It's a Dog's World: Fost-Adopt Fundraiser at Wild Cider By Cherie Elaine
S
ome say diamonds are a girl’s best friend. Not if you ask the founders of All Points West German Shorthair Pointer Rescue. Five women and 18 dogs agree that “man’s best friend” is also woman’s. In September of 2016, three women, Gail Wise, Anna Ahrens and Janet Lewis, pooled their resources after a devastating rescue experience to form one of their own. Co-founders and sporting dog enthusiasts, their shared passion turned into a successful non-profit organization. Adding two more board members, Sheila Lynn and Emily Ross, the members of the board are five women strong, placing 29 dogs in permanent homes in the last year. Typically, German Shorthairs are great hunting companions. They are, after
all, pointers. Not all of the dogs came to these five families for sporting, but all 18 sporting dogs came to be part of these five families. They are unique animals and for the most part, great with kids, grandkids, other dogs, and of course, the male partners in the household. More than board members, these women have become matchmakers. Finding the right home for the dogs they bring in is often difficult. Dogs come from all over the United States, so they have to arrange transports, veterinary caregivers, and foster homes. Utilizing their many talents, these women come together to make sure all of the details are secured and the qualifications met. German Shorthair Pointers are especially enthusiastic sporting dogs. They are full of personality and energy. And they are CUTE. Often people adopt or purchase them because of these three attributes before really understanding what they are getting into. Sadly this can result in illness, abuse and abandonment. One of the most heart-breaking parts of the work All Points West faces is the fear they are not reaching animals soon enough. Equally as hard is finding foster homes for the dogs as they come

in. It takes a village and All Points West GSP Rescue is building one. The extraordinary willingness of volunteer associates to take in a homeless dog has been rewarding. Some dogs have been blessed by the patience, love and training of their fosters before being adopted. Some have found their permanent homes with their foster families. Unfortunately, the need for foster homes, adoptive families and financial support is always looming. That’s why All Points West GSP Rescue invites you to attend GSPs Gone Wild at Firestone’s own Wild Cider on October 22, 2017. Join them from noon until 4:00 at 11455 County Road 17, Firestone, Colorado 80504. Meet some of the shorthairs, or bring your own along and sip some local wild cider! A memorial glass filled with first cider, a slice of wood fried pizza and three raffle tickets are yours

for just $40. Prizes range from GSP themed keychains to movie night baskets. Most importantly, your contribution will help place homeless dogs in homes again, and restore their faith in the humans who care about them. Visit https://www.allpointswestgsp. org to find out more! What’s On My Mind
Kelly Martindale, Publisher
The Power of Words
I
n the book The Five Love Languages, by Gary Chapman, are descriptions of how individuals are fed, emotionally, by those they relate with. My love language happens to be words of affirmation. Words. Does that surprise you since I happen to be in the business of utilizing words to connect with my neighbors through this paper, The Carbon Valley Consumer Report? I encourage readers to share birthday wishes to their loved ones. I asked business owners to introduce new staff or products through press releases. I invite teachers to congratulate students on achievements. Organizations know they can promote their events that further their causes. All of this is via words printed on paper and mailed to you. Words have power to: • Comfort • Express love • Initiate action • Support • Inspire But words can also be used to teardown, confuse, wound, and destroy our fellow man, our neighbor, our children, our spouse. Words can be used for good and they can also be used for malice. Two examples jump to the front of my mind as I think of the aforementioned: a devotional shared with a friend and an election ballot.
My friend received The Forgotten Way and study guide recently. She read it, studied it and was strengthened for an upcoming surgery because of it. The words she read, built her up. The words encouraged her and reminded her how important she is and how loved she has always been. The words were used for good. Example two is an election ballot, commonly used in our democratic society to express an individual’s opinion in what is supposed to be a secret/private vote. The ballot should be a simple, nonthreatening piece of the process but it has evolved over the years. In fact, much time, effort and money, has been spent on the wording of the issues printed on the ballot. While the voter has many opportunities to hear about and study all sides of the issues, it often gets confusing when a voter sits down to actively vote. Why? Words. Double negatives, extra instructions, overly wordy, all means to distract, confuse and manipulate the voter, one-way-or-theother. Greeting cards used to be completely encouraging but now include derogatory content in a humorous fashion. Facebook is a perfect example… “friends” can type words that help or harm others. Texting is a quick way to let another know you are thinking about them but it is also a way to share words that have been used to push
Vol. 18, Issue 10
some to suicide. Texting words while driving has caused many accidents and deaths. When someone needs to hear a good, uplifting word and does not, it is devastating. Silence, withholding words, is just as powerful and damaging as spoken words of anger and dissension. “I forgive you,” are three words that are challenging to say but have the power to change a person’s life; your life. Ted Dekker said it best, “Forgiveness isn’t absolving another of their crime, rather it is letting go of the offense you embraced when that crime was committed against you….Let go of offense to find freedom from that offense.” Words, words, words…there is power in words. It is my belief that words should be used to elevate others, enrich lives and support those we live around and work with. I’m still in training but I’m trying to learn what Peter taught, that I should speak as if God were speaking through me (1 Peter 4:11). And I’m also trying to remember, “In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God (John 1:1). It makes me happy to work with words. Words bring me joy, most of the time. I hope you will find strength in the words you hear and read today.

Brookfield Donates Shoes To Hurricane Victims

rookfield Residential of Colorado has delivered 180 pairs of shoes to an organization that will provide them to victims of Hurricane Irma in Cuba. Brookfield collected the shoes at a recent event sponsored by the Denverarea homebuilder, and the shipment will be expedited by One World Running. About 100 people registered for the Inaugural Barefoot Lakes 5K race in the year-old community of Barefoot Lakes in Firestone, Colo., and Brookfield asked participants (and spectators) to donate shoes for a good cause. Alaska—Some Place Special!
P
lanning lots of cruises to Alaska this past year and the great pricing has brought back some wonderful memories of our cruise to Alaska.. So I thought I would share some of my experiences to paint the picture for you. We had been promising ourselves a visit to this wonderful, majestic place called Alaska and fulfilled our dreams. It is truly an immense, picturesque, photo-filled opportunity of experiences and memories. We began our journey with an over-night stay in Vancouver, British Columbia. We love to people-watch on our trips, as we did during our river cruise in France a few years ago, found a busy outdoor café boulevard location, and spent the
afternoon conversing about the bustling crowd passing by and sampling the local brew. This was a perfect way to begin our trip. Our first day on board was spent enjoying the beautiful scenery of the Inside Passage. Our first port of call was Ketchikan for our scheduled half day salmon fishing trip. We chartered a boat and headed out early in the morning. We kept a total of seven salmon, about eightten pounds each, which we had processed, smoked, sent home. Our next port of call was Juneau and our first of two bike rides on our trip. Our bike ride took our group through lush, rain forest on our way to world famous Mendenhall Glacier. We noted how crystal clear the broken-off ice particles were gliding slowly down into the lake. The immenseness and aqua blue/green hues of the Mendenhall Glacier were just amazing. Our ship has now sailed up to Skagway. We
were taken to the summit of White Pass by van transport, climbed on our road bikes and gently glided down the mountain pass. We stopped a few times for photo-ops, taking in the breath taking views of mountain sides going forever and natural waterfalls. The trip was exhilarating. It was time to settle in for three days at sea while still viewing the beautiful scenery, but also taking part in the activities on the ship. On our way to Whittier our final destination, we sailed through Prince William Sound and College Fjords, again just magnificent. Our cruise ended in Whittier and we just traveled to Anchorage for our flight home. We were fortunate to see orca whales, black and brown bears, sea lions, huge bald eagles, and sea otters sunning themselves floating on their backs in the water on small ice blocks. If you’d like to part of that growing number visiting Alaska this is a great time because we

