit

z Hello fellow residents. We are now into the roller coaster that is fall. Time to get those sprinklers winterized.

z Building a community on What Matters does not stop here. The Board’s commitment to enhancing our town extends to sustainability. One of the key focus areas of the Town’s 2022-2023 Strategic Plan is “Strategic, Reliable & Sustainable Infrastructure.” This emphasizes aligning our facility’s Master Planning with the growth needs of the town. And we’re narrowing that gap - Over the last two years, a detailed needs analysis and an in-depth space requirement analysis were completed for a new Public Works facility that will effectively serve our town for the next 50 years. Yes, that means leveling up with sufficient office, meeting, and storage space to substantially improve services important to our community, like asphalt patching and snow control. This year a firm was hired to evaluate sites that would accommodate such a facility. This resulted in the selection of 7400 Eagle Blvd. Stay tuned as those details unfold! frederickco.gov/FacilityPlanning z Speaking of snow control, we’ve heard you and are pleased to roll out our enhanced snow and ice control plan. the economy, environment, and our quality of life. z Reliable Infrastructure: Construction documents for the new Community Center are nearing completion. The final design features an 11,000-square-foot building with a full-sized cross-court gymnasium for volleyball and basketball, a multipurpose/programming room, storage rooms, a lobby/reception, and staff offices. Site development also includes paving of the alley, curbs, sidewalks, outdoor space, and parking lots. Construction is expected to begin in 2024. z Public Safety: The Colorado Department of Transportation will begin improvements at two of Mead’s major intersections on Highway 66. The traffic signal systems at both intersections will be replaced, and work at WCR 7 will also consist of adding a northbound left turn lane and overlaying the entire intersection. The project is expected to conclude in March 2024. z Fiscal Stability: CliftonLarsonAllen, LLP finalized Mead’s

2022 financial audit. As a statutory town, Mead must be audited annually and submit financial reports to the Office of the State Auditor. The Local Government Audit Division tracks about 4,000 Colorado local governments for compliance. Independent auditing keeps local governments transparent and accountable to their community. z Connected Community: Christmas in the Park is December 2 from 1-6 p.m. at Mead Town Park! The holiday festival will feature family activities, carolers, food vendors, a Parade of Lights, and a treelighting ceremony. Don’t forget to check out the tree drawing from the Mead Area Chamber of Commerce from 1-4:30 p.m. Winners will be announced after Tree Lighting and must be present to claim the prize. z I have some welcome news for commuters using Firestone Blvd and I-25 intersection. The town has decided to take it on the planning and engineering of improvements to the section of Firestone Blvd between the east Frontage Road and the northbound entrance/ exit. This will include a new lane for the entrance to the northbound entrance as well as extending the left turn lane for southbound back to the east bound Frontage Road. This will greatly improve the traffic delays many have faced at this intersection. Also a second eastbound left turn lane and improvements to the northbound heading east. Some

may ask why CDOT isn’t doing this. That is a good question however, CDOT has a long list of projects across the state and I’m sure priority on this is not high on the list. The town will work to get funding from the state, the town has funds in the urban renewal that can cover this project. So now new debt or taxes. z The CDOT Bustang project is moving along well and in the coming months bus service to Denver will be available. z Hope everyone has a fantastic thanksgiving. z Drew Peterson, Mayor of Firestone Colorado