trails during this beautiful time of year. Some of my fondest memories from my childhood is the excitement that Halloween brings. Dressing up as your favorite character from books, movies, sports or other fantasy roles is a day filled with great memories. Neighborhoods change from being neat and clean to scary graveyards, haunted houses or beautiful displays of our fall havest. This year marks the 18th Annual celebration of our Firestone Police Department's Halloween Safe Night. On October 27th from 5 to 8 p.m. at our Firestone Regional Sports Complex. The Sports Complex will be converted to field's of carnival style games to challenge every age, a trackless train for fun rides, safety handouts and a goody bag for attendees. The location is 6850 Tilbury Ave at the Southeast corner of Firestone Blvd. (WCR24) and Frontier St. (WCR15). This outdoor event will have food trucks to provide options for feeding your ghosts and goblins. I want to thank our dedicated police department for
their hard work and organization of this wonderful community event. Coming to your mailboxes this November will be a ballot issue that I want all Firestone residents to be aware of. The Firestone town board unanomously passed resolution 17-38 to place a Tabor ballot issue on the November ballot. This ballot issue will ask to increase our Firestone sales and use tax by .60% for the purpose of financing a new police station. Grocery items will continue to be tax exempt. Please educate yourself on this very important issue. Additional information will be available on our towns web site as we get closer to the election. Keeping our community safe is my highest priority. I pray for our communities children's safety as they travel to and from school, play outdoor games, ride bicycles and wonder our neighborhoods in seach of treats this Halloween. Please join me in keeping our children's safety a top priority. If you have any questions or concerns please contact me psorensen@firestoneco.gov

Halloween Safety-Children are twice as likely to be hit by a car and killed on Halloween than on any other day. Safekids.org provides several Halloween reminder tips for kids out trick-or-treating this year. Here are a few tips to have a fun and safe Halloween. Children under the age of 12 should not be alone at night without adult supervision. If kids are mature enough to be out without supervision, they should stick to familiar areas that are well lit and trick-or-treat in groups. Cross the street at corners, using traffic signals and crosswalks. See more at Safekids.org Happy October, Mayor Joe Baker

Whitlow Recall Petition Response The citizens of the Town of Mead have been presented with a recall petition in which my colleague Mayor Pro Tem (Trustee) Schranz and I are the targets of. I write to you because every member of the community needs to be informed as there are always two sides to every story. The following is my response to the allegations aimed towards me in the recall: My term as Trustee is up in April 2018. The petitioning parties have chosen a very costly path to unseat me in my last almost six months of the job rather than wait out my term. This is a disheartening use of tax payer money. The alleged basis for the recall against me is in summary: • In June 2016 – I made a motion to table a discussion on banning marijuana sales in Mead indefinitely. The motion passed 6:1. • In August 2016 – I was one of three No votes to increase local sales and use tax from 2% to 3%. The increase was rushed and I did not feel comfortable in passing the emergency ordinance without community input. The official Minutes that speak to each of these motions are below.
June 13, 2016 Board of Trustee Meeting
Motion was made by Trustee Whitlow, seconded by Trustee Cartwright, to table Agenda item 6a) Direction to Staff Regarding Ban on Marijuana Sales indefinitely. Trustees Whitlow, Cartwright, Schranz, Hatch, Palaszewski, and Brodhead voting yes with Mayor Shields voting no. Motion carried 6-1.
August 29, 2016 Board of Trustee Meeting
Motion was made by Trustee Schranz, seconded by Trustee Hatch, to approve Ordinance No. 814 (version with the large V2 at the bottom) An Ordinance of the Town of Mead, Colorado, Authorizing the Submission to the Voters at the November 8, 2016 General Election, the question of increasing the Local Sales and Use Tax From 2% to 3% and Declaring an emergency. Mayor Shields, Trustee Hatch and Trustee Schranz voting yes with Trustees Whitlow Palaszewski and Trustee Brodhead voting no. Motion fails 3-3. • The last allegation of the recall is my involvement with the community. Besides being a Trustee for the Town of Mead I hold the following positions: Commissioner - Town of Mead Urban Renewal Authority Director - Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG) President - Mead Area Chamber of Commerce

And she led the charge for Weld County to partner with the state to improve the 402/I-25interchange. A comprehensive transportation system, great paying jobs and a healthy economy continue to be a priority for Cozad. I listen to their voices and their concerns to make educated decisions. If this is not the direction of the type of person that Mead wants in their Board of Trustees I would expect that the lack of support will be evident at election time. However is this enough of a basis for recalling an elected official? What message does this send to citizens who should be free to celebrate diversity among town representatives? Every second and fourth Monday of the month, the Board of Trustee has a meeting. These meetings are open to the public and I welcome everyone to come to participate!

all is coming and its time to put out a reminder about the good and healthy meals put on by the Weld County Friendly Fork for Seniors 60 plus. These nutritious meals along with the many volunteers who set up, serve and clean up make these Tuesday and Thursday lunches special. Enjoying the company of others, sharing life experiences and being able to contribute your knowledge to others is a plus. The program intent is to encourage Senior health, lessen stress and promote friendship with laughs. The meals are served at noon but you are encouraged to come early and visit with friends. There is a great salad bar, special treats and bingo at the end of the month with white elephant prizes. We on occasion have speakers to update us on items of interest. Its all about eating, talking, laughing and having a great meal. SPECIAL NOTE/INFORMATION: In the past 4 years we have passed all health inspections, served close to 15,000 meals,

attended two very special yet very different celebrations. In the afternoon, Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States and its Auxiliary held a Department of Colorado Homecoming Celebration for incoming VFW State Commander Ed Aitken and Auxiliary State President Caroline Gelatt. Adamson Warmuth Post 6624 hosted the celebration by providing a perfect venue for the gathering of VFW and Auxiliary members from several posts. Hamburgers, hotdogs, and brats were served alongside a buffet of pot-luck dishes provided by attendees. A plethora of salads, vegetables, beans, chips, and great desserts were brought by members as a congratulatory offering of wishes to Ed and Caroline for their election and upcoming year of productive community service. The gathering was fun and the Colorado weather was perfect for celebrating with old friends and meeting new ones. It was a perfect kickoff for the incoming team. T h e e v e n i n g brought VFW Post #9741 Auxiliary members a big contrast with a celebration of life for a recently deceased member. Martha Bower, age 89, passed away on July 17, 2017. Martha twice held the office of president at two Veterans of Foreign War (VFW) Auxiliary Posts and Moose and Eagles Lodges. At the time of her death she had served a total of 41 years
Beloved mom, grandma, great-grandma, sister, aunt, friend. A woman who in her 89 years of life touched many people’s hearts. Dancing, cooking, quilting, games, and laughter were all qualities that she passed on to her family to carry forth to future generations on her behalf. It was a lovely testimony of eighty-nine years of a life well-lived. Family photos and quilts handmade by Martha were displayed in her honor at the celebration. Martha will be missed but fondly remembered. As a non-profit organization, the VFW Auxiliary to Post 9741 relies on the support of its membership to help veterans, activeduty military, and their families lead a better life in our community. Those who support the VFW Auxiliary as members are actively participating in the effort to honor, support and remember our veterans and active-duty servicemen and women and their families. The VFW Auxiliary is seeking patriotic men and women to join them in making a difference in the lives of veterans, activeduty military and their families. The Auxiliary provides members an opportunity to honor and give back to all who have served, and who are serving, this great nation. It is a chance to say ‘thank you’ to them for their sacrifice. Some of the personal benefits and services include: • Veteran & Military Support • Friendships • Personal Fulfillment • Networking • Personal Growth & Development • Financial Services • Insurance Benefits • Discount Shopping
VFW tagline is “Unwavering Support for Uncommon Heroes™” and for more than 100 years, we have been supporting the Veterans of Foreign Wars, serving veterans and their families, active-duty military and their families, and spreading patriotism nationwide. During the 2016-2017 Program Year, Auxiliary members: • Provided $4.6 million in monetary aid to veterans, active-duty military and their families • Volunteered more than 816,000 hours in VA Medical Centers, hospitals, nursing homes and veterans homes • Made more than 134,000 legislative contacts to help pass or block important bills • Awarded $142,000 in scholarships • Worked with more than 262,000 youth • Distributed more than 378,000 American Flags Carbon Valley VFW Post #9741 Auxiliary meetings are held every fourth Tuesday at Prairie Greens Club House, 7781 Mountain View Dr, Frederick, CO 80530 starting at 6:30 pm. Send birthday wish & high resolution photo to the CVCR. Make sure file name is the name of the person with the birthday. We’ll print it free of charge. Submit to carbonvalley@gmail.com and put “Birthday” in the subject line, as close to the 15th of each month as possible. It’s that simple & it’s FREE!
Happy 3rd birthday to our Averie Dean! You are growing into such a big girl and we are so proud of you! Love you so much! Mama, Daddy and Big Sis Sadie.
October 20th! Celebrating one-year-old!! Dear Lil Dude, As your first year comes to a close and your gummy smile turns into a toothy grin, you've brought immeasurable joy to our lives. Keep your big sibs on their toes, because you're closing in on their heels! Happy 1st Birthday! Love you Jason Trevor Herman!
o you have a business page on Facebook? What are your 4th quarter goals? Let me help you with a few suggestions. *Try to increase the number of people on your page by 10% each month. *Have a monthly special deal or offer. If you’re a professional (chiropractor, therapist, lawyer), don’t discount your service but offer a value added enticement. Ex. For new clients in the month of September, we’re offering ____________. It can be a small book, a calendar for 2018, etc… *Have a tangible object that friends of your page can WIN if they like, comment and/or share. This can be a $5 Starbucks card, a jar of candy where they try to guess how many pieces are in the jar, or a product that relates to your business. *Create an organic (not YouTube) video and post it to your business page once a week. You’ll see higher reach than any other posts. Predictions are that by 2019, 80% of all online content will be
video. Embrace this now and enjoy the results. *Boost two posts a week for $1 for 1 day. If you normally have a reach of 10% of the people on your page, this on tip will increase it to 20-30%! If people like or comment, that will go higher. If you’re creating great content, but people aren’t seeing it, then it doesn’t really help you! Need help and support? A one hour consultation is $50. Hire me to professionally manage your page for 3 months and I’ll waive the fee. Call Jennie Poppenger at 303.518.0089.

en you bring a local company that has a building that needs a little face lift, a town that wants to bring in some culture and a school that has the talent and labor force behind it, you get a team that comes together and makes a great representation of a community, our community - Mead.” – Vicki Tillema In January of this year, the Mead Town Board commissioned the Parks, Recreation and Open Space Committee (PROS) to start work on a new project called Mead’s Art in Public Places. We had a large tree stump in the park next to the Town Hall and it was decided to make that the first of many art projects. While looking for tree carvers for that stump the Committee was approached by Vicki Tillema who was interested in finding a location for the artists at Mead High School to do a mural. This fit in perfectly with our Art in Public Places project. We quickly discover that the Town does not own any buildings with a wall big enough to place a mural on. Vickie decided to ask area business owners if they would allow a mural on their walls. The Boulder Scientific Company was happy to do so. Their wall faced the Town Hall. As they worked, it became a place for stopping and viewing by many Town staff members, firemen, and local park visitors.