Health&WELL BEING Alternative Medicine: Ooh Ooh That Smell In 2018 I read a paper from NOAA about the impact of everyday household products upon air quality, here is an excerpt: “This study confirmed that contributions from household chemicals are now equal to that of transportation and oil and gas emissions. Even though we use almost 15 times more fuel than household products, chemicals in lotions and other everyday items are contributing just as much to air quality problems, indicating a clear need for further assessment and advancement in manufacturing.” The information hit me in the face and made my eyes burn just as much as walking near the cleaning supply aisle at the grocery store. The importance of omitting fragrance from household and personal products doesn’t end with air pollution, but also impacts health as well. For example, more and more men and women have come into the office with concerns about either increased or decreased hormonal levels. While there are various reasons for hormonal fluctuation, fragrance is one of the dysregulating factors. This article features excerpts from just two papers and offers a site to check the safety of household and personal products. The findings revealed that, contrary to prior EPA estimates, household chemicals are significant part of estimating VOC contributions. Previously, agencies had estimated that fuels produced about 75% of VOC emissions while household products contributed about 25%. The true split is about 50-50 according to the study. In the past, air quality management has prioritized controlling transportation and industrial emissions rather than the use of everyday products. While everyday products are subject to regulations, many important air quality statutes and compliance measures focused other things. Jessica Gilman, a CIRES scientist working alongside McDonald at CSD, explained that the storage and usage of gasoline compared to common solvents are very different. While gasoline is stored in closed containers and burned for energy, household products are designed to evaporate, which explains why these daily use chemicals are contributing more and more to pollution. It’s not just what these products are made of, it’s also how they are used, transported, and designed. In addition to air pollution and ozone wreckage, these unnecessary fragrance additives negatively impact the health of living organisms, especially the respiratory and endocrine systems. Why is the endocrine system important ? It regulates hormonal activity. This topic is extensively researched. Here is another paper : “The present review aims to critically call attention to odorant VOCs, particularly synthetic fragrances and associated formula components of PCHPs, potentially impacting indoor air quality and negatively affecting human health.” https://www.mdpi.com/2039-4713/13/1/10 Worthy of note, VOCs, in the form of compressed aerosols, which are propellants of personal care and household products (PCHPs) like air fresheners, colognes, and perfumes, body and hair sprays, cleaners, among others, accounted for astonished global emissions of over 1 Tg per year in 2018 and could surpass 2 Tg per year in 2050, representing a negative impact on the atmosphere and human health [7]. With this information in mind, I’ve wondered why fragrance hasn’t been protested and banned. Maybe this is why… Apart from the pharmaceutical ingredients, the fragrance industry is a multi-billionaire market providing materials for personal care and household products. Regarding the global perfume market exclusively, the projected growth of over 43 billion U.S. dollars was expected by 2028, with a compound annual growth rate of 5.0% in 2021–2028 [57]. Again, there are many factors impacting health, for example it is well known that certain hormones fluctuate when there is chronic pain, and elevate to help the immune system do its job. However, in order to rule out fragrance from the causative mix, eliminating fragrance from the home is an easy place to begin if anyone experiences chronic skin rashes, respiratory conditions, digestive and immune system disturbances, headaches and migraines, and endocrine system disruption - to name a few. HH is the Latest Scam to End Tabor With ballots now in hand for the 2023 election I wanted to take a quick moment to ask my fellow taxpayers to join me in voting against Proposition HH. Big government Democrats, and even some establishment Republicans are trying to circumvent TABOR, which is nothing new. But HH takes it to a whole new level—eliminating TABOR refunds forever. Realtor’s Real Work Begins With The Sales Contract Much of the work your Realtor does to accomplish the purchase or sale of your property is “behind the scenes.” A Realtor may look calm like a duck on a pond, but underneath they are working hard to keep everything going forward. After an offer has been accepted on a property, the real work begins. Title insurance is ordered to show what items need to be addressed in order to transfer clear title to the buyer, as well as to reveal any restrictions or easements that affect the property. Copies of these documents may be required and they must be delivered in accordance with the contract terms. The same goes for the HOA information, if that applies. In most contracts, the buyer has an opportunity to perform physical inspections of the property. These must be coordinated by the Realtor, as well as any follow up questions or negotiations. The inspection is the most common reason that a contract terminates, so having an experienced Realtor on your side is critical. In addition, property insurance and any home warranty policies must be taken care of. The loan process is an ongoing and often very time-consuming process for both the buyer and the Realtor. The appraisal, survey, verifications and other items need to be addressed during the process. Appraisals can be a cause of anxiety in today’s market because of increasing values over the past few years. The Realtor tries to provide the best information possible about current sales, so that the appraiser can do the best job possible. The survey (or ILC) may get done right before closing and is typically not a problem on most newer properties. However, an encroachment or a variation in the property size can be a major problem for the lender and buyer. Steps must then be taken to resolve the concern prior to closing. If a property is on well and septic, the Realtor must gather additional information to make sure the proper permits have been issued and take care of the transfer of ownership. There may be testing required to make sure the well and septic systems are up to standards. Sometimes the property or buyer involved does not fit perfectly with the lender’s ideal criteria, so further explanation and information must be gathered. If problems are not solved in a timely manner, there can be delays or even a termination of the contract. Finally, the closing must be coordinated. This entails much more than just setting a time at which the buyer, seller, Realtors, title company and lender can all agree to meet or sign remotely. If the loan approval comes in at the last minute and the closing is at the end of the month, it can be a real juggling act. Often last minute documentation must be obtained or change accommodated. After all of this work, time, worry, effort, frustration and follow-up, there is usually a successful closing. Most Realtors are problem solvers at heart, and they get to put this skill to work on most transactions.