Mead High School student, Jay Olson, junior and the VP of Student Council created and designed the mural to reflect the mascots of the three schools: Mead Elementary Mustang, Mead Middle School Bulldog and Mead High School Maverick. Boulder Scientific Company and Town of Mead approved the artwork and a pallet of colors were chosen. Throughout the summer, the students painted daily, but as the new school year approached the need for more painters became apparent. Family and friends joined in the work and finished just in time for Mead Community Day, on September 9th. A special thank you goes out to Boulder Scientific for permission to legally allow kids to paint on their building. Thank you to Lonnie Warren, Amy Klein, and Belinda Pelletier for their artistic hands and eyes. Also, to Jay Olson for his design and Cheryl Horst for her skill in painting, thank you. And finally to all the approximately 25 others who took time to add to this mural, it couldn’t have happened without you, thanks. When a community comes together, beautiful things can happen. Be Aware of Wire Fraud
C
ybercriminals are targeting people all over the country with their scams to steal your money electronically. This is happening in various industries, including real estate. In short, hackers are monitoring emails during transactions and then providing instructions to wire your money to a fraudulent bank account. A Buyer or Seller can lose tens, if not hundreds of thousands of dollars and this has happened right here in Colorado. The Colorado Real Estate Commission recently published the following: How do the scams work? Often the computer hackers monitor email exchanges between the parties of a real estate transaction and gain specific information, such as the buyer and seller names, subject property address and file numbers. As the closing date approaches and arrangements are made to wire the money to the closing company, or wire the proceeds from the sale of the house to the sellers, the scammer will send a last-minute email from a hijacked account or similar looking email address updating the wiring instructions to request the money be transferred into a fraudulent bank account. The email looks legitimate and often contains the transaction specific information the hackers obtained in the body of the email or as an attachment. “This scam reflects the increasing technical sophistication of computer hackers and all home buyers and sellers are potential victims,” noted Waters. Buyers and sellers can take just five minutes by reading the below tips to protect themselves from becoming a victim of wire fraud:
• Verbally contact your broker: Prior to wiring any money, you should always verbally contact your real estate broker to confirm that the wiring information is accurate. Do not rely on telephone numbers or website addresses provided within an unverified email. • Do not email financial information: Emails and texts are not secure methods to transmit financial information. • Keep a record of websites that hold your financial information: And before providing that information, confirm that the websites in which you input financial information are secure. Look for the URL to start HTTPS, the “S” stands for secure. • Don’t click on links: Don’t use links in emails to get to websites. Instead, search and find the company and directly link to their website from your search. • Update your computer: Keep your operating system, browser and security software up-to-date. This is a very real threat, so be very careful with the wiring of your money for any reason. Double check by calling your Realtor with any questions.

What is Rotary?
T
he July 2017 issue of the Rotarian Magazine published the following answer: “When someone asks you about Rotary, what do you say? Do you talk about your club or do you describe the good works Rotary does out in the world? Do you try to cram both thoughts into the same sentence? Do you talk about the friends you’ve made? Or do you tell stories about what it’s like to participate in local or international projects? We’ve heard Rotary described as a membership organization that behaves like an NGO (non-governmental organization). Rotary has partnerships with the World Health Organization, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. We are represented at the United Nations. We are players on the world stage.”
Does this sound like an organization you would be interested in? The Carbon Valley Rotary club has been serving the community since 2006: hosting the annual Easter Egg Hunt with a free book for every child, providing dictionaries for 3rd graders, establishing Free Little Libraries in neighborhoods throughout the community, displaying US Flags at community events, annual recognition of local community heroes, honoring Veterans, and more. Our projects are funded by proceeds from our peaches and pears and Bingo fundraisers. You are invited to join us for breakfast each Tuesday from 7:00 to 8:00 am at Bella Rosa Golf Course. If you would like to know more about Rotary and becoming involved in a service organization that has a positive impact email BarbGoettsch@carbonvalleyrotary.org or BevMendel@carbonvalleyrotary.org

Food for the Soul-What About Prayer? By Jim Coleman
P
salms chapter 5 is one of many prayers in this particular book of the Bible. Coupled with other passages about prayer, there are several takeaways that can benefit our prayer life. What can we learn? According to Jesus in Matthew 6 we Christians are expected to pray, and it is good for our relationship with God to do so ‘early and often’. We don’t need a pedigree or Bible college in order to speak with our Heavenly Father, since He wants to hear our heart more than our eloquence. Prayer is just like talking to one another- except it is communicating with the most powerful intelligent Being in the universe! And this Holy God loves it when we talk to Him- He welcomes our prayer, and even prays for us through the Holy Spirit. I wonder if He ever prays that we would pray more…? Psalms 5:1 suggests to me that God doesn’t care if we speak or groan- just so we pray. Since God has always been a prayer-hearing God, we can bring up anything at all to Him, since He is still as ready to hear from His children as He ever was. And imagine this: no matter how many people from around the world are speaking to Him at the same time, and in many different tongues, He can and does
hear and understand and answer each one. There is NO bad time to pray. It’s great to start your day with thanksgiving, but we can pray “evening and morning and afternoon” according to Psalms 55:17. When we pray we are looking to our Benevolent Caretaker, and we know that He listens and loves us more than we love ourselves. Not only will He hear us but He will answer- though rarely in a spoken voice we can hear with our ears. Much of His response will come in the pages of Scripture as we search His love letter for answers. Recently in the Mead Day parade my pickup began to overheat. I breathed an unspoken prayer to the Lord that my engine would not be damaged, and continued on. Since we were doing the parade to honor Him, I felt very good about asking, and surprise, surpriseno harm done. God cares about the mosquitoes as much as the bears. Sometimes God answers immediately and sometimes He wants us to hold on for His timing. Sometimes the answer is ‘no’
because He knows much more than we do about what is good for us in the long haul. In that regard we should heed Jesus’ example of praying “Not My will, but Thine be done”. Here is a huge caveat that affects our prayer found in Matthew 6:14,15. When we regard iniquity in our hearts by refusing to forgive others who have sinned against us, then God will NOT hear our prayer. He doesn’t ‘go deaf’, He simply acts in perfect character according to His word. Read those verses and the Lord’s Prayer that precedes them, and understand. Psalms 5:7 tells us that grace opens God’s ears to us. In the Old Testament, the word lovingkindness is the New Testament equivalent of ‘grace’. Prayer takes us directly into God’s holy temple. And what should we do there? Bow our hearts in reverence. We cannot come to God on our own merit, but under Jesus’ provision for us on the cross of Calvary. He bought us the privilege of praying. The last verse of Psalms 5 tells me that God likes joyful children. Taking refuge in Christ
has purchased us eternal happiness, and that should come out of our mouths in praises and song and thanksgiving. Do you see how long we will be singing in verse 11? Forever. God doesn’t need our praise, but He deserves it. And we need to exercise our praising muscles. As believers in Jesus we are highly favored, and we should never get over it. Talking to the Lord about anything and everything is what we should learn to do. We can pray out loud and silently both day and night. Plan to lift up your voice to God more often. You need the practice and He wants the praise.

dam and Jennifer Kiefer of Longmont are the proud parents of the first baby born at the newly opened UCHealth Longs Peak Hospital. Xavier Kiefer was born at 8:31 a.m. Friday. He weighed 6 pounds and 15 ounces and measured 20 inches. “I love this hospital already,” Jennifer Kiefer said. “Everybody has been so kind since I stepped in here.” Being the first baby born in a hospital definitely has its perks. On Saturday morning, mom and baby had a surprise visit from a group of care providers bearing gifts. Dr. Heidi Pomfret, an obstetrician-gynecologist, lead the group into the room, wheeling in a large red Radio Flyer wagon full of goodies from physicians, midwives, nurses and staff members who care for patients at the hospital. A New Season, A New Fitness Plan!
Vertigo & Dizziness
all is here and you might be thinking about how you were going to eat better and exercise more over summer, but with kids out of school, parties, food/drinks, and vacations, life got in the way of your best intentions. It's not too late to focus on your health again. Don't wait for January, start today by taking action to create a plan for yourself by thinking about these questions: How will you start eating better and where will you workout? Who is going to do this with you? What are some short term goals? Who/what do you need to say "no" to in order to give yourself the gift of fitness? I want to share with you 5 things that will help you in your fitness plans: 1. Prioritize - I often hear people say they're too busy and don’t have time to workout or eat healthy. We're all busy, but you don't want the possible chronic health issues to take hold and wreak havoc in your life from inactivity. Prioritize your workouts just like they're a doctor apt and put them on the calendar. Plan ahead with healthy meals, create a shopping list, and choose to make healthy choices as often as you can. 2. Consistency comes from a strong Why and Community - My why is that I need to stay fit for my health, and I want to be healthy and present for my family. I have a child with severe special needs that will require my help every day for the rest of her life, so I need to remain strong and healthy for her and the rest of my family. Also, I have a community of people in my fitness groups that I look forward to working out with 5 times per week. I know

ertigo is the extremely uncomfortable sensation of feeling as if the room is spinning. It is very difficult to function while experiencing vertigo. Dizziness and light headedness provide a similar sensation, although less severe and less debilitating. The purpose of this article will be to briefly define the differences, causes and solutions for vertigo and dizziness. Here are definitions: Dizziness characterized by a sensation of whirling motion, either of oneself or of external objects. Vertigo is often caused by damage or disease in the inner ear. The American Heritage® ScienceDictionary. While vertigo is caused by a problem with the inner ear, dizziness can occur for many different reasons. Here are a few very common causes of dizziness: • Low blood sugar According to the American Diabetes Association, Hypoglycemia is a condition characterized by abnormally low blood glucose (blood sugar) levels, usually less than 70 mg/dl and includes various symptoms including confusion, rapid heartbeat, lightheadedness, dizziness, hunger and nausea • Low blood pressure including orthostatic, which is the term for when blood pressure drops upon standing, resulting in light headedness and/or dizziness. Orthostatic blood pressure may occur for a few reasons, one is due to enduring stress which depletes the adrenal glands and kidney, which in turn affects the heart’s ability to properly circulate blood. • Anemia, according to the Mayo Clinic, anemia occurs when your blood doesn't have enough red blood cells. Symptoms are various, including irregular heartbeats, shortness of breath, dizziness or lightheadedness. • Blood deficiency blood volume insufficiency that may be due to regular
blood loss or a one time blood loss event that does not result in anemia • Clenching and grinding the teeth can also cause problems for the ear and cause either dizziness, vertigo or other inner ear conditions. It is a good idea to see your dentist or dental surgeon first, and modalities such as cranio-sacral therapy, massage, Rolfing and acupuncture can help make necessary adjustments and address the root cause. Acupuncture, specific foods, Chinese herbal formulas and supplements are incredibly useful in the treatment of low blood sugar, low blood pressure, blood deficiency and anemia. I have personally experienced all of four of these conditions and have successfully used specific herbal formulas, supplements and foods to help restore regulation. Left unchecked, these can lead to more severe health conditions. If you have been experiencing ongoing dizziness, it is important to see your doctor. For the treatment of vertigo, a client introduced me to this very informative video from Carol Foster, MD / University of Colorado Denver that thoroughly explains the cause of vertigo and provides visual instructions to get rid of vertigo. Search Carol Foster, MD vertigo or go directly to this link: https://www.youtube.com/ watch?v=mQR6b7CAiqk

Inaugural Mead Art in Public Places Project Completed
T
he Town of Mead invites the public to attend a meet-and-greet on Saturday, September 9, to ask questions of the artist of the inaugural project of the Town of Mead Art in Public Places program: a tree carving at Mead Town Park. The tree carving depicts a little boy sitting on the shoulders of his father, a farmer of sugarbeets, the crop that Mead has been known for since its incorporation in 1908. Local artist Faye Braaten, also known as “Chainsaw Mama,” completed the piece after being selected from the four artists who submitted qualifications to the Mead Public Arts Commission
in May. Three finalists were selected to submit a more detailed proposal, and the Commission selected Ms. Braaten’s piece, given its relevance to the history of Mead. The timing of the project coincides nicely with the plans for the Mead Community Day & Sugarbeet Festival. The celebration will occur at Mead Town Park at 441 3rd St., Mead, from 10:00 a.m. to approximately 9:30 p.m. and will include live music performances from Black Water Tribute Band and New Sensation, a tractor pull, vendors, and a fireworks display. The meet-and-greet with Chainsaw Mama will occur at 1:30 p.m. Chairperson of the Mead Public Arts Commission Linda Trahern states, “What a fun project to be a part of for my Town. I can’t wait to start looking for our next one!” She also welcomes the community to consider volunteering with the Commission, so that more voices can be represented in the Town’s search for future projects. The Art in Public Places Program, started in January, 2016, is funded by the Town, which sets aside one percent of the cost of public capital construction projects. “It was an honor to be chosen to participate in the first Art in Public Places project,” Ms. Braaten states. “My desire is that it represents your community well and brings a smile to your face.” For more information on this project, or to find out about how to volunteer, please visit the Town’s website at http://www. townofmead.org.

Garden Fairies Community Service Project
T
o assist residents who may need financial and / or physical assistance with their yards. The goal is to provide services such as yard clean up, mowing leaf removal etc. To designated seniors, initially focusing on the Tri-town area. The intention is to unite businesses and individuals, working together for local residents in need and creating a sense of community throughout the area. The first rounds will take place over several weekends this fall where volunteers will participate with mowing, edging, trimming bushes/trees, and taking leaves an initial visit. 9nce completed, each yard will receive a paver painted by children from Imagine Charter School at Firestone, each yard will also have a sign thanking our primary sponsors. Michele was inspired by her father in law, Robert Tajchman. After many back surgeries, it has left him in a situation where he needs assistance in his yard. Michele, along with her husband and her three teenage daughters, have been working in his yard for the past three years. Taking the time to help and visit with a senior resident not only helps the homeowner maintain a sense of pride in their yard, it also shows how much they are appreciated. Looking to help others
in similar situations, Michele decided to organize Garden Fairies. To nominate a senior resident that would benefit, please contact: micheletajchman@gmail.com Please leave your name and contact information along with your nominee and their contact information. Include a brief description how this service would benefit the nominee. Garden Fairies is volunteer based and is always looking for volunteers to share their time and/or donations to support the project. The dates to complete the work will be November 4th and 11th. Work will be completed in the morning on said dates. To sign up for volunteering or to donate supplies, please contact Michele. Contact: Michele Tajchman micheletajchman@gmail.com 6618 Scenic Ct. Fort Collins Based Revive Properties Nationally Recognized Again With Two Housing Innovation Awards
F
or the second consecutive year, Revive Properties of Fort Collins has been recognized with national awards for Innovation in Multi-Family Homes and Innovation in Production Homes. Since 2013, The U.S. Department of Energy’s Housing Innovation Awards has recognized the very best in innovation on the path to zero energy ready homes. This year’s winners include 26 homes and 24 builders from across the country. Homes receive this award by meeting the rigorous technical requirements of DOE Zero Energy Home program, and are so energy efficient that they are able to produce as much energy as they use with a renewable energy system, such as solar, and offer better indoor air quality and long-term durability. "Housing Innovation Award winners represent the top 1% of builders across the country who successfully demonstrate they can meet the federal government's most rigorous specifications for highperformance homes," said Sam Rashkin, Chief Architect at DOE's Building Technologies Office. "Zero energy ready homes are designed to provide a whole new level of homeowner experience including ultra-low utility bills, ensured comfort, comprehensive water protection,
whole-house fresh air delivery, highcapture filtration, contaminant control, and enhanced durability." Revive Properties was the Grand Winner of the nationally recognized Innovation in Multi-Family Homes award in 2016. Grand Winners for each category are selected by a distinguished group of national experts and will be announced at the 2017 Housing Innovation Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, October 11th at the Energy and Environmental Building Alliance's High Performance Home Summit in Atlanta, Georgia. Chad and Todd Adams are the owners of Revive, the geothermal/solar community, located in North Fort Collins by the intersection of Willox and College Avenue. The homes are being built by Philgreen Construction, and now consist of 18 duplexes and 22 townhomes, with 15 additional zero energy townhomes to be completed in 2018. Susan McFaddin is the development consultants real estate broker for the project. Greg D. Fisher is the designing Architect. Many local design and contractors have worked to make this an award winning community. To learn more about local Revive Properties projects, visit www.revivefc.com.

his summer, The O.J. and Mary Christine Harvey Educational Foundation presented "I Have A Dream" with $600,000 to establish the Chris Harvey Endowment Fund and make the Foundation's support of Dreamer programming permanent. "The O.J. and Mary Christine Harvey Educational Foundation truly understands the long term investment we make in our youth, and their incredibly generous gift illustrates that. This endowment will allow 'I Have A Dream' to provide educational opportunities for youth into perpetuity," said "I Have A Dream" CEO, Lori Canova. The gift is given in honor of Chris Harvey (1927-2003), who was the first in her family to graduate from high school and continued her education to earn her bachelor's degree from the University of Oklahoma in History and Political Science in 1950. She taught in Nashville, Tenn. before moving to Boulder in 1958 when her husband O.J. Harvey joined the Psychology Department at the University
of Colorado. Education transformed Chris' life and provided her with life changing opportunities. She taught at Whittier Elementary for 30 years and established the Harvey Foundation with her husband to assist students without financial resources to advance their education. Every year, when the board would discuss the pros and cons of each college student's application, Chris would admonish everyone "not to forget about the little kids." Since Chris and OJ's passing, their nephew Terry Minton and colleague Jerry Felknor have directed the activities of the Harvey Foundation. Minton shared that "it has become very apparent to us that intervention and support for young students is the way to increase the odds that students will be able to make it through high school and be able to consume college level subject material. 'I Have A Dream' is our chosen vehicle to accomplish this goal."
Flood Anniversary – Rebuilding Continues Habitat for Humanity Site Blessing in Lyons September 13th
T
he face of our landscape and lives of our neighbors were forever changed four years ago as a thousand-year rain pounded down upon Boulder, Larimer and Weld Counties. Tangled debris remains – like scars on the riverbanks – reminding us of the unfathomable devastation of those September days. Yet it is also testament to the resolve for restoration with which that destruction has been met. Habitat for Humanity is known for building housing and providing affordable mortgages to first time homeowners, based on need. But Habitat for Humanity of the Saint Vrain Valley expanded their mission four years ago. Its “ReBuild” program was initiated in response to needs imposed by the historic northern Colorado flooding in September 2013. The Longmontbased nonprofit organization has been involved in performing critical repairs and constructing homes for families displaced by the floods ever since. On Wednesday, September 13th at 5:00 PM, the St. Vrain Habitat affiliate will be kicking off the construction of six new homes in Lyons, for flooddisplaced families, with a site blessing. It will be held at 2nd Avenue and Park Street – the location for the homes.
The community is invited to attend and share in this celebration of the resiliency of the human spirit and the power of community. Dave Emerson, St. Vrain Habitat’s Executive Director noted that, “Rebuilding of homes, lives and communities is ongoing. This painstaking yet healing work is made possible because of the generous financial support of the community and thousands of hours of volunteer time to construct these homes.” “As the flood waters retreat in Texas and Florida, Habitat affiliates in those communities will engage in the same recovery and rebuilding efforts,” stated John Lovell, Director of Development for St. Vrain Habitat. “Our Park Street development is a perfect example of the long term commitment that Habitat makes to support the communities in which we live and work.” Habitat for Humanity of the Saint Vrain Valley was established in 1988. They recently dedicated their 80th home. In addition, 22 critical repairs and rebuilding projects associated with the flooding of 2013 have been completed in Longmont, Lyons, Erie and Frederick. For more information about Habitat’s work, visit www.stvrainhabitat.org.

TNT Plumbing of Firestone Celebrates One Year Anniversary By Jan Sciacca
T
NT Plumbing, LLC, locally owned and operated by U. S. Air Force Veteran Ronnie E Thornton II, celebrated one year in business September 1. Ronnie is a Master Plumber with 18+ years of plumbing experience. His father had a plumbing business and he “grew up” learning the trade. Ronnie’s first year of business has been one of connecting with customer and fellow veterans. He even met someone from his hometown in Nebraska. He’s networked with other businesses and even found time to get married. One of the most rewarding things of the first year was being able to sponsor youth sports teams. He felt good knowing that he played a small part in the kids playing baseball and ice hockey. Also, early in his year, he was asked to speak to preschool classes about plumbers. He shared that plumbers are important because they allow us to have clean water to drink and hot water for showers. Based in Firestone, TNT’s service
area is the i25 Corridor area. Quality and value pricing is at the core of TNT’s service selection. Services include: Appliance Hook-Ups, Drain Repairs, Drain Stoppages, Faucet Installs, Faucet Repairs, Fixtures, Gas line Installs, Gas line Repairs, Pressure Regulators, Repipes, Sump Pumps, Water Closets, Water Heater Installations, Water Heater Repairs, Water Line Repairs, Water Service Repairs, and Water Treatments. Ready to Sell? 3 Ways an Experienced Realtor® Helps Get You Started
T
he process of putting your home on the market and finding your next place can be overwhelming for most people. Fortunately, an experienced agent can help you weigh all your options. Here’s where a professional might start: 1. Researching your home’s value An experienced local agent will have the pulse on the current market and exclusive access to the most up-to-date MLS sold information. Together, you can review how much comparable properties have been selling for and how long they lingered on the market. An experienced agent can provide a realistic idea of what your home is worth, and how fast (or long) it could take to find a buyer. 2. Working with your budget After you learn what your current home is worth, you’ll be able to hone in your options for your next one. An experienced agent can give you an idea of what types of properties and which
neighborhoods are in your budget. A good agent who knows the area well will also be aware of local housing trends. He or she can advise you when might be a good time to buy. 3. Making your home market-ready There may be work to do before you put your house on the market. Some repairs and upgrades are worth the time and expense, while others are not. An experienced Realtor can help you prioritize repairs. He or she can also recommend a home inspector for an expert opinion on features like roofs and HVAC prior to listing it.

I
t is all about people for Realtor Jen Kearns, who recently joined RE/MAX Nexus in Firestone. Jen decided to enter Real Estate because she loves helping others reach their goals. A Pennsylvania native, Jen brings her friendly, outgoing personality to Nexus because as she says, “I like focusing on what works. I like working with others who can see outside the box, and bring creativity to their work." Jen found that becoming a realtor was her perfect fit after focusing on raising three children. She adds that she is definitely a team player and if someone tells her she can’t do something, she doubles her effort to prove them wrong. “I know that success lies completely with my effort,” she said. She offers clients a stress-free experience by combining quality customer service, problem solving, and solid communication skills, and enjoys working with both Buyers and Sellers in Weld, Boulder and Larimer Counties. A resident of Longmont, Jen met her husband just a week after moving to Colorado 16 years ago. Together the family participate in all the outdoor activities our state offers including mountain biking, snow shoe shoeing, and hiking. “I love living in Colorado. This will always be home to me.” A true Renaissance woman, Jen is also a published author. Her first book Flawed received many positive reviews. She is now writing a follow up to her first book. RE/MAX/Nexus Managing Broker, Abby Renner, comments, “We are so excited to welcome Jen to our office. She brings an amazing energy with a true passion to serve her clients and to learn and grow in the Real Estate profession.” Jen can be reached at jenkearns14@gmail. com, or on her cell 720.526.5434.

Not All Paints are Created Equal
F
rustrated with the exterior paint on your home? If you feel you had a good paint job, but the paint isn’t lasting, it could be explained by the quality of your paint. When considering quality, one must look at pigments, solids and binders. Premium, quality paints that are applied properly save you money in the long run. The costly part of painting your home is the labor, so it's a good idea to make sure your painting contractor is using a premium paint. The more pigment in your paint, the longer it will last. Paints that contain inexpensive lower quality pigments will fade quickly and need more coats, costing you more in the short and long term. Paints containing high quality pigments will hold their color longer. Most agree the best pigments contain titanium dioxide. Paint also contains
solvents - water for acrylics and mineral spirits in oils. Check that the paint to be used on your home has a high percentage of solids so that what is left on your surfaces will last. An inexpensive paint may have a high level of solids only because cheap fillers were used, so you want to make sure your paint contains 35% - 55% solids by weight. The binder in your paint is what holds everything together and is important as well. Acrylic binders are the most weather resistant. It is also important to use paint manufactured for the proper surface. Most latex paints work for covering wood, trim, hardboard siding, vinyl and aluminum. The best coating for stucco is an Elastomeric paint which is thicker and more flexible. Most important is the prep. Even the best paint can fail if the surfaces aren’t properly prepared before application!

As part of this celebration, CML runs a Municipal Hero program to recognize municipal employees, citizen leaders, and volunteers who help to strengthen their communities. According to the nomination form, “Megan thrives in our community that lets her extend her ideas and energy into worthwhile projects. Not only does she strive to create and maintain robust communications channels and community outreach programs for residents to stay connected to the town, but she’s always willing to help other organizations as well.” In other CML news, Mayor Pro-Tem Laura Brown reached the Fundamental level of CML’s MUNIversity program, which required her to complete 30 training credits. This program was started in January 1991 by the League’s Executive Board to recognize the efforts of officials who go the extra mile to increase their knowledge of municipal government and their capacity to lead. Additionally Town Manager Matt LeCerf was reelected to the CML Executive Board, which is comprised of 21 elected officials and key municipal staff members. This board is responsible for overall finances, management and policy affairs of the League. Gratitude to Habitat for Humanity and Volunteers and FHS Football Team I wish to thank first of all, God most high, who makes all things possible, and then Habitat for Humanity, for transforming my 51-year-old home into a good looking, attractive residence. Unending thanks to their very gracious people, to volunteers and skilled workers. To staff members Nichole Starck, Doug Miller, Ed Heasonie and Warriors Coach Fields, who volunteered his football team. This was volunteerism above and beyond the norm. I was made to feel like an honored guest. Kudos and blessings to all. Also to Brenda Hart. You will all be remembered. Mary Anne Johnson

FHS Homecoming 2017 Parade, Tailgate & Game – All Huge wins for the Community
O
November 2nd at 2pm
4th, 9th-11th at 7pm Tickets: $10 adults. $5 Seniors & Children ages 3-14 Only @Frederick High School! Based on the novel by Daniel Wallace and the Columbia Motion Picture written by John August Originally produced on Broadway by Dan Jinks, Bruce Cohen and Stage Entertainment with Roy Furman, Broadway Across America/Rich Entertainment Group, John Domo, The Nederlander Organization and Edward Walson in association with CJ E&M, Dancing Elephant Productions, Parrothead Productions, Harvey Weinstein/Carole L. Haber, Peter May/Jim Fantaci, Ted Liebowitz/Joe Piacentile and Columbia Pictures.
n Friday the 8th of September the downtown streets of Frederick were lined with spectators for the 2017 FHS Homecoming Parade. Flag bearers Bailey Carroll and Travis Wyatt led the Parade. The Grand Marshalls were Coach Roger Dufour and Language Arts Teacher Diane Starkey. The spectators got to meet the Homecoming Court: Freshmen Attendants: Joseph Gardner and Asia Paludo, Sophomore Attendants: Brandon Hornby and Tia Shirley, Junior Attendants: Cobe Quinlan and Macey Murfitt and Senior attendants: Darian Berg, Makenna Goodard, Doyle Schroth, and Isabelle Esquivel. The Homecoming King and Queen Mateo Rives and Mylie Tarnowski The spectators cheered on floats from all the many FHS organizations and teams and many community floats including the Carbon Valley Dreamers, the Carbon Valley Parks and Rec District Soccer Teams and our amazing 4th and 8th grade future Warrior Football Teams. The Staff and administration handed out blue and gold beads while the Sophomore, Juniors and Seniors danced and celebrated their classes with floats decorated to the Homecoming theme of Wizard of OZ – “There’s no Place like Homecoming” The parade ended at the FHS Booster Homecoming Tailgate. The FHS Booster
Club gave out over 400 hotdogs and iced cold water (Mahnke Auto Body). The FHS students hosted free games and activities. The attendees earned tickets and cashed those tickets in for prizes including Blue and Gold beads, headbands, noisemakers, sun-glasses, crazy hair wigs and more! Special thanks to Any Time Fitness for sponsoring the tailgate and helping with the cost of the prizes! The Tailgate ended at 6:30pm with just enough time for everyone to grab a seat for the Football Game. The Warriors entered the field by busting through the new Warrior Banner provided by the FHS Booster Club and held by parents of the Cheerleaders. It was standing room only as the Warrior Football Team led by Coach Peeples showed everyone that their hard work and dedication had indeed paid off. The warriors had 112 yards passing with a touchdown reception by Brandon Hornby. They also had 243 yards rushing including a touchdown by James Jones. Luke Dunker went 1-2 on his PAT kicks and had a 31-yard field goal. The Warriors went on to beat Conifer 16-0. The game ended with the FHS Band playing the Fight Song and the Rowdy Crowd rushing the Field. It was a great night to be part of the Frederick High School Community.

consumed and active minutes. To compile all of that data, The Anytime Fitness app syncs with companion apps, including MapMyFitness® and many popular tracking devices like Fitbit®. “New technology can be helpful when it comes to achieving fitness goals because it provides feedback and positive reinforcement in real time,” Grine said. “But technology alone isn’t the answer. Nearly all of our members who’ve greatly improved their health and fitness say it’s the support they receive from others that’s most important. Whether it’s words of encouragement from a friendly trainer, or other gym members who tell you that you’re looking good, nothing beats being part of a gym community.” To learn more about the “Join for $1” special offer, contact Evan Chase, the Anytime Fitness Firestone General Manager by emailing firestoneco@ anytimefitness.com or call 303-772-2660.

Richard Lambert Foundation Family Grief & Healing Center
Gabriel "Gabe" John Archuleta
ichard Lambert Foundation is a local non-profit grief support center located in Brighton, CO providing access to affordable counseling and support services to the bereaved. The Center was named after our late son, Richard Lambert. It was after our own struggle to find immediate grief support following the death of our son and connecting with many families affected by loss, who are unable to afford professional support, we identified the need to provide access to affordable grief counseling and support services to families in our communities. The mission of the Richard Lambert Foundation is to provide care, support and essential resources for bereaved children and adults, allowing them to create a foundation for hope, healing and survival. Services offered at the Grief Center include individual, couples and family counseling. Fees are based on a sliding fee scale according to income. Fees are adjusted on a as needed basis for financial hardships. Our ongoing monthly support groups, recovery oriented weekly educational workshops are free of service. Suicide bereavement specific programs are available to address the uniqueness of loss due to suicide. Our staff and trained volunteers are available for crisis calls within the community when there has been a loss in the school or at the workplace. We are proud of our crisis team, they are a great resource. The Center is also equipped to provide all services in a secular or faith based modality to meet your needs. The Grief Centers newest programs for children, Camp Forget Me Not, launched in 2016 due to interest of our community and the families we serve. A bereaved child should have access to grief support, and RLF is committed to providing children a place to grieve at their own pace and to connect with peers experiencing a similar death through our bi-annual program, Camp Forget Me Not, a free two-day, Day Camp that is specifically structured to provide children ages 8-12 with services necessary to begin and/or work through their healing process. Our initial camp was such a success and the children couldn’t wait to come back, therefore, upon their request we created Camp Forget Me Not “Mini”, a 2 1/2 hour "Mini" Camp experience filled with the same fun, education and support as our 2 day, Day Camp, combining traditional camp activities and specialized grief activities. Our hope is to empower children in their growth with the tools necessary for success in handling future challenges after experiencing a loss. The programs and services offered at the Richard Lambert Foundation Family Grief & Healing Center are vital to those seeking support, most of who are facing barriers to health care access. They often lack the resources to help themselves as they face shock, grief and potentially unplanned funeral expenses, leaving them feeling extremely vulnerable. The loss of a loved one has significant consequences for the survivors and the community as
Gabriel "Gabe" John Archuleta died peacefully in Good Samaritan Hospital on September 16, 2017 in Lafayette, CO at the age of 17. Gabe is survived by his Parents Steve & Gina, Sister Lucia, & Grandparents Anibal & Rosemary Archuleta and numerous Uncles, Aunts and Cousins. He is preceded in death by Grandparents Angela & John DiGregorio & Uncle Johnny DiGregorio. Gabe was born on July 24, 2000 in Longmont, CO to Steven & Gina Archuleta. He was a senior at Berthoud High School. A funeral was held September 19, 2017 at Brookside Gardens in Berthoud, CO. Father Greg Ames officiated the ceremony. Please share thoughts and condolences with the family at howemortuary.com.

a whole. For the survivor, experiencing the death of a family member or intimate friend puts the bereaved person at a high risk for several types of psychiatric disorders. These can include Major Depressions, Panic Disorders, Generalized Anxiety Disorders, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorders, and increased drug and/ or alcohol use and abuse. Employers with grieving personnel may experience decreased productivity and unsafe working conditions. Schools with grieving children find that students are unable to concentrate on learning, have increased absences and often act out, resulting in classroom disruptions, lower grades and test scores. Our vision is that every grieving adult, child and family, will never suffer alone in silence and will find hope, healing and renewed happiness. We wouldn’t be able to provide our greatly needed services without the support of individuals, businesses and organizations in our communities, that believe in our cause. We thank you for your kindness and generosity. If you would like more information on our services or how you can help support those in need, please contact us at 720408-8417 or Susan Chavez directly at 303875-2347. In Memory Of My Beautiful Son Richard 9/23/85-9/4/12
I miss you more than anyone can imagine unless your a mother who's walked in my shoes. We had this special one of a kind relationship that only you and I knew. A part of me died with you the day that you left this earth. I hope my fight to survive and live life honors you. It's not easy but, within my heart I know, it's what you'd want for me if you'd had the chance to tell me before you had to go. Thirty-two years ago I waited to greet you into this world and now my precious son, I know you'll be there to greet me, into eternity. See you soon son. I love you,
Mom
